Ready to dump my G5.  Please help me before I do!  Kernel panics gallore!

I have been experiencing kernel panics everytime I startup my G5 for the last 5 months. It started as an occassional event until it became an every time event. I got to the point that the computer would not start even after trying 10+ times successfully. I only managed to do it by booting up with a bootable CD or with my backup Firewire drive. I was unable to boot up with the Firewire drive when I selected it as a startup disk though. In any case, the kernel panics always occur at startup. I ran all kinds of diagnostics including Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro and Disk Utilities. All 3 always showed that my computer has no problems. Every test passed. I repaired permissions countless times, followed all different advices on how to deal with kernel panics, etc. I finally decided to erase my drive by zeroing and start from scratch. Before re-installing Tiger I ran diagnostics again to make sure nothing was wrong with the drive and the rest of my computer and all tests passed. I finally re-installed Tiger and to my frustration the problem continues even when all I have loaded in my computer is Tiger. I am able to startup without getting a kernel panic the first time after I have re-installed Tiger (have done it 3-4 times in the last week or so) but then on a second trial I get back to the same situation. I forgot to mention that I got the panics even while re-installing Tiger and while running Techtool Pro. I had to perform hard startups several times before I was able to complete the tests and re-install Tiger. In most cases whenever I get the kernel panics if I don't do a hard startup my diks accelerates very rapidly and gets the fans running at full and very noisy speed. Throughout this whole deal all the diagnostics tools have been unable to identify the problem. Do I need to trash my computer? As far as I am concerned I have tried everything I can think of for the last 3 months to no avail. The situation kept deteriorating with time so it sounds like a hardware problem and as if one of the internal parts is just dying a slow death. Any words of wisdom will do. I have owned close to 7 Macs over the years (this one is about 2 years old) and this is the first time I have felt like trashing one. Please Help!!

Hello!
I had the same problem once - it was the Ram, but Hardware Test didn´t get it. It just said everythings ok - So for testing if the Ram is ok, I put out all the Ram that was in and always tried 2 slices at one time. Well it works fine to check when you have more than 2 slices of Ram, but if not maybe you´ve got friends to borrow some working Ram from them. After I´ve tried that I found out that there were 2 slices out of 6 damaged. After replacing the damaged no Kernell Panics again.
But I hope you have a less costs problem!
Yours,
Jörg

  • Please help me! I have kernel panic on boot

    Greetings.
I have to be honest with you and tell you that I have a problem with my iMac computer. I'm a big fan of Apple products, especially Mac computers. I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where there is no Apple store, and that's why I bought my iMac computer in Croatia that was used that had a "kernel panic" error. After several failed attempts I managed to install "hazard OSX Snow Leopard" and the computer boots up normally but when it goes to shutdown freezes and shows "kernel panic" and says "you need to restart your computer." When I installed OSX everything is working normally, but I have no sound, the computer continues to shutdown shows "kernel panic" or "system uptime in nanoseconds ..." freeze. I bought the original OSX Snow Leopard DVD because I want to have a legal iMac computer and legal software on it. When i try to boot from original "OSX Snow Leopard" i get "kernel panic" fast after Apple logo appears. I try other discs but i get same problem. I try reset pram, nvram, SMC, i try another HDD and no help. I bought 2 original memory sticks  2x2Gb in Germany and when i put one or both , turn on Imac but no startup chime and no picture.
Please help me solve this problem. thanks
    My iMac computer configuration is:
6.1 iMac 2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo 24 "White
    S.N. W8******VGP
    Memory: 3GB, 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.2

I did all the tests with the program Tech Tool Pro and post pictures to see if everything is fine with my iMac computer. If there is still any advice please help me. I installed Snow Leopard Biohazard and boots properly except when off or reboot blue screen freeze up and only one point where the mouse is.

I have located the folder with the log files. Panic reporter ... right? i keep seeing that cpu 3 in the reports. would you like me to send you the documents sir? there are 27x 4 kb reports dating from 22 of april to yesterday..
    Best regards.

