Real World Camera Raw CS4 File Access

Hi,
I recently purchased a copy of Jeff Schewe's Camera Raw book for CS4. One reason among many that I purchased the book was to work through the example files in the book that are available on the website.
For some reason I am having trouble downloading the files. The problem I am experiencing is an access problem. When asked for the user name and password I can get to the page where the downloadable files are located. But once there, when I go to download individual files it keeps aksing me for the login information and even though I am providing the same login information, it denies me access.
I left two emails for the website sponsor but received no reply. Has anyone else had this problem and if so do you know the solution to getting passed this obstace?
Thanks,
John Arnold

The download column has *two* links for all but two of the image items. There is a graphic with DNG, that appears for each item, and under the graphics are descriptive texts such as "19.14 MB zipped DNG file." I've found that clicking on the text, not the graphic above the text, will work. Sometimes I still get the login panel. I click Cancel to the login panel and am able to continue with the dialog.
Net: Click on the text in the download column, not the DNG graphic.
The graphic and text links for action downloads are the same, as are the first image download (_MG_4472) and VB7J979.
This experience on WinXP using Firefox 3.

  • Real World Camera Raw download files?

I was able to download only the first of the files for Jeff Schewe's book, and then the website asked me to reenter the login and password again.  I entered the same ones that allowed me to download the first file and now it does not recognize them?  Anyone else have the same problemor an answer?  Perhaps Jeff can help me out here.

    Which edition of the book?
The current RWCRCS4 login is different than the old RWCRCS3 book. As for the CS4 book, I just double checked and the login and password from the book works...try purging your browser cache.

    Folks,
Just a quick ping to let you know that Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS3 is shipping. I got my copy today (but hey, I'm the co-author, I'm supposed to get mine early).
    :~)
I've done a story on PhotoshopNews.com about the book shipping and a feature story about the printing of the book.

    > but the part about DNG has convinced me to dive deeper in it and give it a go
When working in a Bridge/Camera Raw/Photoshop workflow, I tend to ingest the actual native raw files, do initial selects and gross edits and basic metadata work via templates and THEN do the conversion to DNG. I'll use the DNG as my working files and the original raws as an archive. I tend to do this more with studio shoots. I tend to use Lightroom when I'm on the road.
When working in Lightroom first, I tend to ingest and convert to DNG upon ingestion (when in the road working on a laptop) while using the backup copyusually working on a pair of external FW drives one for working DNG files and 1 for BU of the original raws. Then, when I get back to the studio I make sure I write to XMP and export the new shoot as a catalog and import into my studio copy of Lightroom. Then I'll also cache the newly imported images in Bridge as well so I can get at the image either in Bridge or Lightroom.
It's a bit of a chore now since I do work in Camera Raw a lot (well, DOH, I had to to do the book!) but I also keep all my digital files in a Lightroom catalog which is now up to about 74K...
Then, depending on what I'll need to do, I'll either work out of LR or Bridge/Camera Raw...
If I'm doing a high-end final print, I generally process out of Camera Raw as a Smart Object and stack multiple layers of CR processed images...if I'm working on a batch of images I'll work out of Lightroom since the workflow seems to suit me better.
In either event, I've found DNG to be better than native raws with sidecar files.

  • Confused over saving files in Bridge or Camera Raw CS4

I'm a little confused the way Bridge and Camera Raw saves files that have been adjusted. For example, when I took a photo and just applied a crop to it, I clicked on "save image" in camera raw, set up a new folder and new file name. I clicked on ok expecting to see the uncropped photo in the original source folder. What I saw was the cropped photo under the original file name.
Ultimately I found the original file by looking through explorer. I guess my question is, Is there a tutorial that explains the way Bridge/Camera Raw saves files?
    Appreciate the help

The changes applied by Camera Raw are saved as metadata, a few lines of code added to the file or to a separate XML file. If you want to save the changes done by Camera Raw then simply click on Done, the Save button will save a copy, not the current changes back onto the original file.
Check out the section on Camera Raw from the Help files:

  • I just found an error in the file name for my Camera Raw Cache file.  How do I correct it?

