Really simple requirement

I'm not a great Photoshop user myself but sell Mac-based systems in London. I have a client who wants a particular function to work in CS4 the same way it did in Photoshop 7, the one he's just upgraded from.
He's not interested in learning anything new, so I'm afraid that tricks with rulers, grids and layers are out. I've shown him all of those and he just doesn't want to know!
This is the problem. He scans a lot of his photographs from the fifties, sixties and seventies into the Mac and opens them in Photoshop. As it's unlikely that they are completely square-on, his tried and trusted method in PS7 was to drag the window open a bit to reveal the grey border, then move the right side back to the edge of the photo to judge the amount of rotation required. I've seen him do this and he's very good at predicting the amount required, down to 0.1 of a degree.
We seem to have hit a problem with CS4, because when you move the right side of the window towards the edge of the image, the image also moves over to the left. Is there any preference for CS4 I can set to stop the image moving when we try to do this? I've looked everywhere but can't find anything.

That's interesting, I hadn't seen the 'Straighten' feature in the CS5 specs. It's the sort of thing that begs to be put into an Action. Thanks for the info.
In answer to the rather tounge-in-cheek comments from other people, he's 74 and suffers from OCD. The reason we moved him to CS4 was that his G4 PowerMac had finally died and he wanted a 'New' new machine. He did not have the original serial number or installer DVD for his copy of Photoshop (I suspect someone had 'lent' it to him) and so I thought it best to start afresh rather than drag copy and suffer any compatibility problems. As he needed to get working CS4 was the only one available and I was not aware of the built-in problem of lining up the side of the scan. Mea culpa!

We have just installed a new ASA5510 and I have a problem with I think Natting. Forgive me if its really simple but I have next to no experience of Cisco boxes.
I need to allow SMTP from an outside link. Its not the Internet.
The source IP is 172.24.52.50
The Firewall Interface is 172.24.52.4
The Inside Interface is 151.176.90.192
The SMTP server is 151.176.90.220
I need to NAT this link 'cos there are other smtp links that expect the 52.4 interface. The Packet Tracer within ASDM fails at the NAT stage and I notice that both Input and Output interfaces are both the 52.4 interface. Can anyone tell me what config I should have to NAT between the two boxes? I currently have a static one

As you have only a single IP address coming to inside which you want to NAT, you should use static NAT for this. Use the "static" command to NAT the incoming IP address. Following link may help you

As far as your first requirement is concerned we can do that in SAP WAS very well with the help of WebDynpro. You need to use Business Graphics for that purpose, see the following link for details,

Well for the other one you need to use job scheduling in JAVA with the help of say Quartz or something like that so that you can run timely jobs.

Help with a really simple SQL statement

I'm relatively new to SQL and can't get my head round what I believe to be a really simple problem.
I have a table I want to query called locations. We use locations to mean groups and regions as well as people s ofr example:
TABLE: LOCATION
IDENTIFIER----------NAME-----------------PART_OF
101--------------------USER A---------------123
123--------------------GROUP A-------------124
etc
What I'm trying to write is a statement that will return the 'PART_OF' as the 'NAME' rather than the ID number if the ID = 101.
I was wondering if a nested select statement would do (select as select etc) but just can't get my head round it!
Any ideas?

It's not clear what you are looking for. If USER A is just Part of GROUP A, a self-join will do:

REALLY simple mpd setup script

Because the complaints about mpd not working never stop and the reasons being always the same, i decided to make a really, REALLY simple setup script.
All this will do is the following:
It makes sure you run it as the user, that owns the music files.
It asks for the path to your music files.
It creates ~/.mpd and ~/.mpd/playlists
It creates ~/.mpdconf with all needed config options (apart from outputs, since mpd should autodetect those)
It copy/pastes all possible mpd options to the created config file, so the user can easily tweak it, if he likes (ugly done by including a 2nd file to be used)
It creates the entry to /etc/hosts.allow
It deletes itself.
Hopefully this might be useful for those new to mpd.

updated it to disable ffmpeg per default, since it keeps crashing mpd, when playlist files are present in music directory.

Really simple question, stop function and scroll bar won't work

I was working on different parts of this VI separately, when I put them together the scroll bar and stop button stopped working.
In the individual VI both are in the while loop. In the final one I was one scroll bar and one stop button to apply to all 5 while loops.
I tried taking the scroll bar in and out of the first loop to attach it to the rest but it still won't work.
I'm sure that there is a really stupid simple answer but I've been playing with it for a while.
I attached the VI that I am working on as well at fake data (to test the color boxes).

