Reading Mail ...  Want Larger  ( bad eyes )

I went to system preferences as ( Mail Help ) directed and changed the font in the Message List Font - which changes the viewing size of all my mail "Received" and then I changed the Message Font - which changes the information about " The Who From, Subject, Date and Who To Info" , BUT what about the e-mail I have to read that someone has sent me, it remains small and when I do the "Zoom" thing, it just enlarges the whole Mail Screen Window, but does not enlarge the actual font size so I read it easier.
Thanks

Okay, I see. It's the same as clicking on the green "light" of the window.
My suggestion, (hit command+), uses the same function you get by customizing the toolbar as suggested in John's posting. Thus, you can either use the button in the customized toolbar or use your keyboard.

How can I read my email from my aol account from my iphone and keep it as "unread" on my computer at home?  At home I can read an email and if I want to get back to it at a later date I can mark it as "keep as new".  I tend to forget it if it goes to "read" mail.   Right now, when I read an email from my phone it goes automatically to "read" mail.

On the iPad, using the mail app, there is no way to do what you are asking without tapping the flag icon and marking the item as unread. Have you tried the OWA app for the iPad? It may have that functionality, but I haven't tested it as you need an Office 365 subscription with Exchange support to use the app.

  • Mail wants to download every read email in my Yahoo account.

Suddenly Mail wants to download every single email, read and unread, from my Yahoo account inbox. Can anyone tell me why that might be? I like to keep email for a long time in that box as a backup, so I'd rather not have to check Remove Copy From Server. I don't think there's anything on Yahoo's end that would cause this. How do I prevent Mail from downloading read email from a server?
    -thx

Is the Yahoo account set up as a POP3 account for accessing mail? If you really want to have mail stored on the server after you've logged on to that mail server you need to use IMAP. I don't know whether Yahoo offers IMAP, but POP3 was never designed for some of the uses that people try to put it to. IMAP was.

  • Javax.mail.MessagingException: A5 BAD Command Argument Error. 12;

This error appeared on mailboxes hosted on Exchange 2007. It happens when a folder is searched with 11+ OR terms. It works fine with <= 10 subjectTerm items OR'ed together. The search term does not matter. The mailboxes are migrating from Exchange 2003 where the problem does not occur. I tested 51 OR'ed subject terms against the 2003 mailbox and it works fine. I didn't test beyond 51 terms.
I upgraded to JavaMail 1.4.2 and the problem still exists.
I'm not sure if this is a JavaMail bug or an error with Exchange 2007.

You might want to use IMAP to read mail from hMail Server, if you keep messages on server. It has a lot more features for managing messages on server.
A lot of POP3 implementations (both client and server side) will automatically delete retrieved messages. I don't know exactly what JavaMail does in that regard, nor of hMailServer, but I do know some mailservers out in the wild will ALWAYS delete mails retrieved with POP3.

  • Saving read mail

I have spent the better part of the day fixing problems with the Mail app on my computer so I could start using it instead of AOL mail. I had been repeatedly assured that Mail was a huge improvement on AOL. So far I have been unable to find a way to automatically save read mail to a folder somewhere. In AOL mail I can save mail as I read it. This allows me to only read the mail that I am interested in, and delete the rest, knowing that I have saved the good bits. If OSX Mail can't do this, I have just wasted my day. Saving read mail is every bit as important as saving sent mail, why aren't they treated the same? Can anyone help?
    Mac Kerr

    Hi again, Mac Kerr
I have spent the better part of the day fixing
problems with the Mail app on my computer
    Yeah! I know!
I agree with what Mulder and Allan have said, but I also believe there is a point in what you're saying and it is actually trivial to accomplish something equivalent using a smart folder. You just have to "think different".
Rather than focusing on saving messages as you read them, let's realize that they are all already saved by default, so what you really want is to view the unread ones separately and get rid of the unwanted ones as you view them. Do Mailbox > New Smart Mailbox and choose Message is Unread from the condition pop-up menu.
That's it, really! Use the Smart Mailbox as your main mailbox. Every message deleted from it will be deleted from the Inbox as well and, hence, won't be saved. Every message read will disappear from the Smart Mailbox as soon as you select another mailbox and go back to the Smart Mailbox, but it won't actually be deleted, it just won't appear there because it no longer meets the condition.

