Rear audio port problem

My front audio port works just find, but the rear seems to be dead. Is this a known problem with the Mac Pro?

Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I had to take my first Mac Pro back foor a dead rear port. They are really poorly constructed. Even when it works there is a ton of play in the jack. Very typical of PC motherboard mounted audio jacks too. No surprise the Mac Pro shares this problem.
Any hard yank or pull probably has a good chance of doing damage the way the plug fits in.
Make sure you have Line Out selected in the sound control panel too.

  • Z68A-GD80 G3 rear audio port problem

Just built his system a couple of weeks ago. My first build. When I first started the system, I was using the integrated graphics. I had my speakers plugged into the green audio jack on the MB, and it worked fine. Used it like this for a couple of days while transferring programs, photos, etc. I was never able to get the HDMI port working to set up both monitors, so I removed the graphic card from my old computer (GE Force 210), installed it in the new computer and installed the NVIDIA drivers for it. This got both monitors working, but then I found the sound was not working. I tried connecting the speakers to the surround sound ports and they worked, but at a very low volume. I finally connected the speakers to the front speaker port. This works but the sound quality is not very good. I get random? static noises.
I had it this way for a few days while I tried to troubleshoot the problem. It seemed like the problem started after installing the graphic card and drivers, so I removed them and tried it again. Still the rear speaker port did not work. Also, at this time I tried to get the dual monitor setup working again. I had found that the IGD multi-monitor setting was disabled, and assumed that was why I could not get both monitors working the first time around. After enabling this setting, still could not get both monitors working. No HDMI.  I am really not too concerned about this, as I plan to get a better graphic card, but thought that it might be related to the audio port problem.
I believe there is a newer version of BIOS, but I am not sure if that is something that I want to tackle. Does anyone have any ideas of what could cause this? Thanks.
    Monty

Not real sure of this since I haven't been personally involved in it, but the HDMI problem could be related to a cable issue? HDMI 1.4 versus older types? Monitor v1.4 compliant, etc.?
A battery removed CMOS clear & reset may be of help. It's worth a try. If the sound was clear & worked normal before, I doubt a UEFI/BIOS update would be of benefit. Something hardware related, drivers, or the way the OS is responding are my guesses for the sound problem & static.
A corruption in Windows is always a possibility. Doing a fresh install of the OS may help. Maybe before that extreme, using a utility like driver sweeper to get a fresh start with the audio drivers. Presume the speaker system is a self powered unit?

  • Front and Rear Audio - Possible?

I've been fairly frustrated lately because my computer seems to be behaving randomly.
Since the beginning of the summer I had my computer set up to play audio through both a front panel headphone jack on my case and the rear ports.  Now things have somehow magically changed and I can't get audio to come out of the rear ports.
I have my front panel jumpers connected to the JAUDIO2 jumpers (specifically, ground to 2, right signal to 5, and left signal to 9 - the only other connectors I have from the front panel are mic signal and mic ground).
In theory, hooking up the front panel disables the rear audio ports (because 5/6, 9/10 aren't shorted) but in the past I had my rear speakers hooked up to the ports on the back of my computer and my headphones hooked up to the front panel and could use whichever one I wanted. Now I can't get the rear ports to work at all (possibly because I don't have jumpers around to short 5/6 and 9/10 but I was hoping that it wouldn't matter)
Any ideas on how to fix this?

    puuj,
My case's front audio is a pass-thru from the back on-board panel, so i don't have a special connector.  I believe Matrix and a few others have a connector directly to onboard....
You should leave those jumpers shorted (JA2).

  • No sound from rear audio out port?

    Hey guys.
I am trying to troubleshoot a sound issue with a Vista Home Basic machine.
I can't really give you all the MOBO specs etc because I am not currently in front of the machine. I can however confirm that it is using a Realtek chipset and is configured using the Realtek Sound Manager software.
I am really just wanting to use basic sound (i.e. just speaker, not 5., 7. etc).
I am trying to make use of an old stereo system by using a 3.5mm aux jack to dual RCA (white and red) plugs.
I can get sound when I plug the aux jack into the front earphones port but I cannot get sound when I try and use the analogue audio out (lime green) port at the rear of the machine. Vista states that it is working correctly and has a tick next to the speakers but no sound is produced by the speakers.
The MOBO has the following available audio connectors:
Analogue = Mic in (Pink) Audio in (light blue) Audio out (lime green)
Centre Speaker (Orange) Rear Surround (Black) Mid Surround (Grey)
    Digital = x SPDIF
You may ask at this point, why not just use the front headphones jack? Well, the problem is that it seems to be very sensiti've in that Vista keeps reporting that the jack is cycling between a connected and disconnected state.
I also cannot use the SPDIF, as the old stereo only supports aux left and right RCA.
Also, when I try and get one of the rear ports to work, I have made sure that nothing is connected to the sound ports at the front as I know that this can cause problems.
When I plug in the 3.5mm jack into the green port, the Realtek sound manager kicks in and says that "a jack as been connected". I then confirm that I have infact connected the jack to the rear audio out port. I then follow the steps in the wizard but am not able to get sound.
I made sure that I used the most basic settings (i.e. speakers and not 5. etc).
I even tried the grey, black and orange ports (even though I know they are used for surround sound setups) and still no luck.
One interesting setting I did notice was that in Winamp, I had to select the "allow mono speaker" setting to have it play sound through the front headphones port.
However, when I was configuring the rear green port in the Realtex Sound Manager software, there was no mono option. There was only stereo, 5., 7. and some quad....... thing.
Any ideas guys on how to get the rear green port working?
I am wondering if it has something to with a connector on the MOBO. But as I said, Vista and Realtek manager seem to report that all is well.
    My thanks in advance.

  • Need all 5 audio ports

I have 5.1 speakers that works fine with the onboard soundcard :D , but recently i've added a tv tunner in my pc... and apparently  8o  it requires my line-in port.
is there anyway i can use all 5 audio ports at the same time? some mods maybe?  )
    thx

hmm you're right about the front panel
but one BIG problem, enabling the front panel will disable the rear panel ?( ... and besides that, the front panel is for the line-out (which is not shared) and mic (not line-in)
well... i guess I'll have to buy new sound card..*sigh* :(
    any recommendation on this?
I'm thinking of getting either Fortissimo III or Audigy.
one last thing, My CPU temp is 50° C. how normal is that?
(btw its a P4 1.8 G overclocked to 2.4 by rising fsb to 133, its stable though... )

Hey folks. I hopped on my computer today to discover that the front audio output port as well as all but the main audio output ports in the rear have failed. I've tested them with my headset as well as my monitor's speaker system. The only port that is still functioning is the main audio port in the rear of the computer. Is this a firmware problem? Or is it something with my motherboard?

If you paid Staples to set up your computer then the audio should be working too, I'd take it back and make them finish the job right.
Go to the Sound option using the Control Panel and under the Playback tab make sure that Speakers is enabled and is the default device. Also make sure that you have an RCA audio cable connected to the computers green audio output connector on the back of your computer and to the speaker input on your monitor. Make sure that the volume is not muted and is turned up high enough for you to hear it on both the computer and the monitor.

  • Firewire 800 front port problem

I'm using an RME Fireface 800 audio interface, which is a Firewire 800 device. When I hook it up to the front FW800 port on my Mac Pro, it is periodically disconnecting while in use (using Logic, Final Cut Pro, etc.). To be clear, I don't mean that the cable is physically disconnecting, but rather that the interface disappears from the operating system while still attached and powered up.
When I use the rear FW800 port I'm not having this problem, at all.
Can anyone think of an explanation other than perhaps my front FW 800 port is screwed up? Has anyone else had this issue?
    Thanks...

    Hi John,
Yep, exactly the same problem I had with my Mac Pro's front FW800 connection and the FF800. The problem in the end turned out to be because I had my SSL Duende mini plugged into the rear FW400 port. Have you got any other firewire devices plugged in? The FF800 really dislikes sharing a bus with anything else, which is why I went out and bought a PCIe FW400 card and now all my devices have their own bus and all works just as you'd expect. Hope that helps, cheers.

  • Rear Firewire ports have left the building!

The rear firewire ports on my MacPro have stopped working (800 and 400)
Not recognizing hard drives or Audio devices.
The ones on the front still work but are making problems when connecting 400 and 800 together.
What can I do to solve this problem of fix it?
    HELP!!

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work! Usually they all stop at the same time though.
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that didn't work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
If that still didn't get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
A bad internal PRAM battery can also cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!
Also, here is Apple doc.#88338 on getting FireWire to work.

  • Hi8 capture audio/video problem

No, but I can use Google.
Don't use DV NTSC Basic. Use regular DV NTSC, unless your audio is 32k, in which you'll have to make a 32k DV NTSC preset. There might be a problem with the FW800 connector. Quite a few people are reporting problems with these cables. Definitely use the rear FireWire port. Do you have any other devices connected?

  • No right rear audio

Here's the story.  I got my first FSR board last week and had the computer together ASAP.  I installed XP Pro and loaded the drivers from the MSI CD right after I updated to 1.8 bios.  Everything was going very well until I tested out the 5.1 system on my  brand new logitech z640s.  NO RIGHT REAR sound!  I figured some setting was wrong or something like that, but I checked everywhere.  No setting was wrong.  I also am sure it is the board because if I plug a pair of headphones into the front (green) port, I have stereo but if I plug it in the rear (blue) port, I have only the left channel.
I contacted newegg, where i bought it, and RMA'd it through them.  I just finally got the new board and IT DOES THE SAME THING!  I don't know what to do, any suggestions?

The mic in and line in jacks on the FSR are actually similar to versajacks on other sound cards.  They can change what they do.  Anyway I purchased a Santa Cruz sound card because I already RMA'd one board with this problem. The Santa Cruz is having a similar problem...no center/subwoofer output.  So no matter what I do, I have no 5.1 audio.

  • Thunderbolt port wont connect to SAMSUNG and audio port detection disables internal speak forever

I've had this Yosemite (10.10.2) since it's launch and never have I encountered a problem with my hdmi-to-thunderbolt port adapter until now I actually decide to use it. I find out that I cannot display my Mac on any TV screen to play a movie, watch Netflix or, play a game in fullscreen.
That not the only problem I've encountered.
I've encountered the internal speak disappearing from the audio output settings when I plugin my headphone. When I remove the jack from the audio port the internal speaker doesn't alway come back when I want it to. There needs to be a manual way to switch back or a thing to switch of the auto-detection.

    Eric,
Thanks for the advice but, my Macbook pro is all the way up to date with the latest stuff. I this is of a more software issue I ran into and found out the new OS (Operating System) has affect my Thunderbolt port. I'm wondering if there's a way to fix it?

  • Rear audio with audio usb card, hercules muse

    Hello,
i have bought an audio usb card (hercules muse pocket lt), but i have a problem to use rear audio output. Using vlc player it works fine with all outputs (if it plays a dvd with sound 5.1), but with other softwares (itunes, dvd player..) it doesn't work .. so it works in 2.1 mode, only in stereo.
In Audio/Midi setup, i have configured the speakers, multiple channels, and 5.1 surround, and I test each speaker and they work fine! But in audio output list i can set only master volume, and the six channels aren't active.
Is there a solution to use the rear audio output?
Thank you, and sorry for my english, i hope you understand my problem!

I did a quick search on Google and came up with quite a number of solutions.

  • XFI Fatality And Front Audio Ports On C

Hi guys I have a bit of a question about something that has been nagging me for a while.
I have front audio ports on built into my case that I would like to have working. I know that the sound card came with an I/O Dri've with similar ports on it but it is just bugging me knowing that my case has them also and that they are not working. The case has a headphone and mic jack in front, Problem is that I have no idea if I can even hook them up using the sound card.
Has anyone done this? If so can you help me connect my front ports.
    Thanks
    Any replies would be appreciated

  • Airport Express Audio Port Blocked?

Hello all, I'm setting up my Airport Express to play music through my speakers. I've previously done this with no problems, but when I've come to set it up again, this time, the audio port isn't deep enough for the audio jack to fit in.
The jack is a standard 3.5mm, and has been used with this Airport Express before.
The port doesn't appear to be blocked (I can see the led at the bottom).
There are no rattles and the Airport Express has been well looked after.
Any idea what could possibly be causing this?
    Cheers,
    Ollie.

I have had a word with my housemates, it would appear that one of them accidently snapped off the tip of a audio jack.
How would I go about removing this? Is there an easy way to open the Airport Express? or should I take it to the apple store?

  • Rear USB ports do not work on 3000 J 7387 A11 desktop

    Hi all.
This is my brother's machine and it orginally came with Vista, But he was having too many problems with vista on it, so he purchased XP and had me load it for him.  I was able to find all of the XP drivers on the Lenovo site, except for the drivers for the rear USB ports.  So I tried to force load a driver and now it does not indicate 'no drivers installed in the device manager as it used to, but the ports don't work.  The device ID for the rear USB ports is:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_026D&SUBSYS_101717AA&REV_A3\3&13C0B0C5&0&58
Is there anyone else out there who has tried to load XP on one of these machines or has run into a similar issue?  Any help is appreciated.

did u try installing the drivers using windows update??a similar problem i faced was solved .but mine is a 3000h series system