No need, that information is telling. Since it all is happening in CPU3, therein lies the problem. It could be a hiccup in on-chip cache memory or who knows what. Check out BD's response, which might eliminate the panics at the loss of a quarter of the machines processing capacity. That would be a good data point, anyway. It might be time to run the Apple Hardware test from your original install/restore Disk 1 and see if it finds anything. That would be described at page 55 of the user's guide. If something obvious is happening, it will show up there.
"If Apple Hardware Test detects a problem, it displays an error code. If Apple Hardware Test does not detect a hardware failure, the problem may be software-related." Not exactly correct, as no diagnostic can find all HW problems, even if you run it forever. In my much better compensated previous life, I worked with a couple of people who could write brutal diagnostic SW that really was effective in finding HW problems. Normal diagnostics perform a cursory function check most of the time, which turns out to be not so conclusive if the test passes. That's why things like memtest are available to go beyond the first level diagnostic capability.
User software in the aggregate is much better in finding "corner" case HW issues, usually at the most inopportune time.

  • TO CEO @ VERIZON OR TO SOMEONE WHO CARES*** PLEASE HELP ME *** BEFORE I GO CRAZY

I have a vortex by LG. I got it in feb.2011. I have had trouble with it since that day. Turning off all the time , screen locking up,  sending txt to someone different ,SD card not working ,which I have handled all these problems myself  by resetting/swiping it clean often (which is a pain) taking the battery out ,  turning it off for a few hours , blah blah blah ,you know all the stuff you do to have a phone on the go. I asked around & most other people who had this phone was pleased.  I only know off 3 other people who have this phone.  then about a 3wks ago the SD card wouldn't mount or just wouldn't read @ all. I tried everything I knew to do . I go to the Verizon store waited my entire lunch break ( 1 hour) finally someone tried to help me I told him my problem he said well your going have to buy a new SD card which was about 60$ . I felt I waited for nothing. I spent over an hour for him too hold my phone & tell me pay more money. he still couldn't tell me why it did this or how to fix it . Just pay more money . Well I had a extra SD card from my camera it worked then few day later starts the same thing , good thing I didn't buy one cause looks like I would have had to spend it again anyways ,  but I could @ least call out & get calls. Finally a few days later my screened locked up completely I tried all the blah blah blah stuff again. This time it was no fixing it . I go to a different Verizon store hoping to get better/faster help I walk in & tell the lady my problem again on my lunch break she picks up the phone dials customer service & hands me the phone. I think really I could have did this myself why are you people even here! So the guy on the phone says your still under warranty we will send you a new phone or u can upgrade & get a new phone I asked for what kind of price he said the price of the phone , I said no thanks I just paid 200$ for this phone & haven't even got to enjoy it , just send me a new phone he said it could take up to 5 days!!! What I said can , u get it here any faster he replied yes for 13$ I can ship it overnight but it would take 2 days uh, just thought he said overnight!!! I guess over night doesn't mean what it says but I said I don't feel I should pay it since I really didn't break my phone he said there was nothing he could do but it probably wouldn't take the full 5 days they just have to say that  ... Wow OK so 5 days goes by without any phone to use . I finally get the phone but it take the full 5 days, plus the 2 days I tried to fix it to avoid the stores I follow the instruction to activate it thought it was fine but then the next morning  I get a call @ work from my babysitter stating my phone still didn't work!! After work I go back to the 1st Verizon store (which I dreaded so much I would have rather shot myself in the foot , but I'm a nurse who needs my foot & phone) since I had no help from either stores guess it didn't matter which one I went too. After waiting a good 45 MINUTES for help they finally look @ my phone they were stumped on what was wrong cause it said it was activated but not working they finally call someone & the guy finally tell me its is activated under someone else's # ! OK so what do I do ?? The guy hands me the phone says they needs to  verify my address ( which I thought to make sure I account  holder )  I gave the phone back to the guy @ the store they talk for a few more MINUTES. & he said OK , I was like OK what ! Oh he didn't tell you we are going have to send you  NEW phone again!!! Really I have to go another 6 days without a phone!! He offered if I brought an old phone  back in(which I live 20 MINUTES away) he could activate that one till I get the new phone in... 1st off I don't keep old phones I recycle them ( thought that was a good thing)& even if I did have one it wouldn't be a smartphone & that's what I pay dearly for...  ( a phone store who can't lend you a phone while they are fixing your phone that you didn't break even thou you are still paying them for a phone)  MESSED UP RIGHT! He said it shouldn't be that long they are going to overnight it for free but it was Saturday So he said I should get it TUESDAY.**lol overnight what !! Do I not know what overnight means***  I was like yeah yeah YOU ALL say that ! I left the store in tears I depend on my phone I have a 1 yr old child & my job depends on my phone as well . I go home from work Tuesday no phone image that , Wednesday I get a letter from fedx stating I was not home to sign for this device ! Really cause the last one was just put in my mailbox , didn't have to sigh anything the 1st time. I finally get the phone on THURSDAY. It was late so I waited till Friday to activate since I have already been without a phone for 12 days now. Today is Saturday. Guess what??? My phone is saying to mount the SD card again ! OK really I just been thru 3 phone in 13 days!! I DON'T FEEL I HAVE DONE ANYTHING WRONG TO MY PHONE . I KNOW NEW TECHNOLOGY IS GOING  TO HAVE ITS MISTAKES SOMETIMES !! BUT NOT @ MY COST!!! I DON'T THINK I OR ANYONE DESERVES THIS! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO????? I CAN'T AFFORD TO GO BY A SD CARD VERY FEW DAYS!! I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY *****DEARLY****  FOR SOMETHING THAT I DON'T GET TO EVEN USE & NO ONE EVER OFFERED TO PRO-RATE BILL!!!!  I PAY A 175 $ A MONTH I FEEL THAT SHOULD BE CUT IN HALF SINCE I HAVE HAD NO PHONE FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS!!!! I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK TO TO STORES & THEM DO NOTHING BUT WASTE MINE & THEIR TIME ! I CAN'T AFFORD 200$ TO GET OUT OF CONTRACT WHEN I HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG !!! IF I DROPPED THE PHONE IN WATER OR BROKE THE SCREEN I WOULD PAY . I HAVE NO PROBLEM TO PAY TO FIX SOMETHING I DID  OR BROKE !!! I FELL VERIZON IS DOING THIS TO MAKE A LITTLE EXTRA MONEY @ MY EXPENSE. I'M A GOOD HARDWORKING PERSON WHO PAYS FOR EVERYTHING !! NOW I EVEN PAY FOR THING THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ME !! I'M SO FREAKING FRUSTRATED I CAN'T THINK!!! CAN VERIZON WHO MAKES BILLIONS PAY FOR BETTER HELP OR WHAT HAPPEN TO MAKING THE CUSTOMERS HAPPY!!! I JUST WANT A PHONE THAT WORKS !! IF THE VORTEX IS JUST A PIECE OF S**T LET ME PAY THE DIFFERENCE TO GET A DIFFERENT PHONE !! WHY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR A NEW PHONE!!! WHAT IF I DO PAY FULL PRICE FOR A NEW PHONE & ITS DOES THIS AGAIN !!! DO I JUST KEEP BUYING NEW PHONES ???CAUSE THEY ARE HIGH!!!! I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY A NEW PHONE AFTER EVERY LITTLE HICCUP!!!  WHAT IF VERIZON DOES THIS TO SO MANY PHONES HOPING WE KEEP BUYING NEW PHONES !! DON'T THEY MAKE ENOUGH MONEY ALREADY!!! SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY PHONE !! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! MAYBE THERE IS SOMEONE BESIDE ME & ALL THE EMPLOYEES @ TWO VERIZON STORES COULDN'T FIGURE OUT                                    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    NO LUCK!!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR TRYING TO HELP!
I ASKED ONE OF THE MANY EMPLOYEES @ VERIZON IF THEY HAD MUCH TROUBLE OUT OF THIS PHONE HE SAID NO NOT AT ALL!!!! I REALLY JUST WANT A PHONE THAT WORKS I HAVE BEEN A VERIZON CUSTOMER FOR A LONG TIME NOW. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST PHONE & SERVICE I HAVE EVERY RECEIVED FROM THEM. I GUESS THE SERVICE IS GOOD WHEN YOU DON'T NEED THEM. NOW THAT I NEED THEM I HATE THEM ! NO HELP FROM THEM @ ALL. I WISH THEY COULD JUST FIX IT OR LET ME PAY THE DIFFERANCE FOR A NEW PHONE  . IAM NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING FREE. I JUST WANT WHAT I PAID FOR!!!!!! I SHOULD HAVE REPLACED IT WITH IN THE 1ST MONTH WHEN IT ALL STARTED BUT HATED TO TAKE IT BACK IF IT WAS SOMETHING I WAS DOING WRONG ! I FEEL I HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERY MAD @ VERIZON , 1ST TIME I WOULD SEND PEOPLE AWAY FROM THEM , MY HUSBAND HAS IPHONE WITH AT&T , HE TRIED TO GET ME TO MOVE TO THEM .I WISH I WOULD HAVE NOW!!  I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTIME I GOT SERVICE COVERAGE & HE DIDN'T . SO IS IT THE PHONE OR JUST BAD SERVICE ????? IF THEY WOULD LET ME OUT OF MY CONTRACT I WOULD LEAVE NOW ....

