Rearranging Images in Collections?

Does anyone know if there is a way to rearrange images once they are put into a collection? The manual states that collections retain the sort order of how they were originally selected. I want to rearrange them for a better presentation in the web gallery and though rearranging is simple in the main catalog, the Collections don't seem to allow it at all. Any suggestions?

Currently no sort in parent Collections that also show child selections in them. Was it a parent collection?

I don't do a lot of dragging to custom arrange my images. But the custom order is right at the bottom of the list of sort orders on my computer.
Added later: But don't worry about the custom order. It doesn't make any difference on my system. Are you sure you are dragging the image itself, and not the border around the image?

How do I rearrange images in a contact sheet? I am trying to drag them to the square I want but nothing happens.

No, I don't think it's possible - unless you create an image in a pixel editor (Photoshop) that is completely white, create some Virtual Copies of it in Lr, and intersperse the white images between the "real" ones.

  • How do I include an image's collection hierarchy in its name when exported?

    Hi,
Newbie question - I organize selected images using hierarchies of collections. When I export the images in those collections, I'd like to include the entire collection hierarchy of each image in its exported name.
For example, if I have a collection hierarchy like the following:
    CollectionSet1
         +CollectionSet2
              +CollectionA
                   Image1
                   Image2
              +CollectionB
                   Image1
                   Image2
         +CollectionSet3
              +CollectionA
                   Image1
                   Image2
              +CollectionB
                   Image1
                   Image2
And I export the images from CollectionSet2, I'd like the images to have the following names:
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionA_Image1.jpg
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionA_Image2.jpg
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionB_Image1.jpg
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionB_Image2.jpg
Is this possible? Or is there a better way (I'm assuming there is ) to structure my images to enable this type of filenaming?
Also, which is a recommended book regarding in-depth discussion of cataloging and exporting techniques?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately not. At least not natively for sure. And i haven't heard of any plugins to do that.

If you mean digital asset management as a whole, then The DAM Book is the undisputable number one. it si not specific to Lightroom, but the fresh 2nd edition has some Lightroom stuff too.

  • How can I add images from collection after the book is saved?

I am new to the Book module on Lightroom 5. I prepared a rough draft of a book and saved it with the tab on the right hand top of the main screen. Unfortunately, I saved it with the option of only saving the used images from the original collection. Later I brought up the draft book and tried to add some additional images, but see that only the images already used in the book are available on the image strip at the bottom.  I need to get other images which are in the original collection.  Is there any way to do this?  If not, is there a way to save the entire format of the book and then start over with the same format but with the original full collection as the source of images in the bottom strip?

When you create a saved book, it creates a "Saved Book Collection" in your collections panel with a special "Book" icon. To add pictures to a saved book. Find them in your Grid mode of Library module and drag them into your Saved  Book Collection and they will be available to add back in from the Book Module.

  • Images in Collection

Most of my images are processed in Lightroom 5 to B&W.   When I attempt to add these to a collection only the original image appears in the collection not the B&W version.  If I further process in Photoshop or NIk and the image is saved as a Tiff linked(stqacked) to the orginal and I try to save it to a collect, again only the orginal shows in the collection.   What am I not doing to make this happen?

    Here's two ways:
    1. In grid mode (press 'g' key), select them, then press 'Delete'.
    2. in loupe view, select them using the filmstrip, then context-click them and choose 'Remove from Collection'.
    Definitions: "context-click" - right-click in Windows, ctrl-click on Mac.

  • Adding images to collections

Trying to add a .tif image to a collection and when I drag the image into the collection, instead of the tif file appearing (as I want), the .nef (raw) image appears instead. What am I doing wrong? I want the .tif version in the collection. Thanks.

You are not doin anything wrong. It's LR figuing the same named .nef is the file you want because it see the .tif as a sidecar. If you add even one more letter or number to the name of the tif to further differentiate it from the nef (besides the extension), LR will then let you do it.
This is why when you edit RAWs in PSCS the edit file (PSD or TIFF) had -edit added into the file name. This a behavior that was un intended it LR hopefull by fixed in a future, yet to be anounced release.

  • Rearranging images in an album

I put three hundred images into an album--roughly half from one source of masters (my imported iPhoto Library) and the other half from another source of masters (images sent to me on a CD). When I tried to merge the two collections within the album, I found that I was not able to put an image from the CD collection into the line of images from the imported iPhoto set. The green line would say that the image was going to go between two iPhoto images, but the CD image would then spring to a place before or after the whole iPhoto set.
I was able, however, to merge iPhoto images into the CD set. So I got the job done.
It felt like the iPhoto set was rejecting any intruder. A modern-day apartheid!
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have an explanation for this bizarre performance?

