Real difference in 3rd and 4th generation itouch

Hi I was thinking of upgrading from 3rd generation itouch to 4th generation. Is it worth it. Is there significant differences? They seem the same.

Hey,
The following website compares the two models
http://www.thelifedigital.com/ipod-touch-3rd-generation-vs-ipod-touch-4th-genera tion-comparison/
As to whether you should upgrade only you can decide. As I see it the main deciding factor would be the cameras - want to take photos, shoot video or do FaceTime? Then go for the upgrade. Not really bothered? Stick with the perfectly good 3rd gen.
Hope that helps.

  • Can I use a 3rd and 4th generation shuffle cable to charge and sync a 2nd generation shuffle?

I have a 2nd generation ipod shuffle that belongs to my sister-in-law, but she cannot find the cable.  I was wondering if I purchased a cable, intended for 3rd or 4th generation shuffles, would it still work?

No.  It fits, but the connector is different.  This is the official replacement part
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA694G/A/apple-ipod-shuffle-dock
There are also third-party replacements that cost less.  Some have a mini-dock, some just have the plug, and some don't even have a cable between the plug for the headphones jack and the USB plug.  Just read the product description to make sure it is for the 2nd gen shuffle.

  • Do Ipod touch 3rd and 4th generations come with 16 GB

    Hi,
I'm confused.  We bought our daughter an Ipod Touch 4G for Christmas and the product listing said 16 GB. Now we are looking to puchase a used Ipod Touch 3G 16 GB for her little brother to play games and listen to music.  However, in my research I'm finding that Apple does not list either of these generations (3rd OR 4th) as coming with 16 GB, only 32 GB or 64 GB.  Can anyone clear this up for me as I see tons of 3G/16 GB listings on Ebay and I'm wondering if they are valid or are they actually 2G.  I know there is a difference in model no. but what are the true differences?   Also, will a 3G be sufficient for the game-playing or do most of the new games require a higher IOS than the 3G can run?  (No matter how much $ we save by buying an earlier generation, it will be money wasted if it's not useful!!)  Thanks.

Apple did not release a 16GB 3rd-generation iPod touch, only 32GB and 64GB models, so any such claims are in error. You can learn how to differentiate the different models, and see the capacities they come/came in, here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
As to whether to purchase a 3rd-gen unit, I'd advise against it. It can't run the current version of iOS, iOS 6, and hence will see fewer and fewer apps available for it. Get at least a 4th-gen model.
    Regards.

  • What is the difference in 2nd and 4th generation?

What is the difference in a 2nd generation iPod touch and a 4th generation? I want to know if it's really worth upgrading.

Definitely worth it. The iPod touch 4th gen has a front facing camera, which means it has FaceTime installed. FaceTime is an app that allows you to video call anyone else with FaceTime. Also, iOS 5, the latest operating system which brings features like iCloud and text messaging to the iPod touch, cannot be downloaded on the 2nd gen. So basically, you won't be able to update a 2nd gen anymore, and you won't be able to FaceTime. There are other perks, let me know if you would like to know more. But in my opinion, iOS 5 is reason enough to upgrade.

  • Differences between 3rd generation and 4th generation models?

I read an online review that stated the only difference is that the 4th generation model has a camera and the 3rd generation model does not. Can anyone confirm this?

    Stop reading that review.
Front facing camera 960x720 (.7 megapixel)
    Rear facing camera 640x480
    Video recording
Faster CPU (much snapper than my iPod Touch)
    Much MUCH better display
    Microphone
Slightly better speaker output (actually has its own hole in case instead of fighting to come out the doc connector.

i hope someone gets this who can help me. i don't find anything helpful in the help section of icloud. i'm using my 4th generation itouch for about 3 weeks with the ical. but today when i tried to edit an event or add an event a window would pop up and say "event can't be saved" or "no calendar chosen" or something like "this event doesn't belong with this calendar" and stuff like that.
can you please help me fix this?

You could repartition your drive to have a different OS X with the older iTunes there, and the newer iTunes on the existing partition. Back up everything beforehand. See Kappy's advice in this thread. Partitioning my Hard Drive

  • 4th generation itouch heating up, keeps crashing and worse after screen cracked

My 4th generation itouch has been heating up a lot, crashing and the battery dies really fast and I just got it in November. Unfortunetly, I dropped it today and it cracked at the bottom and a crack through the screen but, now my itouch keeps crashing more. Is there any way that Apple can replace my itouch for free so that way my itouch doesn't crash or heat up anymore and I dont have to look at a cracked screen?

Dropping an ipod is not covered by your warranty: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/#warranty5
Apple can repair your device, but you'll have to pay for it, see the pricing here: Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing

  • Cannot update 4.3.3 software to 4th generation iTouch

I was able to update the software on my 3rd generation iTouch but not on the 4th generation itouch (we have two iTouchs).  Tried turning off the security and virus protection - did not work, still get the error 3259 during "processing file".  Any ideas what to do?

Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes.

  • How can i get a refund of my 4th generation itouch that is broken, how can i get a refund of my 4th generation itouch that is broken

hi people!! i bought my 4th generation itouch in last year and i cracked my itouch screen. Because i cracked my screen, i just wanted to fix my screen as soon as possible. But, my mom accidently threw the Itouch Apple case and some people say that i cant get fixed or refund. SO, i'm asking a questions about getting fixed of itouch screen.
        1. how much does it costs?

Sorry but you can never get a refund unless you bought it under 14 days ago.
You can get a replacement product or a repair for free if it broke not through your own fault if it is still under warranty. However...
a cracked screen is probably not caused by somethng which is covered under warranty. Apple will replace it with a refurbished model for the price listed here: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
    Hopefully this will help you

She would need her own Apple ID, though not an iTunes Store account per se. This article will probably be of help:
