Reapply Slide Master to Keynote Slide

Does anyone know how to reset the slide layout on a Keynote slide—to make the slide layout revert to the slide master?

Hello
In the Keynote 2 User Guide, one may read:
If you already have a slide presentation that you created in MacrHard PowerPoint or AppleWorks, you can import it into Keynote and continue to work on it. Simply drag the PowerPoint or AppleWorks document icon onto the Keynote application icon.

  • Where is the "allow objects on slide to layer with master" in Keynote 6??

Upgrading to Keynote 6 has broken my presentations. I had borders on the master slides, supposed to appear over any other content.
Now the content of the slides systematically goes over the master slide. I searched the web and found that in previous versions there was a "allow objects on slide to layer with master" option.
Where is it now?? Anyone has an idea?
    Thanks

FYI, this is the error message I'm getting when opening the presentation. "Slide objects were moved in front of master objects"

  • Changing the Second Master in Keynote '09

I've just defined a new theme with a master that I made. Now, for each new slide, I want to apply the same master. But, every time I hit New+, it makes a new slide with some default second master that I don't want. How do I make each new slide be created from the same master as the first one?

I just created a new presentation to test what I told you, and it works. So maybe I didn't describe it accurately above.
Let's try it again in small steps, using an entirely new (your tutorial) presentation:
    1. Open KN, select a theme, create a title slide (name it MASTER TEST, or whatever). By default, all first slides of a newly-created presentation will use the master "Title & Subtitle". Before you go on, click on the MASTERS icon at the top of the page to verify this: the list of all masters will drop down, and the first master, "Title & Subtitle" will be checked.
    2. Press ADD+ to add a second slide. By default, this will be in the format of a master for "Title & Bullets". (By default, every new slide, a slide added by ADD+, will be in the same format of the master of the slide you just completed EXCEPT for the second slide, which is ALWAYS in the format "Title & Bullets", and NOT in the format "Title & Subtitle".) Again, click on the MASTERS icon, and you'll see that now the master "Title & Bullets" is checked. Type "1" in the title, and "Title & Bullets" in the text box.
    3. Press ADD+ to add another slide. This will again be in the format "Title & Bullets". (click on the MASTERS icon again to confirm the checkmark there) Type "3" in the Title, and "still Title & Bullets" in the text box.
    4. ADD+ another slide. This, again, will be in the format "Title & Bullets". Type "4" in the Title, and "Title & Bullets - right" in the text box. Now click on the MASTERS icon. In the drop-down list, go way to the bottom, where you'll find the master "Title & Bullets- right", and click on that master, which will "check" it. As you did, the slide you just created got rearranged according to the new master you just chose.
    5. ADD+. Your new slide will now be according to the master "Title & Bullets - right". Clicking on the MASTERS icon will confirm this.
    6. Click ADD+ a few more times. Every new slide will be in the same format as the one before it.
You have so far in this tutorial made no use of any new, defined-by-you masters, but only used the ones supplied out of the box. I'll assume everything worked as described. I can't imagine it didn't.
    7. NOW, with the last slide you made on the screen, click the MASTERS icon and choose a master of your own design, and apply it (check on it) to that slide. The slide should conform to your newly-chosen master.
    8. ADD+. The new slide will be in the format you designed. Check the MASTER icon drop-down to confirm this.
Sorry I made this so tedious, but I hope you now get the idea.

