RealPlayer 10.1 - Safari Incompatibility

Ok, Issuing a new thread since it's getting confusing with older ones.
The new RealPlayer load is Universal (10.1), plugin also.
Now, Safari doesn't load the content, it seems it recognizes the plugin, but then blank. I've tried putting the plugin (not the shortcut) in the Internet Plugin Folder to no avail...
Powerbook G4+iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.8)
MacBook+iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
MacBook+iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I was about to post exactly the same issue then I see this thread.
I tried 2, 3 times more or less the same things as described by Michael without any success, gave up and restored back the previous version 10.0.0 - bad

  • Safari incompatibility with MS Office for MAC

Ever since downloading and installing Safari Version 4 two days ago, I am unable to open MS Office for Mac. Entourage, Powerpoint, Word, and Excel are all affected. Any suggestions?

    Hi jioewnhagen;
You might want to consider using OpenOffice instead M$ Office. Two of the people I help to support have found it to be much better with Leopard.

  • Safari incompatibility

    Hello
I am a university student, using the IPAD as a study tool. I'm facing several problems with the Safari browser because it does not have an ideal support for university study includes program with online tools such as the program used by most U.S. universities, called Blackboard. The pages come out in the middle does not support bar on the page, does not support java, I can not take my labs, exams and assignments in line instead of the iPad. I know an application of the backboard but it is almost nonfunctional and incopatible with versions that run the universities, for which I beg you to help me to use the backboard on line at its maximum layers and thus is a tool ipad complete my studies.

  • IPad: Safari: Incompatibility with Amazon functionality

If I use Safari on my iPad to browse to my Amazon.co.uk wishlist, then the various gadgets do not work properly, though they work perfectly using Safari on my PC.
Specifically the gadget for moving wishlist items to another wishlist does not deal with scroll bars correctly. There is no scroll bar drawn so you can't see all items in the list.
In addition if you try to bring up the priority / copies received dialog, it sometimes just jumps to the end of the web site instead of bringing up the dialog.

I wonder if that is really true. Since the iPad does not support Flash (like it's little cousins the iPhone and iPod) you may find it necessary to use the mobile versions of some websites.

  • Realplayer in safari

I've got a Macbook Pro. I've installed the latest realplayer program, but when I go to watch streaming realplayer video in safari I get an error message like this:
"The page “Watch LIVE” has content of MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed."
Do I need to do something else to get realplayer to play in safari?
I have also tried playing realplayer videos in Firefox, but that won't work either, because I don't "have a plugin." When it asks if I'd like to go find one, I do it, and then it tells me there aren't any.
Can somebody please tell me how to watch realplayer in your web browser on an intel-based mac?

If you do set Safari to run under Rosetta and want to listen to a Real stream, then here is what you might expect. Not all sites using the Real format use an embedded player. Many sites instead download a playlist to your default downloads page. Safari will not automatically open these files and you will need to double-click on them to get the stream started.
I just thought of something. Before setting Safari to run under Rosetta, go to a site with a Real stream and click on it. Then go to see if a playlist was downloaded (it probably will have a RealPlayer document icon and may have an .rm or .ram extension, but I have seen a new Real format extension recently, but I forget what it is). If the playlist is there, double-click on it and see what happens. If no playlist was downloaded, then you probably will have to run Safari under Rosetta to get Real Player to work.
You also need to run Safari under Rosetta to use other plugins, such as Windows Media Player.

  • Plugins for Safari

    Hello,
When I visit some webpages and click on video links I get a message like this:
... has content of MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
I do have the Real Audio player but what do I do to get a realaudio plugin for Safari?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The content may not be Mac compatible. Before going
    down that path:
An alias file of the plug-in ought to be in your
    Internet Plug-ins folder - RealPlayer
Plugin.plugin. Does one exist in your system?
This file connects to the original file buried in
    the RealPlayer application.
If it does exist, open Real Player by double clicking
on the application in your Applications folder. Then
    open the Preferences file>Internet panel:
Internet Settings - 1st and 3rd boxes checked
Web Browser settings - all boxes checked
Media Types - first four boxes checked.
Close the preference file, quit RealPlayer. Restart
    Safari.
If the alias plug-in does not exist, go to the
    Applications folder>RealPlayer.app>right click
    to open Contextual Menu>Show package
contents>Contents>MacOS. In that folder you ought to
see the actual plug-in. Single-click on the plug-in,
holding down the option/Apple keys. Then drag to the
desktop. This creates an alias of the file. Next
drag that file to your Internet Plug-ins folder
(either Main or User Library where your other
plug-ins exist) and drop it there. Restart Safari
and try a video or audio feed triggering RealPlayer
    (NPR is a good choice).
If the content does not play, please post a URL so I
    can test from here.
    Thank you for your help.
I downloaded the real player app and ctrl click on the icon to see the content files. Your directions were very good and much appreciated. - Barry

    Toast Titanium 6.0.3
Also, any tips on how to make a smooth upgrade?
    Thanks, Panther

    Hi Steve:
Technically, what you want to do is a simple update, which requires nothing more than running Disk Utility to repair permissions before and after you install the update.
Unless, you meant to say upgrading from 10.2.8 to 10.3.9, in which case the same holds true: repair permissions before and after. However, if this is the case, you'll also want to backup vital data files, and then use Disk Utility to also Repair Disk prior to running the upgrade.

    Hi biocanuck -
I haven't had the need to handle 'realplayer' media from Safari as of yet (only a month into this Macbook) - I went to your french site and had the same problem as you.
I then went ot this link and downloaded RealPlayer...

  • Safari and realplayer plug ins for Universal / osX 10.4.6

a new macbook pro - very happy except i cant do the basics like listen to audio streams from the BBC web site.
    they are asking for audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin
i cant find this anywhere...anyone know why this is?

    Hi Skinse,
Real has yet to release an Intel Mac-compatible version of Realplayer. For now, what you can do is force Safari to run under Rosetta. Generally speaking, a Universal application running Intel-code is incompatible with plugins compiled solely for the PowerPC, unless you run it under PowerPC-emulation, i.e. Rosetta.

  • RealPlayer Safari plugin won't work on Intel core duo iMac 20"

Real Player Safari plug in won't work on Intel coreduo iMac 20" to either listen to audi or to play video and I don't know whether it is a Safari issue, Rosetta issue, RealPlayer issue or all of the above. I am also concerned about asking Safari to run under Rosetta becasue this seems to defeat the point of getting the latest machine. Does anyone know what the problem is and the likely timescales for a fix? Thanks. John
PS. I am able to access the resources I want using stand alone RealPlayer and Firefox.

Hello, this happens because Power-PC-plugins usually can't cooperate with Intel-coded programs. I've experienced the same mess with the famous GraphicConverter and TWAIN plugins from Epson. Until Real will not offer Universal-coded plugins, you have to use the Rosetta-bridge with PPC program versions. In such case I generally prefer the FireFox browser.

  • .swf files downloading and opening in RealPlayer, not Safari

Every time I click on a link to an .swf file, instead of the file opening in Safari and playing, Safari downloads the file and attempts to open it in RealPlayer, which doesn't work. I'd prefer to simply be able to open the .swf directly in Safari (I can do this by dragging the downloaded file into a Safari window showing about:blank, but I'm lazy and would like to skip this seemingly unnecessary step). Any hints?

Check that in your Quicktime preferences, under MIME settings that SWF files are associated with that, or realplayer, then Safari should open them using the plugin - or make sure you have got the shockwave/flash plugin installed.
