Really weird warning message at startup, then crash - Ipod Classic 80gb

Its been on its way out for about a year but now it looks like its finally broken.
When I start it up it gets a warning sign of a red circle with a cross in the middle, and a link to apple support. I can't find support for this sign or anything to tell me what it means. If I connect to pc it doesnt recognise so i cant restore to factory settings. Im stumped, please help!

Hello the offended,

  • Weird problems with ipod classic 80gb, hdd's gone?

Hi, hope u could help me.
Excuse my not fluent english, I'm not british/american so I will try to make myself as clear as possible. Thanks
First of all, got iPod classic 80gb, systems Vista/XP, was trying to cope with this problem on both computers, but ran out of ideas, so decided to make a topic on Apple forum.
Few days ago my iPod was working fine, then I put some stuff on it (put them in 'Notes', using iPod as a pendrive) and weird things started to happen. Maybe it has something to do with it, don't know, but will try to write as many details as possible.
When I connect my iPod to the computer (i tried on 3 computers), every time my Windows doesn't recognize an iPod (computer sees something has been connected, but doesn't see what). So if I go to 'Computer' I even do not see an iPod disc.
I can't open iTunes when iPod is connected, but once I disconnect my iPod, iTunes opens immediately. If I open iTunes before connecting an iPod, iTunes works fine but it can't see an iPod as well. (I used an option with checking connection with iPod but it sees nothing unfortunetely).
Later, when I want to disconnect my iPod using 'safe remove hardware' it doesn't work, just hangs.. so I have to unplug my iPod and once I do it, it immediately appears 'USB xxxxx now can be disconnect safely' (something like that, very similiar to the iTunes case).
When I disconnect my iPod, it just hangs showing 'Connected, do not disconnect', sth like that, so I got to restart it and then works fine.
My iPod works fine without connecting to the computer, everything is just fine.
Any ideas? Already tried to reset settings on iPod and tried to re-install iTunes, but I guess problems lays somewhere beetween iPod and computer which doesn't see my iPod.. Also I tried to re-install USB slots/drivers, didn't help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers, Robert.

When I had Windows XP on a Lenovo, I also had a U2 20Gb iPod...The problem was, believe it or not, the battery! I took it to ipodrepair in Toronto, and they said there was some servo or switch that was blown. It couldn't charge properly and when it was connected to the computer, it went into limbo - not able to charge, not able to load the ipod.
So, check with repair if you can...It may be the battery, even on a new one!
    Good Luck!

  • My apple ipod classic 80gb says there is no music - anything on my ipod, but says it only has 37gb free. Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. can't restore.

my apple ipod classic 80gb says there is no music - anything on my ipod, but says it only has 37gb free. Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. the only way to unfreeze it is by detatching the ipod or resetting with menu/centre (until it loads up again, where it immediately unfreezes and comes up with a load of messages saying "cannot read iPod" and when i try and restore it by pressing menu/centre button while it's plugged in, it says "cannot restore as it is being used by another program" or "error 1415". Any ideas how to sort this out? hope i haven't majorly screwed it up. thanks.

Sorted it out. If anyone has this problem i reccommend visiting http://forums.ilounge.com/ipod-classic-ipod-5g-video/237546-ipod-classic-80gb-fr eezes-itunes-need-restore-plz-help-2.html#post1403546 there's some pretty good advice on it. have to go into control panel and re-format iPod into NTFS file. good luck.

  • Why does my ipod classic (80gb) connect for a few seconds then disconnect?

I have a ipod classic 80gb, granted its old, but it has a big memory so I can store my whole collection. Anyway, when I connect it to my PC (with windows 8.1) it will connect for a few seconds then disconnect. It will sometimes start to sync, but then disconnect after a few seconds. My computer is pretty new, Acer Aspire V5. I have tried reinstalling itunes, a new cable to connect it, different usb ports(2) and with and without the pc plugged into the mains, which is when it starts to sync for a brief second. Has anyone else had the same problem??