  • Please help me before i headbutt the wall. Using an external sequencer....

    Hi.
I use an Akai MPC to sequence.
I have the MPC triggering sounds from various modules. However, i want it to trigger Logic Instruments, so i would have logic running at the same time as the MPC, but with the sounds of logic being played from the MIDI info on the MPC.
I have the midi out (from MPC) running into my soundcard. When i play a pad on the MPC Logic reads the note.
I want to set up logic with 5 different software instruments (for instance), each being controlled by a different midi channel on the MPC. I have loaded 5 instruments, and set each ones MIDI Channel from 1-5 respectivly. On the MPC, i have set up 5 tracks, each transmitting through the correct midi port, but from channels 1-5. In Logic, when the instrument channel is selected, the pads play that instrument. When i select a different track in logic, the sounds stop playing. Its as if the midi signal only goes through to that specific instrument when i have that track selected.
I want my 5 instrument tracks in Logic to play at the same time, being controlled by 5 midi tracks on the MPC.
I have looked all over logic to try to find settings to adjust but with no joy. I'm thinking it possibly has something to do with the environment page. I've been reading on this but still very confused about that page!
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Danny

1.) I dont understand where I should open
    ServletOutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
If I open it in the servlet(which is what I am doing
now) I have to pass it to the method. This seems like
what I should do. Is this correct?
2.) Is there a way to check the length of
inputStream? I tried is.available(); and nothing. Not
null - Not zero - nothing - blank.
Something wrong with your logic (not your code - your logic.)
available() returns an int. So if it returned it definitely returned an int value. It might not have returned (although I doubt it) but there is no way for it to return a 'blank'.
3.)How are they coming up with this number in this
    line? byte b[] = new byte[16384];
Arbritarty. Choose any number you want. Small probably isn't good though.
Do I need to pass the length of my file here? The
above equals 16 kb but the file in this example is
    28.5
Pass it where? Just guessing but I thing the length of the data (whether that is the file length or not) is needed.
4.) os.write(b,0,numBytes); - what does the zero mean
here? b is the new byte and numBytes equals the
number of bytes read? Is this correct? The b is a byte array. Zero is the index in the byte array where it needs to start.
    is = rs.getBinaryStream(2);It generally isn't a good idea to extract fields from a result set out of order (you are skipping 1);
System.out.println("os" + os); This is pretty pointless. All you are doing is printing the hash of the reference. You can't print what is in there but you can print the byte buffer as hex if you want to see that.
numBytes17What makes you think that you actually even have the word doc in the database rather than just the name of the file?
What makes you think that the field that you are extracting is the blob field rather than just a name field? In other words you expect that field two is the blob field - how do you know that field 3 is not the blob field (you didn't post the query string.)

  • Help please - occasional shut-down after sleep & kernel panic

    Hi all.
I have an intermittent problem here with an iMac 24in 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo model. This iMac was bought refurbished from the Apple store about 6 weeks ago.
About once a week, after putting the iMac to sleep, I come back to it later to find it has shut down. The only way to restart is to unplug from the wall and then plug in and switch on as normal.
This has happened on three occasions in the last couple of weeks, and by looking in System/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports I found what looks like a record of a kernel panic:
Interval Since Last Panic Report: 212782 sec
    Panics Since Last Report: 1

Since this last one I have reset the PRAM/NVRAM and updated to OS X 10.6.2. Is this likely to help or is there a more fundamental problem here?
Thanks for any help on this.

    HI,
    "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement-"
First, try resetting the SMC. (System Management Controller)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
Considering this iMac is well within the one year limited warranty, I'd take it back if resetting the SMC does not work. You should not have to trouble shoot kernel panics whether it's refurbished or not but read here for help to resolve kernel panics... something might help.
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
If you have installed any 3rd party software / hardware, uninstall and try using the iMac to see if it's stable.

