Realtek high definition audio device - no sound

I just got a new PC and I can't get the sound to work. My PC has the following specs:
Microsoft Windows 7 (6.1) Enterprise Edition 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
DirectX Version 11.0
CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Mainboard Model Z68A-G43 (G3) (MS-7750)
BIOS
vendor American Megatrends Inc.
version V5.0
date 04/19/2012
My system is not muted
I have tried to update the driver from both Realteks and MSIs web pages - no luck.
I have tried to connect my headphones in both rear and front - no luck.
When I play audio - I do see green bars in under the playback tab under sound devices.
I do have the Realtek HD Audio Manager
I have noticed that when I mark "Disable front panel jack detection" in the Realtek HD audio manager, the headphones appears to be connected in the playback tab, when I uncheck it, the headphones seems to be disconnected in the playback tab.
Can anyone help me please
Kind regards
Sonderkar

  • No sound Realtec High Definition Audio Device

My HP Pavilion p6280t CTO Desktop has a Realtec High Definition Audio Device. In the Properties the device shows as working properly. I have the latest Realtek driver (6.0.1.5910). RealTec audio device is set as the default device.  Nothihg is set as muted. Speakers (RealTec) are plugged into the correct output jack. The speakers are getting power - verified my turning them off & then back on and hearing the slight pop of the power surge. The sound stopped a few weeks ago - don't know if a Windows update caused it. There is no sound period.  Thanks

    Hello @lpb07978,
I would like you to go into the Device Manager and actually remove the driver for your Audio and when prompted delete it. By doing this we will also remove any settings that are attached to the driver. This may not necessarily happen when we just install a driver so this will ensure the driver and any settings are clean.
The  next thing I would like you to try if the above does not work is go to the Control Panel and then go to Programs and Features and sort by install date. Look for anything that has been installed in the past months (try to guess around when the sound last worked). Document the applications, update, etc ... then uninstall them one at a time tracking which until you get sound back. If one of them is causing the issue this should fix it. Once you are done and the sound is back put the ones that were not the cause back.
If this does not work though we have two options rule our software completely with a backup of your personal files and a factory recovery or install another sound card. I know you are hesitant to do the factory recovery, but it does not cost money to do this and if the audio does not work at that point you know it is hardware related. To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.
***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Next, I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), which will you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory). All apps and software that were installed on the computer when it came from the factory are reinstalled, and their settings are reset to the defaults. Additionally, software, apps, programs, and everything that you have installed or saved on the computer are permanently removed.

There are a few things you can try.
    1) try another outlet in another room (different circuit group) to see if the sound is still present.
    2) If you are using a power protection device between your PC and the outlet and it is old replace it with a new one.
Even replacing the motherboard generally won't cure this issue as it isquite likely to be related to a problem in the (earthing) grounding and wiring in your home.
please post your results her in our tread.

  • No sound on Satellite A300 - Realtek High Definition Audio

I haven't had any audio on my A300 using Realtek High Definition Audio for 4 days now.  One minute it was playing a CD just fine using Windows Media Player.  When I closed it and tried to play another CD, the next minute, the sound was gone and gave me the error code - C00D11B1, The first time this happened to me a little over a week ago, I was able to do a system restore and that fixed the problem.  However, the next time it happened, the system restore didnt' work.  It kept giving me an error message saying that it could not be completed.
So, since then, I have tried everything I've read in the different forums:
    1.  I've reinstalled the Realtek driver
    2.  I've checked checked the Device Manager>Realtek - it said that the device was working properly.
    3.  I've checked the volume control and volume scroll wheel.
    4.  Tried plugging in a headset, but heard no sound on that either.
    5.  System restore still doesn't work 4 days later.
When I try to test the speakers.  I get the message "Failed to play test tone."
I'm out of ideas and I need to get this resolved.  Any other ideas I can try?
    Thanks.

