Really weird connection issue

My laptop connected to the internet fine when I got the airport. True plug and play. Yesterday I plugged a printer into the airport using an ethernet port (I have a usb hard drive already attached). Now the laptop still connects to the network - can connect to the desktop and the usb hard drive - but firefox and ie say there is no connection. I can ping www.google.com from the CMD prompt and I tried reseting my dns stuff - suggestions from the firefox community. In the support tab, all looks normal, IP DNS etc. I can even print to the ethernet printer, through the desktop.
The desktop is fine. Please help!!

I don't know why, but the computer did have access to the internet, I just could not access it with the browsers. Apple software did an automatic update on quicktime and the update software and when the computer re-booted, all was working!

  • Really weird connection problem

Hi, I'm having a really strange problem here - at least I think so. Recently one of my roommates bought a new wireless adapter (802.11g), which I would really like to use as it's faster than my old Airport Snow basestation (802.11b). I'm using a Powerbook G4 with an Airport Extreme card running OS X 10.4.7. Here's the actual issue: Whenever I try to connect to my roommates network my PB tells me everything's fine. I get full signal strength in the menu bar and Iternet Connect tells me that I#m connected to the network. When I try to use mail or a webbrowser, however, it doesn#t work. Mail tells me I#m not online and Safari comes up with an error message: #You are not connected to the internet.'
I know my Airport card works as I can use my own slower network. In addition, my roommates network also works as he has no problems using it. I should probably mention that he's using a PC notebook (Dell). If that works a Mac should too. Any ideas what's going on? What should/could I do? Do I have to change any settings/preferences? I know PCs give you a million things to change in order to go online.
Thx a lot for your help.

You may need to look into the System Preferences> Network control pane
and see what the configuration(s) are; the order of preference to use
dialup, ethernet, and airport/wireless. Also you may need to see how the
network controls "see" your local wireless connection once you select to
have the AirPort at the top of the list and set to connect via airport; plus
with the Airport icon set to appear in the menubar.
The "Network Port Configurations" is where you can see and checkbox
some of these items, and for others you'd need to look a little further and
wider. I seldom look into mine, even though I run between wireless and
ethernet and sometimes have dialup, airport and ethernet all active in this.
But only use one at a time, and primarily am using one means of connecting
to the internet active at once; chosing to uncheck boxes and/or drag the
order of them accordingly in the configuration panel.

  • Have you been getting timeouts and other weird connection issues lately?

Internet connection has become a bit wonky as of late, have you been experiencing some or all of the following symptons?
    1) Most internet speed test sites just stop before completing as if they have timed out (i.e. speedtest.net).
    2) Sites will start loading quickly but then sometimes randomly stop and have to be manually refreshed.
    3) Downloads will randomly stop downloading for some moments before resuming (particularly from Steam)
    4) Tracert to some websites that were causing issues show timeouts on peering with Alter.net servers.
Looks like there are some issues between Verizon and Alter.net (formerly MCI, now Verizon owned) in NY.... Any word on when we can expect a resolution? This is quite frustrating as it affects a good amount of traffic.

I'm a little further east than you out here on Long Island, Touyats, but I've seen none of the issues you or the Original Poster here are experiencing.
Assuming you're having the problems on a device connected to your router by Ethernet cable (WiFi opens up an entire range of other possible problems) you might try getting your router assigned a new WAN IP address.
If you want to give that a try, see this post for the steps involved:

  • Weird connection issue here..

I just erased and reinstalled leopard . But the internet connection has problems i which i cant fix it..
First of all, i use airport and connection cuts out randomly.. Like every 2 3 minutes..
And when it connects back, it is really really slower than it should be..
The third and the weirdest thing is , when you click the airport icon on the top, after like 30 seconds of the connection, it stops showing all the wireless networks, and it only shows the one it'd been connected to.. Most likely after this thing happens, it cuts out again..
I didnt do anything strange when reinstalling but the only thing was i did not put any password to my user account.. I know it may sound stupid , but just trying to give some info which may help for the answer..
Any idea is appreciated.. Thank you..

    try restarting your wireless router.
also try using a wireless sniffer such as kismac. Then you can see if there are other network in your area and what channels they are broadcasting on.
Then set your wireless router to broadcast on channel 1, 6 or 11. choosing a channel that any nearby networks aren't using.
    other things to try
goto your network preferences and create a new location. Setup your wifi network as your preferred network for that location. Also make sure your wireless router is using WPA or WPA2 security.