    HI,
Go here for help to Resolving Kernel Panics
To eject the disc, try starting up while holding down the mouse. If that doesn't help, startup while holding down the Eject key ⏏
Try starting up while holding down the Option key which should prompt the Startup Manager window. Select MacintosHD 10.x.x

  • Help-think i have a kernel panic

I need help, every couple of months my computer goes nuts and crashes either when i start up or when using the internet or entourage mail. Usual starts with colored little dots on the screen and then the screen goes grey and the restart message shows, sometimes a red bar appears on the top of the screen. I think its a kernel panic?
Anyway, I have had it checked out, and the repair person swears my computer is fine, and must be a plug connected causing this issue. I have unplugged and plugged in many scenarios and seems to happen in all of them. I have even replaced my ethernet cord. Does not matter. I dont know if this a random fluke, but my computer keeps asking me to update airport for the past couple months and i dont have an airport-could be random. Can anyone help me??

  • HELP!  New RAID causes Kernel Panics

Okay, I am pretty sure I did something stupid here, but I desparately need some help for the gurus.
I got the following to setup a RAID:
    Rosewell R2 RAID/dual disk enclosure
    2 WD Caviar 750 drives
    I have:
    Tempo SATA Express 34
MBP 2.33 GHz 2GB running Leopard
    Here is what happened:
I put it all together and the MBP recognized each drive.
I went into the Dis Utility to use the RAID setup.
    Set it to
Volume Format - Mac OS Extended (journaled)
RAID Type - Mirrored RAID Set
I dragged the two drives into the list and clicked "Create"
    Then all heck broke loose.
I got a Kernel Panic as the grey curtain dropped.
I have tested the Express card separately with another eSATA and it works fine.
I have tested 1 of the two 750 drives in a different enclosure and I get the Kernal Panic. I still need to check the other drive and load a known good drive into the enclosure to test it, but I don't want to kill a good drive.
So I assume I did something really really stupid.... I usually read much more about these types of things before setting them up but I am traveling and brought this with me to work on as I traveled. Unfortunately, I have had somewhat limited access to the internet and been unable to find any discussions of a similar situation occurring.
PLEASE HELP or at least come up with some good explanations.
    Thanks

I'm not familiar with RAID setups all that much (the only RAIDs I've ever set up have been my Drobo's, and those were zero-config), so excuse me if any of my questions or suggestions seem dumb.
Have you tried reformatting the drives individually then set the RAID up again (reformat in APM just to be safe)?
Instead of setting up the RAID in a normal session of OSX, how about booting into your install discs and do it from Disk Utility? (although you said you were traveling, so I don't know if you'd have those on hand - maybe a retail copy of Leopard?)
When I have drive problems, I usually follow this pattern:
    1) Reformat and try again. If that fails, then
    2) Reformat, this time writing the drive over with zeros (an option in Disk Utility, which I'm sure you're aware of). If that fails, then
    3) Try doing the setup in a lower level setting (i.e. single user mode, safe mode, from the install discs, etc.), as it might be something in your setting that might be messing it up.
I'd also try the requisite stuff for system troubleshooting as well - run a Disk Repair and Permission Repair on your boot drive, and clean out caches and whatnot (Onyx is a good utility for this - http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html).

  • Help! G3 freaking out/kernel panic/memory problems

    Hi All,
I put some pc 133 512 mb memory in my G3 [which is actually pc 100, but supposedly should work fine] and then it kernel paniced.
Now it mostly seems to recognize memory in the slot closest to the screen. But only 64 and 32 mb sticks.
Plus, it only boots to OS9 which is on a seperate partition to OSX which is where it is supposed to go, even after setting OSX as the startup.
It also always wants the time adjusted- perhaps the battery is flat- I put it all aside for a month after it happened.
Could the 512 MB pc 133 have fried something? It seems very fragile.
Safe start just keeps rebooting, and X on startup is ignored and os 9 starts.
    HELP!!!
    Any ideas gratefully received,
    Wumpsdad

    Hey annexit,
Yes I get a lot of donated computers so I have probably 80 or so sticks of RAM around here mostly PC 100 and 133 out of both PCs and Macs. I'm constantly sorting through them and marking them: "Works w/ iMac G3, Kernal panic in iMac G4, Works in tower G4 Sawtooth, not recognized...etc."
..old G3 iMac 500 Mhz with one 128 and one 256 PC133 (probably scammed from a G4 tower when I upgraded that),
Was planning to replace the 128 with a 512 PC100 - I saw the post from spudnuty
    If you look here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/G3450MHz_500MHz_600MHz700MHz
OWC sells a mix of PC 100 and 133 for that machine. They are very good at taking it back if it doesn't work.
Is your G4 Tower still on your net?
running panther, safari crashing and I can't print to the attached printer from the intel laptops wirelessly..
Hmm that should work. I use a MDD G4 Tower as my workhorse and am able to print to it no problem. It's running Leopard now however but I don't remember a problem when it was running Tiger.
Running Panther could be your problem. I was lucky when I bought an iMac G4 for $50 (bad hard drive) in the bottom of the box was a complete set of Tiger CD installers (rare).

