Reading objects from a binary file works but crashes LabVIEW on exit

I've been hunting for the source of some crashes on LabVIEW exit and I was finally able to track it down to this. In my application I wrap measurements into objects that I stream into a binary file during the inspection. In another application I read the file again to browse and analyze the measurements. All this seems to work just fine except that the reading part causes LabVIEW to crash once I close the IDE. Built applications don't report any crashes but I am afraid if it might still cause some instability or unexpected behaviour.
The snippet below represents the writing and reading scheme I use and with which I am able to reproduce the problem every time. I attached the project for testing it.
Parts from the internal warning report:
#OSName: Windows 8.1 Pro N
#AppName: LabVIEW
#Version: 13.0f2 32-bit
DWarn 0xEFBFD9AB: Disposing OMUDClass definition [LinkIdentity "Class 1.lvclass" [ My Computer] even though 1014 inflated data instances still reference it. This will almost certainly cause a crash next time we operate on one of them.
Possible path leak, unable to purge elements of base #0
 The full log is also attached.
Notes:
Remember: the reading works without any problems, the crash after LabVIEW exit is what I'm concerned about
Seems to only happen with classes/objects—not the default LabVIEW Object, though
Prepending array size or different byte orders make no difference
The writing is time critical, the reading is not, in case you wish to suggest other options
Has anyone else run into this? Should I be concerned for the built applications or can this be simply ruled as an IDE problem?

Right off, if you say you can read and write lv objects, try casting your object as a lv object before saving it. The lv object is the ultimate parent of all classes.

  • Reading an object from a binary file

    i am writing objects into my binary file using printwriter class. i am able to write objects into the file but i am having problems reading the object from the file. is there any other way of going about it. i tried using the objectoutputstream and object input stream class. but i am getting run time errors coz of something to do with serialization
    i am storing records as a object into a binary file so that it is easy to seek my records

    Of course you have trouble reading objects after you wrote them with a PrintWriter.
    You should rather have fixed the Serialization errors: only objkects that implement Serializable correctly can be serialized.

  • An applet that has to read data from a binary file

    Hello,
    I'm writing a simple applet-based trivia game. I want to send the questions together with the applet class as a binary file (I first created an object for a single question, then had an array of questions, then serilaized it and called the file "question.bin").
    I can't get it work, though. Here is what I've done:
         File file = new File("questions.bin");
         try {
             FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(file);
             ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(fis);
             questions = (Question[])in.readObject();
             in.close();
         catch (Exception exp) {
             layout.show(this, "errorMessagePanel");
             repaint();
         }Not only that it doesn't work, it doesn't even execute the catch part. What have I done wrong? How will I do it right?
    Thanks is advance.

    Oops, forgot to mention that I had put the applet class, Question.class and question.bun in a jar file and specified it as the archive in the applet tag.
    The problem seems to be that file in null even after File file = new File("questions.bin"); has been executed.

  • How to create an object of a binary file?

    Does anyone know how I may create a serializable object of a binary file?
    Thanks.

    Sorry for the late reply.
    No, I'm not trying to deserialise a serialised object. My intent is to create a serialisable object from a binary file and then store this object in a JMS Queue.
    One option is to create a byte array of the binary file. Wondering if there are other options available.

    Hi Folks,

  • How to continue to read Object from a file?

    At some program I write an object into a file. This program will be called again and again so that there are many objects which are saved to that file. And I write another program to read object from this file. I can read the first object but can not read the second. However if I delete the object in that file (using editplus, by manually) I can read the second. Because now the second object is the first object. (Delete first object).

