Reason 442: Failed to Enable Virtual Adapter - Windows 7 64 bit

Some details about the issue.
I'm trying to connect to my client's network using VPN Client version 5.0.07.0290. The user authetication is done by providing RSA SecureID token value. After entering proper credentials, the client window gets struck at 'Securing Communication Channels...' message in status bar and reports 'Reason 442: Failed to Enable Virtual Adapter' error after few mintues. I have confirmed that this version works for other people in my team , so I'm guessing it has something to do with my system settings than the client itself.
Below are the trobleshooting tips that I have already tried.
1. Uninstall and Reinstall the client.
2. Enable WinXP SP2 compatability for ipsecdialer.exe and vpngui.exe.
3. Clicking 'Diagnose' on the Citrix Virtaul Adapter connection in Networks and Sharing centre, reports no issues.
4. Enabling Network sharing for Local Area Network and disaling Wireless Networks
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit Enterpise OS.
Appreciate any suggestions to resolve this issue.
Thanks,
PVNSKC
Update: 9/7/2011
OK, things look much better after a good vacation, always!!!
I tried to connect today by reinstalling the client after a weekend shutdown (I don't believe the cold reboot stuff, but hey, worth a try! ) and it did work. The only change I did today was to disable the Wireless Connection adapter in Networks Connections. I'm not sure whether that fixed or not cause I had tried that already. Anyway, below is my current configuration which is working for now!
1. Below executables are running in the XP compatability mode.
cvpnd.exe, VAInst64.exe, vpngui.exe
2. Local Area Connection is allowed for 'Sharing'
3.  Registry is updated with below entry.
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters /v ArpRetryCount /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
4. Wireless Connection is disabled.
Thank you all for the responses.

Hi,
Duplicate IP Address Triggers Error 442 on Windows 7 and Vista
The following error "Reason 442: failed to enable virtual adapter"  appears after Windows 7 and Vista reports a duplicate IP address  detected. Subsequent connections fail with same message, but the OS does  not report a duplicate IP address detected.
To work around error 442, do the following steps:
Step 1 Open "Network and Sharing Center".
Step 2 Select "Manage Network Connections".
Step 3 Enable the Virtual Adapter ("VA"—Cisco VPN Adapter).
Step 4 Right-click on Cisco VPN Adapter and select "Diagnose" from the context menu.
Step 5 Select "Reset the network adapter Local Area Connection X".
If this procedure does not work, run the following command from cmd:
reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters /v ArpRetryCount /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
Then reboot.
This resolves the issue until the OS reports a duplicate IP address again. Follow the preceding steps to resolve it again.
If that doesn't work, you might have UAC enabled. If so, you must run  cmd as administrator and repeat the previous registry workaround.
NOTE: You mentioned step 4 already, try the whole sequence again, if the steps does not work then try the registry key.
Hope this helps,
Sian

  • Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adapter

I've installed version 4.8.02.0010 of the VPN client onto a Dell Latitude D820 laptop. When I attempt to connect, I get this message. There are no firewalls running (I disabled the Windows XP firewall) and I'm running under Service Pack 2 with all of the latest security patches from Microsoft.
I even tried un-installing the client and using an older version (4.8.00.0440) and it reports a similar error in the Log file.
I'd prefer to NOT have to wipe the laptop and reinstall the O/S if I don't have to. This is the only laptop that I've experienced this problem with but it's also the first Dell Latitude D820 that I've attempted to install the client on.
Is there a problem with the Dell Latitudes and the VPN Client? Is there another way around this other than a wipe and re-install?
I've already tried replacing the profiles and still get the same problem.