  • Will the USB debug kit help me with the USB kernel panic?

    Hi.
Some time ago I posted a question regarding USB trouble and got the answer that I have a 'kernel panic' (Thanks for that!). I did not do anything about it, I just did not use Memory Sticks etc. Now I want to try and solve the problem, because I hate it when things does not work.
I searched for 'kernel panic' to learn more, but I must admit that I did not understand much of it
Apple has something called 'mac OSX USB debug kit'. Can that solve the problem? Is it safe to run?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Regards, Littaol
iMac G4 Flat screen   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hello again Littaol,
After a brief read of this page, I would not start messing with developer tools, scripts, programs and "kits", before having explored every other "human" solutions.
Firstly, I would simply try again to use my Memory Sticks.
Perhaps this model was not yet handled properly, but now causes no problem after you updated Mac OS X or after you installed a Security Update.
Secondly, do you have other problems with your USB ports?
Keyboard, mouse, printer, etc, all is going well?
    Kernel Panics:
Yes, they are caused by a problem, not always but often a hardware problem.
Sometimes though, they come for "no reason" and never show up again.
However, they have almost completely disappeared now from our Mac OS X users' lives, or?
If they occur only one or two times a year, there's nothing to worry about.
    Let us know.

  • Help! New MacBook getting Kernel Panics!

    Hi,
After many years using PC's I finally decided to take the venture into a Mac. I love(d) it.
But, just three-weeks in, my laptop has crashed via a Kernel Panic (or, "The Grey Screen Of Death") THREE TIMES now. I'm getting really, really concerned - and unimpressed.
I don't treat my computers badly, I'm overly safe when it comes to unsafe websites, downloads and programs, etc, so I don't understand why this is happening - and if it is a hard drive issue then I'll be even more worried because this computer is brand new... and wasn't cheap either.
    I run:
    Mac OS X, version 10.6.6
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
I do, however, get the sense that the issue might have something to do with Safari. My Safari often shuts down and closes because of an "unexpected error" more than a few times every couple of days - and, so far, whenever the computer has completely crashed with the Kernel error it's while I'm using Safari (the first time it happened I was closing a tab, the second time it was when I went to switch tabs, and the third time it happened was while a website loaded). Do you think Safari has anything to do with it?
If you need the logs, here they are (but forgive me for the length that's about to follow). I will be eternally grateful to anyone who might be able to give me some form of answer. I'm really anxious about it, and I'm worried I'm going to have to go through the hassle of sending the computer back to get fixed/replaced or something. For one, I can't afford to do it right now and, importantly, I edit and film videos, and I have a wedding to film in the next couple of weeks therefore I will NEED to be able to use my computer free of any troubles.
Many, many thanks in advance for ANY kind of help.

I am having a similar problem with kernal panics on a new MBP--I crash about 2 weeks -- usually in safari on pages that use flash. And I did add RAM myself --about two months ago.
If the RAM is not set properly could this be the cause of my kpe's? Or would the crashes mean the RAM is bad? The error log mentions (AppleIntelHDGraphics): could it be the graphics card?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Re-Occurring Blue Screen~Dump files included~Please Help~Unable to verify timestamp for ntkrnlpa.exe

    Hello,
Starting yesterday I started getting the BSOD. I have uploaded my dump files to this dropbox account:
    www.dropbox.com/sh/w3ryago8pfcw2y2/AAAR5i6Crx5q-p--xdESJjnMa
There are lots of them as my PC crashed many times.
I attempted to analyze them with windbg but all I can see is:
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for ntkrnlpa.exe
Also I ran sfc /scannow and it found no integrity violations.
After the first BSOD I was barely able to get Windows to load without another immediate crash. I couldn't boot my PC last night but today seems okay so far. CPU temp was fine, actually quite cool as I had my window open right by the PC with the side off
the case and it was cold last night. Today, so far, seems to be running okay...so far anyways..
Windows update recently installed a driver for my on-board video card (Nvidia GeForce 6150n) on the 18th I think as I started using a 2nd monitor using the on-board card in addition to my PCI Express Ati Radeon HD. To use the second screen, I switched
the primary video in CMOS to on-board instead of PCI-E 16x so the on-board Nvidia card would be enabled.
I also installed brand new ram (4gb DDR2) about a month ago
and a new power supply 2 months ago. The power supply is not "exactly" the same voltage as the one that was in there but it's dang close. But I don't have any power leeching components.
Other than that nothing new has happened. After I got the crash, I tried to enter CMOS yesterday and it glitched out on me twice. I hope it's not my motherboard..
I am willing to do a system re-format as I am running Windows 7 32bit on a 64bit AMD so I wouldn't mind having 64 bit Windows anyways but I'd like to know what the problem is before I do this. Thank you.

