Ready to watch in 25 minutes

When I rent HD movies on Apple TV, it is often taking 25 minutes before they are ready to watch. Can this be right when I am using 50mb broadband and a wired connection?
All other devices on the network are fine.

Speedtest.net shows I am getting about 47mb down.
The thing I don't understand is that I can download HD video to my Mac really fast on the same broadband connection, it is just slow on the Apple TV

I recently purchased a season pass for a TV show on my apple tv I downloaded the first episode and when I went to watch it it started to download again and is now frozen at "ready to watch in 44 minutes"????? I have had it do the reloading process on an entire season of another show (very frustrating) but have never had it freeze up like this? any help out there?

There is no accessible storage so that is why it needs to reload. The time it take is dependent on your network. Not sure why it is freezing this time but you may want to try a reboot (hold the menu and down arrow for a few seconds until the light starts flashing and then release)

  • I rented a movie on Apple TV and it started to load then froze, now I get one of two errors "error loading content" or "movie will be ready to watch in 1 minute"... after trying repeatedly ,it still won't play. The movie rental is going to expire.

i've tried this repeatedly for the past 6 hours. Rebooted, etc. I can stream movies from netflix and hulu but the movie i rented won't play. The timer is ticking becuase it started then froze but now it won't load.

force quit app.  double click home button and slide app up and off page

  • Ready to play in 14 minutes. Is this normal?

Im concerned about my dcownload speed.  For example, to download a 45 minute hd show, my Atv says ready to play in 14 minutes. Than the estimated time drops throughout the download and ends up taking 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Is this normal?  My download speed is between 4 and 5 mbs. I've already tried directly connecting to my router.   Thanks you.

Thanks for answering!  Why, then, am I able to start watching an hd show within a minute into the download on my Mac?  It is an iMac intel core duo 2.0 with 2 gigs of memory. I'm thinking because it has better hardware than the apple tv?
If that's the case it sounds as though AppleTV2 should be able to do the same.
If we knew the size of a particular stream/download we could do a rough calculation of how long it should take for a given steady internet speed.
I can't rent TV Shows in iTunes or on AppleTV2 in UK, so can't really give you a guide except for movie performance.
With the same internet connection I'd expect the 2 to behave similarly (presumably computer or other user was not using internet bandwidth when you were using AppleTV directly?).
Apple's servers sometimes get bogged down, and some ISPs speeds really to vary significantly despite your headline connection speed - also worth checking your ISP doesn't slow/throttle your connection speeds at certain times or after a certain amount of content has downloaded.

  • 2.0.1 Movie Download Ready To Watch Time Longer?

Sorry if this thread already exists but I want to specifically focus on the 2.0.1 upgrade wrt this.
So last night I did the 2.0.1 upgrade and we rented a movie.
The download speed did not seem any slower as a rough guess it still took about a minute or two for 2% loaded. However where as with 2.0 sfw it would say "Movie Ready To Watch" after about 2% loaded, the 2.0.1 sfw waited much longer (roughly 20 minutes and 50% - rough figures) before it gave the ready message.
I realize Apple doesn't want users to start watching too early and cause a freeze but I had no freezing problems previously even when starting with 2% loaded with the 2.0 sfw.
Now I have to wait longer - a big step backward in my opinion.
I also tried to play prior to the ready message and it wouldn't allow it.
Do others see this same behavior?
(PS In order to prove it is the 2.0.1 update I should have rented a movie with 2.0 installed - but didn't want to risk losing it to the upgrade and waste $5).

I don't think the movie download experience in terms of time and when it is ready for watching is related to any of the software releases so far. I downloaded 3 HD and 1 SD movie after the upgrade to 2.0.1 and my movies were ready for watching in around 30-45sec. I let it download completely before starting to watch the movie though. My ATV is connected via G class wireless thru a Comcast cable modem where I get download speeds of 12mbps.

  • Ready to watch in 2 days!!!

Well I am still struggling with download times post update. I just clicked on X2 to rent the HD version and all I get is a flashing "ready to watch in 2 days"
My internet is tested at 18mbps. My wireless modem is secure and running well.
Any other suggestions on how I can improve performance?
Funny, this was never an issue before the firmware upgrade.
I am slowly losing my patience with ATV.

I'm only on a 1Mbps connection and it takes 10-12 hours to download a HD movie.
I generally decide what I want to watch the night before and just order the rental to view the next day, and I'm happy with this and not having to walk to Blockbuster, though I could get there on foot and back in 20 mins.
If I had a faster connection though I'd be dissapointed too with long delays before watching.
These are relevant Apple support links with times to start viewing:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1577?viewlocale=en_US
Which estimates 50-72 mins to download a 3-4.5GB HD movie on a 5Mbps connection - ie faster than real time so with a bit of buffering it should be ready to watch after a few minutes at most.
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html
    Suggests times to start:
6 Mbps: less than 1 minute
    2 Mbps: about 2 hours
    768 Kbps: about 8 hours
... but people do not seem to be achieving these - again dissapointing, but if they want this to succeed as an on demand service, and people have the appropriate network connection speeds to achieve that within a minute or so, they have to ensure their servers are up to the task or perhaps offer you a cancel purchase option if it's going to take ages.
    Send some feedback to:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
Remember though it is not necessarily Apple's fault unless:
    - you have a guaranteed speed, which is not affected by contention, bandwidth throttling by the ISP, or pehaps other users in the house using the connection simultaneously.
If you have a guaranteed speed immune form these other aspects then it must be Apple's servers or possibly an intremediate connection to them beyond your ISP that can't keep up.
As the others have said new movies might be subject to high numbers of simultaneous downloads but Apple ought to balance loads at the servers to allow for such situations in the same way Blockbuster may have dozens of copies of a new release available but only a few of an older movie.