The S.I. prefix Giga is used to mean both 1000x1000x1000 and 1024x1024x1024. Computer software typically uses the second version, but using the first number makes the same number of bytes appear bigger when expressed as Gb, so is favoured by hard drive manufactures.
    80Gb10 = 74.3Gb2
It's a bit like specifying a quantity in gallons without saying whether they are US or Imperial gallons - everybody gets the same volume but one number will be bigger than the other. I could offer you a tank with 10 Imperial gallons of fuel in it - but if I tell you it's 12 US gallons it sounds like you're getting more for your money.
Once the total size of your library exceeds the capacity of your device all you need to do is create some size limited playlists to determine what goes on the device. Don't sync all movies, sync one or two that you plan to watch soon. Likewise with TV Shows. Limit podcasts to unplayed episodes and finally create a music subset. What worked for me for some time was a smart playlist called Steve's Tunes defined as Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Exclude where Exclude was regular playlist that I would manually add to until Steve's Tunes was small enough to fit. These days I run an iPhone and have a number of smart playlists with ? Gb of most played, ? Gb of highly rated, ? Gb of recently added, ? Gb of essentials, ? Gb of unplayed etc. Each time I sync I get slightly updated selection without having to put any extra effort in.

  • Warning message on startup and 3D disabled

A little while ago I started receiving a message on Photoshop startup saying that 3D requires a minimum of 512mb of vRAM.I havn't made any changes to my hardware.
I have a ATI 5700 graphics card installed, I don't really know what vRAM is but when I run a DxDiag it reports that there is 4095mb on the card, is this the vRAM, i don't know? If not how can I determine how vRAM I have?
    Thanks,

  • Warning message on startup

    Hi Everyone,
I'm very new to Fireworks. Just starting to learn it with my
trusty "Macromedia Studion 8 For Dummies"!
On startup I'm getting the message "Problem loading the
content XML. You've requested a language ('en') which does not have
    any available content".
The program seems to run ok, but I don't understand what's
causing this message or where I may have requested a language 'en'.
Any ideas anyone? And how do I get rid of the warning
    message?
Many thanks for your time if anyone can help - sorry if it's
    a dumb question.

  • Apple Podcast crashes iPod Classic

I've had a few problems with some video podcasts not working properly but I've normally put them down to third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file. However my recent issue has brought new concern as to what is going on with my iPod classic.
The recent Apple Quick Tip of the Week - Tip 45: Searching the Dictionary, causes my iPod classic to reset. It's not just a occasional problem but happens everytime I run that file and exactly at the same spot each time.
    iPod Classic configuration:
    160GB version
    Serial Number: 8M7379DXYMX
    Model: MB150
    Version: 1.1.1 Mac
Previously seen issues with cut outs and hangs with video podcasts from NAPP, e.g. Photoshop TV and PS Killer Tips. This is the first time a podcast has caused the iPod to completely reset though.

Perhaps that's why Apple posted the update!
You are probably correct when you suggest that "third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file" has something to do with it. Maybe the people who create the Apple Quick Tip of the Week haven't checked to make sure what they do actually works.
I had a video (converted by iTunes for the iPod) that caused my iPod 160GB to crash, twice. Since that video was not that important to me, I removed it and it will not go back on regardless of software updates. These things happen. However, to someone like me who grew up with vinyl records, the iPod is fantastic!

I cannot sync ipod with my computer - I have no disc or any instructions.  Can you help me

Any content stored the iPod belongs to the former owner and cannot be transferrred.
If you can restore to factory settings, you can then purchase iTunes media and sync your own photos.