  • Master & slide title or object linking?

    greetings,
i've been using keynote for a few years. i'm using keynote version 5.0.4, which is the current version. i compiled a presentation recently by copying slides from older presentations. i've made a newer master and have reassigned the master slide for the slide to be the same. however, the titles on the slides are not getting relinked to the master slide title. so changes to the master title style are not being reflected in the individual slides for most slides.
i've played with the "inspector" -> slide -> appearance to see if i can for the title to relink to the master, without success. so far the only way i've found to get the slide titles to connect to the new master is to insert a new slide and copy the slide body and presenters notes to the new slide. then i select the text in the old slide title and "paste & match style" in the new slide.
but my presentation is around 140 slides. and i don't want to have to do this to all of them to be able to globally control the style of the slide title.
i've searched some of the posts and haven't seen this addressed before. does anyone have any suggestions about how to relink the slide titles if they are no longer linked?
    thanks for any suggestions.

    ahh! i found it...
1- select the object, in this case the title
    2- right click
3- pop-up menu shows "reapply slide master to selection"
i spent about an hour yesterday fooling around this this, trying different things, and did't figure it out...
so in case someone else needs it, here it is...

  • Automatic way to add random slide / bullet transitions?

    Hello everyone,
I have tons of old presentations that have bullet points, but no bullet point builds or slide transitions. I have been manually adding the transitions / builds myself slide by slide, but is there a way (or an automator workflow?) that anyone knows of that Keynote can randomly add these? It would be a huge time saver!
    Thanks for any ideas!
    -Vincas

    randomly? eeew.
You can add builds to a bullet box on the master slides, and then reapply the master slides to your regular slides, that'll give you text builds right away.

  • Font Issues - slides won't hold formatting

Everytime I open an existing presentation, all fonts on all slides default to Helvetica. I have to "reapply master to slide" for all slides - EVERY TIME I open the document. Not a font issue - it's Arial Bold - and the formatting is correct on the Master, and Keynote is recognizing the font. Why won't my slides hold their formatting?
Also, I get "missing font" when launching app - it says Markerfelt-thin is missing, even though I never had such a crappy looking font. Anyway, installed it - and can now select test and change font to Markerfelt - and it displays fine. Still get the "Missing Font" message anyway. Keynote is clearly recognizing that I have it loaded, why the message?
    Thanks.

I too am having this font issue in Iwork 06, but only on one machine in our office.
Even if we try to change the colour of a word on any presentation that we open on the machine the font changes to Helvetica Condensed Bold. When we turn the font off and we get a message that the font is missing on every slide and the master slide, but it's not anywhere on the slides. We never use this font for presentations.
    It's a pain. Wish I had a solution...really I wish I had one to share.

  • Slides advance, but programmed as Click

I created a presentation, then saved it to put onto a website. On the latter version I used the Inspector to Automatically advance the slides with varying delays. Now I am trying to show the presentation by click advancing but it is stuck in Automatic. I reapplied the Master and that deleted the marks on the lower right corner of each slide, but had no effect upon the advancing which remains automatic.
How do I remove the delay and have it advance only with a click. This sure looks like a BUG!

there are two places that I know to set this:
#1 in the Document tab of the Inspector, there's a pop-up that should be set on Normal or Hyperlink only (though if you don't have any hyperlinks, don't use that setting)
#2 In the QT export window, it should be set on Manual Advance

