Real problem with Z68a-GD65 (G3)

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone can help. I'm having some issues with my motherboard, It's got a core i5 2500k in it. I was doing some over clocking, just upping the multi, it was fine at 43 then when i went to 44 it wouldn't boot and have been having all kinds of problem with it now. The BIOS light was flashing so i went into the bios to enable the second bios to reflash the first one, i've reflashed it with the latest bios. One of the problems i am having is that when i press the power button it will either take a few seconds to power up then power off then on (might do that a few times) if i leave it it says the overclocking was unsuccessful even though it's a fresh bios with everything a default. Or sometimes it will power up right away then shut down the fire back up again and boot up normally, also the POST seems to take a long time start, say 15 secs from it powering up to the POST beep and should the beep a short sharp one less than a second or kind of long say about a second? other boards i've used have been a really short fast beep. once the system has started and is in windows it seems to be running fine.
any help would be great
Cheers
Alex

Interesting... what you are describing is pretty much what was happening on my system with the initial BIOS installed. There was some kind of a bug that caused the motherboard to switch between BIOS-es after you restarted the PC (happens only on an overclocked system). Basically, after you restart, the system will fail to load the primary BIOS, shut down, and restart again this time loading the secondary BIOS (will work fine). Next time it would fail to load the secondary one, so it would shut down, restart, fail again (I guess attempting to load a tretiary BIOS which this board does not have) and shut down again. At the next attempt the primary BIOS would load just fine and the cycle will begin anew (after each restart)
When it was switching like that it could cause plenty of confusion, since you could have different settings on your primary or secondary BIOS-es, and unless you open the case and look at the BIOS indicators, it's hard to figure out what is happening. From the outside it just looks like the system takes a little longer to load and occasionally restarts few seconds after boot without showing anything.
I got rid of the issue by flashing to the newer BIOS version. But you have tried to do that already (this could fail though - one time it decided to use the multi-update feature and reflashed my primary BIOS from the secondary one again, putting me back on the older BIOS version which brought the issue back). Furthermore, removing the battery should default the settings, removing the overclock (as I have mentioned, the problem seems to arise only when you overclock), meaning that it should have started working normally after that as well.
Still, the symptoms are very much like what I experienced, so I figured I'd post this and perhaps you'll find something of use in it

Just moved my email from Entourage to Mail. Having real problems with getting my signatures to work properly despite sending email as Rich Text.
When adding in a small company logo to the signature, PC's / windows computers only receive signature and logo as attachments.
I've tried all possible fixes I can find including getting a PC user to format the logo but no joy. Has anyone experienced this and any ideas on a fix gratefully received.

Send it as html so the signature is an image source URL

  • REAL problems with iMessage activation same with Face Time

I'm having real problems with IMessage activation same with FaceTime, the phone shows the activation is being made but it does not activate!
Apple ID and password is OK, it's working with other applications
    Any ideas guys?!

My daughters had the same problem with both of their iPod Touches.  One logged back into iMessage and FaceTime, the other consistently would not login with the same error, "An error occurred during activation.  Try again."
Check your date and time.  Its likely incorrect.  Once the date is corrected.  Restart the device.
For what ever reason, some devices lose track of the date.  In my case, apparently, my daughters change the date to affect a particular game by advancing the date.  Little cheaters. (LOL)
    Hope this helps!

  • I'm having a real problem with my cursor which seems to have developed a mind of its own, zigzagging allover, highlighting things without my command, and basically making my MacBook unuseable (it's taken me half an hour just to compose this!).

I'm having a real problem with my cursor which seems to have developed a mind of its own, zigzagging allover, highlighting things without my command, and basically making my MacBook unusable (it's taken me half an hour just to compose this!).

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad or mouse, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • I am having real problems with my hotmail account not working on my iMac

I am having real problems with my hotmail account not working on my IMac but works absolutely fine on my Iphone 5. Can anyone help with the setup for iMac. I am with BT for my Broadband. I am cionverned if I route my Hotmail accoutn to GMail will iy stop working on my Ipone.

