Real-Time or Render?

Realistically, how many of you guys can edit in real time? I mean have three or four video tracks with effects applied and be able to click play and watch it in real-time? I have two video tracks with one track scaled down (ala picture-in-picture) laying over the other video track, and my machine won't play it. I have to render it first. And this is SD. Are people really editing HD in real time? Am I doing something wrong?

First of all, I always render. I may preview in RT, but then I render.
Second - what format of SD are you using? What drives are you coming from? You may be i/o bound rather than CPU bound.
Third - what RT settings are you using? My system will play pretty much everything I throw at it, albiet at a limited resolution or frame rate...

  • Composition switches to 'not real time'; incomplete render

    Hi there,
I'm a film student at Ryerson University in Toronto, new to AE CS3, and having a problem.
I have a 30-second composition utilizing keyframes, and all of the groundwork is done, but in the preview (both regular and RAM) it is not moving in realtime (29.97 fps) and the composition stops 5 seconds early in the RAM preview. When it renders, the image is out of synch with the music.
Even my professor is stuck with it. I've tried disabling the layer cache and set a purge for every frame, but nothing's working.
    Any help?
computer is a dell inspiron 1420 with 2GB RAM and plenty of hard drive space.

    Thanks Jonas and Mylenium.
Followed every direction and insight, and none fix the problem.
The audio file was created using Audacity; as far as i can tell it was a perfect capture; imported from .mp3 and converted to .wav with no problems on playback, both in WMP and AE during the ram preview.
Once a .mov file, the synching comes and goes. The first 7 seconds are fine, then it slows down and goes out of synch and stays that way.

  • Final cut and hardwear acceleration (real time Rendering )

    hi all
used final cut pro in vedio editting i search for any solution for accelerat my rendering time ...am tierd coz its take alot time ....i search about hardwear pci card like aja and matrox but i dont sure it work..............
i search also about tuning of the mac os itself but i dont find any things.........
plz help me if any one know ...............

There are no third party hardware solutions to speeding up render times. Not Matrox, or AJA. A better graphics card will make certain effects real time or render faster (the FXPlug ones only). But really, the only thing that speeds up render times are processors. So the only way to speed up render times would be to get a faster machine.

  • Render in real time?

I'm NEW to FCP. I just got FCS and I'm on version 6.0.6
Everytime i edit ANYTHING i get that RED BAR at the timeline and have to render. i thought there was a way to render in real time to speed up the process?
    help!

    Open up Compressor.
    Drop in the files
Open up the ProRes preset in the Inspector window. You want to pass through the frame rate and image size. Make sure the audio is converted to 48khz/16 bit AIFF.
Save the Preset if it has been changed
Apply the preset to the clips and submit
If you have set up a Quickcluster and have a multicore mac, the conversion can be relatively quick.
Recognize the output files will be significantly larger than the h.264 originals

  • How to create a Real Time Interactive Business Intelligence Solution in SharePoint 2013

    Hi Experts,
I was recently given the below requirements to architect/implement a business intelligence solution that deals with instant/real data modifications in data sources. After going through many articles, e-books, expert blogs, I am still unable to piece the
right information to design an effective solution to my problem. Also, client is ready to invest in the best
infrastructure in order to achieve all the below requirements but yet it seems like a sword of Damocles that hangs around my neck in every direction I go.
    Requirements
    1) Reports must be created against many-to-many table relationships and against multiple data sources(SP Lists, SQL Server Custom Databases, External Databases).
    2) The Report and Dashboard pages should refresh/reflect with real time data immediately as and when changes are made to the data sources.
    3) The Reports should be cross-browser compatible(must work in google chrome, safari, firefox and IE), cross-platform(MAC, Android, Linux, Windows) and cross-device compatible(Tabs, Laptops &
    Mobiles).
    4) Client is Branding/UI conscious and wants the reports to look animated and pixel perfect similar to what's possible to create today in Excel 2013.
    5) The reports must be interactive, parameterized, slice able, must load fast and have the ability to drill down or expand.
    6) Client wants to leverage the Web Content Management, Document Management, Workflow abilities & other features of SharePoint with key focus being on the reporting solution.
    7) Client wants the reports to be scalable, durable, secure and other standard needs.
Is SharePoint 2013 Business Intelligence a good candidate? I see the below limitations with the Product to achieve all the above requirements.
    a) Cannot use Power Pivot with Excel deployed to SharePoint as the minimum granularity of refresh schedule is Daily. This violates Requirement 1.
    b) Excel Services, Performance Point or Power View works as in-memory representation mode. This violates Requirement 1 and 2.
    b) SSRS does not render the reports as stated above in requirement 3 and 4. The report rendering on the page is very slow for sample data itself. This violates Requirement 6 and 7.
Has someone been able to achieve all of the above requirements using SharePoint 2013 platform or any other platform. Please let me know the best possible solution. If possible, redirect me to whitepapers, articles, material that will help me design a effective
solution. Eagerly looking forward to hear from you experts!.
Please feel free to write in case you have any comments/clarifications.
    Thanks,
    Bhargav

