Really weird and annoying noise

When I use iChat (video chat) I get this really weird interference or noise, won't start at first but I hear it building up then it gets to be too loud and I can't hear anyone. And only I can hear it. To describe it, it sounds almost like a helicoptor or something and kind of like a pulsing static that changes volume. If anyone knows how to fix this I would reaally appreciate any tips.

its not high pitched and im the only one that can hear it. im using a Logitech USB headset and im wondering would the sound not occur if i just use the internal mic and speakers in the iMac. but im concerned that any sound coming through the speakers would be immediately picked up by the mic.
oh and also the person i chat with is using a pc but like i said im the only one that sound occurs to and its really really annoying.

Really weird and annoying problem

When I double click on a waveform (I forget the name of that small window that comes up), and play back just that one audio object in that window, it acts like it has a really extreme gate on it, only letting through very loud sounds, while the rest is just quiet. This is extremely annoying because I want to edit certain parts, and I can't find out what I need to select because I can't hear anything. Suggestions?

If the PDF that you converted already has searchable text, please try disabling OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel. (If the PDF was created from a scanned document and doesn't already have searchable text, disabling OCR isn't a great option, as the text won't be searchable/editable in the converted Word doc.)

Do you just want to delete the music or wipe the whole phone since you've switched to the other one?
If you plug the old iPhone into your computer you can remove stuff via iTunes or remove stuff directly from the iPhone too.

T61 Display Problem and Annoying Noise from ESC button area

I have two problems with my T61, model 6460-66U. One's with display and another is annoying noise coming from ESC button area.
Ordered in Feb, 2008 for college use, as soon as I start to use it there's some problem with the display quality. When using Aero there would be black square spots appearing on screen and would disappear when hovering mouse over these areas. Processing speed is somewhat slow when using Aero. While switching to Basic Vista style, those black square spots will only appear in the Windows Photo Gallery's left corner, like the image shows: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3149/2746362257_6dc6a4d6a2_o.jpg When playing videos, like avi, rmvb, wmv files, there's a common problem that the screen in the media player keeps flashing with the green color. I thought it was the RAM, because it's 1G so it got upgraded to 3G over summer break. Hoping the problem would be solved, but not . Recover the system back to factory status helps a little, but after upgrading the newest driver (7.15.11.7597) of Nvidia 140m there would be sudden black out on screen, and notice of display driver stopped working. When degrade to 7.15.11.129 version it runs fairly well but problem with Photo Gallery and videos as mentioned above still exist. I found a Korean media player which could fix the video playing problem, but with Windows Media player, Realplayer and other major video player the problem still exists. So I swtiched it back.
And recent few days, there's annoying noise coming from in the upper left corner, where ESC button is. I don't know whether it's from the fan or the AC adapter, it's like Zssssss, and if I press my finger on it, the noise would be a little louder. There's a similar problem that I noticed in the first few weeks with the experience of this laptop, whenever I maximize the volume (both volume control of computer and the music player), some annoying noise, which is similar to this Zsss sound but louder will buzzing along with music. Didn't care much about that since if I don't maximize the volume it would just be fine. But this time the whining noise won't disappear. What probably cause this? Anyway to fix it, like replacing certain parts??
Suggessions and help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

Dirt can get under the button in an instant.
I use a strong suction vacuum cleaner and tip the computer from side to side and upside down while clicking the button to suck out the dirt.

