RealPlayer on WiFi?

I have discovered the solution to my problem (posted many months ago):
I can't get RealPlayer to stream when I'm connected to the Net via Airport.
Is there a setting somewhere I can change?
The answer (from RealPlayer Help) is:
Why is stream playback stopping or failing to start when using a broadband or wireless connection?
Some versions of network hardware do not reliably provided streaming support using normal transports for RealPlayer. If you are experiencing problems, even after updating with the latest software and firmware available from your hardware manufacturer, try using HTTP transport exclusively.
To switch to HTTP exclusively:
Select RealPlayer > Preferences.
Open the Transport pane.
Select Use manually configured
Click Configure...
Disable (clear) all transports except HTTP.

Unless I'm mistaken Airtunes only works on iTunes audio.
To allow Realplayer etc. you need third party software such as Airfoil

  • Help for Realplayer Streaming over wifi Timecapsul...

I was successfully streaming radio and video (BBC) to the E71 over my home network - Mac Timecapsule being used as wireless router WPA2, password protected.
All of a sudden it stops "unable to connect" message when the Realplayer app tries to open a stream. I can still get onto the web via the correctly defined same access point for email, web browsing etc, it is just Realplayer that can't get the streams. I can also access an unencrypted network in my house and this works just fine with the Realplayer streaming. Tried the usual reboots, no luck.
I suspect it could be something to do with the router firewall settings, but as we haven't changed these and it worked previously I am a bit stuck.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.

I have that problem all the time with synced HD video. If I fast forward or rewind, the video will start sputtering after that. I don't think it's your network, it's probably a glitch in the ATV.
In any case, if you're streaming from a Mac via wifi, make sure you turn Time Capsule off. If it starts running while you're streaming, it will definitely degrade performance.

  • Mac OS 10.9 WiFi Issue: Safe boot needed

I started seeing a problem connecting to Wifi AP soon after the upgrade to 10.9.  (A similar thread exists on the discussion groups but not quite the same)
Essentially the problem I see after having upgraded to OSX 10.9.4 is "Connecting to a new wifi access point requires a safe boot".  Here is what I have to do in order to switch between two wifi APs -
    1.  Safe boot and connect to wifi AP1.
    2.  Then I can reboot normally any number of times and I will connect to AP!.
    3.  If I switch to AP2 now, I will get a "locally assigned IP".   Nothing can fix this - deleting wifi interfaces, re-adding wifi APs etc.
    4.  Safe boot and connect to AP2.
    5.  Now I can re-connect to AP2 successfully after a reboot.
PS.  I had to spend quite a few hours at the Apple genius bar to figure this workaround.
From a previous thread, following is the output from "EtreCheck" as needed from a previous thread -

  • Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks WiFi Issue

    Since I have upgraded to Mavericks I have experienced a problem connecting to wireless networks, all wireless networks regardless of security settings.  The system displays the exclamation mark and doesn't get an IP address from the router.  I have discovered a work around but it is very inconvenient and I would really like to get to the root cause and resolve the problem.  Here is what gets my WiFi working;
If I boot into safe mode, ie. hold down the shift key during reboot, WiFi connects normally.  After logging in to my laptop account I reboot and again the WiFi connects without issue.  If I then have to reboot the system again I will experience the same issue in receiving an IP address from the router.  In order to connect again I have to first boot into safe mode, etc.
    One other note, if after booting into safe mode I reboot without logging into my account the issue is not resolved the sequence must be;
    1) Boot into safe mode
    2) Log into account on laptop
    3) Reboot normally
Anyone have any ideas why booting into safe mode and then immediately rebooting resolves the issue?

  • Streaming Radio using Realplayer

Hi! Am new here so please be kind! I have an iBook, using realplayer to stream BBC RADIO 1, for some reason it doesnt work at al, it stutters, stops and starts and simply doesnt play - so far I have checked using wireless and also with a patch cable, have speed checked my connection and have tried other radio stations that play not using realplayer - I have also checked using my wifes standard windows laptop and this streams fine using a realplayer - any ideas what I can now check or do to avoid this?? It is driving me crazy

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I am using the latest version of realplayer and use safari as my browser - i live in berlin germany so think i can only use the realplayer. i think i have mac version 9 - not sure if that is correct or where i can find it - am a bit new and naive in mac world thanks for your help

  • Use of WIFI with N95 (RM-159) and a Netcam

    Hi,
First of all, do not discard my subject because my english  is not academic: I am French!
Here is my problem after many tries and tests:
Configuration: my N95 is connected in WIFI to a WIFI router. Other WIFI devices are also connected to that WIFI (NETGEAR) router: a PORTABLE PC and a NETCAM (D-LINK DCS-2120)
Note: the NETCAM has its own administration WEB
When I got the N95, my purpose was and still is to view the netcam video stream on the N95 (by using realplayer). This does not work.
    Tests:
-With the PORTABLE PC, visualisation of the netcam pictures is operationnal either by using HTTP (after loading an Active X to visualize the netcam) or realplayer: i.e http://192.168.1.x:1025 or rtsp://192.168.1.x:1032/live.rm .
-With the N95, the access point is in WIFI and with its browser, I can connect external sites (yahoo.fr), sites on my LAN (such as the administration WEB of the router) BUT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH THE NETCAM administration WEB(). It is important to note that with Internet Explorer on the PORTABLE PC it is quite easy to be connected to that netcam administration WEB. Therefore, the problem seems to be with the N95 browser or its parameters.
My concern and technical request: It appears that this issue might occur after a firmware update (currently 30.0.015 which is the last version). Before this F/W updating or a N95 parametrisation, the N95 was capable to get the welcome page of the WIFI NETCAM WEB  (http://192.168.1.x:1025 even without image because the N95 browser does not support the activeX technology). For information, to get an image (not the video) http://192.168.1.x:1025/cgi-bin/video.jpg used to work.
I would greatly appreciate that someone could help me because I have performed all the tests I am capable of (I am used to be a DP engineer)
    Thanks
    Best regards
    JCD

    Hi,
I have found a workaround but SHAME on NOKIA BROWSER.
I have loaded OPERA MINI and it works: I have got the page of my NETCAM even if it is not possible to get the video because OPERA does not support ACTIVEX (DCS-2120 requires an acticeX to be loaded the first time)
WHO IS GOING TO TELL NOKIA ABOUT THEIR BROWSER ISSUE?
I hope that my experience will help other N95 users.
Now, I am going to get the video stream with realplayer.
    Bye

  • Realplayer or Windows Media Player for iPhone

iphone is working fine for listening to programs that are podcast, but a lot of the stuff i want to hear is only available on realplayer or windows media player. don't really want to sit at my computer and listen to it, would rather do it at work where wifi is available and can use the iphone, but these players are not supported. is there any news on when this might become available, or if apple is even working on this at all? if not, is there any way to save that kind of file in itunes and then get it onto the iphone. sorry if my tech-talk stinks
Message was edited by: Gassy Wiener

No way to know, though a RM or WM player would require Real and Microsoft to program one.
There is a chance this will happen with the SDK coming in Feb.
Those files can be converted to an iPhone format (ie Quicktime) providing you have a converter and there are no DRM restrictions in place in the file.

  • I'm downloading using RealPlayer But the video playback is jerky.  The audio playback is OK.   Can anyone suggest a solution.  Would upgrading to RealPlayer Plus be a good thing to do?

I'm downloading using RealPlayer But the video playback is jerky.  The audio playback is OK.
Please can anyone suggest a solution.
PS Would upgrading to RealPlayer Plus help?

I can't understand how internet speeds can be the cause of the problem.  My problem with a jerky playback is that I have already down loaded.   Could this be to do with my computer (I maybe able to persuade my wife that I need a new one).  Earlier I was listening to a clip of the MJQ, downloaded from UTube, and although the sound was good the picture was not.
My computer is an iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo with a processing speed of 2.8 Ghz.  Does this information help?