  • List of useful NEW features in Keynote '13

There's a long thread on features that are missing in the update.  Some changes are quite annoying.  However I'm also noticing a lot of useful new features beyond the top-level things that get reported in news articles.  Here are some.  Please add to the list.
Text boxes can take any shape so text flows in a specific way you want it to, such as around a curved shape — awesome special case of the next feature.
Format > Shapes and Lines > Make Editable allows you to edit bezier points of an object. Note: inconsistent functionality — weirdly, does not work for curves or connection lines, for example.
Vastly simpler and more beautiful way of editing Bezier points: simply hover mouse between two existing points and a new one appears for you to grab onto if you want it.
Edit shapes with unite / intersect / subtract (under Format > Shapes and Lines).  E.g., take a bite out of an object.
Connection lines (under Insert - > lines).  Like magnets in OmniGraffle: the end of the line attaches to another object and moves with it.  But very limited halfhearted implementation: not every object type can be connected to, you can’t designate positions on the object to connect to, nothing else in the interface even tells you whether the line is a connector or not, there’s no way to switch it on an off for a particular object, etc…
Magic Move transitioncan match text boxes with some text changes (inserting words or letters)
Format > Shapes and Lines > Make motion path from shape (haven’t tried this)
Insert comments tagged with your name and optionally attached to certain objects
Fewer floating windows (panel on right instead)
    Negative things worth noting:
The new keynote autosaves, even when this destroys compatibility with older versions of Keynote.  So if you want to try editing an old presentation, and you might want to still use it in the old Keynote, make a copy first.
The new Curve object (click the Shape toolbar button, and it’s in the top right) is very strange and you might want to avoid using it.  It doesn’t seem to be a “first class” object like others.  You cannot add Bezier points, and strangely, you can’t even rotate it!  Instead, add a straight line and then add a Bezier point to it.
Cannot reapply master to selection (can only apply to entire slide)
Bezier nodes have only a point, not the two handles, so they’re less flexible
Old themes can fail to work correctly.  Not only if there are animations in the master, as has been reported elsewhere; one of my themes incorrectly displays paragraphs as bullets, until I manually tell it to reapply the master to the slide.

The viewable area is centered now. So, you can stage objects off-slide to the top or left very easily.
No more fiddling with a button to scale. Now, as with most drawing apps, pinch can zoom in and out quickly
Right-to-left language text (like Arabic and Hebrew) builds actually WORK!
Have an image and want to replace it with an updated version (or one that's customer specific)? You can now replace images in place quickly
    Negative thing worth noting
No longer possible to tweak the file manually to create rounded joins on lines (or rounded butts on dashes for that matter). If you have an old file you manually updated, those still work in the latest version (I've posted a presentation here that uses lines with rounded corners instead of mitered corners to show the difference https://www.icloud.com/iw/#keynote/BAI2xMm7NsSaRKQ1wayBKy6a3BIs7ZO7W1OE/Symbols_ ME_11)

  • How to attach an object back to its source in a master page?

    Hello,
on a content page I can access objects from the assigned master page using the Ctrl+Shift+LeftClick combination. By doing so I detach many attributes of this object from the master page specifications. How to reset an object and attach it back to the source object of the master page?
If you are a PowerPoint user, the option reapply slide layout may be familiar to you (this function resets all format overrides to the master settings). I am looking for a similar function in InDesign.

I really looking for a way to change the position of the second and third text boxes relative to other items on the page.
An overriden master page item will still respond to its master's position if its position on the page after overriding hasn't been changed. So, you can have the "directions" box on the master page, override it, add text, and as long as you don't move its x, y position in the process of adding text, it can be moved via the master page in the future. The key is not to move it in the editing process.
Same goes for other attributes. If the fill color is red, you can change it to gray from its master later, as long as you don't change the page item's fill to pink in between.
It's also possible to match a changed page item's attributes to its master via scripting.
So for example if you had a 3" text box on the master and there was 100 pages with the text box, and in the editing process 50 had their width changed to varying widths and later you decided you needed a 4"width— a simple script could loop through all the pages and reset the changed widths to match the master's new 4" width.

  • Everytime I copy pages from one ID CS3 doc to another, it re-applies the master page objects!!

    Please Help,
This is a topic I would really like to get to the bottom of.
We have InDesign CS3 templates for creating our reports.
These templates contain around 10 different master pages with grey placeholder image boxes and text boxes with dummy text.
When we copy pages from one ID document to another, all the master page objects that were originally assigned to the pages are re-applied!!
Resulting in lots of grey dummy boxes and text boxes re-appearing on top of the page items!!
It's so annoying because we always customise the pages once we've pulled down master pages to work on, so when we copy pages across to other documents we have to apply the blank master to be able to kick out all the master objects easily.  Then we need to add the page numbers and footers back onto the blank master page.
My question is, is there a way to switch this off, so when I move or copy pages from one document to another, nothing happens relating to master page objects, the pages simply just copy across as they are?
Please help!  If not I may have to ask an external developer to write a script to fix this, it drives 900 of us crazy!
thanks in advance for any help.
Or am I just being ridiculous and not actually realising you can switch this off, doh!
    G