    Hi Experts,
Request your valuable inputs and support on achieving the above requirements.
    Looking forward for your responses.

  • What is the best way to match clip and sequence settings for real-time editing?

I am a long time FCP user and trying to make the After Effects workflow a little smoother by utilizing the Adobe suite.
One of the most valuable things I miss about FCP is that when I drop a clip in a blank sequence (no matter what the settings of the seq) it will ask if I want to match the settings of the clip. This ensures that no rendering is required to quickly edit the video in real-time.
Is there a plugin or function in Premiere CS4 that I am missing that will afford me this feature? Currently i am doing everything I can to match the clip settings when creating a sequence, but sadly i'm still having to render the timeline to preview the edit.
    lh

And in CS4, if there is not a matching Preset, you can choose the Desktop Preset, which will allow you to customize nearly every attribute to match your source footage. The name is a bit of a misnomer, but has been around for a long time. I would have called it the "Custom Preset," but Adobe never called.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I just learned something new about CS5 from Curt, because of your question - thanks!

  • Premiere Pro 8.1 won't play sped-up clip in real-time smoothly

Just upgraded my computer to an x99 MB, Haswell E process (5820k), GTX 970, and 64 GB of RAM (only using 24 GB due to nvidia issue with 32 GB ram +).
    I have a few clips from a 5D MKII-III (h264 MOV) that I'm speeding up significantly (2500%).
Premiere doesn't, and has never liked to play sped up clips smoothly for me in real-time. I thought this latest hardware upgrade would help, but same result.
    Has anyone experienced this?
I can provide my clip offline if anyone wants to test it.
My CPU util goes up significantly during playback, but doesn't spike on the new system (only 70% ish).

    Luke,
I ran your .MOV clip in a fresh project, put it on the timeline, and set the speed to 2500%. Observations below were largely the same (most unexpected by the way!) for 3 very different systems (listed below):
Initial playback was dropping some frames, but didn't really look too bad; CPU is definitely working the hardest for this workflow
After changing two rather random things, all 3 systems could play this back with zero lost frames. Settings included: Memory: set so 8GB is available outside of Premiere Pro (default is 3GB), Sequence Setting: checked Max Render Quality box (default is off), and performed a "Render Audio" on the sequence (this takes less than one second and seems to help a bit).
Rather interestingly, this particular workflow actually seemed to work a bit better when MPE was set to software only (GPU off)
Systems tested included (all running CC 2014):
    3 year old x58 6-cor i7-970 with SSD array, 24GB RAM, GTX 480
2x Xeon e5-2687w, 128GB RAM, GTX Titan, single Samsung 830 SSD for everything (OS/Programs/media/projects/swap/cache/scratch)
1x Xeon e5-2687w v2, 64GB RAM, SSD array, GTX Titan
    Questions:
What version of Premiere Pro are you using?
How many dropped frames are you getting when you just playback this clip?
Have you ever tried doing just a small project with just this clip (at 2500%)?
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Better results than you could achieve in a real-time onlining suite?

Another for Zeb and anyone else who cares about color. HD for Indies (http://www.hdforindies.com/) reviews The DV Rebel's Guide by Stu Maschwitz. In a section, "Why so AE centric when such a pain - why not do in FCP?", Mike Curtis pseudo-interviews Stu, who says "When onlining, the rule is the polar opposite: no amount of render time is too much to endure in the name of increased image quality. I detail some techniques for extracting every last bit of luminance range from your video source, removing color subsampling artifacts (without plug-ins), and a complete pipeline for multiple digital masters. If you follow these guidelines you can actually achieve better results than you could in an expensive real-time onlining suite."
He is talking about the poor boy with a three year old laptop for whom long render times don't cost too much. Sounds like me.
    Comment?

