JSFL or SWF Panels and the ActionScript Editor
Howdy, I'm hoping to be able to write JSFL commands or make swf panels for the Flash IDE that will work with the ActionScript Editor. Mind you, not the ActionScipt panel that is open with a .fla, but with the Flash text Editor that edits .as files directly. I've been able to get it going with the actions panel, but don't know if it's possible with the .as editor. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
Essentially I'm hoping to create a panel that generates getters/setters automagically, like FlashBuilder does, but with some additional features, like ASDoc commenting etc. Also, I want to have it generate empty functions for any event listener callbacks as I code the listeners.
Thanks in advance!
-TedNever heard of that, and not sure if the hot fix addresses that, but make sure you have it - your Flash version should be 10.0.2 in Help > About

Ringtone Editor release?
Maybe someone from Apple will see this that knows the answer. iTunes 7.4 has been released and I have upgraded to it already on my iBook. I just purchased an iPhone yesterday and have totally converted all of my life from my Treo to the iPhone very simply. Love it love it love it!!!!!! But...iTunes 7 is now supposed to have a ringtone editor so you can use parts of mp3 songs for your iPhone ring. It looks like they either have to have a little bell next to them in your already purchased list or you need to purchase one that does. However, how do you search for compatible music to do that with in iTunes and when will that editor be released and incorporated in 7?
Coming soon.

Detrimental flash CC actionscript editor changes
my company (one of the biggest advertising agencies in the world) just upgraded to CC from CS6. so i admit it is new to me, if anybody can point out the new way to do these things that i see as problems i would appreciate it.
in actionscript window (either on timeline or in .as file):
1. what happened to blue checkmark upper right corner to validate code? is running the debugger the only way to do it now? that certainly is much less efficient.
2. as2 no longer supported. i am constantly receiving legacy files to update or base new swfs on. i see on another thread that i can download the cs6 version (because the cc install blows away the old version, argh), once they get the whole enterprise ID thing straightened out. meanwhile, sorry clients, can't work on that today. i hate as2 and never use it on my own, but now i have to have 2 versions of flash and switch between them?
3. can i no longer "pin" an actionscript frame? once again, something incredibly useful.
in general:
1. bmps no longer work. if i try to import a bmp, flash will say error importing file. or it won't even show up in the import dialog as an importable format. if i copy over a movieclip from another file that has a bmp in it, my fla will refuse to save.
2. movie explorer is gone. incredibly useful for looking through the structure of an .fla and finding movieclips or bits of code, use that constantly. now it is gone.
3. bandwidth profiler is gone? holy moley in banner world we need this every time we publish. it is one of the most important tools where filesize is crucial. why why why get rid of it?
i'm sure i will have more examples as the week goes on.
Message was edited by: glenn grantHmm, my classes live in a subfolder of where my fla files live. (This sub folder again is divided into further folders to organise the code)
I haven't actually setup any class paths. (default class path is set to .)
If I set the default class path to the folder where my code lives I get a ton of errors telling my that my package names don't reflect the location of my files.
edit: That was a mistake on my side. I've set the class path to where my code lives and made sure the package names still match up.
Unfortunately it still ignores my base class (which lives in a sub folder of the defined class path) -

I am hoping if I upgrade from 8GB ram to 16GB this will help FlashBuilder publish a release version. I assumed since the Debug Version worked great the release would as well ...lesson learned. -
Flash 8 Actionscript Tutorial problem
I have followed the following instructions to the letter
(several times) but the button script won't activate a URL and I
get an error message from Flash 8 which I'll show after this:
1.Select the invisible button on the Stage.
Open the Property inspector (Window > Properties), and
find the Instance Name text box in the Property inspector.
Type inv_btn into the Instance Name text box.
Select Insert > Timeline > Layer to insert a new layer,
and then rename the new layer to actions.
Open the Actions panel (Window > Actions), and then select
Frame 1 of the actions layer.
Type the following ActionScript into the script pane (the
editable text field) in the Actions panel:
inv_btn.onRelease = function(){
getURL("
http://gnome.deseloper.com",
"_blank");
This does not work. Here is the error message:
**Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=button, frame=1:Line 1:
Statement must appear within on handler
inv_btn.onRelease = function(){
As this script was copied directly from the tutorial text,
and I have never scripted anything before, I am at a loss to
explain this or how to make it work. Can anyone help me?I'll approach this from the opposite end... replace the code
you have with:
on(release){
getURL("
http://gnome.deseloper.com",
"_blank");
If that works, then the problem is that you didn't put the
code where the instructions you show indicated you should. For what
you did, the code I just showed is appropriate (though not a good
practice because it is hidden from easy review). It's better to
keep your code in the timeline where it can be easily found.
You will have selected the button and then typed the code in
the actionscript editor. Instead, you need to
click on the frame in the (separate) actions layer in the
main timeline that you should have made already, not the button
layer, and then place that code from the tutorial in the
actionscript editor window. -
ActionScript syntax errors are not detection with Flash Builder 4
I encountered a serious bug with Flash Builder 4, it is not showing ActionScript syntax error within an ActionScript class. How shall I fix this.
Best Regards,Hi Mayank,
Please find the further details below:
Steps to Reproduce the bug:
1. Create a Flex Project (say Test for example)
2. Created a new ActionScript Class ABC.as within the Flex Project.
on typing the following code (and even after saving it)
package123 {
public1234 class ABC {
}blahblah123...
Expeteded Behavior:
ActionScript Editor should report an syntax errors with the following code.
Present Beharvior
no syntax error is detected. This is a regression in Flash Builder 4 as Flex Builder 3 detects ActionScript syntax error instantly (while typing).