  • Weird warning message on tomcat 5.0.30

    Hi
This message recently started to show up in tomcat's console window:

  • DBA COCKPIT warning message during startup

When I execute DBACOCKPIT the following message is displayed:
Problem with UDF Installation: Other error
Therefore some functions may not work properly.
Check the UDF configuration for more details.
You are able to "enter" the DBA Cockpit application. The only visable anomoly is:
"File Systems" is greyed-out under DB02-->CONFIGURATION. Therefore I am unable to select this icon and see the "df -k" statistics.
When I execute the TEST under DB02>CONFIGURATION>MONITORING SETTINGS the response is: Test of user defined functions has been finished without errors
The UDF configuration is version 19
    The database is version: 09.01.0003
The SAP Application is SAP NW2004 version 640 with Support Pack 19
I have other systems with the same configuration and the problem does not exist - any ideas?

    Hi Timothy,
I am not really sure, if the SAP Note 452275 - 'Problem with UDF installation' may help you, as it is quite old and have a new version
However, you have there also a reference to SAP Note 334777 - DB6: Missing user-defined functions, which explains you how to verify that the UDF are correctly installed.
    Best regards, Edgardo

  • Weird error message when transferring files to iPod

Hi all, I just received a 64 Gig iPod Touch in the post today. When setting it up in iTunes (I'm using 9.0.1.8), I got as far as the screen asking me whether I want to automatically sync music/videos/apps every time I connect the iPod to my computer, and I unchecked all the boxes and pressed "Done" (or whatever it said). iTunes then hung for about 10 minutes, and then gave me an error message that said something like (I didn't write down the exact wording)
"iPod cannot be synced. The device cannot be written to or read".
Now whenever I transfer music to the iPod, it gives me the following message:
"The iPod 'Phil's iPod' cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13014)"
It seems to work fine despite the message - the music still gets transferred. Anybody know what's going on?

What would cause this message and why would it not be able to be played on my iPod?
This message usually indicates the file does not meet ipod specifications. For many making their own conversions, this could be incorrect formatting during conversion. However, since these files were supposedly processed by professionals, would assume target format was correct but the video content pushed the video data rate above the 1,500 kbps maximum limitation. Most of my tests using QT Pro produced files with average video data rates between 1524 and 1536 kbps and in one case had to adjust brightness and contrast to make the file acceptable for iTunes sync to iPod. That is why I requested that Baseline LC profile access be added to the MPEG-4 export option to allow manual custom conversions. In any case, be sure to report your inability to sync specific files to ensure they are properly "re-mastered."

  • Updater keeps telling me to update-then crashes iPod

When I plug in my iPod mini, I get an update to 1.4 message. I click OK. It runs...then my Mini disappears from iTunes. But it still says do not disconnect. I quit iTunes. Then my Mini shows a folder with an exclamation mark. I restart iTunes, the mini appears again-and so does the updater. I say OK to the updater, and the whole problem repeats.
I don't know what to do. Help please.
    iTunes 6.0.1.

    Jeff
I came to that conclusion as well and tried it. But more importantly (for anyone else who may have done this) I had my Mini connected via firewire. Normally not a problem. I have a 30GB iPod as well and I use it for that. However, when I tried connecting my Mini via USB. all worked well. I put a piece of tape over my firewire-pod cable with a note to self...don't use for Mini!

  • New iPod Classic 80gb Making weird clicking/grinding noise

I recently (2 days ago) purchased an Apple iPod 80gb and I noticed that when I go from the main menu to videos, or music, or anything else the iPod makes a weird clicking noise.
It comes from the iPod itself and it's loud enough to hear without putting your ear to it.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if I should have it serviced?

Some "clicking" noise is normal - it's the hard drive spinning up and being read. However, it shouldn't be very loud (though, of course, loud is subjective). Now, if it is "grinding", that could be a problem. Does it stop after a couple of seconds after you change menus or start a song or video?
If you're concerned, exchange it (now's the time when it's new). Better that, than worry that your iPod may die any day.

If you are having issues with you iPod Classic, you may want to go through the following Troubleshooting Assistant to help narrow down the issue. If you are unable to identify or resolve the issue, there should be a Service link at the end of the Assistant that will have additional options.