I just found an error in the file name for my camera raw cache file.  The error is in my username.  I don't know how to correct the error or if I should just leave it.  I'm not sure where my cache file is stored on my computer.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

Since you are on a Mac if when you first set up your account you left out the i in Wilson nothing you do will change that. The REAL account name will always be alicewlson. Once an account is created you can't actually change the name of it. You can change the name that is displayed but not the REAL account name.
Simplest thing to do is stop worrying about it. Everything is as it should be, that is except Wilson being spelled without the i.

When I searched finder for "alicewlson" I found a long list of files like this:

I believe I made the error in my user name when I first got my computer a year ago. I then corrected it under my user name but not in my Lightroom files. I also looked for files with a .lrdata extension and didn't find any.

  • IPhoto '09 not importing Camera Raw (.CR2) files

Recently purchased a new Mac Pro and tried to import my Camera Raw files from a supported camera. iPhoto refuses to import (unrecognized file format) files. Does anyone know the solution? I have over 1,700 camera raw (.CR2) files I need to import.

    Larry,
Cameras were Canon 20D and 50D. Until yesterday both were using the sRAW color space - switched them to Adobe RAW today. Problem was the 1,700 pictures with sRAW colorspace taken over the past few years - no issue importing into Adobe Photoshop CS4 (not surprising at it uses its own libraries), problem was only with iPhoto. I had what iPhoto reported as the latest update to Camera Raw, however when I browsed the Apple support pages I found v3.0 which I installed. That fixed the problem as it now has sRAW support for Canon cameras.
Only issue that remains is importing of DNG formatted pictures. iPhoto will not import those, which is hard to understand as it is becoming the defacto cross platform format for RAW files.
I don't recall having this issue on my older MacBook using an older version of iPhoto and older libraries...
Anyway, good news is that v3.0 fixed the problem.
    Thanks.

  • Camera Raw CS4 Canon Rebel T3i update?

Is there an update to Camera Raw (CS4!) for the Canon EOS Rebel T3i?
Or, is there an equivelant method for opening CR2 files in PS CS4?
Can I update to Camera Raw 6.4.1 (which is when it started support for the Canon Rebel T3i) with CS4?

Once a new verson of PS comes out camera raw is not updated, and the old version is not suppported.
Also, you have to stay with the ACR for each version, which is one number higher than the PS version.  So for CS4 you have to stay with ACR 5.x
You options are to upgrade to current version so you can use ACR 7.x or download the free current DNG converter.  Currently the DNG converter is 7.1 which is the same as ACR 7.1.

  • Can't open Camera Raw (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3?

I can't seem to open Camera Raw CR2 files in Photoshop CS3, my CameraRaw plug in version says it's 4.6 - any help appreciated.

Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.

  • Where do I find the Camera Raw settings file?

I've been running Creative Suite 3 on a MacBook Pro. I just bought a Mac Pro so got my disks off the shelf to install on the new machine. That's when I found I have to deactive the programmes on the laptop in order to install them on the tower. (Which strikes me as outrageously restrictive. How many people work on a tower at home and a laptop for the road?)
Having gone throught the deactivation/activation process, I opened Photoshop to process some NEF files, and then remembered that my Camera Raw settings were somewhere on the laptop - but where ??? I assume there must be a file somewhere, but have not so far been able to find it.
    Any ideas gratefully received.
    Thanks

By "Camera Raw Settings file", I take it that you are looking for the develop settings for each raw file. These settings can be stored in two ways. The first and most common method is to store them as sidecar *.xmp files in the same directory as the NEFs. The other method is to store them in a centrally located Camera Raw database. One can change these methods via the Edit Preferences menu of either Photoshop or Camera Raw. Further information is here:

  • Camera Raw .CR2 file download failure from new Canon650D

I have the new model Canon650D and cannot download Camera Raw CR2 files into Photoshop Elements 10. I get a "program error" message on screen. I have tried converting to DNG files but get same error message. I have downloaded latest upgrades for Camera Raw plug-ins in Adobe Application Manager and evidently have the latest 6.7 version available. Is there a later upgrade or do I have to wait until Adobe catch up?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) Try a differnt download (7.3 the latest) if DNG did not work before.
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • ACR 5.6 won't install (XP) ?get camera raw.8bi file to install manually

ACR 5.6 won't install on my XP 32-bit using the .exe installer.
Is there an option to get the camera raw.8bi file to install manually somnewhere?  Have the Canon 7D and would like to be able to use the Adobe converter.

