Really confused on ingest procedures. Thought I had it down. Not so.
Okay. I really need to understand the basics of ingest before I obtain a comfort level and progress. I think I have been watching too many tutorials and I am really confused now.
My basics. I shoot everything on a JVC 700U in 720p 60. XDCAM EX. I take the card, insert it in the mac and transfer the files to my media drive (FW800) Then I import the files using file import ( not import from camera. ) I do not copy the files to the event folder. Question #1 ( very important ) Should I copy the files to the events folder? All that does is to duplicate the media. Question #2. Should I optimize the media? I suppose if you optimize the media then you HAVE to copy the media to the events folder, correct?
Now, after watching a Larry Jordan tutorial ( I think his are very good ) Larry uses the import from camera button even if the files reside on your media drive.
I am just so confused. What is the proper method?

Starting to like it...but, really confused concerning ingest. Need thoughts.
I have made the switch from 7 to X and will remain committed to X but I really need some help understanding bringing media in. First some background on my workflow and media type.
I shoot with the JVC 700U camera in 720p. The format is XDCAM EX at 35 mbps. I produce a football highlight program which is an hour in duration. Been doing this for over twenty years and have made a decent living at it. It is broadcast on local cable and streamed on the web.
Here is what I really need to understand before I can feel comfortable with X. I bring in the footage from an SDHC card. Do I optimize the media? Someone said that even if I check that box that FCP X will not transcode that media if it doesn't need to. Really confused on that. I have found that I should not analyze the media for shake. That takes forever! Now, If FCP X does not transcode, why is the file a ProRes 422 when I export the timeline? Confused again. And, that 422 master ofcourse is huge. I would really appreciate if I could get some folks help me on this.
Also, I used to export a reference movie in FCP 7. That made things quicker when encoding to H.264 file for the web using Compressor. No more ref movie?
Like I said earlier, the interface is starting to grow on me but I really need to fully understand the ingest process.

TomChecking the box for optimize media transcodes all imported media to ProRes 422. This is desirable if you have an underpowered machine or a lot of difficult to handle formats. Leaving the box unchecked will only transcode media that FCP X can't play natively.
In the first case, FCP X will allow you to work with the native files until the transcode is complete. Then it will seemlessly switch the links over to the Pro Res files. Transcoding takes place in the background but you'll be unable to quit FCP X until it's finished, or you suspend it. The only time it doesn't transcode is if the original file is already Pro Res.
When you export from FCP, you have several options. If you want a full raster master export, you can use the Export Movie option (CMD+E) to export as Pro Res or H264. If the project wasn't transcoded, you'll also have options for the codec that you were editing in. For example, if you were cutting DVCProHD footage, you would have that as an option in the Export Movie presets.
Otherwise, you can choose: Send to Compressor for all other compression formats. Send to Compressor creates a reference file and loads it automatically into Compressor. Then you can apply whatever preset you wish and transcode it. Then go back to Final Cut and continue editing.
Do not use the Export with Compressor Settings choice as it will tie up FCP X while it's transcoding (unless you hit the Send to Compressor button in which case it's the same as the above choice). -
The above info re the Flashback removal tool confuses me. I thought this trojan horse affected those who had Java (JRE) up and running i.e.,Safari security Java checkbox enabled. I also believed this Trojan horse also affected those using Snow Leopard. Clarify please.
There are several variants of the trojan. The first ones were released as installers for Adobe Flash and therefore did not require you to have Java on your system. Later variants took advantage of a Java vulnerability and could install themselves by simply visiting a rogue Web site. Therefore, even without Java installed if you had run a rogue updater for Adobe Flash or Reader, then you might have installed the trojan.
The trojan also affects Snow Leopard and prior versions of OS X (so far the code is known to be intel-only, but this is unconfirmed), but Apple has only issued patches for supported versions of the OS (version 10.6 or later).
Apple's removal tools run in OS X 10.6 or later if you instlal the Java update, and the standalone removal tool is for Lion only. Why Apple does not offer options for other operating systems is beyond me, but that's the way of things. I unfortunately just got my IPhone 4s stolen.I thought I had the find my iPhone enabled but I didn't because I cannot locate the phone when I sign in ICloud.I have a password on the phone but i'm not sure if I turned on the option where the phone resets if you incorrectly put the password more than ten time. I immediately called my phone company (Verizon) and reported the phone stolen.So I know whoever took the phone cannot place calls or use the phone. But can they still access my data on the phone if they manage to unlock the phone? If so how can I erase all data on the phone so the thief can't access my personal information? is there any other way other than Find my IPhone to wipe off the data on the phone? I really don't want my personal information such as pictures, text messages, notes and social networks profile available to a stranger!!? Help please!!!

*Really confused* on how to install Vista 64 using BC
OK, so I'm now proud owner of a "Harpertown" model Mac Pro Quad Core 2.8, and I want to install Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on it. I have read that you can definitiely install this Windows OS on this model of Mac.
I have three components here – I've installed and upgraded to 10.5.3, and I have a copy of Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 in my Utilities folder. I just picked up a Vista Ultimate x64 full install disc (don't have the x32 disc). And now I'm downloading Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows Vista 64.
The thing is, I remember reading that I needed the 2.1 update to have the right drivers to install x64. But the 2.1 update is an exe file, meaning I need to have Windows installed already to use it.
Now I'm really confused – can somebody explain to me (or point me to a web page that does this) how to install an x64 version of Vista using Boot Camp? Do I need anything else other than BC Assistant 2.0, BC Update 2.1 for Windows Vista 64, and the Vista x64 full-install disc?

I was worried that the installation wouldn't work unless I had the correct drivers in place before I even started, but I guess that wasn't the case.
For anybody who runs across this message in a future search, I recommend the the Boot Camp Installation pdf, which cleared up a lot of confusion for me:

What I hadn't realized is that what's on the Mac side is Boot Camp Assistant and that Boot Camp proper is a Windows program. The Boot Camp 2.1 Update would be run after installing Boot Camp from the Leopard CD ("Step 3" in the above manual).
I really like Vista, BTW – its the first Windows OS where I actually like the look and feel of it ("look" and "feel" being one reason I generally stick with Mac OS), so thanks to Hatter for recommending it. Still sticking with Mac OS as my mainstay, but its really nice to have both. -

Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button

I thought I had a problem with my Ipad in which I didnt, so I backed up my Ipad and restored it, but now Some of my apps that I have purchased are not available only the free version, not the purchased version. I would have to purchase again and it is not backed up into my Icloud either ?
I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.

Thought I had it fixed, by iMac is still freezing sometimes on boot up
In an earlier post, I thought we had my iMac fixed but now it's still freezing up on boot up, occasionally.
Sometimes I'll just get a grey screen with no logo after the boot up chime, sometimes it'll take a good minute or two for my iMac to fully boot up, and sometimes it'll boot just fine.
Usually, when I get just the grey screen I have to use the Command-Control-Power button to reset the Mac just to boot.
Any ideas as to why? I've repaired the hard disk after the first time this happened and it found no errors.
I read my console log and there's nothing glaring out that looks like a massive error.
I have been getting the following errors, could they be the problem?
BootCacheControl: could not stop cache/fetch history: Cannot allocate memory
vmnet: Hub 1 does not exist, allocating memory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.As a follow up to this.
I booted from CD and ran disk utility. I repaired the disk and said everything was A-ok. I tried to repair disk permissions and it the progress bar froze a 1/3rd of the way in saying "1 minute remaining" and never moved after that.

I have .me and .mac email accounts on my iPhone 4. I thought I had successfully transitioned from MobileMe to iCloud, but something must be wrong. iCloud seems to work fine on my computer and, with the exception of two email accounts, seems to be fine on my phone. Can/should I delete the accounts on my phone and start over? It is somewhat of a nuisance to have two email accounts and double the amount of emails. The only thing different about the two iCloud accounts is the email addresses. Thanks.
Well, seems I managed to unscrew this...I deleted my iCloud mail account and reinstalled it on my phone. That got rid of the duplicate .me/.mac email accounts.

So i have an apple ipod touch 1st generation and it is not charging! It shows the charging sign but its taking a really long time to charge. Ive had it charging for at least 3 hours and it still says under 20% so can someone help me figure this out??

How do I setup permission to transfer files to the MacMini Server. I thought I had it setup to do such but apparently not as I get an error message that I don't have permission?
Both the Mac and Windows units we are usinghave connectivity to the MacMiniServer (on the same network) to open and edit files but cannot transfer new files to the MacMini. FileSharing is on. I went to File Sharing on the MacMini and added the appropriate users and checked FileSharing. Is there something else I needed to do?