How are you accessing Hotmail?  Via your web browser?  Are you using Apple Mail?  Outlook?
The answer will be different depending on how you want to access Hotmail.
If you are using an email client (like Apple Mail, Outlook, Entourage, etc.)) then you need to set up a mail account in your email software.
The incoming Hotmail settings are these:
    Incoming server: pop3.live.com
User name: Your full Hotmail email address (aka "me @ hotmail.com" or "me @ live.com")
    Password: Your Hotmail password
    POP port: 995
Use SSL to connect : yes
    The outgoing Hotmail settings are:
    Outgoing server: smtp.live.com
User name: Your full Hotmail email address
    Password: Your Hotmail password
SMTP port: 587 (override the default port if necesssary)
Use SSL to connect : yes

  • Computer with Z68A-GD65 (G3) mainboard doesn't resume from sleep

    Hi,
Recently I've been having a lot of trouble with my Z68A-GD65 (G3) / Geforce GTX 550 Ti combination, starting after Microsoft updated my graphic drivers to the latest version.
BSOD, hangups , mouse freezes were there all the time so I did a few things to make things stable again, installing older drivers and updating the BIOS of the mainboard to the latest I could find , being 7681vP8.zip
After this the system became stable again, but I have this weird problem that I never had before:  sleep mode works, and most of the time it resumes, but not after a longer period of sleep, lets say a whole night....
When I try to resume from sleep mode after a night,  the system boots but I can't see anything on the screen , the graphic card doesn't resume.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Matt GB, Certain aspects of OC'ing and updating software are best done manually in any case.
Your initial disappointment reflects to an extent my own, but with a bit of testing and patience the confidence in the board returned and I am now pretty pleased with the results so far. Please check my feedback in the Beta BIOS thread after the last N31 release.
May I suggest that you take the time and report your personal findings to MSI technical so that they can address your concerns. Just complaining about what you are unable to achieve serves absolutely no purpose at all. We are all here to contribute to finding solutions.

  • Clearing cookies a real problem with iOS

When clearing cookies in a browser on a Mac or PC, the user can select which websites are to have their cookies cleared. With iOS it's all or nothing. Clicking "clear cookies" clears all cookies for all sites. THAT is a problem.
I ran into a problem with PayPal. I was developing a test site for local charities to accept donations using PayPal. PayPal offers the user the choice of paying with PayPal or a credit card. Once you make your choice, you are stuck with that choice every time you attempt to donate since your choice is remembered in a cookie. I contacted PayPay to complain. I was told nothing could be done, it uses cookies for convenience and security. My "solution" was to delete cookies for the site and restart a session. There are two problems with that. First, that advice would have to be passed on to every donor and many donors likely do not know how to clear cookies on their iPhones or iPads. The second is the all or nothing problem. Blowing away cookies to satisfy PayPal blows away information like my preferences for BestBuy, Bank of Nova Scotia, etc. Because of a dumb, dumb decision on implementing its site by Paypal its solution is to seriously inconvenience users.
Yesterday, I updated my Scotiabank app on my iPhone and iPad. Now I cannot access the bank with the mobile app. I called tech support and, guess what, the solution is to clear cookies. Once again I pointed out that clearing cookies on iOS is an all or nothing affair and I am unwilling to blow away all cookies to overcome a problem introduced by Scotiabank with its updated app. I gave the examples that my card number will be blown away for every banking and financial site, that shopping site preferences will be gone, etc.
The real sollution to the problem is site-by-site cookie deletion for iOS. Without that, blowing away cookies to satisfy one website's requirement impacts negatively on all the other websites that use cookies. A fix is needed. App developers have to realize this problem too.