I have a valid example data file attached to this thread.
    If you open BEXTEST.bin in a hex-editor of your choice, you'll see the BEXUS as 42 45 58 55 53 and then the time as 00 28 09 etc.
I couldn't get Joe Guo's VI to work. It doesn't count packages correctly, and the time is not displayed correctly either.
The file was saved using a straight save to file VI.
The data is from actual launching area tests performed a few mintues ago. The time displayed is "On time" e.g. how long the gondola has been powered up.
I have a spare T-junction, so I can hook into the balloon real-time data as we fly, in case anyone care to see if they can figure out why the latest version of Joe Guo's program is not displaying correctly.
    I will monitor this
thread during and after flight to see if anyone can make it in time!
    Thanks for the great effort!!

  • AE CS6: How to Ram preview or playback in smooth real-time everytime?

    Hi guys,
I would  like to know how to Ram preview or playback in smooth real-time everytime? I'm using a videohive template and adding in my footages to the media holder comps. The AE template is complex I guess.
Hee's the problem, everytime I make a change to text, add a footage replacement or make any change at all, I have to completely render and wait a long time to see my final product in "Real-time"/smooth. Is there someway that I can render out the whole thing once and even though I make a change the entire video will play smoothly without rendering time?
    PC Specs:
    HP 510t
    Windows 8 Pro x64 bit
    16GB Ram
    i7 2600 CPU @3.4 GHz
    GTX 660Ti

Proxies don't affect rendering beyond the point of reducing the resolution and thus the nuimer of pixels that need to be processed, but since the retain the effect properties at full resolution, e.g. a large blur still renders just as slow. They are more a means of reducing file I/O bandwidth while working really.... As I said, the best way to optimize this would probably be to restructure the project so parts that don't change reside in separate pre-compositions and can use the disk cache.

  • Solaris 10 real-time support on a uniprocessor system

    Hello,
I've read older documentation stating that Solaris has real-time support on a dual processor system. One of the CPUs is dedicated to the real time tasks. I was wondering
if this is an absolute requirement. Could one use Solaris 10 as a real-time OS on a uni-processor system?
    Thanks for your help.
    Stephen

    Stephen,
Solaris is capable of running processes in real-time mode on either a uni- or multiprocessor machine. real-time mode is implemented at the scheduler level, with RT class processes layered on top of TS/IA and SYS processes. This is mostly implemented through priority levels (0-59 for TS/IA, 60-99 for SYS, 100-159 for RT [if used]). For details regarding this, pls. see priocntl(1).
Be aware of a couple of gotchas, though:
    - RT processes will stay at their priority level, no matter what.
    - They will not be subject to time-sliced scheduling (in fact, they won't be scheduled in normal ways, since the scheduler itself runs at SYS priority level!)
    - They'll not stop running until they either voluntarily give up the CPU by means of something like swtch(), or block on a resource, or any process with an even higher priority becomes runnable.
In short, they might render your system more or less inoperable, if used without caution.
Consider it a BAD idea to put your shell into RT mode - and definitely do NOT try to run largely computational tasks (PI to the nth position, as an example) in RT mode, just to get some more performance out of your box! It won't work as you expect it.
RT is meant to run fairly short routines that require (almost ) deterministic response - such as acting on a signal from a sensor on an assembly line. It's definitely not a way to obtain better response times or outperform your peers.
Solaris, as any UNIX, is not an outright RT system - it just has some stuff built into it that could help in running it as if it were one.
Consider well what you're about to do, then reconsider ... ;) Don't say you haven't been warned.
    HIH, kind regards,
    - Tom

  • After Effects will not RAM Preview in real time

Recently I have started working on a new project and can't work on it because my RAM Previews are not in real time anymore. I have only had this problem since I started this project a few days ago. Every other project I have done I've never had this problem before.
I have 10 GB of ram allocated to After Effects, my clips are in 59.94 fps which I have set the composition to as well. When I ram preview it tells me 50.019/59.94 I know what this mean, I understand it's telling me to change my composition's frame rate to 50 frames, however if I do this then music plays too slow. Right now my problem is that the clips aren't playing fast enough for me to see if my editing and time syncing is acurate. When I render the video everything is synced up fine but this is making my editing very inconvenient and I would like a fix please. I tried: Clearing my disk and media cache, unchecking "render multiple frames at once", taking off all effects on the clips, using different clips, AND even reinstalling After Effects CS6 but nothing has worked. I really badly need a fix to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