  • Error streaming BBC radio feeds through RealPlayer...

    Problem
I am experiencing a problem with the version of Realplayer Mobile pre-loaded on a Nokia E90 running Symbian S60 (version s60.30.19.02M 10-May-2007 09:58:18). The problem occurs when trying to stream the BBC live radio feeds at www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/radio/listen after selecting an ‘RM’ feed there is a couple of seconds pause followed by the error message “Disconnected. Try connecting again?”
    Environment
The phone is connecting through my home wifi router (a Netgear WGT624v2) which acts as my network hub. This network hub services a home PC and a work laptop base station, via Ethernet cables, and also to various wifi devices such as PSP’s, laptops and the phone.
The internet connection is supplied by a broadband router (an SMC SMC7404 BRA UK) connected into the wifi network hub via Ethernet
All devices – the mobile, the hub, the broadband router – are running on the current firmware versions.
The wifi connection to the phone works for both web and email. Realplayer mobile plays video and music files.
    Further Information
I can successfully stream the www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/radio/listen feeds over my home PC (Windows XP service pack 3) using RealPlayer (Version 11.0.3 Helix Powered Build: 6.0.14.806) which obviously routes through the wifi hub and the broadband router.
On casting around various forums I notice that there may be an issue with Realplayer mobile using different ports than Realplayer. Although, there seems to be no official information on the port settings someone has suggested the range of 6970 to 7170 on UDP is correct. Although, I’m uncomfortable opening such a large range I have allowed port forwarding on the wifi hub to the mobile (no, the mobile is not using a static IP address but I have confirmed that the IP address is correct).
I have also opened both 6970 and 7170 ports on the broadband router for UDP (note not the full range.
Correspondingly, the Realplyer mobile Streaming settings on the phone are :
    Proxy->Use Proxy : “No”
    Network->Default Access point: “mywifihub”
    Network->Online Time: “Unlimited”
    Network->Lowest UDP port: “6970”
    Network->Highest UDP port: “7170”
    Help ?
I’m obviously looking for some guidance here. Can someone please solve my problem ?
    I’d like to know:
    • Why is realplayer mobile is connecting in a different way to realplayer ?
    • What are the ports that realplayer mobile requires, and why does it need them ?
    • Is there anything else I need to do to get this thing working ?
    Many Thanks,
    colin

The mobile listening page on the BBC site is OK for live streams, but if you want to listen to programmes that have already been broadcast, you need to go to the "listen again" page.
I have this working today, perhaps because the BBC have fixed it (I'm sure I tried the same thing the other day).
Here is an example for Radio 3:
    * Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/listen/index.shtml
    * Find the paragraph that starts: "But if you want to listen to a programme broadcast in the last 7 days..."
    * Click on the link: BBC Radio3 iPlayer
    * Choose the programme you wish to listen to. Episodes of
daily programmes can be found for the week after they have been broadcast: click on "show more episodes"
    * Click on the link of the programme you wish to hear.
    * A message comes up, inviting you to click on a link to listen in Real Player
    * Click that and Real Player opens. Adjust volume using right or left joystick button.
You cannot fast forward or rewind programme, but at least you can listen.
Wonderful. My only minor gripe now is the number of clicks necessary, but at least it works.
A quicker way, and definitely the best of you are using a normal computer rather than a smart phone, is to go to the programme's own page, and follow the link to the last programme(s). On S60 you get the invitation to click to open real player for less than a second, followed by the suggestion to instal Real Player.
Check it out in a few days, when I guess they'll have fixed this much more practical route.
Do post back if this works for you, or if anything is not clear.
I tried this on an E90, but I suppose any S60 phone should handle it.

  • Realplayer plugin doesn't work (the tab to dl doesn't appear and right-clicking reveals no dl option either) after update to FF4?