    Thanks Jos.
    Perhaps you are correct.
    There are some code in a SessionBean to log an object. Write file code is below.
         private void logPreRegError(
              byte[] strOldFifData,
            byte[] strNewFifData,
              String requestID)
              throws TTSHException {
              if (requestID.equals(RequestConstants.ADMIT_PATIENT)){
                String runtimeProp = System.getProperty("runtimeproppath");
                FileOutputStream fos = null;
                   try {
                        fos = new FileOutputStream(
                            runtimeProp + File.separator + "Error.log", true);
                    BufferedOutputStream bos = new BufferedOutputStream(fos);
                    bos.write(strOldFifData);
                    bos.write(strNewFifData);
                    bos.flush();
                   } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
                        log(e);
                   } catch (IOException e) {
                    log(e);
                   } finally{
                    if (fos != null){
                             try {
                                  fos.close();
                             } catch (IOException e1) {
                                  log(e1);
         }strOldFifData and strNewFifData are the byte[] of an object. Below is the code to convert object to byte[].
         private byte[] getErrorData(FIFData fifData, boolean beforeException, String requestID) {
            ErrorLog errorLog = new ErrorLog();
            errorLog.setErrorDate(new Date());
            errorLog.setErrorDescription(fifData);
            errorLog.setErrorModule("Pre Reg");
            if (beforeException){
                errorLog.setErrorSummary("RequestID = " + requestID +" Before Exception");
            }else{
                errorLog.setErrorSummary("RequestID = " + requestID +" After Exception");
              ByteArrayOutputStream baos = null;
              ObjectOutputStream oos = null;
              byte[] bytErrorLog = null;
              try {
                  baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
                   oos = new ObjectOutputStream(baos);
                  oos.writeObject(errorLog);
                  oos.flush();
                  bytErrorLog = baos.toByteArray();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   log(e);
              } finally {
                if (baos != null){
                        try {
                             baos.close();
                        } catch (IOException e1) {
                             log(e1);
              return bytErrorLog;
         }I have two questions. First is currently I have got the log file generated by above code. Is there any way to continue to read object from log file?
    If can't, the second question is how to write object to file in such suitation (SessionBean) so that I can continue to read object in the future?

  • View Object to read data from a java file

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 and ADF-BC in my application.
    For one of my view objects , I want the data to be read from a java file which exposes some method to return a collection.
    I cannot use a static view object in this case.
    Please suggest the best way to implement this requirement.Basically build a view object that should read data from a java file.
    Thanks,
    Praveen

    Depending on your use case you can either use a programmatic VO or directly expose the JV class as a data control.

  • Read data from a sequential file to fill an arrray

    I am trying to read data from a sequential file to fill an array and then use the array for calculations. I believe my program is reading the file; however when I try to use the data for calculations the results show up as boxes rather than numbers. Can someone please take a look and give me some insight into where I am going wrong. The sequential file has the following data:
    5.0

    ok, I fixed my program per your suggestion and I still cannot get it to work. I get the same result where the ouput is just a bunch of boxes. I also tried to print to see what I am getting and all I see is the values of the array [5.0,5.35,5.5,5.75] but I cannot seem to pass that to the calculations. I wish I could figure this out. • Read data from a text file, one line at a time.

    I need to read data from a text file, and display each line in a String Indicator on Front Panel. It displays each line, but I get Error 4, End Of Line, unless I enter an extra line of data in the file that I don't need. I tried Read From Text File.vi, made by Nat Instr, and it gave the same error.

    The Read from Text File.vi reads data from a text file line by line until the user stops the VI manually with the Stop button on the front panel, or until an error (such as "Error 4, End of file") occurs. If an error occurs, the Simple Error Handler.vi pops up a dialog that tells you which error occurred.
    The Read from Text File.vi uses a while loop, but if you knew how many lines you wanted to read, you could replace the while loop with a for loop set to read that many lines from the file.
    If you need something more dynamic because the number of lines in your files vary, then you could change the code of the Read from Text File.vi to the expect "Error 4, End of file" and handle it appropriately. This would require unbundling the error cluster that comes fro
    m the Read File function with the Unbundle By Name function, so that you can expose the individual error "status" and error "code" values stored in the cluster. If the value of the error "code" is 4, then you can change the error "status" from true to false, and you can rebundle the cluster with the Bundle by Name function. Setting the error "status" to false instructs the Simple Error Handler to ignore the error. Otherwise, pass the original error cluster to the Simple Error Handler.vi, so that you can see what the error is.
    Of course, if you're not interested in what the errors are, you could just remove the Simple Error Handler.vi, but then you wouldn't see any error messages.

    Do you have it trying to read that same file on your C drive or is the file actually deployed somewhere on the server?

    This was not my required answer.I am sorry that I was unable to clarify my question.Actually
    +This project executed successfully with some warning.Target Table is automatically created in database and also populated with data.But when I right-click Target Datastore(in >Mapping Tab of the Interface), and then select Data to View Data that needs to be inserted in the target table.I get some error like this:-...+This above line is the result of my project my problem is

    I meant to say I am facing this error

    wehre it says
    Open the Interface tab. Select Mapping tab, right-click Target Datastore - CLIENT, and then select Data. View Data inserted in the target table. Close Data Editor. Close the tabs...
    In my case when I use my sqldeveloper I can see data successfully inserted in my target table and also in error table (data that can't satisfy the constraint) .But I was unable to check this by following the above mentioned 10 th step and got this error.

  • Indesign CS3-JS - Problem in reading text from a text file

    Can anyone help me...
    I have an problem with reading text from an txt file. By "readln" methot I can read only the first line of the text, is there any method to read the consecutive lines from the text file.
    Currently I am using Indesign CS3 with Java Script (for PC).
    My Java Script is as follows........
    var myNewLinksFile = myFindFile("/Links/NewLinks.txt")
    var myNewLinks = File(myNewLinksFile);
    var a = myNewLinks.open("r", undefined, undefined);
    myLine = myNewLinks.readln();
    alert(myLine);
    function myFindFile(myFilePath){
    var myScriptFile = myGetScriptPath();
    var myScriptFile = File(myScriptFile);
    var myScriptFolder = myScriptFile.path;
    myFilePath = myScriptFolder + myFilePath;
    if(File(myFilePath).exists == false){
    //Display a dialog.
    myFilePath = File.openDialog("Choose the file containing your find/change list");
    return myFilePath;
    function myGetScriptPath(){
    try{
    myFile = app.activeScript;
    catch(myError){
    myFile = myError.fileName;
    return myFile;
    Thanks,

    Hi Bharath Raja G,
    If you want to use readln, you'll have to iterate. I don't see a for loop in your example, so you're not iterating. To see how it works, take a closer look at FindChangeByList.jsx--you'll see that that script iterates to read the text file line by line (until it reaches the end of the file).
    Thanks,
    Ole

    Auto policy updates from DC1 to DC2 work but break user and admin login in DC2.
    Is there any solution to this ?

    You will need to update your transformation rules to match the URL/hosts for dc2.

  • Reading integers from a .txt file and computing means

    I have a program that uses for loops to produce ten integers (1-10) are returns the average mean, geometric mean, and harmonic mean.
    Now i need to change this program to read integers from a .txt file and return the same data. Basically i need to change my for statements that are incrementing to read the text file.
    Thanks guys.

    You haven't asked a question. You haven't posted code. What are you expecting here?
    But I guess I'll take a stab at it and say you should look at the Scanner class
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/util/Scanner.html
    or BufferedReader
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/io/BufferedReader.html
    I'll never understand what makes people come to the forums, create an account, and ask a lazy question, when they could get a great answer much quicker through Google.

  • Can TestStand open, read, write and close binary files?

    From a TestStand sequence, I need to open, read, write and close binary files. Does TestStand support this capability?

    Christine -
    In the past I have used the C/C++ Adapter to call directly into the CVI RTE functions. The CVI functions I have used are OpenFile, WriteFile and CloseFile. The functions are exported from the DLL as CVI_OpenFile, CVI_WriteFile, and CVI_CloseFile. I just had to make sure that on termination of the sequence, that the integer handle was properly released by calling the close function.
    If you are using LabVIEW, you could call directly into the low level VIs to do a similar set of operations.