Flash 9 and 10 .as editor slow in Vista/7
I've posted an observation about this here that contains some tests about the CPU usage of the ActionScript editor in Flash 10.0.2. The problem is that the editor is slower than any editor I have used, including NetBeans which has the most active code coloring and code hints I have seen. And also, it's five times slower in Vista/7 compared to XP even when Aero is turned off. And I also have turned off all code hints and code coloring. Writing a quote letter (" or ') is especially slow and require a whopping 2Ghz (i.e. takes one second on my PC) in Vista, in a large .as file (500 rows or more), according to my estimates.
No other editor I have used (for example Visual Studio, DreamWeaver 8, TextPad or NetBeans) has ever come close to those numbers. Also, if all code hints and code colorings are turned off it should be as fast as Notepad, even for the quote letters which cause no coloring or other change in the document then. So it should take perhaps 2Mhz to write a quote letter, not 2Ghz.
I'm a long time C++, Java, ActionScript, Javascript etc developer and would love to know what your code is doing. Can an Adobe developer explain what the Flash text editor is doing and why it's five times more CPU intensive in Vista/7 compared to XP? (See the link in the first sentence of this message for more information.)
Best Regards

Adding actionscript to a button?
For some reason, my actionscript on my button is not working.
I did a button in Photoshop, imported into the library, dragged it
onto the stage and what it does is fade in and then stays normal,
which I have converted into a button. But now when I click that
button and add actionscript:
"on (release) {
getURL("
http://www.google.com");
It doesn't work for some reason. =/
my problem:
http://mu.thesixthdesign.com/banner_backupExact.html
Try clicking 'free trial' or demo'; I haven't added any
actionscript to most of the other buttons yet, since it's not
working. >_<
Any help is super appreciated.Adriennee wrote:

Action looks a OK.
Perhaps you apply it after you apply the tween ?
If you add action after you add the tween, the action only
appear
on first or last frame of the tween, not throughout.
Try to add an action first than apply the tween.
Other than that... not sure, it all looks ok.
Perhaps you could upload it somewhere so we can check out the
source
file.

So, I'm trying to get into Flash development. I'm running
into what seems like a very simple problem - so simple no resources
I can find mention what I'm experiencing as a problem.
I've got a total of 6 .swf files - a master.swf, a
splash.swf, and four content swfs - bulletin, audio, evidence, and
connections. I've created a movie clip loader on the master.swf
that launches the splash.swf into level 5. Works like a charm.
Now on splash.swf I have four buttons - each one in essence
being a link to one of the four content sections with the intent
that pushing the button would load the appropriate swf onto level 5
thus over-writing the splash and allowing me to move on with my
day. So for each button I have added the ActionScript:
on (release) {
loadMovie ("nameofthefile.swf", 5);
I mean, this is straight out of the Script Assist panel - why
doesn't it work? I've checked the help file in flash, and it
appears that my buttons should work - they just don't. What am I
missing?I think you need to use loadMovieNum( ) if you plan on
loading into levels. And I don't think you need the path because
the level knows where it is.
Also, if your swfs and the html page (I assume it is in an
html page) are in different folders, the path to all external
assets will be from the html page, not the calling swf(s).
Also one other note, please don't edit your posts. A lot of
people (and by that I mean several of the people who answer the
most questions around here) use newsreaders to follow the forum.
They will not see your edits. So just add an additional
post. -
Is there a way to change the line-endings used by the Flash Professional AS editor?
The Flash ActionScript editor seems to save files on the Mac with an arcane CR (carriage-return) line-ending, instead of using LF or CRLF.
This messes up with my version-control system (git) which doesn't support files with such line-endings.
Is there any way to make the ActionScript save with another line-ending? I wouldn't mind editing some config files manually if that's what it takes.hide the axis and make your own using one single row table for the x-axis and a single column table for the y-axis

Hello
When I'm typing code in the actionscript editor (Flash CS3)
after some moments/seconds
the editfield loses focus. So I have to click (again) in de
editfield to put code in it.
And then, after 3 or 4 seconds I have to click again because
my typing does go somewhere
This is crazy !
The problem never accurd in the previous Flash version.
Thanks for any help !on mouseup or click, if the mouse is down, you can use:
stage.focus=outputText;
if the mouse isn't down, you can don't need a listener to trigger the above.