You have a typical beginner problem due to incorrect understanding of dataflow. Run the code using execution highlighting and watch the diagram to see.
Your stop button is outside any loop and thus will only be read by the code exactly once at the start of the program.
Your scroll bar is read in the first loop. All other loops cannot start until the first loop has completed and since (1) is true, it will never happen if the boolean is false when the code starts.
Why do you have so much duplicate code? 95% of the loop code is the same and can be re-used. I am sure the entire thing could be written using 5% of the total code. Put everything in one loop, the iterate over the 2D array to get all the values. Don't forget to place a small wait inside the while loop.

Simple Requirement in Tree UI element

I have the following requirement which is very simple in webdynpro java but the same changes are not reflecting in Tree UI element.
I have created the context struture as follows and i added this context node to the dataSource property of the Tree UI element.
but at the runtime the tree elements are not displayed as i added the context structure to the dataSource property.
i am getting the blank tree at runtime there is no elements at all.
Can you let us know if any settings are required to change the Tree UI properties.

Is the making of a calendar really simple?

I have been reading this forum for a while and am beginning to think that one cannot simply drag and drop pix into a format and send off to Apple for a great calendar.
All the talk of converting to tiff or raw, then color compatibility has me confused. Is there a place where one can REALLY learn how to do the calendars, books? I don't want to waste my money or time if the results are generally poor.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I've created a calendar each year for the last three years and it's really a drag and drop situation. There are some quirks that you can encounter and one is when clicking on a photo that's been inserted into a date box and you want to add a comment it ends up in the date box below the photo instead of on the photo as some would like.
As for color, all of my photos were sRGB or some other variation other than the Adobe RGB color profile. I found that if a photo is imported into iPhoto and it has no color profile assigned iPhoto will assign the profile used for the monitor. Weird but that's what I found. The materials in the calendars are of top quality IMO.
If you're shooting raw iPhoto creates a jpg version for viewing and editing when imported. It's that version that gets included into the pdf file that's created for uploading and printing.
Before ordering do a print to pdf of the calendar to for proofing and check that all text appears as expected.
Some issues have been encountered with books and the cover photos - some with the interior photos. I've had one hardcover and one softcover printed with iPhoto 7. The softcover was fine but the hardcover's dust jacket was dark. The interior photos were OK.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Please help, simple requirement using Layers, there must be a solution?!

Hi, I am using a trial version of Adobe Acrobat X Pro, with a view to purchasing the program for several members of my staff. However, it does not seem to be able to do something fairly simple which I need.. unless someone can help please! I work with maps that come to me as pdfs, and I need to be able to add text items (with arrows) to these maps that are then visible only when certain layers are selected in the new pdf, so that the three sub-contractors I distribute our completed maps to can view either all the text/arrows we have added, or only the info relevant to them if they prefer.
We've tried saving three maps each with different info on then importing them as three new layers to the original map, but that doesn't give the functionality to interchange views and it's very time-consuming. We've tried using InDesign on trial version but the layers are messy in the exported pdf (adds obsolete layers as a 'feature', the administrator in the InDesign forum said). I've experimented with the pre-flight functions in Acrobat Pro but found them not so user-friendly. Is there a way to select some text items and export them to a tiff with transparent background, then import these as a new layer perhaps? Or please someone tell me I'm being stupid and this was addressed in a simple function since Acrobat v2?!

Thanks all, I do appreciate these feedbacks, but I am struggling to understand the analogy between a car and iPad. When buying a car in a different location, you are adviced of all the features and then you take a decision if you are okay with it or not. But this was not the case with the iPad. I only found that out after a while being that it is my first iPad. Of course I will not make this same mistake again but I find it challenging that there are no provisions for correct this facetime issues for none residents.
I assume as you have all continiously stated that I may not make a difference on this as a lone voice but if Apple can consider making it possible for none residents or insisting that this is explicitly mentioned at the point of sales in Duabi for Apple products then it begins to be fair. In the car example, you are at least sure that certain feutures are unavailable and do not realize this after the purchase is done and you are back to your home country.
I also think saying "Dubai iPad" might not be correct as I always believed I was dealing with Apple product which out to give same level of satisfaction accross the globe....
I am a frequent traveller and really it would not have been inconveniencing not to buy this iPad when I did as I could have bought it from the UK, US or SA.....but just thought iPad was iPad everywhere.
Again why do I really have to buy another one? These cost money. And I do not have a shop to sell it as a non-facetime ipad. I would have expected apple center to receive these ipads and replace them or correct them.....
I am just listing this out incase the Apple team can see some sence in what I am saying. There are a number of ways this current situation would have been avoided for people like me.

