Real slow performance on 100mbit connection with WRT320N

I noticed that 100mbit connections on the WRT320N perform realy bad. I tried a XBOX and a Aspire One laptop, both have 100mbit ethernet. Throughput is about 1-2 mbit/s.
If I put a gbit switch in between peformance is good - 80-90 mbit/s.
So:
100mbit xbox/aspire  > wrt320N > gbitNAS = 1-2 mbit/s
100mbit xbox/aspire > gbit switch > wrt320N > gbitNAS = 90 mbit/s (nice!)
for reference: gbit pc > WRT320N > gbitNAS = 200mbit/s (NAS can't perform better)
I tried various duplex and speed settings on the Aspire (not possible on the XBOX) but that dit not help.
Can't find any option in the WRT230N to tweak the interfaces. Running the latest firmware avail on this site.
Anybody suggestions please?

Yesterday I got my Asus O!Play HDP-R1 player to replace my XBMC@XBOX. The Asus has a 100mbit ethernet port. I connected it to the WRT320N and I was almost sure it would have the same issue, but it did not. It streamed MKV and DVD files without any issues.
I googled a lot on this issue and found that a lot of people have this issue with the XBOX and other gigabit router/switches. The solution they found is to manual set the switchport to 100mbit full duplex. However this seems not possible on the WRT320N.
So I think this can be solved by finding the right driver for the 100mbit host (which I guess is a problem for the XBOX..)
Best would be to have a way to set the switchport to 100mbit full duplex. So I hope Linksys can add this feature, or can advise how to set somehow with the current firmware.

Update on some things I have tried
As I am not sure the cause, I have been reading and trying different things, last thing was to set the interfaces to Duplex Full
I did this on both the Ethernet ports on the routers, and both of the Fast Ethernet ports being used on the switch, but has not changed the speed that PC1 is getting.
Also turned on CEF on both routers

  • Slow dial up Internet connection with Internal modem

I just bought a Mac G4 with dual 1.25 gig processors and internal modem for my dial up connection to the Internet. My modem connect speed is 28.8K and max through put on a session is 19K.
I can use any of 3 Windows/PC's and plug them into the same phone jack and get a solid 50.6K connection with a max through put of 49K. Get basically the same connect speeds with a Windows Laptop
Any thoughts of what may be the problem with the Mac Internal modem and such a slow connect speed.
Would buying an external modem with its own processor help me in better connect speeds. Simply at 28.8K the Mac is next to useless on the web.
My home is all wired with Cat 5e, all jacks are a direct run to the punch down block.
My goal is to switch my business to all Mac's, but I need to get the connect problem resolved first.
    Thank You

My girlfriend lives in a hill town in a fairly wooded mountain road. She cannot get broadband or DSL either, and the town will, probably never get it. She has satellite, and when it's working well it's great, but in bad weather or cloudy days, the reception is spotty and the satellite provider charges mucho buck for their satellite high speed internet acesss.
So, she has no choice but to rely on the town's phone lines and basically is stuck with dial-up. Unfortunately, the town's phone lines are very old and are analog lines with no digital support. The fastest she can ever achieve is 28k to 30K speeds. Panifully slow dial-up and even small downloads are an experience in patience and time.
Maybe call the phone company to check what kind of phone lines your town or surrounding towns are using.
And if they know what data transfer speeds the lines support
    Also, a thought.
If this Mac was not purchased new, but as a refurbished or used Mac, it could've had a "new" slower modem installed because the original failed and a identical spec'd modem was not installed.
I have a single 1.25 Ghz MDD and has a V.92 56K internal modem and I just found out my town's phone lines can support a 125k data transfer or "high speed dial-up". Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, my 56K will only get me to transfer speeds of between 44k and 48. Not sure if this is fault of my modem, accessing my ISP as the dial-up number dials into a tower at least 20 miles away and my ISP's server is over 40 miles away.
My brother came to visit and his PC laptop could dial-in to his ISP and was able to get transfer speeds of 100k to 120k.
Again, not sure if this was because of a faster modem or not.
You would think that if the phone line in my area can support 128k speeds that my modem should be tapping in and operating at 50k spedds or close to the modem's max of 56k.
This is a stumper becuase I am considering looking for a high speed dial-up provider to replace my current ISP, but if my modem won't clock to any faster than 44k or 48k , I think this would be a waste of my efforts and money.
If anyone can help me shed some light on my situation, this will help me out, as well.

  • Slow performance of iTunes store with TV show favorites?

I am wondering if anyone else has been seeing performance problems with the Apple TV when using the iTunes store and TV show favorites? I am having issues with the iTunes store account when I log into my 'Favorites' for TV programs. It takes a LONG time to log in and bring up my favorites list (like 2 minutes sometimes!), and sometimes it will fail and say the iTunes store is not available.
Yet browsing around the store without loading my favorites everything is peachy. Usually once I get into the favorites and load a show, it will play, although sometimes it thinks I have not purchased an episode when I have a season pass, and ask me to purchase it. If I click purchase, it tells me it is already purchased and would I like to download it, and then it plays.
I have a lot of shows in my favorites list now, so I think the system is getting overloaded or something and is having issues due to the number of shows I have in my favorites list? It was always way faster when I had less shows in my favorites list.
Also, when I start having connection errors if I restart my Apple TV it usually works much better (but still slow). Rebooting my router makes not difference (Apple Airport Extreme) and both of my Apple TV's exhibit the same problems in the bedroom or living room.
None of this is running on WiFi either; it is all hard cabled.
Honestly I think the iTunes store servers are getting overloaded when trying to deal with customer accounts that have a lot of favorites in the cloud? Has anyone else been experiencing the same problem?

