Real Player files (and quicktime)

I need to burn some Real Player (.ram etc) files to DVD (movies). I have tried ffmpegx to convert them but can't seem to get it to work.
Is there a good alternative for Real > Quicktime?
TIA!
G5 DP 2 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   No Haxies; permissions frequently repaired etc

Lots of different methods could be used.
Increase the dimensions of the "source" file to get a larger dimension.
Change screen resolution (800X600 is good).
Since you are capturing just the data viewed on your monitor (and audio) the choices are yours to make.
The quality will not be any worse than the source and I use QuickTime Pro to "export" the high quality capture but it really depends on the source file.
If it is 15fps and you capture at 30 you're really not improving anything and making a huge file.
I mainly use Snapz Pro to record on screen "tutorials" and I save them as QuickTime .mov files. But it could be used when true exports are too complicated or extra software is too expensive.

  • Avi files and Quicktime

    Hello everybody...
so I did a search on the subject and tried everything mentioned, but still came up with no results.
I have some avi files on a CD that I would like to view and then burn onto a DVD as a movie file. I tried to open them with Quicktime 7 to no avail. I downloaded DivX Doctor as well as DivX Fusion Beta, which was recommended in other posts. Still nothing. Do I need to download real player? And if so, will I be able to burn the avi files onto a DVD for viewing on a regular DVD player?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Nicholas

    The format I see is WMV3, 720 x 480
There is your problem. That is a closed Microsoft format. The Mac version of the MS Media Player may let you play them. See http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/Macintosh/osx/default.asp x
However, it only lists WMV7, WMV8, WMV9 and WMVP as supported - no mention of WMV3

  • Can't download real player file from link

I'm new to the mac world and I am trying to download a real player file (.rm) from a link that is on one of my course websites (I've tried Safari and Firefox). When I "right click" and select "Download File" it just downloads the actual html link, not the file. I'm able to download the file on my PC with no problems. Am I just missing something with the mac?

Are you running RealPlayer 11? That includes a downloader that tells you when a file is actually available for download.

  • Problem with m3u files and Quicktime

    Hello:
I have made one update with Quicktime software (version 7.6.9 1680.9). The problem is that Quicktime player reproduces mp3 files but when I try to play m3u files the sound is very bad. It sounds like gargling.
For example: This files play ok:
    http://www.telefonica.net/web2/sevarra/Sarabande.mp3
It plays ok when the previous link is introduced as URL address in Quicktime player, but the corresponding m3u files sounds like gargling
    http://www.telefonica.net/web2/sevarra/list0.m3u
I think there a problem with m3u files and Quicktime.
Tank you very much and best regards.

I have discovered that when the URL is playing (with gargling sound) if I open the A/V controls in QT menus and I move the Jog Shuttle or the Speed level then the sound becomes good.
Yes! Great catch, ttfrank. I can replicate that too.
Interesting ... if (after getting the sound working properly again) you then pause play of the m3u, and start it again, you get the gargling/dalekish sound quality back again.
Bug reporting ... there's a couple of ways you can go about doing this. You can use the QuickTime product feedback form:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/quicktime.html
... but if you want to track progress on the bug, try instead registering as an Apple Developer (for free):
    http://developer.apple.com/programs/register/
... and then you'll be able to submit the bug via the Apple Bug Reporter:
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
In the meantime, there's also a restricted forum available to level 4 and 5 members ("Notable New Technical Issues") where we can report this sort of thing. I'll try to get a post written up on the topic there later today.

  • Real Player Files

How do I burn Real Player Files?
iMac DV SE   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

ffmpegX claims to read Real Audio and Real Video files and convert them to MPEG, H.264, ... etc.

I can't get ffmpegX working myself.

  • I have Real Player Plus and with it you are ment to be able to download videos with it from any site bit the download video icon does not appear despite having everything enabled what's going on?

I have got Real Player Plus and one of the features of it is being able to download any video.
Now to do that you mouse on thevideo and a download icon appears on the top right of the video.
Recently it has stopped working. I have all my Real Player plug-ins enabled and the feature enabled on Real Player Plus to recognise FX 3.6.17 but it doesn't work. Whats going on? I am having to use Internet Explorer to use that feature of Real Player.

