Sorry, not much expert here on SSD mods, you may get better response in the iPod Mod forum.
It has a lot of posts on successful SSD swaps and also some nasty experience on SSD which does not work on some iPod.
Read through the forum and learn together with them, and avoid frustration of getting an expensive SSD, which the iPod firmware can't recognise, and also there is not enough voltage to power up those old SSD using 5volt rails, iPod hardisk uses 3.3volts rails.
Good Luck!.

Calibrate your ipod by charging fully, then using it until it drains then charging it again. And resetting might help too.

  • IPod Classic 7th Gen Docking Compatability

I have a brand new iPod Classic 160GB with latest software version (2.0.5 PC) that is barely a week old. I have been trying unsuccessfully to get it to work properly on both the NAD VISO 1 speaker dock and the B&W Zeppelin Air (both also brand new - purchased for the iPod). The iPod docks OK with both, but the playback doesn't work properly with either one and it's frustrating the $@!^*!! out of me.
VISO 1: I have the latest firmware version on the unit and have been in contact with NAD. After confirming that I have latest firmware, they decided the unit was defective so I returned it for a brand new replacement. The replacement has the latest firmware as well and behaves the same way. The iPod will play back normally for awhile (length of normal playback is very variable) but eventually when it come to the end of a song, it just stops playing. The iPod screen still show's the unit in "play" mode, but there is no progress on the song time bar (stays at 0:00) as if it was paused. When this happens, the unit no longer responds to the remote. I can manually pause/play the iPod directly, but it does not progress. If I undock the iPod with it still showing "play" it immediately begins playing once disconnected from the NAD. Re-docking it causes it to freeze in place again. The only way to recover the NAD is to power cycle it. Once power cycled it will play normally for awhile before locking up again - as frequently as after every song. I have an older iPod Classic 80GB running firmware 1.1.2 (which is the latest for that unit) which behaves exactly the same way as the newer iPod on the VISO.
It seems highly unlikely that 2 separate brand new units would be defective in an identical fashion and seems more like a compatibility problem. I offered to communicate directly with the engineers so they could look at it and hopefully make a firmware fix, but according to NAD, the engineers tested a 160GB iPod there and were unable to reproduce the behavior. The NAD sounds great and I really want to make it work, but I can't accept it if this can't be fixed.
B&W Zeppelin Air: Decided to try the B&W since the NAD doesn't want to work right. First thing I did was upgrade it to latest firmware. Could not get it to play with the iPod at all. It connected (battery icon showed it as plugged in) but wouldn't play. I could start play manually on the iPod - and unlike the NAD it WOULD begin playing, but no sound came from the speaker. I tried with the older iPod, and it played perfectly - and sounds outrageously good too. I went back to the 160GB and still couldn't get it to play. After some trial and error, I finally discovered that if I skipped forward or backward a couple tracks, it would finally completely connect and begin playing - but the playback speed is slow. Being the holiday, I have yet to hear back from B&W.
I'm very frustrated. Both of the units sound amazing when they play, but if I can't get them to work right they are worthless.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Compatibility of the ipod nano 2nd gen to the dock for ipod classic 3rd gen

Is the ipod nano 2nd generation compatible to work with the old dock for the 3rd generation of ipod classic?

Well it's compatible in the sense that it will work with the iPod as the dock connector is the same.
However, it's way too large and the nano will be nowhere near a snug fit so you risk damage to the delicate connector pins if you are not extremely careful.

  • How to format ipod classic (7th gen)?

Windows 7 computer recognizes my iPod classic 160GB, but iTunes doesn't recognize it. It's new, and I'm thinking it needs to be formatted. Any advice?