I would guess that the Singapore itunes store does not sell these things.  If they did, then you would see them.

  • Slow performance of Application server with a 9i database.

I am experiencing extremely slow perrformance of my 1.0.2.2.2 Application Server portal with my 9.0.1.2.1 database.
After logging in it takes forever just to connect to the Portal home page and even longer using the navigation link to connect to 'my pages'.
This degradation of performance pretty much happened over night. One day it was fine and the next it seemed to hang on every movement.
My server is running on Win 2000 with 1 GB of RAM. I ordered another GB of RAM hoping to alleviate a little of the congestion. I think it must hhave something to do with all the indexes, but I don't know how to tune the DB for it.
Does anyone have any idea of how to tune the DB to work with the Application Server portal? I am developing this portal for a client and I hate to think what will happen when it becomes fully rolled out and robust.

I tried to do a simular thing, but I did not notice a performance decrease. However it might be possible that this happens. For example, if you are calling a time critical vi in the second while loop, it will lock all other processes until it is finished. Or maybe you are calling a shared resource (allocate an array, access to a file, using a mutex) that the other loop holds. Until the shared resource is released the first while loop must wait before it can access that resource (memory, file, etc.).
Without looking at the source code it will be hard to say what is causing it. I recommend to remove part by part subVI's from the second loop, to debug where the problem exists. If you want I can have a look at the code, please reply to this thread.

  • Very slow performance jclient when running with remote server

We have performance problems when running a JClient application, if the Application Server is on a different machine in the same 100mbit network. In our application we open 6 panels with about 15 TextFieldBindings each, on a tabbed pane. Each panel has it's own viewobject on the server. It takes the panel allmost two minutes to start up. Our own code seems to perform reasonable, but between the last line of code and the actual visibility of the panel there is a long period of low intensity network traffic between the client and the server machine, while both machines have low CPU usage. We tried setting the synchmode of the ApplicationModule to SYNC_LAZY and SYNC_IMMEDIATE, but this does not seem to make any difference.
It seems as if the server starts throwing a lot of events after our code is executed, which are caught by the BC4J controlbinding listeners. The performance is a lot better if we have the server and the client on the same machine, and the database on a different one.
This kind of performance is not acceptable for this application. Are we doing something that should not be done with BC4J, or are we missing something?

This kind of performance is not acceptable for this application. Are we doing something that should not be done with BC4J, or are we missing something? You must be hitting a performance issue regarding download of all property metadata for setting labels etc. on the UI (in case of remote-tier deployment).
This issue has been resolved for our next release of JDeveloper. Basically a new api has been added that allows 3tier apps to "download" the set of "used" VO definitions, Attribute Definitions etc on the client, so that the UI comes up quick.
Also a application/ui/binding load code-generation has been modified to allow for "lazy" loading of controls/lazy binding etc, quite like what's done in the JClient Control-bindings sample on otn.
For 9.0.2, you may shorten the "load" time, by loading only the UI that's first displayed and pre-loading ViewObject definition. However it'll still be slower than what the above mentioned method would do in one roundtrip.

  • Slow (2.0 MBps) connection with Airport

I'm having trouble being able to stream HD content to my Macbook Pro either from my hardwired iMac, or a hardwired NAS as well as intermittent drops with airtunes. The router is setup at 2.4 Ghz wide radio mode, tri-band (b/g/n), and I believe I am connected n, but I am not getting the speeds you would expect. I also have an Airport Express in the room I did these tests, but it is setup to join the network, not bridge it, so as I understand it, I am not routing traffic for the MBP through it, just sending it data when I use airtunes.
Copying a file over, the network speed maxes out around 2.0 MBps, which seems very low for an n-mode connection. The router (do not have the model # right now) does not support 5 Ghz mode, so I can't test that.
Are there any settings I should look for in OS X that may be affecting this? I am going to try and run ethernet to the AE and have it bridge the connection in 5 Ghz mode later today. Could 2.4 versus 5 Ghz be causing such a slowdown?

Well, higher than 2MBps, I'm not sure what real world results I should get but if I'm not mistaken, 802.11n is rated at much higher speeds.

  • Slow performance while integrating data with ODI while open report

In ODI i have a schedulled package that runs every 4 hours, this package loads data from an DB table to BAM.
Normally each execution loads about 4000 records and takes about 7 seconds to be completed.
However, in some executions the same 4000 records take about 30 minutes to be loaded into BAM; normally this happens when a user has a BAM report open in the browser.