Noticed some of the comments about the new Verizon tv guide. I concur with the crowd indicating displeasure with the guide. Lots of wasted space on the left side, top and bottom of the new guide. The original guide presented more channels and more times with each screen display. The original guide was quite useful for me, and functioned perfectly fine. I would like the opportunity to choose between the two guides. Change isn't always a good thing.

  • Real Player files on n958gb

y is it, if i download stuff in RP format, like stuff from youtube, it wont play on my n95 8gb, even tho the phone has mobile realplayer

    Hey fanX,
iTunes will not play Real Player files. The files will need to be converted to a compatible audio format.
+You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes can convert these files to one of these formats.+
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1473
You can try converting to one of the other formats.
The Real Player website may have additional information on converting or exporting to higher quality MP3's.

  • Not able to open Windows Media Player files with Quicktime Pro

    Hi,
I have recently downloaded a couple of videos that I am planning to use in FCP. The file extension of the downloaded videos is .asf and I am able to play them with Windows Media Player. However, to use them in FCP I have to convert them into Quicktime format. I have Quicktime Pro version 7.0.4 and I was told that I should be able to open the files in Quicktime therefore automatically converting them into quicktime files. It's not working and I am completely out of options and ideas.
Please help if you ever had that problem.
    Thanks in advance

As I understand it M$ is providing additional distribution as a sort of "seal of approval."
Don't forget WMV/WMA is a proprietary codec from M$ and involves licensing. In that sense they're providing resources. Apparently the Flip4Mac folks are actually building it themselves though.
Think of it as being in the construction business and you're required to buy the lumber from only one source but you still have to build the house yourself.
I've just got done downloading the newer version and
    I hope for improvements.
It looks like M$ is giving some resources to the
flip4mac creators. Maybe a M$ "plant" all along?

  • How do I convert rmvb (Real Player) files to MPEG?

    Hi,
I have a few .rmvb (Real Player) music video files I'd like to convert to MPEG so that I can watch them on my Apple TV. I've tried ffmpegX and HandBrake both both freeze when importing the rmvb files. Is there not a program that will convert these files?
    Thanks
    -Dean

you might be screwed then.... realplayer files are usually quite hard to re-encode due to the closed nature of the files.

  • How to convert real media files to quicktime for iPod

I want to know how to convert a real media file into a format that is recognizable by my iPod. Do I need to convert it into a Quicktime movie? And if I already have quick time movies on my computer, will they play on my iPod without any need of conversion?
    Thanks

MP4 is the format you need. You will need a third party program to convert it for viewing on your ipod. See this link
    http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123067
There are many freeware programs out there for convertering. Beware of people that will direct you to a site where you have to pay for the program. There are many Spammers on this forum that will try to have you buy a particular program. Do a search for free conversion programs and you will find many.

  • Mov files and quicktime keep freezing computer

Hi all, im new to this. My new digital camera outputs mov movies. When i play mov movies in quicktime, it plays for about 5 seconds then the computer completely freezes. This also happens when i try and play them in other players such as VLC and windows media player. I tried to reinstall quicktime but on installation it freezes the computer towards the end of installation when it does file extension types. Now i have a partially installed quicktime, and still cannot play these movies!! Really look forward to, and appreciate any help, as this has been annoying me for ages now. Many thanks, Andrew

It should also be noted that even opening quicktime without playing a movie freezes the computer also!
    Cheers

  • Flash Player 9 and Quicktime 7.1.6

After installing Flash Player 9, I was unable to view Flash on web sites using Safari 2.0.4. Where the Flash presentation should have been, I saw only the Quicktime logo with a question mark on it. I updated to Quicktime 7.1.6 and restarted without problems, but I still can't view Flash in Safari. Does anyone know what this is and what I can do to view Flash with Flash Player 9?
    Ellen

Go to your System Preferences...Quicktime-->Advance Tab-->Un_check Enable Flash, Then click on MIME Settings-->Click on Miscellaneous-->Un_check Flash media...Click ok...Close out System Prefs...Close you bowsers...Try it...