Bear with me, if these have been tried, but at least you didn't say that you have tried everything.
    iPod Not recognised by Windows
If you are using Windows, I would suggest reinstalling iTunes, this would repair any corrupted Apple Mobile Device driver that is required for iTunes to interface with USB devices.
    After Re-installing, reboot your PC.
    Disconnect the PC from Internet
    Stop your Antivirus
Reset your iPod - Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON then release the buttons. Select you language.
Connect your iPod to a high power USB 2.0 Port and not to any USB hub. (if you using a Mac, not on the Keyboard USB port)
What do you see on the iPod Display - should be sychonisation  for a few secs then do not disconnect screen.
if iTunes comes up restore it.
After restore - Start back your antivirus and connect the Internet.
If this doesn't work, refer to this link on do a disk diagnostic by tt2 to chack the health of your hardisk.

if you hardisk is still healthy then do reformat your Hardisk.

  • My iPod classic 7th Gen  will not sync with my new computer. itunes is installed and updated.

    fellow iPod classic owners,
the problem is a failure to sync with the new computer. the conditions are as follows: the new computer is a pc. it has the latest iTunes software installed. the iPod is installed properly. i'm fully recognized by my iTunes account. there is nothing lacking other than my iPod's refusal to sync with my new computer. what have i left undone? i could be suffering from a duh, but i'm not the only one. nothing in the apple world is as difficult as this one is, at least on the surface. if it were that simple an issue, no one would be having any problems with it. any more information needed can be provided by request. by the way, the computer being used has been authorized. that is a non-issue.
                                                                                                                 your help is appreciated,
                                                                                                                     hardphil.

I believe the IPOD (Classic) uses USB 2.0,  and my new laptop uses USB 3.0.  I think they are not compatable because of this.  If you find a solution to this please let me know.
    Thanks,

My iPod Classic has worked fine since I got it last year with my laptop, but suddenly when I plug it in now iTunes says "welcome to your new iPod". The iPod itself plays fine and all my music is intact. But I now can't play it through iTunes or manage my playlists.

  • When is the next update for ipod nano 7th gen

just wondered because the ipod nano 7g is already getting boring

In the fall. You will be bored with it by February of 2014. You should wait until you grow up to buy one, say the 19th generation model.

  • Ipod classic 7th gen stuck.

hello. i got this ipod brand new from best buy two weeks ago, it worked fine until 3 days ago. i went to sleep and when i woke up the ipod was wiped, everything worked theyre was just no music, pics, etc and my settings were erased, i decided i was going to wait until i got my macbook pro to restore the ipod, yesterday i got the macbook and it said my ipod is corrupt so of course i restored it, halfway through restoring i get an error message (i forget what it was) and i decided ill look into it tomarrow. after trying to get my itunes to recognizing it today it failed. when i plug the ipod in itunes just gets the spinning rainbow ball where my mouse should be for about 5 seconds and then nothing shows up or happens. on the ipods side when i turn it on unpluged it says connect to itunes, when i plug in it gives me a screen that says do not disconnect and if i do disconnect it gets a ready to disconnect screen, at both of these screens it is still responsive meaning if i lock it a lock logo comes in the corner. i have tried restoring it around 10 times, i have tried puting it into disk mode in which it just says "disk mode" at the top of the do not disconnect screen. after putting it through diog mode or whatever i got this

i dont know why my reallocs and pending sectors are so high as this problem occured from nowhere. i have dropped it before but not the day that problems occured. if you know anything or ways to help i would appreciate it. if my ipod is totally unfixable its not too terrible since i have insurance/warrenty with best buy but i would like to have a working ipod asap.
oh and before i had this mac i had a windows computer. thank you.

  • Does iPod Classic 6th Gen support a headphone remote for pausing/playing, adjusting volume, and advancing the track?

I know that the 7th Gen does support this feature, and my iPod video (5th Gen) does not.

    The listing for Apple's EarPods
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD827LL/A/apple-earpods-with-remote-and-mic
under Compatibility, shows it supporting back to "iPod classic 120GB (2008)."
The official list of iPods does not actually name iPods after the 5th gen model by a "gen" name, but if you look at the list
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
it is clear which one "iPod classic 120GB (2008)" refers to.  There is an earlier "iPod classic" ("6th gen") model from 2007 that is apparently NOT supported by the EarPods.  But it's possible that Apple's older headphones with remote control works with it.
