Ready-for-use?

Hi,
is the iPad ready to use when you unpack it (and charged it), or do you need to initialize/register it in iTunes first before you can use it?
Thanks

Of course, if you let them do it, none of your stuff (from your iPhone primarily) will transfer.
This is not such a bad thing. There ended up being many things that I wanted or needed on my iPhone that just weren't what i wanted on the iPad. It ended up being a far nicer experience choosing what I wanted on the iPad that worked with the way I wanted.

  • "This drive is not ready for use; it's door may be open ..."

    Hi.
I recently updated to itunes 7, and then had an issue with a corrupt file on the i-pod (which resulted in chkdsk hanging itself at 27%, always). So I restored the i-pod and that took care of that - chkdsk now says it's fine.
However - it is also empty. My machine and i-tunes recognize it fine upon start-up; however, a short while into a full synch to get my library back on the i-pod, I invariably get the following error message:
"The drive is not ready for use; it's door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddisk\DR 3 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed." The message comes with the options "cancel, ignore and continue", yet the latter two don't make a difference, and even if I choose cancel, itunes keeps trying until it eventually crashes.
This always happens after itunes has synchronized about 1.13 GB (out of 18.55 available).
As far as I can tell, both my system and the iPod are up to date (itunes and windows update say so, anyway). E: is unequivocally and exclusively allocated to the i-pod; changing the settings from "optimize for quick removal" to "optimize for performance" has made no discernible difference.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hullo ...
let me follow up on this again. I've followed your advice, de-installed spybot, no change. I looked through the windows support help base, nothing. While trying out different things, I started getting a "delayed write failed" message, and I did some things they suggested (including adjusting the registry - me, adjusting the registry!)and it went away, and now all I get is the "open door" message again.
That is: everything works absolutely fine, I plug in the i-pod (latest version i-tunes and i-pod is up to date), it's recognized instantly by the explorer as well as i-tunes. I've run all scans you can possibly run on it, and it is fine (no corrupt files, nothing). I've restored it twice through i-tunes, twice through the explorer. I've changed the drive letter.
It starts the synch fine (it's still almost empty after the last restore), but at some point, I get the error message. Interestingly enough, *up to* that point, it'll synch fine - I can disconnect it and play on it whatever's been synched thus far. I can also modify my i-tunes settings and preferences, all of which i-tunes will recognize and adhere to. It is just unwilling to put more than 1GB of stuff onto my 20GB i-pod.
Something I've noticed is that it is sometimes indicating apparently faulty charges in the beginning (though that is quickly corrected once the synch starts), as in, it'll recognize a certain amount of audio files, but also claim a random amount of "other" files, which should not be there (apart from the 30MB or so of genuine i-pod software).
Anyhow. I haven't seen any solutions to this on the forums or in the apple help files, but people appear to be having this problem still. Any ideas or input would be very much appreciated ...
    Thanks.

3G IPOD problems which are driving me mad and i can see others have had the same problem but i can't find any solution written down.
Basically my IPOD either freezes after a couple of songs or it downloads about 6Gb (of 40) and the freezes with the following message:
"The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR6 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed"
I've tried re-setting, installing etc but no luck. Any suggestions/solutions?

Hmmmm. I'm not sure how to explain this.
You need to change the Drive Letter for your iPod.
You should be able to connect your iPod then open Windows Explorer and right click on your iPod(which seems to be Drive E:) and change it to a different letter (like H).
If you haven't enabled disk use for your iPod it probably won't appear in Windows Explorer.
To enable disk use: connect iPod, open iTunes. Open Preferences and select the iPod tab. Choose "enable disk use."
Once you've done all that, try resyncing.

Is IOS 5.1.1 ready for use in India?  I believe it had some issues

iOS 5.1.1 has been in use for a long time now. I haven't seen any posts about it not working in India.
iOS 6.0.1 is the current version of the iOS. When you upgrade your iOS your phone will be upgraded to the latest version of the iOS that it can use.

  • Drive not ready for use

when i go to update my ipod, i get this error: "the drive is not ready for use; it's door may be open. Please check drive\device\harddisk2\DR4 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the driver door is closed." then it proceedes to freeze up itunes and then the computer. So when i get this, i have to format my ipod so that i will be able to put music on it again. then after 3 or 4 updates the same thing happens. but never right after i format it. anyone have this happen before or know why this would happen? it is an older ipod, with the click wheel. and it does have the most recent update.

Try changing the drive letter for your iPod.
If you don't know how to do it, I'll look around a bit and find an article to help

iTunes transfers about 800mb of content before error message appears:

I have restored, formatted, tried different PC's always get same result. Visited genius bar and they declared that my iPod was healthy but refused to move enough content to the iPod to reproduce the problem. iPod is a little under 2 yrs old.
My confidence and respect regarding Apple and it's products is now greatly in question. I spent $400 duchats on this thing and I am starting to feel like an unappreciated client.
    Thanks for any help...