I'm reading way to many bad things about the new Lion... is it worth the upgrade and hassle or will this push me back to Google for e-mail, calendars and contacts? I love my Mobile.Me... Why change whats working for an OS thats not working ?

The more you read these forums the more you'd mistakenly think that Lion is generally a problem.
For every person who comes here with a problem there's many thousands who are running Lion hassle-free, including me.
I've used MobileMe since the beginning and have happily moved to iCloud, There's a couple of things you may miss from MobileMe in the short term but those things like iWeb hosting are going away anyway in June.

  • Mail wants to use the restricted Service "Search With Google."

This is the response/error I see when I try to do a Google search from an email message - "Mail wants to use the restricted Service “Search With Google.”"

Interesting - I just created a new user account I named "Test", and tried "Search With Google" in Notes and it worked fine in this new account.  Without any additional change, I went back into my normal user account, and tried to use "Search with Google" on the highlighted word, and it pulled up the Google search fine as well.  No reason I can think of that these actions would have resolved the problem - e.g., either the creation of the "Test" account, or switching between this "Test" account and my normal account.  Possibly creating new account caused a cleanup of the Safari preferences to point to version 6.0.(essentially reset the default)
Would be curious if droow007 solution works for others.  Definitely quicker than the route I went :~)

  • Mail wants to use the "login" keychain

I have recently upgraded my macbook pro to the next gen mac book pro.  When starting up my new computer i tranfered all of the info from my old mac to my new mac via the welcome screen that appears when starting up a new mac for the first time.  After this, a problem is occuring in mail.  Everytime I open mail after i restart my computer, a window appears and asks the question 'Mail wants to us the "pattygeorge" keychain".  I cannot stop this no mater what i try.  What I found is that the new computer has shortname that differs from my old computer shortname i.e. patgeorge (new) vs. pattygeorge(old).  Please help me remedy this

    Strgzr wrote:
Mark I too am getting request each time I restart iMac that "Mail wants to access keychain". I don't know what you mean from this pic which thing to move to where? Please explain:(I blocked out pers.info in pic)
I didn't make a specific suggestion to the previous poster, and I don't have a specific suggestion for you.
Mail will want access to some keychain if you told it to save passwords; that's where it saves them. The keychain named "login" (the top one at the left of your picture) is usually unlocked when you log in. If your mail password is stored in a keychain not currently unlocked, the system will ask if it is OK for Mail to access that keychain.
You have five keychains. Three (login, System, and System Roots) are standard. I can guess that the Symantec keychain is used by some Symantec software you have installed. I have no idea what the one that starts "Priva" and ends "tedDatak" is.
The message you get should indicate the name of the keychain that Mail is trying to access. (In the original question, 'Mail wants to us the "pattygeorge" keychain", "pattygeorge" was the keychain name.) If you want to have the mail passwords available to Mail without prompting, you can move their entries from a locked keychain to one that is already unlocked when Mail wants to access them.
The mail passwords should be of type "Internet password" and should have names corresponding to the names of your mail servers. For example, imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com for Gmail reading and sending respectively.

  • Mail wants to re-download 1500 messages from my POP server

I tried the delete the "MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2" file trick and it's not working... (I don't know why there's a number 2 at the end"
Everything's been fine with me and Mail.app for the few weeks I've been using it. Last week, however, I noticed that Mail could no longer tell me which messages had been Removed From my Machine (in order to delete them from the server).
Now, Mail wants to download all 1500 messages from my POP server. I noticed this only by accident in the Activity Viewer.
How can I slap Mail and tell it to only download previously un-downloaded messages?

What does "it's not working" mean? It seems to me that it's working pretty well. You deleted it, and now Mail downloads everything still on the server again, which is exactly what deleting that file accomplishes...
    I don't know why there's a number 2 at the end
Because Mail 2.0 uses a different file than what Mail 1.x used. It was called MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded (without the 2) in Mail 1.x.

By restoring the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 file that you deleted previously.
Alternatively, you can choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu located below the list of mailboxes in the main Mail window to open the Account Info window -- type "Account Info" in the search field of Mail Help for more information on this feature. This allows you to selectively remove any messages from the server without having to download them.

You probably wont be able to open these attachments because your operator may have restricted you from opening large files whilst connected to its network.
Try connecting via WLAN and if this doesn't still help that means the file you are intending to open is not compatible with device you are using.
Should you run out of options and require further assistance, your nearest care point can be found from here.
We look forward to all your further comments.
