Reading Photo's from CD-R TDK Disk

Hi to Anyone,
I was sent some photo's on a TDK CD-R 700MB disk. I can view most of the photo's but there is one folder that won't open for reason's I cannot figure out. I am not 100% savy with my IMac yet, but continue learning. The message I keep getting was "Choose an Application to open". I tried several places and ended up picking Adobe, which was probably incorrect right? Anyway, I get a new message saying cannot open either because the items were previously emailed, disk damaged or cannot read program. Can you help me?. Where should I have attempted to open in?
Sincerely,
Debbie R.

This question was a duplicate of an answered question by Thomas Bryant. I didn't realize it was the same until I re-viewed it again. Please considered this answered with the connecting question: "Problem w/Reading Photo's from CD"

  • Delete photo's from organizer catalogue AND disk with one click?

    Hi,
When deleting photo's from the organiser, PSE asks if i only want te remove the file from the organizer catalogue, or as well from the disk. In fact, i always want to do that. Now, it takes 2 clicks to confirm to delete a photo, which is time-consuming.
is it possible to delete photo's from the organiser as well from the harddisk with one click? (or, just by clicking 'delete'.)

    fatmax3m wrote:
Well, thats your opinion. IMHO, it's truly crappy. When sorting out photographs, en wanting to delete a hundred, it's really not convenient having to do all those extra clicks.
I think Adobe should offer some tweaking features, for questions like this...
    But, thanx for the answer.
If your main issue is to delete rapidly hundreds of files from disk, there are better ways in the Organizer. Did you notice that deleting a single file from catalog and disk is slow ? Even  deleting a dozen of selected files from disk (a single additional click) is slow. So, the best choice is to work in two steps. The first one is to select all the files to be deleted (a hundred, a thousand...) and mark them in some way : using the 'hide' feature, assigning a 'tobedeleted' tag (immediate even for dozens of selected files); then with all the files selected, delete from disk (and go drink a coffee...).
I won't discuss the obvious question that those last methods let you check all possible deletions before committing the undoable choice

  • G5 won't read photos imported from Powerbook G4

When I got the G5, I followed the instructions to start in target mode while hooked up to my Powerbook. All of the files on the laptop's hard drive transferred, but the iPhoto libraries don't contain any photos, just folders that contain "data" and "thumbs" folders, which are empty. Some of the folders have files with a ".roll" extension, but they are empty also. The hard drive on my laptop was faulty and has been replaced. Is there any way that I can somehow retrieve these photos?
    Thanks in advance.

.... The DVD plays fine in the Powerbook and also on the DVD players that I have in my home....
so, only the media seems to be the common factor...(?)

  • My Mac Mini will not read TDK disks from my iMac G3.

My Mac Mini will not read TDK disks from my iMac G3.
I used an iMac G3 (2001) -- the ones that looked like a big pod -- running on OS X and saved files to TDK  CD-R, 700 MB disks, which worked fine. Now that I have a Mac Mini (model number  A1347) I cannot get this computer to read those disks, made on the iMac G3.  Once inserted each disk will open and I can retrieve files for a short period, then the problems start. The computer makes some noises, the beach-ball/pinwheel goes around and I cannot get the files to open or the disk to eject. After a while the disk does eject -- to my relief. I keep using Control+E until ejection happens.
My Mac Mini (2010-2011) is hooked up to a View Sonic HDMI LED monitor, an iOmega external hard-drive for backing up, an Epson Stylus C88 Plus printer and to the internet by a fibre 10MB feed. The Mac Mini runs on OS X version 10.6.8 Snow Leopard: Processor Speed:2.66 GHz
I took the Mac Mini to an Apple retailer and he hooked the computer up to one of his monitors and it read the TDK disks just fine. I am now using Sony CD-RW, 700 MB disks, but I would prefer to use my TDKs because I have such a large pile of blank ones to use and there are those TDK disks with information that I want to look at from time to time. Can anyone tell me what to do?
    DJG

Try disconnecting everything attached to the Mini except the monitor.
If that doesn't work, try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later. If successful, copy the files to the original account Public/Dropbox.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • How can I import the photos from dvd or hard disk?

    Hi!
How can I import/export my photos from dvd or hard disk??!