I downloaded a free Merriam-Webster Dictionary app for use on my iphone 5.  I thought I followed the download process properly, but cannot see that the app is launched on my phone.  I have checked my phone for 'updates' and the app is listed among the ones I have purchased.  I clicked on it and it began installing, however, it still has not launched.  I get a message screen to sign in with my Apple ID, which I tried, and I get the message that I have purchased this app and it will download.  When I try to sign in, I get the message that it can't connect to the itunes store and to retry.  I've done that several times without any luck...not sure where else to look for the 'working' app.  I did try re-booting the phone...even did a 'hard reset' to no avail...help?

  • How to check that a time machine backup is ready for use?

Two of us share a time capsule via ethernet.
One machine has died and will need to be restored -- it's been recommended to me to format that machine's drive before reinstalling Leopard.
Now I know that my machine has faithfully backed itself up. I can assume that her machine has been backing itself up, but I don't know that for sure, for sure. Is there a way I can check out the capsule from my machine to confirm that it contains a backup set for the other machine before I format its hard drive and do the reinstall?

Yes, I understand that part -- not quite what I'm asking, though.
Is there a way, from my machine, to confirm that her machine has been actively doing backups on the capsule that we share? If I can confirm it, I'll go ahead with the clean wipe on her machine and do the reinstall from time machine. But if I can't find her backup, then I'll have to do a different approach.
Yes. The TC has 2 sparse bundles, one for each Mac. Mount the sparse bundle for her Mac, and use the +Browse Other Time Machine Disks+ option. It will show, among other things, the timeline of backups on the right of the "Star Wars" display. Those are her backups.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7590 &/or HP Slimline computer NOT ready for market

I purchased the Officejet last August and used in through December with a Dell with no problems whatsoever. When I bought an HP Slimline with Vista 64 the printer started spitting out a dozen pages with a few lines of garbage characters for each document including the Test Page, and did not completely print the documents. I spoke with three technicians who were all given remote access. We each spent about 3 hours per session. They were unable to make ANY progress in solving the problem. HP provided a VISTA 64 installation disk. It should not have done so. HP has taken no responsibility for releasing a product to market that is not ready for use but will not accept it back and will not give credit for the expensive paper weight that it has become. Moral of story: stick with Dell, don't buy anything from HP.

    Hello,
I recommend not the xmlpull jar file, but the xpp3-*.jar file found with your Enterprise installation.  It's in the "external" subfolder where you got your other Enterprise jar files.
You'll have to remove the xmlpull jar, since they'd version conflict.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Is my Droid Razr Maxx xt912 locked for use with another carrier's SIM - either in the U.S. or globally?

Is the Verizon Droid Razr Maxx XT912 locked to prevent using another carrier's SIM in the U.S.?  Is it blocked to prevent use of another carrier's SIM outside the U.S.?
    Thanks

Hi MattFlash, that is a great questions and I would be happy to help! The good news is that all of our 4G devices would be unlocked and ready for use with another carrier, so the Maxx is ready to go. If you would like to use another carriers service you may need their SIM card and would then need to follow their activation procedures. Hope this helps!

  • Is Adobe Edge Code ready for day-to-day use?

Yes and no, as it depends on what features are needed for your workflow. We hope to have a version of Adobe Edge Code that is ready for a broader day-to-day use definition within the next couple releases going into 2014 [timeline updated based upon all your recent feedback]. Until then, we'd appreciate your help in testing it out!
If you're passionate to assist in the future of Edge Code, consider contributing directly to its base open source project Brackets.
Related: What is the difference between Brackets and Adobe Edge Code?

    Manigandan,
    Thank you.
Some PCs with less RAM or slower processors cannot display Flash in a smooth and fluid motion. Te motion is jerky or hesitant, with breaks an gaps.
So, can you tell me if Edge will NOT have the same jerkiness in motion as Flash does?
Will Edge retain all graphical elements and quality....and show all motions and actions as I set in Flash?

  • My TV has only 2 HDMI conections that are all ready in use for Directv and the Blueray. Can I use composed cables to conect Apple TV

My TV has only 2 HDMI conections that are all ready in use for Directv and the Blueray. Can I use composed cables to conect Apple TV

I'm going to take a guess and say that if your TV has 2 HDMI ports, it also has a component input (5 wire).   I'm also going to guess that either your DirecTv or your Blueray has a component output option.  If I had this setup, I would put my DTV on the component option and use the open HDMI port for the ATV2.
I doubt you will be able to tell the difference on your DTV.  Most of the stores that demo HD use component wiring on their store models.  The only downside is that you may be giving up the highest sound (Dobly 5.1 or whatever they call it.)
Or you could just go to switching the HDMI cords from your BluRay to the ATV2 depending on which one you are watching.  I think I use my BluRay about 5% or less of my viewing time.  If I "tossed", I wouldn't shed a tear.