Weird and annoying font issues

I really need help with my fonts. Xfontsel and term emulators inc. aterm AND rxvt-unicode cannot find many of my fonts inc TTF and non-TTF and i do not understand why. All my fonts are visible and useable by gtk apps. They all appear in gtk2fontsel.
There may be some error in my xorg.conf but i find it diffcult to understand why fonts appear in some apps.
I can use some artwiz fonts in aterm but they all have huge space between the characters. this seems weird and makes me think it must be something in my x config or other settings cos they are AL artwiz package in the usual path - if they work for most people they should work for me right?
Please help – I am getting desperate!

well, I used to have "fc-cache -f" run on startup (rc.local) in order to make sure.... sure it took a bit, but I only reboot after big X changes (because I can't fully wipe out xdm if it is respawning).
And yeah lanrat - I forgot about the "man fonts-conf"... my fault there.
And I thought the font dirs were in local.conf.... but you're most likely right (as those are all basically system default font dirs).
I'll have to look into xfontsel.... it may show TTF fonts, but it uses old XFDL syntax for fonts.... whereas the syntax speicifed above is modern (as of 2001ish) just not used for some obscure reason.
I sent Kieth an email regarding fontconfig and freetype and font HOWTOs... we'll see if he responds....

My trackpad is sounding really weird and i have warranty! what can i do? PLEASE HELP

i dont know this normal or not this an 2 week old white macbook and the trackpad is sound weird and it depends on what surface you put it!

I had a similar problem and just found a fix for it.
My problem was that on one spot, the clicking seemed muffled, as if something was stuck underneath the trackpad, and near that spot, one time out of two, the click was twice as loud as normal, like it was "unsticking" something.
Anyways, I read that you could apply a good amount of pressure (as in push hard) on the whole trackpad (I used 6 fingers) for 2-3 seconds to fix this. It worked for me. I also read about gently hitting it with your fist... don't know if it works, but I didn't quite want to hit my MBP with my fist...

Vibrating mechanism all of a sudden has become really loud and annoying....

As the title states, my Iphone 4 all of a sudden one day started vibrating really loud, even outside of the case. I took my phone to the genius bar but they said that it was within normal working parameters. Problem is, I have another Iphone 4 and no joke, the vibration is 10 times louder. In some cases, I can hear the phone vibrating louder than I can the ring tone. It really is annoying and the vibrating feature is really useful especially when my son is taking naps.
Anyone have similar issues? And if so, how was it resolved?

If you have a newer iPod that can mulit-task, try turning off the other Apps.
If you have an older iPod, (that cannot multi-task), then try re-starting the iPod.

Brownish red screen and annoying noise

I was usuing my laptop like I normally do, when all of a sudden the screen turned brownish red and this annoying screetching noise came on, I automatically turned the latop off by holding the power button, a couple of days later, the same thing happened.
I used my antivirus to scan my computer thoroughly but to no avail.
I have a Satellite A500-134 and using windows 7 on drive C with Vista on drive D.
Any help is greatly appreciated, and sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, I just didn't know where else to place this.

I hope you'll be able to help me with this one, it is making me crazy. First, my configuration :
Mac OS X 10.4.11 (iMac G5)
Adobe Reader Version 8.1.2
Printer HP LaserJet P1005
I can print normally the usual pdf (have done it before and it is working perfectly). But I have just subscribe to a service which sends me "secured" pdf (I had to install a FileOpenWeb key; I can read those pdfs only on this computer and cannot edit them but I can print them - it is well specified in the security properties of the document and I contacted the supplier of the pdfs to confirm that it should be working). So I can open and read the pdf, but when I try to print them, Adobe crashes. Every time, without even popping up the usual print window. I just click on the prnter button and Adobe closes itself. If you know how to solve that problem, that would really be appreciated (a lot).

Have you tried to repair disk permissions?
(applications> utilities> disk utility.)
then re-install the key.
If that doesn't work, try as a new user.

MY MAC JUST DID SOMETHING REALLY WEIRD, AND IM A LITTLE WORRIED...

Hi, i left my computer on, its set to sort of, shut the display screen down when im away from it for more than 10 minutes, but not to put itself to sleep or shut down.
However, when i got back from downstairs, about an hour or two later, i looked at my screen and my login window was there with my name and picture, just like i had restarted my mac. But i hadn't. it was as though my mac had restarted itself. I'm a little worried my mac is spazzing out, or am i just being paranoid?