The problem has been resolved by OS 10.4.6

  • Images in collections and folders

Just upgraded to Lightroom4. Previosuly, if I selected a collection and a folder in a catalgue, only the images found in both the collection and the folder would appear on screen. Now all the images from either the collection or the folder are shown. Is there a way to get the old way back?

  • Rearranging images in Bridge

I've done this before so I know I'm not crazy!  I've been creating web galleries for a few years in PS and recently started using Bridge in the last few months.  I've been able to rearrange the file order so when the web gallery is created, it will show the order I've placed them in.  Today, everything I export, no matter the order I place it in, will only export in the numerical order.  Why don't I then batch rename???  Well, I have and I'm getting the same results.   I've tried resetting everything I can think of.  Any ideas?????  This is driving me crazy and I'm about to pull my hair out.  Thank you for the help!!!!!

    Hi again,
I think I'm seeing what you are now. This is going to sound a bit crazy, but if you run a browser preview than change the sort order, it will change the order in Bridge but not in the browser Preview. However, if you deselect all after changing the sort order, then reselect you should see the output in the expected order.
    Hoping this works for you,
    steve

  • Any applicable\recommended Group Policy settings (Local & Domain) for configuring windows 8.1 "gold master image" for collection

    Happy Friday everybody -
I'm working on implementing Microsoft RDS 2012\VDI for the folks here at work.  I've read - online - a lot of articles on VDI and RDS 2012 - and have a working model that is working somewhat satisfactorily.  I haven't seen much online about steps
I could take in Local Group Policy on my Windows 8.1 'gold image' - or for that matter Domain level group policy - that can assist in creating a better, more reliable/robust Windows 2012 VDI environment.
Anybody out there got any information or opinions or advice on Group Policy settings for VDI environments?
    Thanks again, everyone!

  • I want to rearrange images/files position in their folders. Drag & drop does not work

I have just bought Elements 12. Great programme. I used to use Picasa 3, a good free programme. In Picasa it is easy to move images around in their folders by simply click, drag and drop. This does not work in elements. Is it possible to achieve this somehow?
    Thanks for any advice. Linehill

    Hi,
You can't do it with folders but you can if you use Albums.
Folders can only be in Date or Name order. Albums have the additional setting of Album Order - see the Sort By field at the top.
If you right click on a folder name, you can select Create an instant Album. This will create an album with the same name as the folder. Select the album and make sure that Sort by is set to Album Order and you can do drag and drop to re-order the images.
    Hope that helps

Is there anyway that we can create a Template of a Collection Set Structure?
I have a particular Structure Set that I use for my Collection Sets, and the Collections within them for each time I do a shoot session.
Is there anyway that I can streamline the process of making these structures instead of doing it one collection at a time?
I can't seem to find it at the moment. A possibility for the Future?

  • Lr3.5 windows_7 64bit: Problem moving images in Library collections

I am ruhnning Windows &7 Pro, 64 bit and I'm experiencing inconsistant behavior in Lightroom 3.5 with regard to moving images within collections.  When I try to move an image, to place it in the order inwhich I would like view the sequence, the image is placed at the end of the sequence no matter where I place it initially.  I've tried the filmstrip view and the grid view and it happens in both.  I recall doing this without problems previously however it was in the imported Library not a collection, but why would this be different??  One still needs to reorder images in collections.  I've made certian to change the "sort" option to user each time I've tried to do this.  Any Ideas?  Thanks

'User order' has some surprises. When it works it can be difficult to appreciate what differs from when it doesn't. Julianne Kost video is a good starting point on what will and won't work with a little on why  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/custom-sort-orders/  . If collections and several folders are involved the work round to meet your goals may include a combination of moves, copies and renaming files (export and re-import even) to create an alphanumeric sort. The 'dumping' at the end of the sequence manifests itself in other situations related to the order status in force at the point when you start moving files.  See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4026355#4026355 which came down to making sure the sort starting point is appropriate
    Good luck

  • Collect a Bing Search Image

I am trying to collect an image from a bing search.
I tried the following in the On Select section of the Bing Image Gallery:
    Collect(Collection1, ThisItem)
Please let me know what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks!

My assumption of what you are doing is that you have a gallery of images using the Bing Image Search control and want to add the selected image to a new collection.
If this is what you are doing, then the onSelect would look like this:
    Collect(col,{image:Gallery1!Selected!MediaUrl})
