Reading pdf files in Firefox

Firefox for Android seems to have lost the ability to display pdf files from websites. Instead it downloads 2-3 files named with jumbled characters including the word "part", none of which I can open. There seems to be some interaction with MobiSystems OfficeSuitePro, because when I uninstall that, the problem disappears. OfficeSuite denies being the default for anything. The problem does not occur with the Android Internet browser.
Firefox: v31
My phone: Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000
Android: 4.1.2
Thanks!

Hi Efskeff,
I understand that you have experienced an issue in displaying pdf files from websites. Since they download in parts and with jumbled characters are there options to open the dowloaded pdf file in a different program?
The program you mentioned uninstalling does list pdf as a compatible file extension: ("Full compatibility with Microsoft formats DOC, DOCX, DOCM, , XLS, XLSX, XLSM, PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX, PPTM, PPSM and support of common formats as PDF, RTF, TXT, LOG, CSV, EML, ZIP; Open Office formats - ODT, ODS and ODP.")
Do you have an example url of where a pdf downloaded where the is happening consistently?
Also if it cannot be reproduced when the app was uninstalled, have you also asked the OfficeSuitePros's support?

  • Can't read PDF files on firefox OS

I am using Intex Cloud FX firefox phone. I have installed PDF Viewer but the apps is not working for me.It just kept loading and after a long time failed to open pdf file.
    Any help???

Mozilla is constantly working on Firefox OS. It is not designed for fun. Mozilla is constantly working and improving on Firefox OS. The PDF file you may want to view is just too big and the PDF viewer app cannot handle it - that's probably why it never finishes loading.
Firefox OS is currently aimed at entry-market level countries. I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed with Firefox OS at this moment. You may want to check with your manufacturer if they will release updates for your device. I have tried out newer versions of Firefox OS, and may somewhat be better than the version that you currently have installed.

  • Cannot use firefox to read pdf files

I get an error massage when I try to open a pdf file. Says it cannot read it in my browser. The funny thing is, that most times, it does open the file anyway! But unfortunately not always.

    Hi petrea9,
Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is a lot of useful information in there and some troubleshooting tips. You might want to check to be sure your reader is updated.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • When I try to download Adobe Reader firefox says I need additional plugins. Then it says there are no plugins available. I can't get PDF files in firefox. Please help.

Adobe Reader will not download. It says my browser needs additional plugins. I click on download plugins and it says there are no plugins found.
I cannot read any PDF files from Firefox.

Try removing the Adobe DLM from your extensions in firefox. It will ask you to restart firefox. After restarting the pdf files should show in your browser as usual. This worked for me.

I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Thanks for your assistance. If there is another Adobe reader I should download and install, could you provide me with the link to it? I appreciate your assistance here
== When I download and try to read a .pdf file and when I am asked to turn off all Firefox files and if I do, I lose them since I need to know how to save them without rebooting my computer.

Brilliant! Problem solved! Thanks so much.

  • When a pdf file is accessed through an online link nothing appears although I can open and read pdf files otherwise.

I uninstalled then reinstalled Firefox 7, but still get a blank page when I click on a pdf file link. I have no trouble reading PDF files stored on my PC. I use Foxit Reader.

  • I can no longer open .pdf files in Firefox 4

Ever since I moved to the beta version of Firefox 4, I have lost the ability to view .pdf files in Firefox. I was convinced this was a problem totally with Firefox, but at around the same time I upgraded from an old G4 PPC laptop to a new Macbook Pro. Now I find I can't view .pdf files in Safari either. Is this a problem with Firefox, or a problem with the way I have configured my new computer?

I have the same problem and I agree with firebunny. This is really bad style from Mozilla. You should have thought about a problem such as viewing pdf's in the browser and compatible pdf-reader plug-ins.
My Adobe Acrobat plug-in was disabled by default when I installed FF 4 rendering viewing and downloading pdf's impossible. Now I am stuck with this browser and am considering going back to the last 3.6.16 version that I still use at my workplace without any problem.
Also I agree that this has nothing to do with the pdf readers that should be installed on the PC but with FF 4. I can prove this since I installed foxit-reader which also comes with a FF compatible plug-in. Neither here did selecting this as the default pdf application help nor does it enable downloads.

  • Why am I unable to select within the URL bar of a new tab after opening a .pdf file in Firefox 4?

    To repeat the problem:
1.) Open a .pdf file in Firefox 4
2.) Open a new tab by using the (+) tab button
3.) Try to select within the URL bar (unsuccessful)
I cannot seem to direct my browser to a new website in a new tab after viewing a .pdf file within the browser.

Restore your default toolbar by going to Customize - Restore Default Set. I just found it out myself.

  • I cannot view PDF in Firefox at the first time but once I manually open the PDF file from my local computer, I can view other PDF files via Firefox webbrowser

I install Adobe Acrobat 9 in my laptop which runs on windows 7. I use Firefox 3.6.8 and have the problem with the PDF file. The problem is I cannot open the PDF file in Firefox web browser at the first time I launch firefox. It shows a warning box without any message. Only OK button is shown so I can close it. However, if I manage to open the PDF file from my local computer by just using adobe acrobat itself then the PDF can be opened in the Firefox web browser. I followed the instruction on the mozilla help but nothing works for me. The problem still exists. I wonder if anyone have the same problem like me and know how to solve this. Thank you so much

    Hi there!
I cannot help you, but I think we have a common problem: We got a system here running Vista SP1 with Acrobat 9 standard on it. When we open a pdf file it works normally, but when we open another pdf file, we see the first one in that second window.
Think that missing option to watch several files within a single window-thing messed up more than meets the eye ... but as we just purchased the 15 licenses, we have to use version 9.
I didn't find any clues on this problem, but I will post any new hints I get.

  • Downloading pdf files with firefox 6.0.2 doesn't always work but pdf files do download with IE

for example the home page for the web site kerrville.org has several items to download and most are pdf files using firefox version 6.0.2 the download seems to start but never completes . If I use IE version 8 at the same web site I'm able to download any and all of the pdf files. I have tried this several times and get the same results each time.

I would just get rid of the create PDF 1.1 and go with CutePDF instead. It's a much better program, it's free, and it doesn't create all the issues that the Adobe software does.

Hey thanx for the help, it worked like a charm.
I think firefox changed the application lay out, as I used to be able to choose my PDF opener from the list at " Adobe Acrobat Forms Document' where I could choose Nitro-PDF reader, but it has now moved all the way to the bottom like you suggested to the obvious place of "Portable Document Format" section.
If someone didn't tell me , I wouldn't have scrolled all the way down to be able to find it... it really should be with all its cousins up the top...
    Cheers again..