I was working on my PowerBook G4, MAC OS X version 10.4.6 1.67 GHz Power PC G4 1 GB DDR SDRAM when I accidently pulled out the power cord from the laptop itself. Immediately the screen flickered to black and then the power went completely off. I was not able to get the laptop to turn on again. When I pushed the battery button all the lights went on showing that the battery was fully charged. I tried starting with the power cord in and then with it removed but nothing.........aboslutely nothing........no sound, no nothing. I could not get the laptop to start up by doing ctrl, apple, power button....or with any other combination of keystrokes. I was trying to insert the DVD to use the disk utility.
I then found info telling me to unplug the power cord, remove the battery, push and hold the start button for 5+ seconds, re-insert the battery and then push the start button. The laptop now springs to life but any time I close the lid or retart it, it again goes dead and won't start again unless I do the things mentioned in this paragraph. I was smart enough this time to burn copies of my projects so I'm not in as much of a panic now. However I do need to fix the laptop from going dead on me everytime I close the lid or restart the machine.
Someone recommended on another forum that I reset the power manager but there is a major warning saying to only do that as a last resort and that I would lose my RAM card or something like that. I'll look up the warning info again and post it here. What are your thoughts on resetting the power manager.

Mp 620. Very weird and annoying behavior

So the Mp620 used to work fine.. but now it prints fine, but after 1 print it will get an (Output slot is jammed error, or Rear slot is jammed error) when nothing is jammed!! I usually have to turn off the printer, cancel the job, and reprint each page 1 by 1 by repeating this process.. its VERY annoying.. it does this both on my macbook and desktop..

Sounds like you may have a mechanical fault with this printer. I don't think the errors are being caused by anything in the driver. Certainly the only time I have seen the same messages is when paper is jammed. There are a couple of sensors in the unit for paper detection. One or both of these are probably the cause of the messages or you have a fault with the main board.

Really Loud and Annoying Beep with regard to power cord

I have a N500 and everything: I plug/unplug the power cable or battery becomes low a really loud beep is emitted by the laptop, try as I might I cant seem to get rid of this sound.
Is there anything I can do about it, if I mute the laptop it also mutes, but I would much rather remove it outright.
Any suggestions?

Really weird left fan noise

I know some folks have already reported the left fan being noisy, but try this and see what you hear. With MBP in your lap, like if you are sitting in a recliner with your feet up, take the back left corner of the MBP slowly up to your right ear. Listen for a very loud pinging noise from the back left side of the MBP. It sounds like something is hitting the blades of a fan. My wife could here this across the living room with the tv on.
I have recorded this using garage band and the built in mic and will upload the mp3 when I'm back home tonight.
I took it to the Genius bar and they said they need to hear more about this before they can do anything. It was hard to hear in the noisy store.
I was able to get two of the store machines to make the same noise by slowly lifting the back left corner up to my ear with the bottom right corner still on the table.
I may shoot an imovie of the exact position to make it more clear, but obviously this is a problem.
Please try and let me know if your MBP makes this noise.

Weird (and annoying) two profiles on the one ID.

I've not used the forums much recently so when I logged in a couple of days ago I didn't worry about the prompt to assign a 'screen name' to my ID. I just thought it was a feature of the upgraded forum.
But then I noticed that my avatar and points were both missing. After a bit of trial and error (much logging out and logging in !) I realised that I have two different screen names assigned to my one ID. My original (nealeh) and the new (Neale_in_the_UK). Both are linked to the same email address.
Hopefully the following two screen dumps highlight my problem. Please would you delete the 'Neale_in_the_UK' keeping just the 'nealeh' with the avatar and points.

That's what is most strange - I always sign-in as nealeh using the same parameters (I use roboform to connect and fill in the sign-in screen so it is always identical). I never did detect a pattern as to whether it connected me as 'nealeh' or 'neale_in_the_uk'.
Still, since you deleted the 'in_the_uk' name, all seems back to normal.