  • How do I know when movie is downloaded in full and ready to watch on Apple TV 3rd Gen?

I've got a brand new Apple TV  Model: MD199C/A.  Works great, but today I bought an ITunes movie and can't figure out if it is downloaded yet…
Apple TV immediately gave me the option to play the purchase, but I am reluctant because of past experience where I started a purchased movie and it stopped after playing for few minutes because it wasn't completely downloaded. It also started the clock ticking giving me only 48 hrs (I'm in Canada) to complete download and resume watching.
This ruined the night we had planned to watch a movie so I would love a solution where I can be sure the movie is completely downloaded and ready to watch.
    Thanks.

If you want to see what your current connection is use speedtest.net
1080P content will need at least 8mbps for instant playback
Also make sure you have DNS set to auto (settings - general - network)
If you are on wifi try ethernet
Your other option would be to download to your computer and use home sharing to stream to Apple TV.

Depending upon what country that you are in (films can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the film from your iPad and redownload it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app (or the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes).
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download films, or if you have problems with the re-downloaded version, then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that film and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work (it's been taking some people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • HT1551 This thing is horrible. I rented a movie to watch later. Confirmed the movie was downloaded (available to watch) and when I hit "play" it tells me it will be ready to watch in 19-hours! What's up?

The ATV has no storage to speak of, so all content is streaming.
If the user desires to download first and play later, do so via iTunes on the computer.

  • MY BT/My Extras/ BT Sport; You are ready to watch...

as it says you are ready to watch bt sport  does that mean that sport is fully set

Sorry a bit of background. I cannot check as I ordered an upgrade from option 3/TV unlimited to unlimited infinity 1 and TV unlimited extra. On my order (through mybt) there is no mention of BT sport (the help notes on order says this is normal and to check your confirmation email - I did not get one apparently there was an issue ( I emailed back when I did not receive one) so they are sending me a paper one and will email my a copy when it comes back on their system.
I could wait but I am impatient and I don't know if the letter will arrive before the 1st August.

  • I rented a movie on itunes and it says that it is ready to watch but it will not play

I rented a movie on itunes and a message popped up that said it was ready to watch. When I click on the movie it freezes and does not move forward. What is the problem? I have a macbook pro

Have you tried signing out and then signing back into your account on the iPad? Settings>Store>Apple ID>Sign Out. Restart the iPad and then sign in to your account again and then see if the movie will sync.
Another thing that you can try is transfer purchases from your iPad to the iTunes library and then try to sync.
I realize that you want to sync a movie from iTunes on your computer to the iPad, but I am just trying to think of a way to "reset" your iTunes account and get everything back in order again.
You tried restarting the iPad and resetting it as well? Quitting iTunes, restart your computer and then try again?
One other thing that is really a long shot but you can try it - and it works for third party apps that are crashing - download an app - any free app - that is supposed to reset some security issue in your iTunes account and maybe that would work in this case.

  • P2015 Ready Light flashes 4.5 minutes

I wrote a file printing program using CodeGear (previously Borland) Delphi that prints Delphi source code files on both sides of half sheets (5.5 x 8.5 ); I manually refeed the pages for printing on the reverse.  The program bypasses the Windows printer canvas by using Windows API printer functions to send PCL 5 escape-sequences directly to a HP P2015dn printer connected to the USB port using the PCL 5e driver (The same results are obtained using the PCL 6 driver).  The program changes the font to 16.67 char/in, changes the lines/in, changes the margins, and repositions the cursor several times.
The program performs exactly as planned but after the last page is printed, the printer reset command is sent, and the printer is closed, the printer's Ready Light will continuously flash for 4 minutes and 40 seconds then turn steady-on as is normal.  But even while the Ready Light is flashing (implying that the printer is receiving data), the above program can be run again and it will immediately print whatever file is requested.
Does anyone have any idea why the Ready Light flashes for 4 minutes and 40 seconds after the print-job is complete?

  • AppleTV "Ready To Play in 47 minutes"

Well the figure varies between that and over one hour.
Once upon a time, HD movies would play instantly and the whole movie would have been downloaded in about 30 minutes.
(It now says 1 hour 24 mins)
    So who is to blame?
    Apple or BT?
Has BT taken on too many new Inifinty customers for their infratructure to handle? Problems with equipment and engineers who dont know what they are doing?
It is now 1 hour 19 minutes
The film is only 1:37:45 long
The AppleTV is linked to the HH5 using the apple provided ethernet cable.
    Should I just give up?