I have updated firefox to 4.0.1, but the realplayer plugin doesn't work (the tab to dl doesn't appear and right-clicking reveals no dl option like it should either).
I have IE 9 too and the same videos tried in FF can be dl'd there but not with the new FF4, and i've checked the plugin against this page: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using%20the%20RealPlayer%20plugin%20with%20Firefox#os=win&browser=fx4, but it's exactly as it says it should be, but there is not dl tab appearing like normal.
I have also tried updating to the latest realplayer and there's no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Restart your phone by holding the power and home button until the Apple logo appears. Be aware that some owners of iPhone 4 have had difficulty using WIFI after the upgrade.

  • N80 and Wifi

    Hi,
    I have an N80.
I've been having a play with it - its got some quirks which really annoy me, as well as some stuff which really impresses me. I'm still getting used to it - I've a few questions concerning it, but would like to ask them one at a time, as the answers will dictate which questions follow.
    Firstly - the WIFI..
My house is Wirelessed up all over. When out and about I've got to go into the settings (I'm on 3... I'm not a big fan of 3.. but the offer was too good) and switch everything back to use 3. When in the house, I've got to switch everything back to use Wifi.
This is a pain in the backside. The settings arnt global either - nb. I've got to change them for the browser, and change them for real player and change them for every other application that accesses internet. Its a pain.
Is there any way of the phone realising "BobsonsWifi" isnt present and automatically going to 3? I dont mind turning wifi on and off.. its just faffing with the damn settings each time for ever app. If this option is available with a third party app - I'd buy it.
Also... keylocking.. actually will save that for later..
Also, the phone will not stream BBC Radio 2 from the URL. I have had to download the RAM file from the BBC website - bluetooth it over to my phone, then open it through the text message interface. If I try and open this file any other way, or if I try and play the file via the link, it wont stream.. very odd.
So those are the first questions..
    Thanks,
    Bobson

You say you have to switch "everything". Define "everything" please.
In my experience all you need to do is set the phone to Always Ask for the acces point to use. I have mine set up this way, and when on the road I select to connect to my provider or a Hotspot WLAN, and at home it my own WLAN.
The streaming issue I've also encountered in that I also have been unable to stream from links on web pages. It just prompts me to save the RAM file, if I later try to open it with Realplayer nothing happens.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n Base Station blocking RealPlayer 11 completely

I am trying to play this radio station (just a brasillian sports channel) on RealPlayer 11:
    rtsp://real.rbsonline.com.br/liverbs/*/broadcast/rdgaucha/gaucha.rm
Which is completely blocked on my Airport Extreme 802.11n Base Station with the latest firmware update.
It even blocks when RealPlayer is configured for HTTP only.
I am using it on my iMac which is connected directly via a ethernet cable instead of wifi to the Airport Extreme 802.11n Base Station.
RealPlayer can play it fine when I plug my iMac directly to the cable modem so it proves is the router. I never had RealPlayer issues before when I was using a linksys router.
It does really feel like Apple put an intentional block on RealPlayer to stop competition.
Anyone seen this issue? Guess it is related with the BBC RealPlayer issue.

Fixed myself, problem was because I setup OpenDNS on base station, removed it now works

Hello there, you said it streams music ok, np. I own an N80 too and I tried everything to do just this. Could you play this link to a real audio stream and let me know if you were succesful ? If so, I would like to know what it is you did differently on your N80 ?

  • Help!  Safari / Firefox won't connect to internet on WiFi?!

I can't connect to internet using WiFi from Safari OR Firefox from my home WiFi (Apple WiFi router.)
    Here are weird facts:
    - They both work from this laptop at home using Ethernet
    - They both worked at AppleStore WiFI today
    - Internet at home is fine from other MacBook, iPad and 2 iPhones
AppleStore guy reset a lot of Safari and network settings, suggesting that would fix anything, but it still does not work from this laptop at home over WiFi?!
    Any ideas?!
    Thanks!
    Mark

Thanks, Linc.  FYI, I don't believe I've installed any new 3rd pary items for some time (although some of them may have updated to newer versions more recently?)
I've posted output from Terminal commands below.  Let me know what you see in it!
FYI, I've been considering updating to Lion OS.  Would that a) help me with this situation, and/or b) cause me other new problems?!
    Thanks,
    Mark
