Real Digital Zoom App on 3Gs?

I've been trying out some of the Free camera apps looking for one with a decent digital zoom. Believe me I know digital zoom is not the same or nearly at good as real optical zoom, but we're stuck with what the iPhone hardware gives us.
The (free) apps I've tried so far just crop the image which to me is cheating and lame. Is there an app out there that doesn't crop and call it "zoom" feature? Paid or free, but free is of course preferred.

So, when you offer help to someone, telling him how something you use works, and his response is to ask you if your "actually" use it (implying that you were fabricating), you wouldn't consider that rude? Or is it not rude only when you are the one posing that question?
For the sake of dealing with the nonsensical misinformation in your post that might confuse others reading it, I will clarify this issue.
First, you seem to have no concept of what "zooming" means. To say "some zoom without resizing" makes no sense at all. When these apps zoom, the image you see is magnified and continues to fill the screen. If they were "cropping without resizing", there would be no magnification and you would just get a blank area around the un-cropped part of the picture.
That is exactly how Camera Genius, and Camera Zoom work, when I "actually" use them. When viewing the real time image, sliding the zoom slider magnifies the image while still filling the iPhone screen. The overflow portion not seen is cropped and not saved when storing the picture. This is why digital zooming is a gimmick - you actually lose pixels and resolution.
This also ties into the definition of image "size" vs. enlargement, which you don't use consistently or don't understand at all. The "size" of an image as it appears on a given screen is relative to how it's enlarged and displayed. The technical definition is the number and height/width ratio of pixels. When you digitally zoom, there are fewer resulting pixels and actual size is reduced.
Any app that claims tp maintain the same number of pixels after digital zooming is either saving the original un-zoomed image or interpolating phony pixels that don't represent real image information.

There are apps in the AppStore that do this for still pictures, but its a digital zoom meaning all it does it zoom/crop the image.
The only way to zoom the video is to move closer to the subject.
A proper zoom is a hardware feature, not software.

Excel has a 'text to numbers' function, I would use that.

After updating to iOS 5, I can't seem to find my digital zoom on my iPhone 4.

Hi, I just recently updated my iPhone 4 16 GB GSM to the newest operating system - iOS 5. The only problem I have encountered is when i'm in camera mode (rear-facing camera) and I tap the screen once to try and zoom in, the digital zoom bar doesn't show up. Is there some kind of place in the settings where I can turn this feature back on again? I have tried restarting my phone also, and just can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance.

Quality of digital zoom in N-82

Currently I use N-93i with optical zoom. Can anyone say how good is the quality of digital zoom especially when shooting videos.
I use my N-93i for lot of video shooting and the feedback on the topic help me take a decision. Conversely should I wait for N-96

Thanks for the input. The very reason I am still holding on to N-93i is because of its optical zoom. I am aware of a Samsung with 3X optical zoom. Dont want to change brand for obvious reasons and am looking beyond 3x honestly.Seems nothing from Nokia is in the offing.
Again what is disturbing is N-96 is supposed be released with
950 mAH BL-5F, frugal as compared to N-82's 1050 BP-6MT given the fact N-96 hosts a DVB-H a heavy battery drainer.

We have a Canon SX40Hs and cannot activate the digital zoom function. I have tried changing the mode from Auto to "P" to "Tv" etc and the dig zoom function is greyed out and not accessible. Any help?

Actually, this is a friend's camera, but yes, I went to the menu and when I got to the digital zoom option, it is greyed out (not accessible). That is the problem. I shoot in the EOS line so figured maybe there was a custom function somewhere that was causing the problem, but Power shot line apparentley doesn't have custom functions. Thought maybe digital zoom is only availabel in certain modes (pernaps not available in "green square"), but changing mode didn't seem to make it accessible either. I am just not familiar with the powershot cameras so ... any other suggestions?

Latest update doesn't allow disney digital book apps to open. how do I fix it?