To what?    Are you having trouble with a DVD made by a particular device, or a hard disk that was on a particular computer, or is still in that computer, and communicating to your computer?  We don't have enough details to answer the question.    Are you trying to get photos into an iPhoto certain version, Photoshop certain version, just the Finder of a  certain version, or specific operating system on your Mac?    We need more details.  Is the DVD a standard DVD, such as is indicated on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2446 or something non-standard?

  • UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before.  UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D  On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example
cannot read from source file or disk
    7z.dll
    Type application extension
    size 585kb
    date modified 7/14/2009 10.26pm
other read / copy errors include PREINST6.SWM, BOOT_32, BOOTPRIORITY, CHECKMAXPTSIZE, CHGBOOT, CPU, CPUCHECK, CREATEPARTITION, CTRLDRVINFO, DISKWIPE, DMI, DPINST32, EBLIB.DLL, ERRORDIALOG, EW3BOOTSEQ, FWLINK, FWLINK.SYS, GETHDDINFO, GETKEYSTATE, IMAGEX, INFILED, INITRECAREA, KRAIADAPI.DLL ..... at which point I decided to 'skip all' :-/
Any explanations as to what's going on and how I might be able to fix it would be very much appreciated! :-)  Thank you!
I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba.  Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
    When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
    To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
    Click ‘repair your computer’
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message.  I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy.  On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop.  I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

  • "Can't read from or write to disk...." iPod error

I recently switched from my old PowerBook G4 (running Leopard 10.5.2) to a newer MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.5). I migrated my account and permissions from the PB to the MacBook Pro, and everything is working just fine except for iTunes (version 8.0.2) and my older 160 GB iPod Classic (running 1.1.2).
NOTE: THE VERSION OF iTunes ON THE PB WAS VERSION 8.0.1.
Since the migration, I've been getting this "can't read from or write to disk..." error whenever I attempt to sync my iPod to iTunes. Previously, I'd never had any problems. I have tried to restore the iPod using iTunes - didn't work. I have tried different USB to dock connector cables - didn't work. I have even tried completely re-formatting the iPod using Disk Utility - didn't work. Everytime I begin syncing the iPod, it starts out just fine. At varying degrees of completion it ALWAYS fails with the same error.
I had an idea. I tried syncing the iPod to a different computer - my G5 4 x 2.5 GHz (running Leopard 10.5.5) with iTunes (version 8.0.2). I still got the same error. I haven't dropped it, submerged it in water or done anything to it that would otherwise compromise its functionality. So, I'm at a loss.
    PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
Does anyone have any other suggestions? - OTHER THAN BUYING A NEW IPOD

    UPDATE:
OK, after the visit to my Genius Bar; I thought of a variable that wasn't previously considered. Because their transfer of media was successful without the slightest hitch, I had to figure out something else.
Everytime I had tried to sync the iPod with my various Macs, I was using the same process. Since all of my music and movies "live" on an external 500 GB drive, I was attempting to use that same drive whenever I would try to sync. It occurred to me that possibly the failing was in the drive and not the iPod.
I have part of that library on a Power Mac G4 867 DP (running 10.4.9). I updated the iTunes on that machine to 8.0.2, connected the iPod and made a successful transfer of a large amount of media!
My only problem now is that I can't figure out how to get the 500 GB drive to stop hanging on transfer and update of my Genius information. The drive just completely stalls and I get the spinning wheel from iTunes and the application ceases to respond. When I force quit iTunes, the drive recovers fine. I don't have any problems transferring data to and from it and Disk Utility reports that the drive is healthy.
I have tried re-installing iTunes on all affected Macs - didn't help. I believe my problem may exist in the iTunes Library file or in the associated .xml document. My only concern is that if I do a completely fresh install of iTunes where those files would be re-created, I would lose all of my play and ratings data as well as the information about when my files were added. On a related note, when playing the music from this drive through iTunes. I don't have any issues at all.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  • Recovery Disk Error : cannot read from source file or disk HOW TO FIX ISSUE

I have had my satellite L655-S5096 for some time now.. I had to switch out hard-drives the other day and installed windows 7 home on it from my own disk.  I tried to download all the drivers needed, but the graphics and wifi drivers never worked, so I pulled out the old toshiba disks to start from new with this harddrive.. It gets to asking me for the second disc, then the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"  This is from the "out of the box" setting, which is recommended.  I do not know how to fix this issue besides reinstalling windows 7 from my disc and trying to get the drivers to work again.. however I shouldn't have to since I have the Toshiba recovery disks.. do I need new disks?
Yes, I also had the hard drive drivers and all of that installed.. my toshiba reads the HDD just fine.