  • Really weird iphone issues

So...my phone (iphone 3g) started off turning off when in my pocket and the only way to get it back on was a hard reset (ie. holding home and power button). The issue has gotten progressively worse in that it now shuts off more frequently and doesn't respond to any combination of buttons being pressed (duration etc.) for long periods of time (ie. 7 days). I've restored to factory settings as well as updated all software...the issue persists. When i plug it into a computer while it's "frozen" it's recognized as in recovery mode. However, when it finally turns on it's a fully functional phone and is recognized as such. I've let it charge for days so I don't think it's a battery issue but I feel it might be an issue with a connection to the battery...anyway, any help I can get would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

oh and being in my pocket is just an example of the phone going in to sleep mode...it also does it at night etc. Essentially, just an extended period (over 10 minutes) of not being used.

  • Weird connection issue

This post is about an experience my mother-in-law had at a hotel in Bangkok. Her new MacBook wasn't working properly online at the hotel even though multiple pc's were able to connect and surf quickly. She says she could pull up Google and the mac said it was connected but should couldn't reach any other websites. Any ideas or suggestions about what could cause this?

I am having a very similar issue, were able to resolve yours? Would you be able to offer any help?
    thank you in advance!

  • Weird Connection Issues

I just bought my macbook pro and I'm already having internet issues.
The mac sees and connects to my home's wireless network but it will not pull up any web pages.
When I unplug my connection from the back of my p.c. and plug into my mac I get the internet beautifully.
    What's going on?
Do I need to do something with my wireless router to make it work with a mac?
    Help please.
    Thanks in advance.

look at the ip set on your router and look at the ip on your mac... my guess is that they are not on the same line... example: router: 192.168.0.1....mac:192.168.1.99... will not match because of the .1... so just change your mac to 192.168.0.99 and that should clear it all up...

  • Very weird connection issue

    Ok. Got a new one.
This is Safari 3.1.1 PPC, running on a PowerBook G4, 10.4.11. The machine is definitely connected to the Internet. I receive email, and Firefox is working flawlessly.
But Safari can't open any webpage, I have trashed Safari itself and all files in the ~/Users/Library/Safari folder (keeping my bookmarks file on the desktop temporarily). I then reinstalled Safari by downloading a new copy from the Apple website, and installing from scratch.
Same problem with the new install.
    Any ideas?

Heh. I got you all stumped??

  • Really Weird Font Issues...

I'm not sure what happened, but I keep seeing a certain font on different webpages I visit and in Word documents that I am viewing. This font isn't set in the document or on the webpage at all. Is there some sort of CSS Style Sheet or default font that you can set for the OS? I don't have the issue with my laptop. Just my desktop and its driving me insane! I thought it was just a Safari issue, but I can see the same font when I'm working in Word. Please help.

  • Really weird Thumbnail issue

OK...so i upgraded to iLife 08 on my iBook and everything was working great on iPhoto for about an hour and then wham...all my thumbnails disappear.
I have restarted iPhoto and held down shift-cmn-option and asked it to rebuild thumbnail cache...which it does and still no thumbnails.
It recognises the albums and event etc...just cant see any pics. I know the pic library is still there as all 8GB is present. BUT when I try to view them the iPhoto library is now just an iPhoto library and when I click it...it just opens iPhoto. I have re-installed software, restarted...everything. Nothing works. Any thoughts?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • N1KV - Connectivity issues

