Real Player not working properly since upgrade to Snow Leopard

Ok, before I start, I know RealPlayer is not an Apple product, but I am not premium Real content subscriber, and I don't expect to get any support from Real on this matter.
I only use the player to listen to BBC Radio which is vital to me as I live outside the UK.
The problem is that since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, the streaming bit rate won't go above 21kbps which obviously reduces the sound quality. I checked what it was doing in Activity Monitor, (version 11.0) and it is not 64bit. Could this be the cause of the problem?

RealPlayer is a 32-bit application, but that shouldn't be a problem. It should run on Snow Leopard as well as it did on Leopard. It plays BBC Radio at 45Kbps on my Mac. Do you have the latest version (11.1.0)? Check the speed settings in its "Connection" preference.

  • Time Capsule backup not working anymore after upgrade to Snow Leopard

    Hi,
after I upgraded to Snow Leopard I started the backup process with the time capsule. Within several days I tried this about 5 times and the iMac crashed or froze after some time doing the backup - but it never completed.
I then deleted the whole content of the time capsule and started a fresh backup. Now I receive a message after some gigabyte that there was a problem and I should try it again. Again the backup has not finished so far. I tried to reduce the amount of files to backup by excluding folders - no chance. Since the upgrade to snow I was not able to complete one single backup.
    Any ideas or similar experience?

I have had a similar problem. I have the latest 1TB Time Capsule and backup worked fine in Leopard. I am backing up over my home wireless network. The backup starts, but at some point it freezes with the spinning pizza wheel if I click on anything. Everything freezes with no possibility of force quitting any application.
I tried trashing the plist for Time Machine, but that didn't work. Tonight I'm going to try a backup with the computer connected to the Time Capsule by Ethernet.
I can access my existing Time Machine backups on the Time Capsule.
This is a frustrating situation. But for this, SL works great, but this problem is a critical one.

  • Magic Trackpad not working properly since upgrade

Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, my Magic Trackpad hasn't been working properly. Specifically, the 4 finger gesture to switch between full-screen apps and the 2 finger gesture to open Notifiction Center stop working after awhile. From what I can find out it seems to be connected to my iMac going into sleep mode. I have a feeling this is a bug that Apple needs to fix. Besides going through Restart or into Terminal Mode, is there anything else that can be done?

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I still have to restart the computer to do this and as soon as it goes to sleep again, I'll have the same problem.

  • Cmake not working properly, since upgrading system. [SOLVED]

    Since upgrading my system yesterday Cmake doesn't seem to be working correctly. It doesn't seem to be finding files that a build requires, even though they are in /usr/include. I've been able to reproduce this on a few packages, now.  I've just produced it again, while trying to compile compiz from sources;
    [ninez@ninez compiz-libcompizconfig]$ build-compiz

    CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:127 (compiz_pkg_check_modules):
    Unknown CMake command "compiz_pkg_check_modules".
    -- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!
NOTE: Before the upgrade, compiling with cmake worked just fine, including this very source code.
I'll see if i can remember what other packages were giving me grief, and post them as well. ~ if i manually specify the complete 'include' path for things like CompizCommon (in CMakelists.txt) , i do get past the issue. However, like i said - this wasn't a problem before upgrading, and i shouldn't have to manually put in the full paths. something is wrong.
    any help is appreciated

Looking at the changelog for cmake 2.8.8, it could well be that it is working as intended.
Noah, downgrading to cmake 2.8.7 is quick way around the problem.
    Thanks for this, Rufflove.
I just got in the door, so i think i'll downgrade cmake.

EDIT: Yup, That's seems to do the trick. 2.8.7 works OOTB, 2.8.8 does not.
I've also mentioned this to Sam. (in case, it turns out that they need to change some stuff for that version).

  • Screen Capture Not Working Properly Since Upgrade

The following keyboard shortcut does not work on my laptop:
    Command + Shift + 4 + Spacebar
When I have an external monitor connected, in mirrored mode, it doesn't work. If I disconnect the monitor or change the monitor arrangement into extended mode, it works fine. All the other shortcuts (e.g. CmdShift3) work fine.
    Anyone else have this problem?

OK, I've got a Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon X1900 card and two displays: an Apple 30" and a very old Apple 23" Cinema Display. The latter is attached using the very expensive Apple converter. I just put them into mirror mode and CommandShift+4Spacebar worked fine. If someone at Apple tried to duplicate the problem with whatever hardware they had on hand and got the same result I just did (namely it works), then they would conclude there is no inherent bug in the OS regarding mirrored displays and screenshots. There are two other possiblities:
    1. Something is conflicting in your installation of the OS
    2. There is a bug in the OS, but only for some particular hardware configurations
To eliminate the first possiblity the only thing that can work is for you to do a new installation of the OS on your hardware and see if the problem is still present. So in this case a re-install is not a frivolous suggestion.
There is one other thing to try: create a new test user, leave it as Apple creates it, log into that account and try the screenshot shortcut. That will eliminate some peculiarity associated with your regular account. Of course, it doesn't eliminate the possiblity that something is wrong with the OS as installed, or that something you have installed that is available to all accounts is causing the problem.
You might also try a Safe Mode boot. Problem is that disables everything not strictly necessary to run the computer, and I'm not sure whether the extension(s) necessary for dual displays and screenshots would work correctly, but it is certainly worth a try. Hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime, and wait until you see the login screen with the "Safe Mode" message (the boot will take longer than usual). Login and see how (or if) things work.