    > The clips are in 59.94 frames, so the composition is in 59.94 frames. If when I upload to the internet it goes down in frame rate so be it.
You are misunderstanding the typical video workflow.
Composition setting are supposed to match the characteristics of the intended output, not necessarily the characteristics of the imported footage. This is how you ensure that what you preview exactly matches what you output and what your viewers will see. Consider, also, that most compositions use assets with many different frame rates, sizes, etc.
    > I do have a large monitor but I've been using this monitor since December and haven't had a problem with it until now.
Great. But you're having a problem now. And it's because of a bottleneck somewhere between your RAM and drawing the pixels to the screen. One more reason that this might be happening is that you're running a GPU-heavy application; note that web browsers can also be GPU hogs these days.

  • Real time playing

What does real time playing means and my videos also shows up as unrendered, what does that mean?

Frames will be dropped if your computer is not powerful enough.
    Turn off the warning window.
It doesn't matter whether frames are dropped when you are playing back.
It would matter if they were dropped when you make a DVD etc. That is why you render everything before you make a DVD or Print back to DV Tape.
Which version of FCE are you using ?

  • Can't figure out how to get real time.

JUST got FCE 4.0, I've been a long time Sony Vegas user, so allot of this is really new to me.
What I can't figure out is, why I have to render my project to view it on the canvas? I haven't even applied any FX to the clip and I still can't watch it in real time. I've tried .mov and .m4v with the same results.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks gang
    ~max

Some aspect of the exported QuickTime file doesn't match the sequence settings you've chosen in your FCE Easy Setup. That's why rendering is needed.
If you exported a DV Stream from iMovie, that's part of the problem. A DV Stream blends the audio and video into a single multiplexed file; FCE separates audio and video.
I have no direct experience with AVCHD, so can't help you with those specifics. Suffice it to say that if your imported QuickTime files match your sequence settings, you won't have to render them.

  • Real time task synchronization

I am using LabVIEW real time and I want to "trigger" a lower priority task at the end of the highest priority task if it isn't already done. What is the best solution ? I have read somewhere on NI site that the synchronisation palette doesn't guarantee determinism but unfortunately the real time fifos do not provide a blocking read call. Is there a potential real time problem when using occurences ? I would just like a simple deterministic mechanism to wake up a task if it isn't already awake.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Does a capture card improve real time functions?

I am reading posts regarding capture cards and i figured for DV material, capture card may not be necessary as firewire is there. but does capture cards improve the effeciency of the machine /CPU , does it render faster and play more real time effects?
    thanks
    sameer

The Aurora is a Standard Definition card and the Decklink is an HD card. I don't have them both installed at the same time...I put in what I need. Right now I am working with HD so I have the decklink card in.
AJA I/O is a standard definition "solution." I say solution because it isn't a capture card per se, but rather an external box that captures SD signals (SDI, Component, Composite) and inputs them into FCP via a firewire connection to the computer. This allows it to be used on multiple machines easily. The Kona series are High Def cards that need to be installed in the PCI slots of your computer.
What is my workflow with the DSR-11? Probably the same as you. DV/NTSC Easy Setup, then connect it to the computer via firewire and capture. When I am done, I output back to tape. What else is there to do with this?
Codecs? DV, 8-bit uncompressed SD, DCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD. Depends on the project I am working on and how it was shot.
10-bit uncompressed DV? DV by nature is compressed 5:1 when it is recorded to tape. When you capture that via firewire from your DSR-11 deck, you are capturing it at the highest possible quality. It is simply a file transfer. Now, if you were delivering on DV then you don't need a capture card. But if you were, say, needing to deliver a digibeta master, or betasp, then you'd need a capture card to output to that format...uprezzing the DV footage to 8-bit uncompressed (better color space, beter codec for graphics and stils) and output. 10-bit is overkill for DV.
My workflow depends on the footage I am given and the format I need to master to. My HD workflow differs greatly from my DV workflow, which differs from my SD Uncompressed workflow. To go into detail of each would mean writing an article, and I am too busy editing to do that.