  • Having Some Real Problems with SSI

Please forgive me if my questions seem inexperienced. I am
just learning how to incorporate server side includes into a new
site I'm working on and am having some real problems getting things
    to work properly...
I have been reading everything I can find on SSI's, and have
finally got everything to work properly on my local system,
however, now, I'm having issues after uploading the files to my
    server (IX Web Hosting).
According to this document (“How to incorporate
Server-Side Includes into an HTML page “) from the Adobe
Knowledgebase, step number 4 says to…
    Text
“Highlight all the text displayed in black and delete it.
The HTML inspector should contain only the information in red. It
is especially important NOT to have <html>, <head>
or<body> tags in the SSI, because this will cause the HTML on
the page to become invalid once the SSI is inserted.”
    Text
Well, I tried that, but the code just looks exactly as it
does in the code viewing pane. No RED characters anywhere! So I
just deleted all the <html>, <head>, and <body>
    tags and saved the file.
Now, when I insert the SSI into a new html file (which I
saved as .shtml because that’s what my web hosting provider
requires) everything looks great on my local system, but when I
upload the files to my server and try to test the page with the SSI
inserted into it, I get the following error message:
HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0 Date:
    Sat, 05 May 2007 19:42:48 GMT X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Connection:
    close Content-Type: text/html
    404 Object Not Found
Both files are located in the same directory (maybe
    that’s a problem?)
My question is simple, exactly what should I absolutely NOT
delete out of the source SSI file? Is there some part of it other
than the content I want to reference that needs to stay in there?
Also, both my server side include file and the html file that
references it are saved with the .shtml extension. Is this wrong?
Or does the ssi file need to be saved with an.ssi extension?
Again, sorry for the amateurish questions, but we all have to
    learn sometime right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    ~Greg

Here's an shtml skeleton page -
    <html>
    <head>
    <title></title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <!--#include file="foo.html" -->
    </body>
    </html>
    and here's 'foo.html' -
    <p>Hello world</p>
    Does that help?

  • Problems with Z68a-gd55 g3 and msi 660 gtx oc ed.

Bought the 660gtx card last week and have been pulling my hair since.. been getting the no post problem with the new card as some other ppl here I see.
from what I gather it's a bios update which is making the combo of these cards to work properly the msi liveupdate took me up to n.70 and that didn't help after reading a couple of posts here i found out about the beta updates for my bios.
Beeing a bit new when it comes to flashing I thought I'd make myself sure at what update to use.
In another post the tip was using .n88 is it still the best to use?

yes it's sandy bridge however I seem to do something wrong with the bios update. using the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool and ran it got the .n88 on there set the bios to boot from it, got a press any key to boot from usb key then it shoot directly to win logo and starts windows.
Running the usb flashing tool program again and it says I got the BIOS Version: VN.8B8 (aka Version: V23.8B8) and a restart later it reverts back to BIOS Version: VN.7 (aka Version: V23.7)
First time I shut down windows after it started and did a clearcmos.
I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong.
Might as well post my system while I'm at it.
    System is:
    MSI Z68A-GD55 G3
    Intel core I5 1155
    2x4gb Corsair DDR3 1600
MSI Geforce 660GTX 2GB Twin frozr
    320GB WD Caviar
Fractal design Newton R2 650W Modular
almost forgot second time I tried I updates as before and didn't do a clearcmos just turned off the computer plugged the 660 gtx in and started this time I got 2 beeps from mainboard then nothing. then silence for a while then two beeps again until I turned off the computer put my old 250 gts back in and the bois had reverted back to VN.7 again.
without the update and the 660 gtx the update fans  running hd runs a bit then nothing btw.

  • I have had real problems with crashing of firefox. I finally realized it was my smartswipe extension. Why does this happen?

I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. It still kept crashing. I then disabled a lot of the extensions etc,. Realized it is the smart swipe. They told me it was compatible wtih firefox. It is not. Is there a way to fix this? I really like using smartswipe.

Can you provide your recent Crash IDs here ?? (as described in the following article)
    * [[Firefox crashes#w_get-help-fixing-this-crash|Get help fixing this Crash]]
That way we can get your Crash Reports which you can then provide to the SmartSwipe add-on Developers. By doing this, you can help them figure-out the problem with their add-on.

