  • V7.0.0.70 - Rear speakers not working

Having just updated to iTunes version 7.0.0.70, my rear speakers no longer work although they're fine with all other applications, just not iTunes. Even my Creative diagnostics say everything is fine.
I've been into QT and set the audio preferences so that "Sound Output" is:
    Rate - 44.1 kHz
    Size - 24bit
    channels - 5.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs)
...and still nothing. The front and centre ones work fine.
Reinstalled QT...nothing....Did a repair install and got the rear ones working but then had terrible distortion. Decided to trash iTunes and QT and reinstall, and now I'm back with no rear speakers
I'm running XP Pro SP2 (fully patched)
    Anyone any ideas....please.

There seem to be loads of people with this problem, unfortunately there's also a deafening silence from Apple. Maybe their product testers are down the pub, where they clearly were when V7 was being developed. Are Apple the new Microsoft ????
I've gone back to 6.05 and HURRAH !!! all my speakers work again.
Moral of the story here is "if it ain't broke..." and if you must update then carefully reveiw the forums and web before taking the leap into the unknown.

  • G550W rear speakers not working (but were previously)

I have a blue light on the wireless receiver but getting no sound to the rear speakers. I've checked wireless interferance, speaker wires, etc. I've restarted everything many times and reset everything to defaults. It was working just fine a week ago. Do these wireless receivers go faulty? Is this a known issue? Where do I send them in for a new receiver? Thanks!! Bill

I have a similar problem too. But mine is that the rear receiver couldn't power up at all. There's no blue light or any activity. I tried changing power chords and power points but still nothing from the receiver. But the problem is that its no longer under warranty and i wonder how much will it cost for service. I really dislike the fact that Creative's website did not have a Customer Service hotline for me to call and enquire about such things. Instead they use online email forms, which are crap if the customer service officers choose to ignore them. I sent my enquiry 2 days ago and till now, there's not even a slightest news from them!! Really lousy service.

  • Rear Speakers not functioning properly on X-Fi and Audig

Hello, I'm having an issue with my rear speakers. When I do a channel test, the rear outputs comes out the front speakers. It says "rear left, rear right" from the respected speakers in the front.
There is no sound that comes from the rear speakers unless I upmix it CMSS2 on the Audigy 2 and Stereo Surround on the X-Fi. When I do a channel test in this mode, it says "front right, rear right" from the right set of speakers and "front left, rear left" from the left set of speakers. There is no seperation of the individual speakers.
I also have this same issue with the output from rear speakers not functioning when I plug it into the onboard sound card and do a channel test. It's not the speakers because when I switch the green and black plugs in the soundcard, the rears work when plugged into the front output of the soundcard, so the the speakers are fine. I've even plugged headphones into the rear jack and get the same results.
    Here's my computer specs:
    Gigabyte GA-8NSLI ROYAL
    Pentium 4 640
    2xGB Patriot DDR2 700
    XFX 6800GT
SB Audigy 2 and SB X-Fi XtremeMusic(currently the X-Fi is installed)
    Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 500
    2xMaxtor DiamondMax0 300GB RAID
    2xMaxtor DiamondMax0 300GB
    Plextor PX-740A
    Lite-On LTR-4025S
    Kilpsch ProMedia 5.
I've tried disabling the TV card and the on-board audio, and that doesn't fix the problem. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers numerous times without any luck. It's driving me crazy not being able to play games or watch movies without true 5. surround. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    I have the same problem.
I have a set of Logitech Z-5300s hooked up to a creative DDTS-00, and the X-Fi Platinum breakout box attached to the DDTS-00 via coax.
Front right is also rear right, and front left is also rear left.
There are other threads which have touched on the issue of digital streams like Dolby and DTS not being output in 5. surround (which is a bummer).
BUT, I am trying to do this using CMSS...is this not possible? I dont understand why CMSS wouldn't work over a digital connection, it's one of the selling features of the card!
Is the CMSS stero xpand option doable using the coax outputing to the DDTS-00? It would be really lame if it couldn't seeing as I upgraded from my onboard Soundstorm (which could do surround) to experience higher fidelity music while in surround sound...Message Edited by Ashram on 2-3-2005 04:4 AM

  • Internal speakers not working after upgrading to Maverics

internal speakers not working after upgrading to Maverics

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed a software equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and restart.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    14. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

When I unplug Apple headphones from my MacBook Pro sond from internal speakers not work, and system soud preferences displayed: Output: optical digital out port only

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the earphone plug a few times and see if you can trip the switch.  If that fails, insert a cocktail stirrer and the like and jiggle it around inside.  If that fails, take it to an Apple store and have the technicians at the genius bar do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • Built-in speakers not working

    Please help;
Built-in speakers not working after using audio port to run remote speakers.
I tried using the FAQ in iTunes to solve problem. Built-in speakers will not play sound.
Under system prefs., sound, the device shows; Digital Out under port; Built-in Output
    Under settings for the selected device;
The selected device has no outpt controls.
When I adjust volume the sound level meter shows level on high but cancelled out (circle w/ slash).
I notice RED LIGHT from inside sound port. Sound works when headphone are plugged in but not external speakers.
    thank you for any advise.

  • TS1574 optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?

optic digital port can't be shut off and the sound of speakers not working! what to do?
this happened after taking out the head-phones. Now even after pressing CMD+ALT+P+R when booting - the sound of booting appeares BUT after the desktop is ready the sound doesn't work and sound buttons show the sign "circle with crossed line"

If there is a red light visible in the audio output port, the switch id stuck.  Insert the earphone jack a few times.  If that fails to trip the switch, try a toothpick or similar device and jiggle it inside the port.  If that fails, try a shot or two of compressed air.  If still no success, go to a repair facility.
    Ciao.

    Is the silent switch on?
    Is the volume up?
Have you tried the basics?  restart, reset, restore.
If you have tried all of the above then make an appointment at the local genius bar.

  • Left rear channel not working - Xfi

My left rear channel is not working. Its not the speakers nor the connections, its the soundcard (Xfi XM). I know this because I switched the front/rear connections to test them and the same problem?channel did not work. The problem is in both Vista and XP, so its not the software/drivers either. Any solution to this? Thanks.

  • Speakers not working on brand new pavillion dv6. headphones work fine

I've just taken this Pavillion DV6 PC out of the box and the speakers are not working.   Windows 7.   Sound is fine when I plug headphones in.

    Hi,
Try using Recovery Manager to reinstall your Audio Driver ( probably IDT ) - the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the relevant document on the link below.
    Recovery Manager - Windows 7
When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio through the speakers.
If you still have no sound, I would return the unit and get it replaced - you shouldn't have to be troubleshooting a brand new machine.

  • MacBook Pro speakers not working.

I was using my (mid-2010) MacBook Pro running Lion and then started watching a video and suddenly the internal speakers stopped working. There was no red light coming from the headphones jack. The volume was not muted. I tried plugging headphones in and even that wasn't working. I can adjust the volume but the speakers or headphones don't work. The headphones are working, I'm certain of that.
    What should I do?

Thanks Dave, but I already figured it out.
I feel like such an idiot for not trying to reboot the computer. *facepalm*