Is this the driver you reinstalled?
Realtek Audio Driver for Windows Vista (32/64bit)

Not unusual. Sometimes the restore files get corrupted. The only way to fix it is to turn System Restore off and then on again. Unfortunately, that removes all of the old restore points.

  • HP High Definition Audio Device Code 10 Error -- Causing HDMI Sound Problem

Hey guys, my laptop is an HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j010dx Notebook PC, running Windows 8.1.
When I connect my laptop to my LG Smart TV through HDMI, I cant change the playback device to play the sound from the TV. The HDMI option does not appear in ¨Sound¨.
When I look in Device Manager, under Sound, video and game controllers; the High Definition Audio CODEC has an error which says (Device status):
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.
I have tried reinstalling and updating the drivers, cleaning and defraging the registry, optimizations etc.
I followed steps from other posts with similar problem as mine and nothing seems to work, I do not want to reinstall my windows just for this! I am running out of options, I tried everything I could for the past week. I would really appreciate some expert advice.

  • What EXACTLY are the 4 NVIDIA High Definition Audio devices on N570GTX - Win 8.1

    Hi guys,
one of my rigs runs an N570GTX on Win 8.1 64bit.
In Device Manager > Sound, Video and Game Controllers, there are 4 "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" listed.
I use 337.88 drivers (NVIDIA Control Panel version 7.7.760.0).
What is the purpose of EACH of these 4 devices:
As a side note, my other rig running an N660GTX on Win 7 64bit only shows 1 "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" in Device Manager > Sound, Video and Game Controllers.

Okay, by examining the devices (enabling, disabling, reading driver data), I can conclusively state that one of the drivers (in my case residing in Location 1) is exclusively tied to the HDMI port on my GPU –  when I disable it, my HDMI device (I have only one; shame, because I can't isolate the devices better) stops being listed in Windows Sound Control Panel; when I disable all other devices except that one, my audio over HDMI works fine – this leads me to believe that the other ones are not really essential codecs required for HDMI audio, but are instead related to the individual audio outputs.
In summary, assuming the other two devices (residing, for example, in Location 0 and Location 2) are for audio output on DVI ports (usable via DVI->HDMI adapter/cable), there's still one NVIDIA High Definition Audio device (residing in, say, Location 3), which doesn't seem to be in use in relation to some sort of global codec mechanism (since I can disable it without affecting my HDMI port audio output), that is unaccounted for!
Any idea what other output can the remaining device be linked to, since GTX570 has no S/PDIF pass-through connector on the board itself (to connect it to the motherboard's S/PDIF output)?
Could the remaining device be there only as a legacy stub for S/PDIF connector which was present on the pre GeForce 400 Series cards, since they share the same NVIDIA drivers with the post-Tesla series?
But in that case, why does my GTX660 list only one NVIDIA High Definition Audio device in Win 7 64bit?
Quote from: Nichrome on 02-July-14, 19:33:05
Apart from the sound you can get through HDMI (which would be 1 or 2 of these in management), it provides your board with some "HD Sound Drivers" which takes another 1 or 2 of these.
I have quite few of these too even on my old laptop (with Nvidia card): x4 Nvidia High Definition Audio, x1 Cyberlink WebCam, x1 Realtek HD and x1 Bluetooth sound.
Your specs read that you have a GTX770 running on Win 7 64bit; do you also have four of the Nvidia High Definition Audio devices? Or just one? Thanks!

A game I've been trying to play always crashes, and the tech people told me to update my drivers. I updated my video card without a hitch, but for the audio drivers I get this error for my realtek high definition audio driver:

No one out there has any ideas what I can do? Apparently this should help me play my game, although it still crashes even after I updated my video card drivers, I don't see why my audio drivers would make it crash but it would still be nice to be able to update them just to be sure thats not the reason its crashing.

  • High Definition Audio device

I just installed Windows 7 for a friend on a Dell Vostro 220 and there were two High Definition Audio devices in Device Manager. When I installed the Realtek HD driver, one became Realtek High Definition Audio but the other remained as High Definition Audio Device. When I disabled Audio in bios then both disappeared from device manager. There is no HDMI on this pc.
What is this High Definition Audio Device?