    Hi all,
I  am trying to bring up my first N1KV in a lab environment and I am  having some weird connectivity issues. Hope someone can help !!
I've  been working together with our VM team and we have the following  installed and configured. We have ESX 4.1 installed on an HP DL360 G7  with 4 NIC's and the VMNic's are assigned as follow.
    -  vmnic0 to vSwitch0 with the following portgroups (Service Console,  N1KV-Control, N1KV-Mgmt, N1KV-Packet and VMKernel) and all portgroups  are in the same VLAN.
    - vmnic1 to vSwitch1 for vMotion traffic
    - vmnic2 to vSwitch2 for VM data
    - vmnic3 to vSwitch3 for VM data
I  have VSM and VEM version 4.2(1)SV1(4) installed on the same ESX host  and connected to vCenter with the following port-profile and svs-domain  configured. I am using L3 mode for VSM and VEM communication I believe  this is what Cisco recommends going forward.
    port-profile type ethernet system-uplink
      vmware port-group
      switchport mode access
      switchport access vlan 7
      no shutdown
      system vlan 7

      domain id 101
      control vlan 1
      packet vlan 1
      svs mode L3 interface mgmt0
    Here is my problem:
When  I move vmnic0 to the system-uplink port-profile with N1KV-Control,  N1KV-Mgmt, N1KV-Packet map to System-Console port-profile, and VMKernel  maps to L3vmkernel port-profile, all seems to work fine at this point. I  can see the VEM comes online and all is good. But when I start moving  the second vmnic over (either vmnic1, vmnic1 or vmnic3 don't matter) all  hosts got disconnected, vCenter shows all hosts disconnected. And the  only way to bring the environment back is to log into ESX and run ESX  commands to delete and recreate the vmnic's then map them back to  vSwitch.
Has  anyone ran into this issue before ? Could it be that vmnic is assigned  to the vSwitch that you can't move it over to the N1KV ?
Thanks in advance !!! I appreciate any inputs / suggestions !!!
    D.

    Hello,
We need additional information to further investigate this behavior. Please open a TAC service request with following logs after re-creating the issue.
VSM log file ( SSH session output file )
    show tech-support svs | no-more
    VEM log bundle
SSH into ESXi host and execute " vem-support all " command

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • Weird audio issue when printing to video

I am attempting to dub a couple of old projects to tape using the Print to Video command (firewire connection to Panasonic DVX-100A MiniDV camera). I have used this method many times in the past with success. However, I have now tried two different projects tonight and had the same strange issue: The project plays back perfectly normally in the timeline, through the computer speakers, but when I Print to Video, there will be one part where a small audio "blip" can be heard. It sounds like either a snippet of tone or the sound of un-rendered audio... except it's all rendered.
Anybody have any suggestions? It's really weird that it plays back something different in Print to Video than it does in regular playback... Any help is appreciated.

That did it, thanks! I feel kind of dumb, I've never used that function before. Is that something I should have been doing all along? Anyway, thanks again. It's nice to get a response and have it work on the first try. So refreshing.

  • Desktop version acting really weird

I'm having trouble getting the desktop version of Story to run (on MacBook Pro, OS X Lion). Whenever I open it, I see this warning

Seems to be true whether I am connected to the internet or not. I thought initially I had a problem with Air, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled and all seems to be well there. Thoughts?

    Hi,
This could be due to to OS X Lions 'Save/Restore Application state feature (on quit/relaunch)'.
Can you try out following and see if the issue is fixed ?
      1) Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
      2) At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”
      3) Now reboot and restart adobe story (you can try reinstalling adobe story as well).
Please note: This might affect other applications, whoe states were stored so far on quitting. This is a sweeping change that impacts all applications and the Finder itself, meaning all apps will no longer save their previous state, including when you reboot your Mac.