  • Strange Problem with P67A-GD65

Hi just got this board along with a 2500k and 8gb corsair xms3. Im getting a strange problem with the board as it when its supposed to be rebooting it just shuts down.
Ive flashed it to the latest 1.6 bios before anything just to be safe which went ok, it boots and i select boot from dvd, i get to the part where windows 7 install wants to reboots and it just shuts down, then when i power up it starts win7 install and says there was an error and i must restart installation
    Any ideas?
Ive tried clearing the cmos, removed power leads and cmos battery for a good while, even reflashed the bios to no avail so far

  • Frustraited with Z68A-GD65 G3 Throttling issues

Well, I can't seem to beat these throttling issues. I've now successfully tried every single Beta BIOS including V23.3B4 (N34) which many claim seems to have fixed the throttling issues, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
In the past couple of hours I've tried N34, N48, N49, N60, N40, and every other beta bios lised in https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=151148.200 that thread.
I've disabled everything in the BIOS that could have anything to do with this to my knowledge, but could someone please provide a list of things that must be turned off to prevent throttling? I've turned off everythign I can see/think of....But still, I boot into windows, running at 50x100 at 1.4vcore, everything's running smooth, run Intel Burn Test, and immediately watch the multi in cpu-z as well as realtemp drop to around 41 or 44 or 46, it bounces around, but WILL NOT STAY at 50!!!!! ?!?!
I've read somewhere that the original BIOS version, N00, did not throttle - does anyone know where I can get it to give that a shot?

Quote from: Bernhard on 30-January-12, 14:02:01
Lets keep the language to standard English please. This is an international forum and slang is not understood by everyone.
If your CPU is limited at 4,6 with a reasonable voltage, then accept that. Yes, you can push it further with huge voltage increases, but at the risk of ruining the CPU. Some CPUs just need more voltage than others.
This thread is about throttling, lets focus on that. If you have another issue, then start a new thread.
    No problems with my throttling.
HU16E was hinting towards a setting in the CPU features.  Not voltage but related to TDP.
My 2500k can pass Intel Burn Test with 1.35v at 4.6GHZ no problem.  However any multiplier higher than 46 and I have to massively increase voltage to get it stable.  The voltage beyond 1.35v at 4.6ghz doesn't seem to be scaling correctly.  There is no offset voltage setting on the BIOS and I'm not sure which settings HU16E is hinting towards.
I think there is some type of electronic harmonic inbalance when I increase voltage beyond 1.36v.  I have a very good power supply.  I have fantastic water cooling.  I have a great cpu from what I can see for it's ability to run stable with auto voltage at the 4.6GHZ mark with x46 multiplier.
I don't think my CPU is at it's max potential.  I just think a BIOS setting is off or there is a better BIOS that I need to be running for over clocking.  I'm running the official v23.6 right now.

  • Real problem with highlights

Sorry for posting a new one but I am in real trouble here
On a simple menu with 3 buttons that i built in photoshop CS2 I have a nice simulation with the correct highlights appearing on my buttons when I roll over then if i build the DVD the buttons highlights doesn't appear at all.
My menu images and highlights are 720x480 ntsc wide screen pixels
I used a simple color mode in the menu settings
    thanks for any precious help

There may be somthing about your overlays that is incompatible with simple color mode, although it appears to work in simulator.
Is your overlay a simple grayscale layer? You might try the advanced color mode. It's a little more complex, but not unusably so. Remember to set both the selected and active colors.

  • Disappointed with Z68A-GD65 (G3)

I have to say I am very disappointed with this board.
The MSI Live Auto update software doesn't work at all, this advertised feature was a large part of my buying decision as I wanted quick and easy updates.
The advertised THX Tru sound is not supported on this board even though the web page says it is.
I am unable to use my Xai laser mouse as it causes long boot times with error codes 98 & B4 at post.
Even after updating the Bios to Ver 23.2 problems still persist at the posting stage.
I have unplugged all my peripherals just leaving my logitech mouse and keyboard and yet I am still getting posting errors even though the PC now boots quickly.
The OC Genie overclocks the CPU to a constant 4.2.  I expected it to be able to run at 1.6 under light load and boost to 4.2 only when needed.
I expected a lot more from MSI and am now contemplating returning the board and choosing another.