INTEL or AMD or NVIDA integrated Graphics can also have this. Which can be
    Graphics Controller: Intel Q43/Q45/G43/G45 (Eaglelake)
Audio:  Creative Labs PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi
    R222887.exe
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    R196472.exe  32 Bit Driver
There are no 64 bit drivers or support.
    MS Windows 7 32-bit
    MS Windows Vista 32-bit
    MS Windows XP
None of these devices enumerate properly without chipset drivers being installed first.

  • HP ENVY TS 15 Notebook PC: Problems installing audio driver (High Definition Audio device)

    Hello all,
My product is the HP ENVY TS 15 Notebook PC.
    Product number: E3B65PA#AR6
    OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
A few days ago, I  upgraded my windows from windows 8 to windows 8.1 and found that no sound coming from the HDTV when connecting my HDMI cable however video is perfectly fine. I was completely baffled because the audio was working perfectly fine before upgrading to Windows 8.1. I have tried several solutions posted on other forums, such as installing other drivers, and uninstalling the IDT High Definition Audio Driver and then scanning for a hardware change. I have checked the HDMI cable and it is working fine with other laptop.
Device manager is showing 2 device :
High Definition audio device ( Showing yellow traingle)
      IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
When I am opening the properties of High Definition audio device it is showing :
This device cannot start (code 10)
    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.
If anyone knows how to fix the problem, please help me
    thanks in advance

    Hi:
The IDT audio driver (notebook speakers) appears to be working fine.
The problem is probably with the Intel graphics driver which  controls the HDMI audio.
My recommendation would be to install the latest Intel graphics driver from the link below and see if that fixes the problem.

  • AMD High Definition Audio Device Not Plugged In (HP Pavilion dv6-6b09sa)

I have just booted up my HP Pavilion dv6-6b09sa (running on Windows 7) laptop to find that the sound icon has a red cross next to it and it claims that 'No speakers or headphones are plugged in'. In the Control Panel it states that the AMD High Definition Audio Device is Not Plugged In. As far as I know, I've done nothing to cause this.I have already tried:System restore to yesterday at 10pm;Instalation of a TDI driver from the HP website, however I do not know how to edit/disable/delete the old driver. I'm completely clueless about these things. Please help, I'm at a complete loss.

This happened to me too. I own an HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr (Windows Vista). The internal hard drive stopped working, I took it to a computer repair shop, they put in a new internal hard drive, asked Microsoft for a key code and jump started the laptop. I took it home with me yesterday, watched a few videos and wondered why the sound wasn't working. The volume light on the laptop base was indicated as red (which meant the volume was off, even when the volume on the laptop screen was on). The only way I was able to hear sounds from videos was when I put my ear phones on.
I read somebody say that this happened to them and they restarted/rebooted their computer. I did that and, expectedly, it didn't work.  I came across this page, opened up "Device Manager," opened up "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." Right-clicked the "IDT Device" and then uninstalled it. My laptop then restarted and thankfully the sound was back up. I didn't need to download anything or right click the "IDT Installer" or "Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button" or any of that. It thankfully came back without me having to do any of that. I restarted/rebooted my computer to see if it was a fluke, and thankfully it worked again.  Now I don't have to use my ear phones. My ears didn't like being pumped with sound, even when it was on low. My "Digital Display Audio" is still not checked green. It says that it's "not plugged in." But hopefully I won't run into this problem again in the future. Because if I'm a week or two or a month removed, the repair people I initially went to for my internal hard drive problem, will say that this was a separate issue caused by me and will charge me extra, when it was in fact caused by them (not maliciously of course, I guess this kind of thing happens when you replace a hard drive, as do a lot of other things which I'm not beginning to see). Thanks DavidPK.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59291.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow thisand then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Start the notebook and let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
    Regards,
