Realistic system requirements for Design Premium on MAC

Hi,
Can anyone give me some realistic system requirements for CS4 Design Premium? I am just about ripping my hair out with having to reboot several times a day because i'm running out of memory on my PC and am thinking about switching to MAC.
I am currently running a PC well above the recommended specs for Design Premium CS4 and it looks as though I will have to upgrade anyway. Designer friends tell me their MACs never require rebooting (but again i guess it depends on the MAC specs).
My questions are:
* If i buy a MAC, what would I need to buy to comfortably run Design Premium CS4 without any crashes?
* reading some of the other discussion threads in this forum it seems some products don't work/aren't supported by MAC? Of the Design Premium products which ones would I have issues with?
* Does anyone know what the deal is with switching the software licensing from Windows to Mac? (I heard you can only switch if you are upgrading which would mean I would have to wait until CS5 is released.)
Advice would be appreciated!!

I do use a few of the programs at once: Bridge + Photoshop + Illustrator + Indesign (actually, have learnt cannot run all of these at once but would love to!);
Dreamweaver + Fireworks (Fireworks constantly causes me headaches where files become locked and cannot be saved - all due to shortage of memory)
Usually run virus software - full scan weekly, so am pretty sure my system is clean.
Great idea about disabling Virus software - will ensure I unplug from modem first!! I will give that a go.

I am current running: 32 bit XP SP3, 3GHz processor and 3.25GB RAM with a 500GB hard drive of which 379GB is free.
I can't install more memory without going to a 64 bit operating system which would mean wiping the PC and reinstalling everything.
The advertised requirements are only 2GBHz processor and 1MB RAM. (perhaps this might work if only opening one program at a time????)
Also considering buying a MAC - I've had designers tell me they never have to reboot - guess it depends on their specs too. What are the disadvantages of a MAC over a PC?
Advice would be appreciated!!

How are the realistic system requirements for a complete development environment
under Forms 11g (Forms11g/Reports11g/Weblogic-Server) ?
From our experience there is a problem with the RAM-limitation of Windows 32 bit !
Is there anybody to exchange his experiences ...

The Oracle Solaris Studio 12.4 will officially support Oracle Linux 5,6 when it releases later this year.
Since Oracle Linux is based on RHEL, Oracle Solaris Studio should work on RHEL.
Support customers may report issues against RHEL and the Oracle Solaris Studio team will do its best to address these issues but fixes are not guaranteed.
Oracle Solaris Studio components such as compilers and command line tools do not require Java. If you install the product using the Oracle Solaris Studio Installer in non-interactive mode you can install the Solaris Studio product without having Java on your system though the installer will issue a warning message if Java is not found on the system. Alternately you can install the product using the tar file distribution if Java is not installed. If you install via the tar file, it is not possible to install patches later.

While not 'intended', it is indeed possible on a portable. Exigent circumstances required me to re-role an aging MacBook Pro 2.16 Intel Core Duo to act as a server on a temporary basis.
It boots just fine from an external drive running Server 10.6.8. I also believe that installation (while not recommended) is not actually blocked.
Tip for the top: just be sure to pull the battery out of the laptop (assuming that's possible) to avoid turning your battery into a grossly distended, non-functional brick... they were not designed to be left on charge permanently!

Buy the Snow Leopard retail installer (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA).
That will take you to 10.6.3.
If required you can then use the combo updater to get to the latest version, 10.6.8 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399)

System requirements v Optimized requirements for LR4 on a Mac

Likw many people I'm struggling with slow performance from LR4 (although in my case I'm using an older Mac Book 2ghz Intel Core Duo, old and slow!).
I read the basic system requirements for LR, and then came across an Adobe article with recommendations for optimising LR which stated this....
"Options that can help increase performance include:
64-bit, multiple-core processor (for best performance, up to six cores. The extra power is especially important if you use multiple or high-resolution monitors which require more power)."
If I undestand this correctly, that would exclude all laptop Mac's (which I need because I shoot on location), because they are only available as quad core machines?
I've also read that the Mac's can use Hperthreading on the i7 cores, efffectively getting double the amount of cores?
Am I still going to struggling with slow response times with a dual core laptop, anyone have experience with the i7 Dual core Mac Book Pro?

Are you really still running 10.6.3? you will need 10.6.5+ so do that and make a clone.