    Hello mohkhosh,
I see that you're getting an error indicating possible hard driver failure, that you have this message from 3 different sources. I will try to help you with this.
After reviewing everything  you're looking at needing to replace the hard drive. I would suggest contacting support to see what they can do for you.

  • How to read data from PC format external disk, using Labview MAC

    Hi folks,
For years I have not been able to read data files from a PC formatted (created) external disk, using Labview for Mac. More specifically:
     - I have Labview 7.01 running on OS X 10.4.11 on a PowerBook G4
     - I have a 500GB external USB/firewire disk that was formatted on a PC and has data files (custom format) that were created on the PC. I believe that C code actually creates the files, but Labview 7/PC opens the files and appends some info (I don't think the fact that C or Labview touches the files is actually relevant to this issue though).
     - I can connect the 500 GB disk to my mac, and it will mount just fine and OS X can see all of the data files (and anything else on the disk).
     - if I use my Labview app to open and read a data file it fails:
           - open/create/replace.vi (with read-only access) shows a file dialog window that lets me navigate to any file on the external disk.
           - but, the vi returns an error 7
     - if I use OS X to copy the data file to my Mac disk, my Labview app works fine.
    So, does anyone know if:
     - I'm just doing something wrong in my Mac Labview app?
     - Labview 7.x solves this problem?
     - Labview 8/Mac solves this problem?
     - OS X 10.5 solves this problem; with Labview 7 or 8; or does OS X 10.5 worsen the problem?
    Thanks, in advance...

    Hi kehander,
Thanks for the reply. I tried filling a constant path with the Mac-defined path to a data file on the USB disk (ie "DATA2:file1.dat"). This resulted in the same error message.
I then considered that maybe I was misinterpreting the LV error message, and that perhaps I was supposed to address the file using PC-notation (ie. "DATA2\file1.dat"), even though the app is running on a Mac. No joy with this, but I get a different error msg:
"Error 1430 occurred at Open File
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  The path is empty or relative. You must use an absolute path."
Can you share what your reasoning was for your suggestion... I'm not sure I understand why a constant path would produce different results?

I would like to transfer my iTunes and photos etc from my PC to my new iMac via a external hard drive. Would somebody recommend one. I read that the Western Digital Mybook Essential 3.0 is good. Though as Mac has 2.0 is this fast enough? I am a basic user, surfing only.

If you plan on using the WD with the Mac after the iTunes transfer I would strongly recommend against WD. WD external HD's tend to be the most troublesome with Macs. If you intend to use the drive for backup using Time Machine or creating a bootable clone then I'd recommend a higher quality drive than WD. The drives I'd recommend in that case would be:
    OWC Mercury Elite Pro series
    LaCie d2 Quadra series
    G-Tech G-DRIVE series
These are all high quality drives and enclosures with similar features. Personally I use the LaCie's however I would be happy to have OWC and G-Tech on my desk too. FWIW I've been using the LaCie's for 4 years and have 4 of them, all work perfectly and have never given me any trouble.

  • Photo recovery from itunes backup

    Hi,
Today Apple swapped out my daughters IPhone 4S (for the second time in a week) as it had a repeat of a wi-fi issue. They asked me not to restore the iTunes backup as they think that the settings of the old phone may be causing some sort of firmware issue. There lies the problem, the phone is backed up but the photos and contacts are not sync'd to my computer. Is there anyway of extracting the photos from the backup to my pc without restoring the backup to the phone.
I have checked out a couple of extraction apps but they all want to charge me top dollar unless I just extract 1 photo or one contact at a time !!
    Thanks in advance

Man, that MediaRECOVER worked great from a preview standpoint! I not only saw my previously deleted photos from the last "roll" but also saw additional photos as well from earlier rolls. I wish I had this a few weeks ago...
Anyway, I haven't purchased it yet as I am in process of erase and installing OSX on my laptop again. I may have been able to get the photos from the a target disk mode data pull onto my older mac, but if that didn't work I'll simply use my latest backup file to restore all of my lost photos and use MediaRECOVER to get the photos that I added after the last backup.
    Thanks!!!
PS - For anyone considering using this, make sure you have a media card reader to create a disk image of the flash memory, and don't take any more pictures using that memory until you use MediaRECOVER. The next pictures you take will replace the "deleted" images if you do this.
