Error creating persisant state file: filename ='/var/lib/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.persist-' , error='Permission denied (13)'

Could be that there's an existing corrupted /var/lib/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.persist statefile. Just try removing it.

You can probably simply download all the Windows 7 versions from the Lenovo Web site. Win 7 by itself will install enough to get you running for the most part.

  • How do I ammend slow bootup time on my Macbook Pro??

My comp takes 3-5 mins to boot up. I want to know how i can speed up boot up time?

The cause of slow bootup could be any number of things.  Maybe your hard drive failing?  Maybe the hard drive is full?  Maybe the directory structure is messed up?  Who really knows?
quickest method to fix...backup your files, erase the drive and reinstall the OS.

program loads real slow (it take 3 to 4 times longer than in windows xp.
I am using fire fox 4.0.1, this problem is the same with earlier versions as well

I have followed the troubleshooting solutions, reset, no add-ons etc.. even full uninstall & reinstall. Nothing has worked to resolve the issue.

  • My Macbook pro 2011 suddenly has a really slow bootup. What can I do?

My Macbook pro 2011 suddenly has a really slow bootup. What can I do? I did install a cannon printer upgrade and security upgrade. Not sure if it was something to do with that. Also I tried the disk utility repair and didn't improve anything. I also reset PRAM and SMC.

    1. Try booting in e Verbose mode - press and hold [cmd] + [v] keys just right after the boot chord sounds till you get a black screen and white letters.
if there are some delays in the boot process  -  you should see where the system is stuck.
this mode is not permanent - the next [re-] boot will be normal.
    2. repair permissions. disk utility does fine. Disk Warrior is better.
sometimes after half done updates (it may happen though should not) there are items that are "belonging to someone else"
    3. try  cache cleaner (or there are some other utilities as well - I just like SlCC  more)  http://www.northernsoftworks.com/snowleopardcachecleaner.html - it's shareware though the basic functionality is free for you to use.
Try caches -> deep cleaning (please read the developers site what it does) and select checkmark at all options - reply yes to the requests and after a reboot the next reboot should be as it is intended.
p.s be sure you do have backup

  • Since new update my games on Zynga hog all my memory and run real slow - I'm frustrated!

I updated firefox and flash as suggested and I have had problems ever since with it hogging all my memory and running real slow hanging up and constantly having to clear cookies and cache multiple times a day. I tried chrome and I don't like it. I like firefox how can this be fixed.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Firefox has been real slow for past 2 days, IE is fine

    Hi,
For the last 2 days Firefox has been real slow in terms of browsing and wont even start downloads in a lot of cases.
I upgraded to Firefox 4 today to see if it would solve the problem but it didnt. A lot of times websites show up messed up and its getting really annoying.
    What is wrong with Firefox?

    You should also update Flash.
    See http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:

  • Foxfire is running real slow and and any search I do it says problem loading page.

when I get on internet it is real, real slow. but it does pull up aol.com my homepage. but then when i try to search even websites i visit regularly it says there is a problem loading the page.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

You can try to reset (power off/on) the router.

How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?

  • Slow bootup for MSI 845E Max2

    Hi,
    Recently I installed a MSI Max2 Motherboard/P4 1.8Ghz with Maxtor 7200rpm ATA133 harddisk and Windows98.
The bootup to Windows98 is very slow. The Windows98 startup screen will stay for at least 30s before going to the desktop. What could be the reason?
Also how come the ratio settings on the bios is displayed as "Locked" and I could not change the ratio settings.
    Pls help. Thanks.

Your problem is probobly that you need to assign a manual IP to the NIC in order to prevent the IP being negoshiated each time.
    control panel->network
find the component TCP/IP->intel Pro 10/100 (or whatever the NIC is showing up as).
Choose in the proporties to assign a manual IP such as 192.168.0.1 with a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0 (for example).
Thanks! I did what you advise to add in a dummy IP address. It does improve the bootup time but still slower compare to my previous system. By the way it took 1min 15sec from bootup to Windows Desktop. Slow right?
Could it be the IDE cable, I mean is there such a cable call ATA133 or ATA133 uses the same standard IDE cable?  :O

  • Osx mountain lion macbook pro 15" SLOW BOOTUP

heres the logs. im not very good with osx yet but i started the bootup as close to the time i pasted the logs as possible.
around 45-60 second boot up which is slow compared to the few seconds of a week ago
also just before it goes from boot up to the login screen... it goes blue as if its looking for or calibrating to another external display.
    http://paste.pound-python.org/show/34874/
    osx 10.8.4

A few seconds boot (10-15 seconds) is what I would expect from a SSD... 45 seconds sounds about right for a hard drive (depending on your login items).
I don't see anything unusual in your log... do you have a SSD or a hard disk drive?

  • Leopard Slow Bootup Time

I don't know why but my macbook pro's bootup time is very long, usually taking approximately two minutes to get to my desktop. It usually takes 30-40 seconds before the apple logo pops up when I start up the computer. I only have six login items (growl, logitech for mouse, itunes, caffeine, quicksilver, istat menus) but after the long bootup everything else is fine. As shown I'm running 10.5.6 and I've already clean installed once in the beginning, about one year ago, when I got the macbook pro brand new. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
How much free drive space is there?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data. Not enough available drive space can cause the slow boot you are experiencing.
Check your boot disk for errors and repair if necessary.
Restart your Mac while holding down the C key, pressing the power button and inserting your restore disk all at the same time. An Installer window will open, but do not proceed with any installations. Instead, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities > Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility window click First Aid, and then click Verify. If Disk Utility reports errors, click Repair. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you don't use a disk utility for maintenance, you can force background maintenance tasks...

Six login items is a tad more than usual. You might one to try deleting at least one app from login items in System Preferences/Accounts and see if that makes a difference.