To accomplish a manual install on Windows you can copy and rename the file:
    your-unzip-location-for-ACR56RC1\extensions\AdobeCameraRaw5.0All-121109114152\Assets\1003
to camera raw.8bi and put it in the directory previously mentioned.  The clue this is the right file is that it is about the right size as the existing Camera RAW.8bi but slightly larger.
What you can't install by this procedure are all the camera-specific profiles for newly supported cameras in this version.  You would probably need to install the LR 2.6 RC or maybe the DNG Converter 5.6 RC to get those.  For your 7D these would be the ones beyond the Beta that ACR 5.5 had.

    gegjr wrote:
When I selected "Save Image" there is an option to select the size of the JPEG preview. Is there anyway to extract the JPEG and does the JPEG contain the adjustments that were made to the Raw image?
The "Save image" command just saves (really converts) the original raw into another raw format : the DNG format created by Adobe to get a universal raw format instead of a specific raw format for each camera in the range of each camera manufacters... Using that feature is your choice.
And what you see in the bottom line : 8 bits or 16 bits has nothing to do with a preview, it is the choice of 'color depth' for the image the converters sends to the editor.
So, your choice is either :
    - to click 'Done' which saves the settings of your conversion (white balance, exposure, clarity...) to a very small 'sidecar' file of the xmp type
    - to 'Open' in the editor where you can work with all features of the editor (which include saving the output file in any format - jpeg - psd - tiff - png...

  • How to open Camera RAW (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3 and CS4? (Mac)

I have a Canon 7D. I prefer to shoot in raw format, but the CR2 files cannot be opened by either Photoshop CS3 on my Mac in the office OR by Photoshop CS4 on my iMac at home.
I have tried dowloading the Adobe DNG Coverter and Camera Raw 4.6 update (which is SUPPOSEDLY intended to work for CS3) and followed the instructions to replace the plug-in. STILL a no-go. CS3 STILL tells me "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
What gives? Does anyone know of a way to get CR2 files to open in Photoshop CS3 or CS4? (A way that actually works?) Because Adobe's plug-in update doesn't seem to do it, and Canon's "fine-grain" editing controls for raw images is pretty lack-luster.
    Thanks (in advance)!

  • Camera Raw CS4 5.2 Update/Panasonic LX5 .RW2 Files Won't Open

Hi, recently purchased a Panasonic LX5 that shoots raw using the .rw2 extension. Tried importing into Camera Raw via Bridge, but couldn't get it to open. Read around and discovered that Raw needs to be manually updated to 5.2 and some profiles need to be installed (which I've done). Went to the Adobe download section and followed the directions for installing on a mac (OS 10.6.8) - when I open up other files it reads Camera Raw 5.2 at the top. However, the Panasonic LX5 files still won't open. Did some more searching and I've read that everything from the "files will open without problem" to "they need to be converted using a .DNG converter." So, I'm confused; am I doing something wrong? Is there an additional step I'm missing to the 5.2 update? Do I just need to download the .DNG converter and use that? Any help is appreciated.
    I'm on:
    Mac 10.6.8
    Running CS4

You should probably update all the way to Camera Raw 5.7, which was the latest update for Photoshop CS4.

  • Updated Camera Raw CS4 Plugin (no plugin folder??)

I am trying to install the updated SC4 Camera Raw Plugin but I can't find the Plugin folder referred to in the following directions:
    5. Navigate to:(Please read directory carefully)
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
    6. Copy the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    7. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
What can I do about this?  Is there somewhere else I can stick the Plugin so that it works?

What OS? And no, there is no other place to put the Camera Raw plug-in. Note, the Library in this case is the root Library, not the User level Library.