How to do the really simple stuff? changing tool, setting color etc

I've been trying to do a color picker. I have managed to get it running with a UI and all looks sweet, but I have no clue how to actually do anything! Photoshop launches it just fine.
Simple stuff really:
1. How do you set the tool to the eyedropper? (I already have code working that detects when the mouse moves outside the window)
2. How do you set the color? Looking for a function like setColor() so that the current context get the color and user can preview the result (i.e. color overlay)
To me it sounds like these two would be simple one liners, but I can't for the love of God figure out how to do it!
Documentation for JS is pretty good though, but I haven't been able to run JS code from my color picker. Here's my attempt att running javascript code:

Which doesn't really work. It seems like the culprit is the conversion from char* to ASUnicode. In the example they had

Making my animation stop looping (it should be really simple, right?)

I am trying to achieve a simple thing really; I have made an animation and want it to stop looping at the end.
A quick search of the internet reassured me that this is simply a matter of putting in a stop(); command in the script. Great!
Errr.. no.
Here is what I did:
I created a new layer for my script and called it 'Actions'
selected the final frame of the Actions layer and added a keyframe
selected said keyframe and opened windows->Actions
typed in stop(); and closed the window.
Ok, so that apparently is all there is to it. Only, when I test the animation it doesn't move at all. it seems that the stop command executes right at the beginning and is constant throughout the whole timeline.
Also, I noticed that the Actions layer has a small white circle/dot on frame 1 and on the final frame also. There is no small letter 'a' that should be there on the final frame, but I don't know why.
So, what am I doing wrong?
I realise that if I am struggling to do such a simple task it doesn't bode well for any further learning of actionscript. Which is a shame.

What you describe should have worked, but you might have mis-stepped as well. Try having the Actions window opened before you select the frame and type stop(); and leave it open afterwards as well for when you test. As soon as you enter some code in a frame it should display the lowercase "a", so your best bet is to keep trying it different ways until you see that. As I said, the way you describe it is legit, but what you might have done in following what you say might be off.

Yet another really interesting post.......
I know that everyone is always asking for a shopping cart sollution for their web sites.... and I have looked into a few myself.... So then I discovered oscommerce WOW what an amazing thing all my problems answered....... well...... I wish is a great opensource shopping cart program.... really great but still cant fine tune it to how I want..... namely because I cannot edit it easily .... I have to get into the php code and change stuff...... CSS as well...... TOOOO much for me to take in.... I still struggling with DW and ADDT...... So.....
In the end I still want to use DW to create my site and ADDT to control it......
I decided that I wanted people who are looking at my site to be able to contact me directly ... on yahoo messenger and order whatever they liked..... not very professional I know but is a start..... but I stil want to have a functioning cart.... just an easy cart.....
I could go the other way and just use an existing oscommerce template with the whole shopping cart and payment gateways set up..... but that's defies the point of learning how to do things myself..... and getting there is half the fun so...... I want to design my own sites with my own feel....
So..... I found a site that has a simple shopping cart that works the same as all the other carts but has no paymant gateway..... only the products that you have added to your cart and a total at the bottom and a space to enter your address and phone number etc..
So does anyone know how I can go about making such a simple cart....
Or is there a program that can do it ..... or a DW extention......?
Anyway any help or ideas would be great

Really Simple Date conversion function... but doesn't work

For my application I need a function that converts a date to a date that is a monday.
I wrote this simple function, and I've been trying for many many times... but it just doesn't work. It returns a null value. The problem lies with the IF-statement.
I'm using iSQL 9

I have a really simple quesiton here...how do you get a login prompt?

When I try to go back into my listener configurations, I just get an error saying I must be logged in as an Administrator. Here is the big question....how can I login to the weblogic admin account I created for control of the listener if there is no form to do so when you try to go to the control page for it? By this does it mean I have to be logged in as an Apex Administrator? I am a bit confused as we are coming from the 10g HTTP Server hosted realm to the 11g Weblogic Server realm. Thanks for your help.

I forgot to mention that my APEX version is still 3.x.x era install and my weblogic server is a 11gR1 server. Does this have any known problems?
I did alot more digging and discovered that for some reason the log was now showing all the info on the web interface. I checked the log serverside and noticed something really interesting. *** has replaced servername in these logs.
