Really cool Website Effect

Hey all,
I ran across
this website yesterday.
Was wondering if anyone had the foggiest idea as to where to start
to achieve a card-flipping effect like this. I've seen some stuff
on page turning in 'Flash Hacks' but I think this brings it to a
whole other level.
I'm thinking it might have to do with backface culling, or
some sort of 3d rendering in actionscript, but the cards behave so
realistically, that I think it could be a tween as well...
Any ideas would be appreciated! If no ideas, just check it
out. It's really cool!
P

this looks to me like it was made in a 3D program and
exported as an image sequence.

  • How to make cool websites?

    I am learning flash.
How do i learn to make really cool websites like the ones on
    this page:
    http://www.bluegelmedia.com/templates_flash.htm
the tutorials i read are the basic ones on using tools. How
can i learn to make these awesome like websites?

    Here's how:
    1) Learn all the tools in Flash thoroughly, even the boring
ones you aren't interested in at first.
    2) Study lots of websites you like
    3) Look at lots of graphic design books
    4) Learn some basic principles of animation
    5) Experiment...a LOT!
Cool Flash sites are created by people with excellent design
sense and confident mastery of tools and ActionScript in Flash.
Your question is kind of like: I just bought a paintbrush, is there
a tutorial that will help me learn to paint like Monet?
You too can create cool Flash sites. But you need patience
and practice. Believe me, once you learn all of the tools in Flash,
and start learning even basic ActionScript, you'll be highly
motivated to experiment. In short time, you'll be addicted to Flash
and you'll be turning out things that no one else is doing. It may
be simple and crude at first, but the more you do it, the better
you'll get. By the time you get to this stage, you'll know which
directions you're interested in going, and you'll be able to seek
out books and tutorials and help on specific topics.

I'm not optimistic that this is an accurate count. Can you

Use tables, divs, or other HTML containers. Just not
    absolutely positioned
    containers like layers.

  • Looking for a cool text effect

    Hi guys and girls.
I am working on a doco of a tattoo artist.
I need a cool text effect for the intro.
Maybe something like dripping ink in a tattoo font.
Does anyone know where I can dind something like this?

I'd look first at creating the artwork in Illustrator or Photoshop. Maybe you could get your tattoo artist to sketch up a few samples. Then work on revealing the artwork, possibly on body parts using the same techniques used to reveal line drawings or signatures. There are a ton of tutorials available on that subject.
The other thing I'd do right away is work on a budget (time or time and money) for this part of your project. Opening titles can take a huge amount of time and just looking at your initial description and my suggestion I'd say there's at least 80 hours work in a modest title sequence with these techniques.

  • Is your portal layout really cool?

    Hi,
I am preparing a portal presentation and I would like to include some really cool examples of layout.
If you thing that your portal is cool, you can send me a screenshot with your portal welcome page. (please see my email in my profile)
If there are issues in showing company logos etc, please note and I will anonymize it.
As a "thank you bonus for your help", I will put all screenshots in a powerpoint and send it to back to all contributors who emailed me.
During my projects, I have seen some very impressive and some very unusual attempts in layout. I think this can be very interesting.
Please, do not misunderstand me. I don"t want to solicite portal graphics, I am curious about pushing the limits of portal design.
    Thanks
    hs

    Hi Holger,
I appreciate your attempt to collect cool portal layouts or themes.
Unfortunately I have no customized layout at hand.
Maybe the idea is worth a blog or a wiki page here at sdn. I thought very often about some kind of "portal theme contest".
Any more supporters here at sdn? Any comments from SAP?
    Greetings,
    Carsten
P.S: I'm very very interested in your resulting ppt. Maybe I will try to create a new portal layout just for you!

  • Cool Flash Effect

I've seen a cool effect on the BBC Radio 1 website
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/
where upon moving the mouse over an image, another image slides up
over the original, same dimensions etc.
Now what I want to do is to have the same thing, however I
want the sliding image to totally cover the original one and then
    have links available on it.
The premise is to update my portfolio of work so that all of
my websites are displayed and when someone moves their mouse over
the image, there will be this new image with a link to a case study
    of it.
Perhaps this can be accomplished in other ways but all help
    and advice is appreciated.
Thanks for your time in advance.

Can't find it, hover over every link and image and don't see
    any of above described

  • Magic Mouse: Eneloop Really More Cost Effective than Lithium?

Hi. Under heavy use, gaming or doing professional work for 16 hours a day at most is it really more environment friendly and cost effective to put Lithium disposable batteries like Everyready's Ultimate?
Supposing you used a calculated cost of having the Sanyo charger + four Sanyo Eneloops + trickle charge (although rechargeables can be charged many times which could last you decades. I think 80+ years. Having four Eneloops is realistic because, you need two extra Eneloops in the ready) vs. the Ultimate, how much would their cost be?
By the way, how long does Eneloop last if you use it heavily? The Lithium Ultimate performs so much better than alkaline (it's only at 94% after a month. The Advanced Alkaline was only at 3 weeks before it had to be replaced at 10% or risk having a leak if it's not replaced),
    Gbu,
    Alvin

For me, yes. Buying new batteries every few weeks got old. The eneloops are great and last about as long as the copper-tops I was using (which lasted about a month). I think I calculated saving money about the 5th month. B&H Photo has them for about $20.

  • Cool Website

Any idea what software this website www.parrot.com was built? It has the cool parralax scrolling buit in which to me is from Adobe Muse but if you resize the browser, you can see that it is responsive to the browser. Was all of this completed in Muse?

    Hi,
You can achieve the parallax scrolling with Muse. However, the responsive design is not possible with Muse at the moment.

  • Melodyne or Pitch Tool ( like in Cubase 5 ) would be REALLY  COOL!!!

Finally,Logic 9 came out. Well, sure Apple made another awesome DAW for us. No doubt Logic is really the best for MIDI and Audio workhouse for us. But I just noticed, why didn't they add a built in Pitch editing Tool like Cubase 5 has?? Well the Pitch correct and some pitch plug-ins work in Logic, but I just think that it'll be much easier for us to have them dragged and shift pitches on the fly ( like Melodyne plug-in ). Forgive me guys if I missed something in Logic to this situation, but other than the Flex time and other new features they added,a BUILT IN PITCH EDITOR would have been much COOLER_))
Just my opinion. What u think guys? Cubase 5 has that tool, why cant Apple make it happen in Logic then? ( don't get me wrong,I know Melodyne's exclusive only to Cuabse or Steinberg, does that mean Apple gave up looking for other companies with such awesome tools? ) _))
Untill that day comes,I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping Apple would something about this request or idea of mine ( I guess many of us thought of it too _)) CHEERS!!!
    Message was edited by: nxtlevel

I must add this,as I'm using Cubase AI4 for now ( because it integrates well with Motif XS ),I'm starting to see the difference between Logic and Cubase apps. I've used Logic for years now ( currently and STILL using Logic Studio ),but after using Cubase AI4 ( which by the way is inlcuded free with the Motif XS synth ),I'm beginning to have a thought on getting Cubase 5. I used to be a Nuendo-die-hard-user before_) But ever since my friend introduced me to Mac,logic is the way to go. For years I've been happy with using Logic, especially the logic Studio. But after all these years,it's REALLY SAD that Apple didn't thought of one simple thing that matters most to us : EASIER PITCH EDITING TOOLS. But then again,I guess we all have our own needs and say about certain things,if I can sing like Brian Mcknight,**** yeah,I wouldn't mind having a MELODYNE or some pitch editing stuff. Scary but makes sense : This is the downside of ALL DOWNSIDES that Apple had come up with Logic (( Aside from numerous BUGS on Logic Studio,a better and easier Pitch Editing tool would have been the more significant upgrades Logic 9 has made )...
Unless Apple do something about this, for me,Logic 9 would be a second thought upgrade . Again, these are just my opinion, nothing againts anybody who uses Logic_))
And by the way,Logic 9 supporting VST 3 plugins would really be nice and COOL too!!. If some of these things do come-true,**** YEAH,LET"S GO GET SOME LOGIC 9 PEOPLE!!! LOGIC 9 WOULD RULE THE DAW UNIVERSE!!!_)) Cheers!!

  • Cool reverb effect?

Hello, I've already asked a simlar question concerning automatted effect control in GB so sorry if im repeating myself.
Ive got a song with a really sustained vocal at the end. I want to increase the reverb on it as the note is held. It sounds really good when i just increase the reverb channel manually, so I was hoping there is some kind of plug in out there that does this sort of thing?
Maybe setting the rate the reverb increases or something?
    Thanks
    Hamburgler out.
Mac Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Again, no effect automation in GB.
What you can do is duplicate the track, put a heavy reverb on the second one and do a cross fade where you want the effect to come in.

  • Trying to do this cool hover effect with CSS only...

I've got 'img' thumbnails that are sometimes positioned
    absolutely,
sometimes relatively, but aren't individually contained in
    anything, like so
    <a href="#">
    <img src="image1.png" width="100" height="150" border="0"
    class="tn" />
    </a>
    <a href="#">
    <img src="image2.png" width="100" height="150" border="0"
    class="tn" />
    </a>
Now, I've already brought up the limitations of PNG on IE
    (namely, even if
you "fix" PNG support on IE, IE will flatten your alpha
    channels and strip
the individual pixels' transparency levels before overriding
    them with a
single common attribute). This limitation makes it impossible
    for me to do a
simple 90%-to-100% hover effect to "highlight" the thumbnail
    on mouseover.
Micha recommended placing normal a highlighted versions of
    the same
thumbnail inside and outside the viewport, and swapping them
    on mouseover.
However, that would double the amount of image data being
    sent to the user.
So what I thought to do, instead, is superpose a standalone
    PNG of a small
spotlight, OVER the original thumbnail, on hover. Because it
    would be the
same PNG being superposed over each thumb being hovered over,
    the amount of
image data being sent to the user wouldn't be all that
    different.
Would I need javascript for this, or can it be done with CSS
    only?
Again, it would be the same spotlight.png file being
    superposed on images on
mouseover, and it wouldn't be a big deal if the image bled
    over surrounding
images (it would actually make it look more real).
    Thanks.

  • Opening a really old After Effects Project

I had some work come through where I needed to revisit some AE v5.5 projects. But CS5.5 or CS5 wouldn't open them. I had to reinstall my AE v7.0 to open them. Then I used CS5.5 to open the AE 7.0 project. (And I would have been screwed if I was using Lion because there's no Rosetta to run AE 7).
I vaguely remember a chart showing what versions can open up what. I'm assuming this is a 64-bit issue?

I've never seen a chart, but each version of the Help document says what can open what.
Here are the relevant notes from After Effects CS5 and CS5.5 Help:
Note: After Effects CS5 can open and import After Effects projects created by After Effects 6.0 and later.
Note: After Effects CS5.5 can open and import After Effects projects created by After Effects 6.5 and later.
    > I'm assuming this is a 64-bit issue?
It's a development and testing issue. If we say that something works, we test the bejeezus out of it. If we attempted to keep project import back to After Effects 1.0 projects, we'd have to spend a lot of testing time (and some development time) on that, and that would keep us from developing and testing new features. And we know that the rare cases in which people do need to open very old projects can be dealt with by the workaround that you used.

  • Do they really use After Effects in movies?

I heard from a buddy yesterday that they use Adobe After Effects for high budget, theatre films!? I thought it was more low-end than that...guess I was wrong. Oh well... SHWEEEET if it's true. :)

After Effects is used in many feature films. It's used together with other tools to create and/or composite elements in a lot of visual-effects-heavy movies (like
    Sin City,
    Iron Man,
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow,
Stranger Than Fiction), but it's also used to composite together elements in movies that you don't think of as being visual-effects-heavy. The Emmy award winner for visual effects was
John Adams. Very little in the background in that movie was real. And that was done with After Effects and Photoshop. This year's Academy Award winner for animated short also used After Effects. And, of course, it's used for a
lot of title sequences and closing credit sequences.