Just a bit of further clarification on this issue (very few people really understand what's going on with master pages and overridden master page items):
When you override a master page item, the object is moved to a local page, but a connection is maintained with the original master page item. This a) allows for the override to be removed (and return the object to its original state). This also, b) allows for changes made to the original master page item (other than the changes made to the local item from the point that it was overridden) to effect the local item as well.
When the connection to the master page item cannot be maintained, the local item gets disconnected totally from the master page, and becomes a regular, run-of-the-mill page item.
In light of this, there's three ways you can end up with duplicate master items:
Reapplying a master page (or applying a new one). When you reapply a master, all overridden master page items get detached from the master, and the original mster page item appears again in its original state. Most of the time this produces unwanted duplication of objects. To fix up your page, you have two options: a) Delete the master page item, and b) copying the contents of the original to the new master page item. The disadvantage of "a" is that you end up with an item which is totally detached from the master, and changing the item on the master will have no effect on the local item. The disadavantage of "b" is that it's a lot of work...
Moving a page to a different document. When you move a page to a different document which has the same master as the one originally applied, the master in the new doc is applied, and the effects are identical to reapplying a master page (i.e. overridden objects are detached). If the applied master (i.e. a master with the same name) does not exist in the new doc, the master is transferred over to the new doc along with the page, and the connections to the master page are preserved (well, re-created actually...). The workarounds in case #1 apply here as well.
When page sides change in a document, the objects on the facing page appears.
What happens here is a bit confusing, but here's an approximate explanation:
When you apply a master to a page or spread in InDesign, what you are actually doing is applying an entire spread to an individual page. You can thing of a master spread as an overlay (or more precisely: underlay) on the page with a window cut out to the exact page dimensions.
When the page side changes that "window cut-out" shifts to show the master spread items which correspond to the position within the spread of your current page (i.e. recto or verso). All objects which exist outside the window shift out of view (but still exist!).
When an object is overridden, the position of the object is defined by its location on the local page, NOT its position on the master spread. When the page then changes sides, the object remains where it was on the page (even though the object it's connected to on the master spread moves out of the window of view). A corresponding object on the facing page of the master (if it exists) will then show in addition to the overridden one.
Now remember: contrary to the first two cases, both objects are based on master ones: one visible one and one invisible one.
Dealing with this third case requires much more care than the first two.
The obvious way to deal with this would be similar to the first two, but if you remove the local object and transfer the content to the new maste object, the invisible master object on the non-visible page was actually removed, so when the page sides change again, the object will now be connected to the now-invisible master page item, and the correct master page item will be gone!
The "correct" way to deal with this would be to transfer the content to the new master page item and remove overrides (not delete!) on the local item (which will make it disappear, because it moves back to the invisible page). Of course, when page sides change again, it becomes necessary to repeat the entire process.
If the local object gets deleted, then your master spread is missing objects with no visible indicator of the fact. This can lead to confusion when the document might be edited at some later point in time.
I believe that this complicated and un-intuitive behavior of master pages is part of the reason people tend to avoid using master page items. Documents tend to get messed up in really odd ways... It's a real shame, because extensive use of master page items has a lot of potential for streamlining workflows and saving an awful lot of time. This behavior really puts a damper on really using master pages as templates.
Getting master page items to work the way they "should" was a big part of what I was trying to accomplish with AutoFlow Pro... When the master page items are defined as such (i.e. given a unique name), AutoFlow Pro solves all three of the above issues by keeping overridden master page items connected to the master page items on the currently applied master (and when a new master is applied as well!).
(When I have a bit of spare time, I think I'll write this up on my blog with some visuals to make this easier to grasp...)

  • Copying master pages between documents.