I havea couple of Disney digital books (apps for ipad). I have loaded the latest update to the ipad and now they won't open. I have deleted them from my ipad and reinstalled them by syncing with my itunes, but still to now avail. I have also tried to open the app in the app store from my ipad and it still won't open. Is this a bug in the update? Is there anything I can do? or have I just lost my money on purchasing the app? Thanks

DPS Tools are buiilt in InDesign CS6 - Folio Overlays and Folio Builder. The Alcatel Speedtouch 585 proabably has version 5 firmware on there. I see form your post you know what the problem is.
This can be the problem.
Earlier modes in the 500 series had Firmware versions 3 and 4 which meant you could telnet into them form the Terminal Application and Unbind SIP from port 5060.
This is what is causing the problem.
The symptoms are a starnge pattern of succss and failure.
A small group you can contact all the time
An equally small group of now and then success
And a large group of Buddies that you can never get AV chats with.
ibosie who posts here says he has been in caontact with Alcatel and that they are working on a Firmware update to get round this.
At this stage another modem would be the way to go. (the 510 and the 580 can be Unbound)

T5i 3X to 10X digital zoom

I recently purchased the Rebel T4i. In reviewing the specs for the T5i, I notice that it is going to have the 3X to 10X digital zoom that the T4i does not. As I am new to the dslr industry, can you explain to me exactly what this means? Should I exchange the T4i for the T5i? Thank you.

Personally, I'd turn off the digital zoom. Digital zoom is no different than opening up a photo in photoshop (or any photo software) and cropping down to a small picture (thus "magnifying" your image). You're just tossing out all those other pixels. All that money that you spent on have a bigger sensor with an SLR gets tossed out. If you want more zoom, buy a longer lens. Swapping out the proper lens for the job is half the point of an SLR.
10X digital zoom is rediculous. The quality will be crap. They do it because the Rebel cameras are marketed to get people to upgrade from point and shoot cameras, which use that silly multiplication factor. And the "X factor" for SLR lenses is small - because it's not applicable. All it is, is the longest focal length divided by the shortest. So the 18 - 55 that may have come with your camera is a 3X. A 600mm prime is zero X, but it's going to get me a lot closer than any point and shoot. But when someone goes into best buy and sees a $300 point and shoot with 15X and askes the salesman what the X factor on the more expensive T4i is, we have a problem. Hence them putting this junk on the Rebel line. Higher end SLR cameras have no digital zoom, because the people that use them realize it's marketing hype.
Edit: Sorry, I never do any video on my SLRs so I don't think from that perspective. I see the use of (limited) digital zoom when using video. Though I'd imagine at 10X you're still degrading image quality.

Now for the storage and why getting the "largest" iPad you can afford. 16GB is not much, especially when it comes to photos and video. Assuming you have a relatively modern camera, each photo will likely be a minimum of 5 MB. Extrapolate that and 5,000 Photos is already significantly more storage than 16GB, not counting iOS, any apps and other data.

Voice memos not stored, deleted at each app restart - 3GS iOS 4.0

The built-in dictaphone app (Voice Memos) does not store recorded memos, and deletes them at every relaunch
To simulate the problem:
1. Launch dictaphone app
2. record a note
3. switch back to springboard
4. double click home button to start task manager
5. Hold dictaphone icon and kill it by pressing "minus" symbol
6. Relaunch dictaphone
7. The recorded memo is gone

Using PhoneDisk I've managed to establish that it appears as if Voice Memos is recording as mov files and then converting to m4a files. Deleting a recording removes the m4a file, but not the mov file. I can delete the mov files with PhoneDisk with no adverse effects. This behaviour does not occur on the iPhone 4: only m4a files appear in the folder. I can only assume this is a bug that will not be fixed so I will stop using this Apple app and go to a third party - which is a shame.

Fios digital voice app no longer working

I have the digital voice service on my home phone, and the android app always worked fine. I have the app installed on a phone and a tablet, and was able to get voice mails, see the call log, etc. .
Starting a few days ago the app would say that I do not have digital voice.I reinstalled the app on my phone, same message. I tried it on the tablet, again the same message. I went to the web site and confirmed that I still have digital voice.
A possibly related issue is that since I merged a business fios internet account with my home TV account, and ported a number over, I have never been able to make any changes using the web page. Whether phone or TV, I get an error message, and it says to call the business office. This happens when i try to order or change a TV box, and also when I tried to order home monitoring stuff. I have been on hold for hours waiting to talk to a rep, but always have to hangup before a live person answers due to having to leave my desk or office. This error message has been present for more than a year, but I have never been able to talk t someone live to get it resolved. The one or two times I did speak to somone, they transfer me somewhere else.

Anybody had any luck on this issue? I'm obviously not the only one out there that's having the problem. Verizon live chat/phone customer service has been clueless, and I stopped in at a verizon store last night to see if they could help. The rep had never seen the issue before, and was unable to provide any assistance, even stating that he wouldn't even know where to start with a problem such as this. His best suggestion was to try and contact the app developer. Anybody else out there seen any resolution to this or am I stuck actually plugging my home phone back in and having to ignore the 5767583768694 "nonprofit" telemarketer calls I get daily?
