Reading PDF annotations on iBooks on iPhone4

I have saved annotations onto a PDF file on my MacBookPro and have synced it with my iPhone4. When I open the PDF file using iBooks on my iPhone, the PDF loads but minus all my annotations. How can I view my annotations on my phone?

Hi Folks,
The problem is that the annotations are handled separately from the main data in the PDF, and may not necessarily save in the same format depending on what program you use to do the annotations.
Insane, I know, but the takeaway is that annotations are handled differently by different apps, so if you don't use the same app on both ends, there's no guarentee that you'll see anything.  Nice fail by Adobe on the Spec there.
Check out this thread for insight: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2769411?start=0&tstart=0
In the meantime, you can PRINT to pdf, and be able to view the annotations just fine.  Just don't use SAVE, or all bets are off.
Good luck.

  • Can't read PDF's in iBooks after upgrade to IOS 5

After upgrading to IOS 5 (and selecting no sync to avoid PDF's disappearing) I can't open any of my PDF's in iBooks. I can't see covers, and if I select any of them, they only change to a "selected color", but they never open. Please help.

I just opened iBooks for the first time since upgrading my iPad to iOS 5. At first, I saw all my PDFs, but the cover pages were rendered in generic text. Then... they suddenly disappeared. I had all sorts of important references, manuals, documents for a trip I'm about to take. All gone.
From what I'm reading here, it looks like I'm not getting them back easily. Even if I can use tools to extract them from a backup (now in iCloud, hmm...) I'll have to get them into another app, so I can use them. If I can't get them back from iCloud, and they're really gone from the iPad, I'm screwed.
    So very un-Apple.
I'll submit a report to Apple. I hope they fix this, but I'm surprised that such a big bug got through.

  • Annotated pdf files lose annotations in iBooks

I annotated some pdf files using "Preview".  I saved the file then retieved it.  All the mark-ups were saved.
However, after I copied those files to iTunes and synched my iPad with those files I was disappointed.
When I opened the pdf files in iBooks on my iPad, none of the annotations were there.  How can that be?  Is there a way to fix that?
    thanks
    Rick Conklin

    Hi Rick,
You can view the annotated PDFs in iBooks on an iPad providing you print the annotated pages first as PDFs when opened in Preview. Just reinsert the printed annotated pages into the PDF using the usual drag and drop from the thumbnail view, removing the original pages as you go. Then save the modified document to iBooks on the iMac and sync with iTunes as usual. When opened on the iPad, all your annotations should be there.
I haven't tried this yet, but you should be able to print the whole, originally annotated document to PDF using Preview, creating a pemanently annotated copy of the original. This may only be successful if the page sizes are uniform throughout the original.

  • I use ibooks reading PDF documents. How can i mark text in PDFs in ibooks?

I use the application iBook reading PDFs. How can I mark text in PDFs?

For Tagged PDF the replace page approach ought to be avoided.
The behavior seen when replace page is used for an existing page having annotations is not present.
Insert of a tagged PDF into another PDF can be a problem as well. The "incoming" structure tree is always placed at the end of the existing structure tree.
Manually remediating this can become nasty very quickly.
Using the Touchup / Edit text tool on a 'good' tagged PDF ought to be avoided as well.
    Be well...

  • While reading PDF document using Speak Screen option, iBooks doesn't turn pages automatically

I have been using the speak screen option in iOS 8 to read books and pdf documents in iBooks app. iBooks app turned pages automatically and kept on reading the screen till i updated my phone to iOS8.3. Now, the app stops reading the screen once the page is completed. I have to stop my vehicle, unlock phone, open iBooks app, swipe down with two fingers. It's irritating.
Earlier, I have read dozens of books and pdf documents using this function while doing exercise or routine tasks. now it's not possible unless someone helps.
Thanks for your support in advance.
    Mukesh

    @Mukeshnnms
Unfortunately, I am having precisely the same issue since updating to iOS 8.3 with my iPhone 5s.
I just filled out a bug report here > https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html, which I've often read on these forums is the best way to get some resolution. I don't know if you read the list of "fixes" for 8.3 or not (here: iOS 8.3), but, it includes the following:
"Fixes an issue in Speak Screen where speech will not start again after pausing"
So...apparently, in fixing THAT problem, they broke something else. At least for some of us...
<Note to self: WAIT even longer than usual to do updates, read about bugs first.>

  • HT204365 I have many PDFs in my iBooks , but I cannot transfer them out or email them? I'm trying to view them in a PDF reader but its as if these docs are permanently stuck in there even though everything is stored in iCloud.  I can't figure this out.