I Am laying out a book with 36 chapters and I formatted my master page and completed Chapter One.  Chapter Two is a new document and I want to carry over Master-A to each successive one.  I believe there must be a way to do it, but nothing I have tried works.  I am using Windows 7 and InDesign 5.5, version 7.5.

I created a new master page template and added my first chapter to it.  Everything except the chapter title from the master page footer appeared on the pages.  I went to the master pages and deleted the chapter title and then replaced it and reapplied the master to all pages.  The chapter title still did not come up on the document pages.

  • Pagination changes result in master objects moving

Whenever my pagination changes, either from documents in my book starting on an even page, or by inserting a page the objects set in my master pages move (generally toward the gutter). I can reapply the master page as a fix and select the option of using the master page size to put the objects back where they should be.
This issue does not occur when I start from a template that I did not create and is known to not have this issue, but once I start making edits to the objects on the master pages that are necessary for my project the issue pops up. I'm duplicating existing boxes. And the perplexing thing is that when I just have "Words" in the boxes for my headers the issue does not occur, but when I enter the actual text that I need for my project it does. When I go back to "Words" the issue doesn't occur anymore. The text fits in the box, no preflight errors. The issue is popping up on my machine and one of my colleagues.

    1. You need to load the heirarchy along with product master data.
    2. You dont need any downtime for transaction data; guess you have delta.
    3. reg queries ( especially after change in hierarchy structure), the users should be educated of the change. If you have any hier variable on a any node and if that node is gone with change in hier, then you have to take care of that.
    4. If you have any variable on a hier node, the query will give error, if that node has gone as a change in the hierarchy.

  • Use different master spreads with autoflow

    Hello,
I have an XML document which I import into InDesign and apply some paragraph styles via XSL and the aid:pstyle attribute. This works fine and I can apply master spreads to pages with special paragraph styles by scripting.
The problem is, that I use the autoflow function of InDesign CS5 and this creates pages which all base on the same master spread. If I reapply another master spread to a page manually the master (text frame) objects lie in the background; the already flowed text stays in text frames on top of the master text frames and doesn't flow through the new master text frames. I even don't know how to reflow this manually - not to mention how to do it by script.
Has someone any idea how to achieve this reflow or how to use multiple master spreads with the autoflow function (maybe there is a configuration possibility to automatically select the master spread according to a paragraph style)?

Nope. (well, of course it's always good to set it up before you start...)
New master threads can be created after flowing the text too.
If someone really messes up the setup, AF Pro even has a "Rebuild Current Story" option which will pick up everything about the master text frames even after the text in flowed into the document.
I'm really proud of how it works!

  • Customize text on Book Album Master Page?

How can I change the text style of the text in a metadata text box on a Book Album Master Page, other than selecting from the limited choices in the "Set Text Style" drop-down list?  I would like to customize the font family, size, and color.
I am working with a Custom Theme (having given up on modifying the existing themes).
I can change the text parameters applied to the text boxes on the Master Page, but those changes are not applied to the text boxes based on that Master Page (even after reapplying the Master).  Those changes _are_ "held" by the text boxes on the Master Page, however.
    Thanks!

With Metadata Boxes, when I select the box in "Edit Layout" mode, no changes made via the Fonts dialog are applied.
The metadata boxes seem to be built rigidly into the themes.
Assuming that is correct  , is there any way to add to or modify the styles shown in the "Set Text Style" drop-down?
I have not tried to change the behaviour. There is a list of textstyles for the custom book template inside the Aperture Application bundle:
    /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/CustomBookTemplate/TextStyles.plis t
When I open this file in Xcode I am seeing a list of fonts for Title, Cover Title, etc.
The EXIF properties are formatted in
    /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/CustomBookTemplate/TextStyles.plis t
Probably you could create a new custom template by creating a copy of /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/CustomBookTemplate  and editing these files in the copy, but as I said, I never tried this.