    Hi,
All of the attached DMP files are of the
    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124) bug check.
A fatal hardware error has occurred. This fatal error displays data from the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).
If we run an !errrec on the 2nd parameter of the bug check (address of the WER structure) we get the following:
    BugCheck 124, {0, 867d2024, b2000010, 10c0f}
    ===============================================================================
    Section 2 : x86/x64 MCA
    Descriptor @ 867d2134
    Section @ 867d22bc
    Offset : 664
    Length : 264
    Flags : 0x00000000
    Severity : Fatal
    Error : BUSLG_OBS_ERR_*_NOTIMEOUT_ERR (Proc 0 Bank 4)
    Status : 0xb200001000010c0f
This is a pretty complicated error compared to other possibilities it could have been, as it implies you have a hardware fault somewhere along the bus (not very definitive on its own).
In our case however, we can go a bit deeper with this one:
    0: kd> .formats 0xb200001000010c0f
    Evaluate expression:
    Hex: b2000010`00010c0f
    Decimal: -5620492266238833649
    Octal: 1310000001000000206017
    Binary: 10110010 00000000 00000000 00010000 00000000 00000001 00001100 00001111

    Time: ***** Invalid FILETIME
    Float: low 9.61613e-041 high -7.45059e-009
    Double: -7.41853e-068
Now that we have this info, we'd refer to the AMD manual:
    63 VAL Valid
    62 OVER Status Register Overflow
    61 UC Uncorrected Error
    60 EN Error Condition Enabled
    59 MISCV Miscellaneous-Error Register Valid
    58 ADDRV Error-Address Register Valid
    57 PCC Processor-Context Corrupt
    56–32 Other Information
    31–16 Model-Specific Error Code
    15–0 MCA Error Code
In our specific case, bit 63 of the status code is set, so it is valid. Bit 62 of the status code is
unset, therefore there's no overflow. Bit 61 implies an uncorrected error has occurred, and Bit 60 implies an error condition was enabled. Last but not least, Bit 57 is
set and implies a corrupted processor context.
If we take a look at the last 15 bits of the binary:
    Binary: [trimming] 00001100 00001111
In our case, the MSB in binary (00001100 ), implies a bus error occurred (as I mentioned above). We need to further decode the bits to understand more:
    [0000]1100 00001111
    0000 = 1PPT RRRR IILL.
    PP = Participation Processor, T = Timeout,
    R = Memory Transaction Type, I = Memory and/or I/O, and finally
    L = Cache Level.
With this said, it appears we actually have a faulty motherboard as the processor seems fine, etc. The only other thing I see possible is bad RAM, which you can figure out whether or not is the case by running no less than ~8 passes of Memtest:
    Memtest86+:
    Download Memtest86+ here:
    http://www.memtest.org/
    Which should I download?
You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary
files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).
Do note that some older generation motherboards do not support USB-based booting, therefore your only option is CD (or Floppy if you really wanted to).
    How Memtest works:
Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.
The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps for 90 minutes before checking to see if bits have changed (perhaps because
of refresh problems). This is repeated with all ones for a total time of 3 hours per pass.
Many chipsets can report RAM speeds and timings via SPD (Serial Presence Detect) or EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles), and some even support changing the expected memory speed. If the expected memory speed is overclocked, Memtest86 can test that memory performance
is error-free with these faster settings.
Some hardware is able to report the "PAT status" (PAT: enabled or PAT: disabled). This is a reference to Intel Performance acceleration technology; there may be BIOS settings which affect this aspect of memory timing.
This information, if available to the program, can be displayed via a menu option.
Any other questions, they can most likely be answered by reading this great guide here:
