Really frustrating update failures. Slowed down my PC by 1000 times

Hello, I've been using windows 8 from its beta days. But after upgrading to windows 8.1, every major update seems to fail. I've also looked into the history and tried installing them manually but it fails after the stage "copying packages to the windows
update package". And if this isn't bad enough, my laptop takes about 20-25 minutes to shut down. It keeps showing "preparing updates, please don't turn off your computer".
I am getting really frustrated since there is nothing I can do about this. And this doesn't seem to be the first time, it happens every time there is a major update.
Also after this update failures, i seem to have other issues such as
Wifi stops working after 5 minutes of youtube streaming
chrome crashes more often than ever
performance in general has been absolutely awful
None of these happened before. Also I do not have any viruses or malwares.
Currently failed updates.
KB2887595
KB2919355
Should i just downgrade back to windows 7? Or is there a permanent solution to this problem.
Also when I install the update manually, the error says "The system cannot find the path specified"

Hi,
Are there any error code? please also check Windows\logs\cbs for the detailed information.
for KB 2919255, this is a known update , we call it Windows 8.1 update 1, you can refer to this link ans see if it can help you
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/install-latest-update-windows-8-1
You can also clear the software distribution folder, then install the updates again.
At the Command Prompt type the following commands one at a time:
net stop wuauserv   hit enter
net stop bits     hit enter
Now browse to the C:\Windows\Software Distribution folder and delete all the files and folders inside.
net start wuauserv     hit enter
net start bits    hit enter
Meanwhile, keep your windows uo to date before installing the two updates. KB 2919442 is the prerequisite to install KB 2919355

  • Update picture slows down

    Hi
I am trying to make a little robot that can draw a 2D map of the suroundings. (It uses a rotating distance sensor, like af radar)
I whant to use the picture-control, to draw in the information, so i can get a printable picture out. I have already created a "picture-radarbeam" that reprecents one meassurement in the picture, and it works just fine.
So, the problem is then i try to put the picture in a while-loop and i want the program to sketch the measurements all the time (I mean updating the picture canstantly). Short after it starts, its slows down dramaticly (It seams like it reamember all the preavues sketches, and sketch them all every time the picture updates.). I tried to solve the problem by write the pictue to a image-file, and then load it again to a picture-string, but that is also a very slow solution.
    Any sugestions?

Yes, the right way would be to NOT use a shift register and uncheck "erase first?"
This should work well assuming that all parts of the image are being overdrawn with new data as a new data arrives. That's why I wanted to see the code.

  • Why is TB re-syncing/re-load with GMail all messages each time I open TB? Slows down TB by much each time.

Why is TB re-syncing/re-load with GMail all messages each time I open TB?
It does slow down quite heavily. e.g. It takes almost 5 mins to just write a simple short email, since ''freezing'' at every 3-4 caracters.
All other programs on the computer work fine in the meantime, though. Including word processor. So it is really a TB issue.
Or is it a GMail issue, forcing download everytime a connection is created ?
I am on Win8.1 on an ASUS AiO.
    Thanks

IMAP mail accounts see a remote view of the server.
You subscribe to see server Folders.
Headers are downloaded and when you select to view an email, the emails are downloaded to a temp cache to enable quicker access to those emails, but upon exit Thunderbird the temp cache is lost, so you cannot read emails if offline. These emails are not stored on your computer.
If you synchronise subscribed folders, then a copy of the folder is downloaded to Thunderbird Profile folder and stored in an mbox file. This means you can read them even if offline.
However, the folder is set up to synchronise with the server when changes occur, so that your copy and the folder on the server are updated to be the same.
I would recomend that you do not allow folders to get too big as it would take longer to synch.
    more info on IMAP:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization
Can you see an 'All Mail' folder?
This is gmails copy of all your emails, so it is gmail Archive of your emails.
This folder can get huge. As it only shows you what you already have in other folders, it also doubles the size of your Profile and can take a while to download. It is recommended that you do not subscribe to see this folder.

  • Mac Mini very slow at 4 gig memory, upgrade to 16 still slows down but takes a longer time

I bought a Mac mini a year ago. With an i7 and i terabyte and it cam with only 4 gig of ram. It worked fine for a while and i installed some apps then it started to get very slow. seeing the colorful "hourglass " turn round and round quite a few times. Then i went to the activity monitor where it told me that the memory used was about 3.89 gigs. I purchased a memory cleaner app from thr app store which helped a bit.
Today i upgraded to 16 gig memory and bang my computer ripped. The activity manager said i was using 6 gigs of ram and had 9.8 remaining.
after being on the internet for a couple of hours and using Firefox with about ten tabs open the computer started to get very slow again.
I checked the activity manager and it read 6 gigs used and the cash read a whopping 9 gigs. Did not think i would need the memory cleaner any more but after doing a clean it worked better.
Why did i get a whopping 9 gigs in the cash ? which is what it read after my computer slowed down again.

You may want to post in the Mac Mini forum, this is the iMac forum. If you would like me to I will ask the moderator to move the thread.

  • My iPhone 5c has been buggy since the update, it slowed down ( a lot) and it can't connect to wifi as well. How do I fix this?

so I have an iPhone 5c bought last summer, so it's not even a year old. I have never had any problems with the wifi until a day ago. Yesterday I updated to ios8.2 and my pone became really slow and buggy. And it won't connect to the wifi. I checked on my tablet and the wifi works fine on there. How do I fix this problem?

What troubleshooting steps have you attempted to correct this issue? I have a 5s running iOS 8.2 and have not experienced any problems. User troubleshooting steps are restart, reset, restore from backup and restore as new. Make sure you make a backup of the device before attempting any troubleshooting. If you go through all of the steps, including restore as new and then test the device before adding any content back to it and it is still not functioning correctly, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple store to have the hardware checked. If it functions correctly when restored as new, then try restoring the backup again. If it acts up after that, then there is something corrupt in your backup file. Restore as new again and sync your content back manually.

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 update has slowed down my iMac and Macbook. Anyone else have this problem?

My iMac and Macbook were operating well until the Yosemite 10.10.2 update. Now, the wheel spins when I try to scroll down on pages, or when I try to move from screen to screen. Programs freeze up more often, needing to be forced to quit, or just crash altogether. Safari has been particularly affected. Both computers are only 6 months old. I close all other programs and Safari tabs, but this does not help.

I have come to dread OS X updates and I'll be careful about downloading them in the future.  I am becoming more and more disappointed in Apple as a whole. The last time I called Applecare for help was pointless. I learn more from forums like this.

  • As of iTunes 9.0.2 update computer slowing down to a hault.

Seeing if anyone else has this issue. Every few minutes all programs just lock up, no particular one and iTunes doesn't have to be running but it started immediately after installing iTunes 9. Driving me crazy.

I've had the same trouble since installing 9.0 (now running 9.0.2 (25)) Everything is slowed in spurts. If I add any files to iTunes, or add artwork to an album, it takes forever. I can't even change the titles of a track without slowing everything. Using Activity Monitor, there's not a memory concern, but iTunes goes red (not responding) for blocks of time before it re-appears. In fact, when iTunes is adding artwork, it (and Safari) are often missing from the Activity Monitor list, even though both are running. Immediately after installing 9.0, I actually purchased new External drives, bought and installed Snow Leopard, and eventually sent my computer to the Apple Store for 2 weeks, believing the video RAM had gone bad (according to apple's utilities) - turned out they found nothing wrong. During that 2 weeks, iTunes undated to 9.0.1 (now 9.0.2) and never said a word to me about the issues in iTunes that probably created all of this trouble. I hope they fix iTunes, soon. All my PC friends are saying they have no iTunes troubles, and here we Mac lovers are... frustrated.

  • Java 7 update 25 - Slowing down the login to application

    Hello All ,
We facing slowness issues with out Web start application with the Java 7 update 25 ,(very slow to open the log in screen )
After our investigation we see that now Java security has enabled the OCSP  and CRL check for signed certificate and this is what is causing slowness as each jar download is making
a trip to Certificate Authority for validation .
When we manually select on CRL method the reponse is much faster so in effect online verification with OCSP is adding the delay .
This is our temp fix for the problem but we are looking for long term fix where if next Java release has only OCSP option then also we should not be affected . At this point though we are not sure of
    a way ahead .
Has anybody faced this kind of problem after new Java update ?

    Hello normandygroup,
EDIT : test if java is installed correctly: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
    thank you

  • Slow down of EE fiber over time, now apparent limit to ~5Mbps

Hello. So firstly there was another thread of the same nature by the user Disco110 who explained that he is facing an issue with his Fibre service. I would like to report the same issue. I was going to post this thread a few days ago but during the write-up I noticed the connection had somewhat improed itself. It seems to happen mostly in the evenings. I have also tested this service with and without a VPN connection to check if I am running into any throttling (although HTTP should never be throttled). Just for your and XRaySpeX's convinence here are some statistics: Broadband Type Fibre Broadband State Connected Internet State Connected Time Connected 34:56:41 Downstream Rate 39.97 Mbps Upstream Rate 10.00 Mbps (http://i.imgur.com/iweexvq.png)   Operation Data Upstream Downstream Noise Margin 7.0 (dB) 10.9 (dB) Line Attenuation 0.0 (dB) 23.3 (dB) Indicator Name Near End Indicator Far End Indicator Output Power 5.8 (dBm) 12.3 (dBm) Fast Path FEC Correction 0 86 Interleaved Path FEC Correction -- -- Fast Path CRC Error 0 0 Interleaved Path CRC Error -- -- Loss Of Signal Defect 1 0 Fast Path HEC Error STR 0 39149 Interleaved Path HEC Error -- -- Error Seconds 5181 44 (http://i.imgur.com/gSKcmBa.png)  As you can see, the noise margin is currently set at 10.9db which seems far too high. Here is a speed test also  http://i.imgur.com/nVux3vd.png What's interesting is that the upload speed is fine, but the download speed seems to be throttled. I've tried all the usuals, restarting PC, disconnecting ethernet cables, resetting router during daytime for better sync speeds etc. What I can say is the speed is fine during the day and we can hit our 4.5MB/s (megabytes/second) speed just fine, just at night it seems to go back to ADSL mode again. Here is another image taken from the BT speedtest  http://i.imgur.com/pdv6xyI.png And finally one more from the advanced BT checker: http://i.imgur.com/TP9kmSe.png Which is slightly better download wise but seems to stutter alot (it goes up and down a lot). If I have to ring someone up which is the best number to call and how can I avoid the whole "please do this and that" debacle? I've spoken to their customer support a lot and they make you do the run around where I just want them to reset a few things and be on my way.  Thank you.

Respectfully, I signed up for the "Fiber" service as we told numerous times that our connection speed would range from 25-40mbps and this was confirmed by the numerous checkups I did. To a certain degree you are paying for a theoretical speed, however, a reduction on a Fiber service of 92.5% of the sync speed indicates there has to be something wrong with the service.  Most customers (inclduing myself) would be asking questions (hence the thread) if a service you are paying for is suddenly reduced to a crippling state. If they want to provide ADSL level speeds then the price tag should match. To make it clear, I am absolutely fine if the connection is going to remain at this speed during points of the day, however, at the same time I will refuse to pay for Fiber service to only get ADSL when I want to use the connection. If they want to provide me 3mbps then I will pay for 3mbps. If they offer 40mbps I will pay for 40mbps. However, they should only offer services for sale they know are fit for purpose and are not, for some seemingly unknown reason going to suddenly reduce the speed by 90%+. If you can't deliver a solid, stable service then it should not be offered for sale.

  • My internet speed has slowed down since getting the 1TB time capsule---why?

I had the Linksys wireless G router with speedbooster, now that I have replaced it with the TC, my internet is slower than before. I often have to hit a link several times just to get it to go through. What is the problem? I've tried switching channels between 11 and 6, but nothing changes. I have to macs with wireless N capabilities and 2 PC's that use "G".

I've even shortened the name of the TC.

  • High CPU using process slowed down after a period of time

    Hi,
I am running a Finite element commercial solver, our tipical installations are with windows server 2008 but now we were force to move to windows server 2012.
When we launch the solver, which may be working with up to 20 cores, the CPU usage remains consistent for about 40 minute/1 hour then drops to the usage of only one core without having completed the process, which complete several hours later.
We already tried putting the power management at High performance, but didn't solve.
Are there any suggestion regarding where to look at?
    Thanks
    Raffaello

    Hi,
First, please make sure your hardware support windows server 2012. I’m not sure what “Finite element commercial solver” is. So I just treat it as a kind of software. Is there
any compatibility with the software with the new OS?
Process Monitor may help address the issue.

  • Ipad 1 slows down after installing IOS 5

Adter installing IOS 5 my Ipad 1 slows down considerably. Apps take time to start and especially the writing is so slow that I actually I cannot use the Pad anyomore. I udgraded only because I could not update imoorstant apps (keypad, pages) anymore with the old operating system. But this is no solution. Anyone elseexperiencing this problem or am I the only one?

    it just doesn't work...
I used Pages and Keynote and Garageband extensively in ios4, with few problems. now, in ios5 they take quite literally several minutes to load, if they don't crash (usually a 50% chance).
I have been to my local Genius Bar and they suggested "restoring as new", as opposed to "restoring with backup". i took this advice, and did both (post ios5 upgrade) and performance is still just awful.
really loved this device up until now, and could even reliably use it for work. at the moment i have an expensive paperweight and am not at all pleased.
seems i have company here. are you listening apple?

  • Songs slowing down

Before the update all my imported MP3 songs played perfectly. Yet ever since I installed the latest update my songs start playing, but then suddenly slow down and speed back up again after about 10 seconds. I thought it may be the songs but it slows down in different parts each time I play my music, its completely random. Sometimes I wish I couldn't even play the music like some.

I don't know why your iPod/songs are doing this, but it might be doing this because you are shaking the iPods HD(Hard Drive) while you are running/jogging. Considering that it does not do this when it is just sitting on your lap.
It is not really good to run with the iPod video(5g iPod)because it has an HD. It is not good because while you run at the exact same time the HD is being moved around(which is not good). If I were you I wouldn't run with the iPod. If you really want to run with your iPod then you should probably purchase the iPod Nano because it doesn't have an HD.
But that is just my opinion

  • IBook slowing down...

for some reason over the past week or so, my iBook has been slowing down, taking more and more time to do things (even the simple ones, suchas open finder...)
This pretty much all started when updated to 10.4.4, updated itunes and so on, and installed Google earth (love this thing i have to say!! ;)) Anyway, repaired permissions a couple of times, ran MacJanitor, am only using 70% of my 60Gb, have 512Mb of RAM..., and checked the CPU usage, and nothing is "pumping" all of the power... it should all run fine. but the spinning wheel appears more and more, and it's getting on my nerves!... Any ideas on what i should/could do to get it running smoothly again?
    Thanx in advance