My PDFs stored in iBooks cannot be transferred out reviewed by other apps this is very frustrating because I have many manuals documents and check list all in iBooks but it seems that once you choose to "open in iBooks" this document is now stuck trapped inside here and I am unable to view any of these PDFs with a more dance PDFReader.
Yes I'm enabled iCloud on both my PDFReader's and in my iPad for my documents.  I can't even select one of my PDFs to transfer into my dropbox or another cloud storage device so again these documents which I've collected over the last few months or now trapped in this horrible PDF reading program.

When I open emails with PDFs I click on the attachment (doing this all on my iPad) it gives me the option to "open in iBooks", I accept then after that the document is sucked into my iPad but I can't do anything with the PDF after that.  Where is the actual file on my iPad? Why can't I email or send these PDFs to my cloud (Dropbox)?
It's like once they go into iBooks they're stuck forever.

  • Ibooks alternative to read PDf's in iPhone 3g?

    Hi there,
I understand the iphone 3g cannot download the latest version of ibooks as it is for ios5. I don't have an older version of ibooks I can use, to put on my old iphone, so unfortunately this is not an option.
I also see alot of alternative apps no longer work for 4.2.1 either, for the same reason. (kobo, kindle etc)
So.....I was wondering if 1) anyone knows of an app that will allow me to read PDF's on my old iphone 3g and can be downloaded from the app store?
                                        2) a way to view and organise .pnf files on my iphone 3g instead?
I wanted to use my old iphone 3g at the gym for music and using (.pnf or .pdf I have same fil) files that have all my work outs on them. I have about 80 pdf's that I wanted to file into sub folders, that I use from week to week. I can do this with all my PDF recipes in ibooks I am using on my ipad. Hopefully I can do the same!
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks...So annoying. I have over 80 files.
I will keep hunting and see how I go.
Thanks for your help! ANy other help would be great

  • Can I read a single PDF file on iBooks, Kindle and Adobe PDF?

    Hi there,
Is it possible to read a PDF file on iBooks and also read that same file on Kindle and Adobe Reader on the iPad?
I can't seem to do that and it seems silly to have 3 copies of the same file, in the same format, to be able to read on these 3 apps!
Should there be a book library such that when I open any of those apps, it goes to that library and displays the books and files that it can actually open!
It seems logical for this to be the case but somehow... ???
    Maz

A pdf located in iBooks cannot be read by the other two apps, and vice versa.
Why not just use the one app for all your pdfs?
As with any library, a library can only display what is available on its own bookshelf.
    It seems illogical to me....

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

  • Can books/pdfs saved in iBooks be transferred across devices (iPad2 and iPhone4) with iCloud?

Can books/pdfs saved in iBooks be transferred across devices (iPad2 and iPhone4) with iCloud?  My documents in Pages is on both the ipad and iphone automatically as soon as i connect both to wifi.  The stuff in ibooks did not do this. Also- I am backing up my phone right now to icloud... it says must be plugged in, connected to wifi, and locked.   So after I do this, all of my icloud-able contents will be available on my ipad??

You might look into using Dropbox for that.  I use it between Macs but haven't tried it with my Phone.

  • Reading PDF in iBook

If I try to read pdf in iBook - it is  opening them in preview.
Changing the default app to read pdf to iBook gets iBook into infinite loop!
What is the procedure to *open* pdf in iBook and not in preview?
IBook is not opening any pdf.

yes, it is so annoying, it crashed my ibook, it should just SIMPLY open in ibook, feel a bit disappointing.

  • IBooks alternative app for reading PDFs

Now that iOS 7 successfully killed reading PDFs on iPad, is the a real alternative to reading user-generated PDFs on the iPad?

I never had a problem reading PDFs on my iPad until I “upgraded” to iOS 7. Thank you for pointing me to Adobe PDF Reader. It works very well. The only thing is that PDFs have to be uploaded (or ADDED) to the app, through the APP tab in iTunes when your device is connected, and then Sync-ed. Whereas before I would just drag PDFs into the Books window of iTunes and they would automatically be read into iBooks.
This is only an issue for user generated PDFs (even though i'm using Preview of Adobe Acrobat Pro [9.5.5] in OS 10.8.4). Web or commercially downloadable PDFs continue to work in iBooks.

  • When will Adobe Reader support annotating pdf documents on a microSD card in lollipop android?

I really like Adobe Reader for annotation of pdf files on an external microSD cards in phones and tablets. Android Kitkat took access away. Android Lollipop gave it back.
When will Adobe Reader support annotating files on external micoSD cards in Lollipop?

Thanks for your request. We have noted it down for consideration.

  • How to open a "PDF Documents" in iBooks?

    Hello!
In order to "study" some documents (underline, write comments, etc as it was presented in the Maverick Video Show), i added some pdf documents to iBooks (on Maverick).
How to open it/them? when i click on a "book" (document), nothing happens. Why?

The annotations tools you describe only work on iBooks, not PDFs.
when you click on a PDF in iBooks Library, the document should open in Preview. Is that not happening?