    Hi Manisha,
When previewing a report, Report Designer need connect to the report data sources, run dataset queries, cache the data on the local computer, process the report to combine data and layout, and render the report. The report processor also runs all the queries
for datasets in the report using the current parameter defaults, and saves the results as a local data cache (.rdl.data) file.
The first time that previewing a report that relies on a server reference. In your scenario, you can try to improve preview performance through the link below:

  • Slow performance of Java program with Oracle db on Solaris

    Hi all,
I'm developing a Java program to read a large no. of records (arnd 40,000) from a file and populate into an Oracle database on a Solaris system. I'm using a thin JDBC driver. The problem is that the program runs very slow on Solaris.
When I run the Java program on a Windows machine (and connect to the Solaris machine) the program runs quickly. However when I run the program on the Solaris machine itself, it runs around 20 times slower. I need the program to run faster in the Solaris environment. Can anyone help?

  • ITunes Store works very slow or does not connect with my account.

When I use my account to sign into the iTunes store, the store either (1) Operates very very slowly or (2) Ignores my request or (3) Reports an unknown connection error. This happens on ANY Mac computer (Windows not tested). Problem moves with the account to other machines. Other accounts work fast and fine. Store works rapidly when signed out. Logging into an Apple website with my id works fine. Tried managing my id. Nothing changed. Started experiencing problems today (December 25, 2011) when trying to purchase iTunes Certs. for Christmas gifts. I have one of those old mac.com Apple IDs. Very odd. Ideas?

  • Why is my time machine backup so slow even when directly connected with usb 3.0?

On my new 15" Retina running OS 10.7.5 the backup of about 225 GB would estimate about 17 hours and then stall out around 22 GB or so.
Now it seems to hang on the setup.
I've just gone back to my old machine (late 2008 15" MBP running OS 10.7.4) to see if it would work any faster I am getting an estimate of "about a day" on about 280 GB. (Backwards compatible at USB 2.0 speeds of course).
In both instances I am directly connected via USB 3.0 to a Seagate 3TB desktop drive that I reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) right out of the box.
I bought this drive to replace my old 500 GB Time Capsule which is much too small to maintain backups for my MBP and my wife's Air. My plan was to run the initial backups hard-wired (for speed) and then attach it to a new Airport Express for subsequent backups.
No network or wireless to potentially cause this lag.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

It's true. I love Google. Miss the maps on the iPhone5 for sure.
Like you say, I end up expanding all my searches in Google to give me more results within apple discussions rather than search here.
I moved the external 3 TB drive over to the Time Capsule via its USB port and it is showing up. So that's one bullet maybe dodged so far.
On a grander scale, I'm currently in the midst of trying to redo my home network and I'm in a little over my head.
    I will try to explain...
My previous network ran as follows:
Time Warner cable coax ----------> their provided Motorola modem ----via ethernet---> My old 500 GB Time Capsule creating the WIFI network for my place and feeding three other old style Airport Express devices in various rooms extending the network but essentially just for AirTunes
Also, the Time Capsule ran ethernet cables to my Western Digital TV and Western Digital MyBook Live Duo 4TB drive. Both of these Western Digital devices have wifi built in but I wasn't getting the playback speeds I was expecting so I hardwired them with ethernet for faster service which has been working for a while.
    NOW.....
I am replacing the three old Airport Express devices with three new Airport Express devices and making one of them the Master device to create a new network (dumping the old one and trying to start fresh).
Here's my plan and what I have hooked up so far.
TWC coax ----> Motorola modem ---ethernet----> Airport Express #1 (creating WIFI network for Airport Express #2 and #3 AND ---------ethernet-------> Old 500 GB Time Machine-----ethernet #1-----> WDTV Live AND ----ethernet #2------> WD MBLD 4TB AND NOW -------USB-----> 3TB Seagate external for Time Machine drive expansion. ALSO POSSIBLY -----ethernet #3------> Apple TV 2 for the same reasons I have the WD devices hooked up via ethernet. I don't trust the wifi to be fast enough for video streaming.
Now, despite having read wikis and other explanations for Bridge mode, DHCP and NAT settings for routers (in this case, the TM) I still can't figure exactly what mode the TM should get setup with.
Also all of these devices are set up in different pockets on the same shelf so I was worried that all the WIFI signals would interfere with each other (hence all the ethernet).
My plan was to turn of the wireless in the TM and have all of these devices branch off via ethernet. Which brings me back to my uncertainty regarding whether to set the TM to Off (Bridge Mode), DHCP, or DHCP and NAT.
From what I've read I would think it should be in Bridge mode but I also read some things about how bandwidth use in bridge mode can be very high and could cause problems using the internet possibly over my overall wifi network? Although I'm not sure I'm understanding that correctly.
I apologize for my lack of understanding in setting up a complicated network. I've just been wanting to get all of this working the way I've hoped (correctly) for a long time.
Thanks in advance for any more advice!

    No.
A database shouldn't even be reached from inside the view layer. Do it in the controller/business layer, e.g. the backing bean. Read on about JDBC, DAO, DTO. If you're already familiar with that, consider an ORM, like Hibernate.