  • My music app on my iphone 5 is not working properly since I downloaded ios7.

The music app on my iphone 5 is not working properly since I downloaded ios7.
Sometimes I start to use the music app and then part way though a track it stops. I try to re-start it with no joy. I'm also finding the touch screen is less responsive. Can any help me fix the issue or will I need to take it into the store?

Removing the SIM has no affect on the power of the phone. It is just the part that facilitates connecting to your carrier. Try holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo on the screen and then release the buttons. The phone should reboot. You may need to hold the buttons together for 15-30 seconds.

  • Music/iTunes Match not working properly since update to iOS 7

Music/iTunes Match not working properly since update to iOS 7

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Tecra M5: finger print sensor is not working properly since a drink was spilt into the keyboard

My finger print sensor is not working properly since a drink was spilt into the keyboard. When booting up, it automatically "fails" 5 times in a row (without any attempts to swipe a finger), then defaults to password entry to boot the machine's hard drive.
This is not a problem and all i want to do is disable the finger print sensor, but cannot work out how to do this. I've tried uninstalling the driver, which I seemed to do without any problems, but when rebooting, the sensor still seems active, and still goes through the same process.
Everything else works fine and this is just a minor niggle, but I'd like to remove the annoyance of it beeping at me 5 times while it does its thing!
Can anyone tell me how I completely disable it?
    Thank you.

Have you removed the fingerprint software? If yes check if in device manager is listed some unknown device. Please post the result.
Maybe you can try to disable this unknown device and it will not be recognized as new hardware every time when you start the notebook.

FireFox auto updated to 6.0 this weekend and has not worked properly since. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Made sure all windows componets were up to date and still no joy. Any idea? Windows 7, 64 bit, normal configfuration. It is extreamly slow and never finishes loading ANY page.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Since upgrading to Snow Leopard Problems when editing picture in Photoshop CS4 - not switching to dedicated space

    Hi,
I'd appreciate your help on this, maybe I just chose a stupid set-up to begin with.
I use spaces and have allocated Space 1 to Lightroom and Space 2 to Photoshop to always have a clear backdrop when switching to Photoshop.
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, when I choose 'Edit photo in Photoshop', Photoshop (the frame) opens fine in it's correct space, but the picture does not show. When I click on Window and on the respective picture window the picture shows but all reverts to Space 1 and I have the Lightroom window in the background so that I need to extend the Photoshop window to create a less distracting background.
Any idea why this happens or any suggestions for a better set up?
    Thanks heaps
    Claudia

    Claudia
I am running PS CS4 as an external editor for my Lightroom 2.5 installation on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and I have exactly the same 'Spaces' setup as you (i.e. LR and PS each are in their own space) but I am not experiencing the behaviour you are experiencing.
If it's of any help, you might try fiddling with the window behaviour in PS to see if it changes anything? In the "Window" menu I have selected the "Application Bar" rather than the "Application Frame".

  • Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?

For a few users, since some point in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there has been an occasional problem when trying to wake from sleep if you have Bluetooth enabled for the keyboard, Magic Mouse, Trackpad, etc.
The solution for me that worked 100% of the time was: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.
For me, the problem ran intermittently through 10.6.something, all of 10.7 and now, finally, seems to be resolved in 10.8.2.

  • Adobe Illustrator preview icons changed since upgrade to Snow Leopard

all of my Illustrator files preview icons have changed since upgrading to snow leopard. They use to have the Ai logo. Now they have what looks like the Postscript icon.
I believe preview icons are controlled by the OS so not sure what to do. Have done all of the usual run disk permissions etc.

Illustrator CS4 is installed on my computer and works fine. Double clicking the file will launch or open in Illustrator. It's only the preview that is wrong and a bit of a nuisance if I am looking for an illustrator file

  • Problem with Cisco VPN since upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard a couple of hours ago I can no longer open up my CiscoVPN application (version 4.9.01) which I use to connect to my network at work. When I try now I just get an "Error 51: message"
*Error 51: Unable to communicate with the VPN subsystem.*
Please make sure that you have at least one network interface that is currently active and has an IP address and start this application again.
I can still connect to the network if I use Parallels and use the Windows VPN client - but that's not really the point! I've tried the popular suggestion for Error 51 errors in the past (typing "sudo SystemStarter restart CiscoVPN" via Terminal) which doesn't work.
    Any ideas or help appreciated.
    Acculess

I was able to get it working without re-downloading the client (4.9.0.1.0080 was already installed). I noticed that System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN had been removed during the upgrade to snow leopard, so I pulled it back off of a Time Machine backup. Restoring that directory and doing a 'sudo /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN restart' seemed to fix things up.
