Reading War and Peace on an iPod touch?

Question

If I want to read a long text, like War and Peace on an iPod touch, how would I do that? I have the text file. It is just a matter of getting it in a readable format on the iPod.
I could not read it from the Web, as I intend to read it when I travel by bus, air or train without WiFi.
I could read it as a movie, if I found a way to enter all the text onto a quicktime film, but so far I do not know any way to do that.
Is there any other way to bring the iPod touch up to the level of functionality of my 1987 PC with Dos 3.3?

That's also a clever idea and almost usable. Unfortunately there are some flaws with it.
To start with, I do not have iPhoto on my Mac. My work around there was to get a customized page size, to get enough pixel by page and then to print to a standard PDF, then open it in Adobe Acrobat Pro and there save to JPEG which creates one JPEG per page. Unfortunately the PDF became strange, and the entire first volume of War and Peace ended up on just 22 pages with a minuscule font, which of course looks just like dark blobs on the jpegs. I then went straight to InDesign and created a file with the entire text. InDesign actually has an "export to JPEG" option, so I chose that one. It quickly created 433 jpegs of high quality. Unfortunately the average size is 200k so the total for the first volume is 80M and the font is still too small. With a larger font size I might get up to almost half a G for the first volume alone, I guess.
I may not go that far for this particular book, but it was nice to see that there is some kind of solution.