  • HP PhotoSmart 7510 suddenly has severe connectivity issues

I have a HP PhotoSmart 7510 printer since about 2 months. Initial setup worked like a charm and the printer has been working pretty much perfectly for the last 2 months. Wireless printing, scanning and internet access on the printer (e.g. for Facebook photos) all worked. Just from time to time i would get the occasional (mildly annoying) message on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable" but it usually worked itself out and whenever I needed it to work, it did work.
But since a few days ago, it has some severe connectivity issues. I didn't change any settings on the printer, router or computer - the issues just started appearing by themselves. I startet getting much more frequent messages on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable". I noticed I couldn't print anymore, and restarting computer, printer and/or router didn't help at all. The only thing so far i managed to print wirelessly since the problems started were the first 5 pixel rows of an image I tried to print, the rest didn't transmit.
It seems the printer still connects to the WLAN but printing and scanning no longer work, and whenever I try to access a web service on the printer (like Facebook) it says it has no internet connection, even though the WLAN light is lit up (not blinking) and all the wireless status reports say "congratulations, no problems found" and display IPs etc. just like normal.
I looked at the threads "PhotoSmart 7510 connects to router, but not to the web.", "Wireless printer (HP Photosmart 7510) not connecting to network" and "Photosmart 7510 won't connect to Web Services" but they weren't a big help. Activating EWS didn't work because even though the printer showed its IP address to be 192.168.1.3, when I entered this in my web browser it didn't find the printers configuration page.
I tried the following steps from one of the threads:
    1. Restore the Network defaults
    2. Unplug the printers power cord while it is still on. Leave it unplugged and walk to the router.
    3. While the router is still on, unplug the power cord from the router, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the router. Once plugged back in the router should power on automatically.
    4. Plug the power cord back into the printer. Once plugged back in the printer should power on automatically.
    5. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect the printer to your wireless network.
    6. Try enabling Web Services.
I followed these steps exactly. Interestingly, even though I had done step 1 and restored the network settings to factory defaults, after turning back on, the printer somehow still had its old settings saved and reconnected to the network.
It seemed to have fixed the problem, the printer finally had internet access again (Facebook app showed my photos) and scan to computer found my PC. But after just about 3 minutes, the printer had lost its internet connectivity again. When opening the Facebook app, it displayed the same error message it did before. And printing no longer worked as well.
So, what is wrong with this printer?! It has the newest software update by the way (I checked during the 3 minutes it had internet access.) My computer is a HP Windows 7 x64 machine (EliteBook 6930p) and the router I'm using is a Netgear WNDR3700.
I specifically bought this printer for my studies at university. In one week i have my exams and in order to study I REALLY need to be able to print some of my course materials! So any help as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated. Or do you think this is a case for a warranty replacement, considering the printer's really strange and error-prone behavior?
    Thanks a lot!

I can assure you that it is not a router issue.  It appears to me that it is a driver compatibility with Windows OS.  After trying to get to the bottom of this since my Photosmart 7525 was new and reading just about every forum and blog, I have come to the conclusion that the issue must be related to the HP driver itself.
The issue does not seem to affect any Mac systems, and from one forum someone was able to fix it by downloading new drivers compatible with 64-bit systems (which seem to not be affected by the glitch).  But that leaves us 32-bit people stuck with the current driver which does not work.
The printer is connected with good signal to the wireless router (no matter who's router it is and what configuration is made).  The printer can be pinged from the router and any computer on the network which is not currently being affected by this issue.  However, the affected computer fails pings by either request timed out, or destination host unreachable.  Pings are successful from the affected computer to any other device on the network.  The only way to recover (at least for a few days) is to reboot the affected computer.
Also, from the display on the 7525, the network tests pass without issue.  I can also download and print content from the internet with no issues.
Please do a quick google search of this issue and you will see several THOUSAND entries of people with the same request.  This is a serious issue that people are having and everything is pointing to an HP problem (not routers, improper installation of software or drivers, etc...).  I agree with several other customers that HP should be on the hook for this fix.  I will give it another couple weeks, then back to the store for a reliable unit from another competitor (Canon, Lexmark, etc..)
Thank you in advance for escalating this issue to product engineering,
    S. Hunn