    Hi,
There is another thing that you can try temporarily.
Goto device manager on the computer and manually enable the virtual adapter and see if it works.
There might be some other adapters / softwares installed that you might have uninstall. Those could be some wireless adapters, personal firewall or internet security package, any other kind of adapter that you installed after installing the VPN cliemt.
    HTH,
    Kamal

I have found another possible bug affecting network printing with 10.1.2 in Protected Mode on XP SP3 machines that has not been previously documented:
A number of users in one office were not able to print with 10.1.2 in Protected Mode (even with the printing hotfix/patch previously released) to their default printer; however they were able to print fine with 10.0.1 in Protected Mode OR by disabling Protected Mode in 10.1.2.  They could print to Microsoft XPS Document Writer, however.
The cause was determined to be an issue with capitilization of the printer name in the registry!  10.1.2 in Protected Mode seems to be sensitive to this for some strange reason, though other apps don't care.
Check the following keys and ensure the capitalization of any references to name of your printer (or UNC path of the printer share) is consistent:
    HKCU\Printers\Connections
    HKCU\Printers\Settings
    HKCU\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows\Device
In our case, the reference to the name of the default printer was in lowercase, while the printer path recorded under settings was in UPPERCASE.   Changing this to match immediately fixed the problem.

  • VPN Virtual Adapter and Vista

I am running Vista for Business on my notebook and have installed VPN Client version 5.0.02.0090
Each time I try to connect to my network the VPN client times out and I get the message
Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client
Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adapter
When I go to Device Manager and enable the VPN network adapter, it becomes disabled once I try to connect again.
I tried the softpedia.com/Tweak fix and it worked the first time I tried to connect, but once I disconnected the error came back again at subsequent tries.
This is pretty frustrating. Plse help. Thanx.
    Tony

OK, I have come a little bit further with this problem. Some recent automatic updates by Windows Vista caused the client to stop working when it was working before.
I uninstalled all the updates (most were critical security patches which now leaves me vulnerable) and uninstalled the Cisco VPN client including scouring the Registry for anything remotely associated with the VPN such as any reference to 'CVPN' or 'Cisco'.
I then installed the latest VPN client (V 5.0.03.0560), and I DIDN'T reboot as it asked me too. The reason I thought this was a good idea is because after a reboot, the Network Connections are reset and re-assigned IPs which was, I started to think, part of the problem.
It Worked! I was able to start the client (that was already an achievement!) and, lo and behold, was able to connect without problems... I thought!
Now I have the following... when I connected to the VPN, I have limited access to the internet. Some sites are fine, others only load half-way and still others I can absolutely not connect to. The ones I can connect to load very very slow.
For now I have left it this way since I can (albeit handicapped) connect to the VPN so I have to keep connecting/disconnecting etc. It is still very frustrating.
However, I believe I know what the problem is, but I don't know how to solve it. If anyone here can use this information to take this one step further, we may get somewhere.
I believe it has to do with the TCP/IP settings where we now have both v4 and v6 running. I think the VPN is using one of these only, and when it is using it, it is not allowing any other traffic through it. I don't know how to solve this. I tried disabling one or the other in either Network Connection, but it either gives me no connection or limited connection.
The reason I think this is it is because some sites are loading/half loading when the VPN is connected... in other words, one of the TCP/IP protocals is open to the Internt traffic, the other is used by the VPN exclusively.
I tried looking for sharing and tunneling options in my VPN client and the Network Connections settings, but I can't find anything.
I am very hesitant to change any more settings since I do have a half-baked solution that at least allows me to meet the deadlines I have for my client.
    Let's get this solved!

  • Getting "querypanel.dll failed to register" on Windows 7 32 bit machine

Trying to move from CR 2008 SP2 to CR 2008 SP3.
For the CR 2008 SP2 version of our application, which runs our Crystal .rpt files, we used Visual Studio 2005.  we then created a Visual Studio .msi file, using the merge module (CRRuntime_12_2), to install this application on a target machine that had .NET Framework 2.0 and VC++ Redistributable 2005 SP1 installed. If these two latter prerequisites were not installed, our install would fail because the CEReportSource.dll could not be registered.
After installing CR SP3 on my development machine, we created a new Visual Studio project, again using Visual Studio 2005. I used CRRuntime_12_3 as the merge module and everything else was the same.
I was getting this same error message "CEReportSource.dll failed to register" when I attempt to install the SP3 version of the app on the very same machine on which I previously successfully installed the SP2 version. I found an answer in these forums to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 update. Even this did not help. When I installed  MS VC++  2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17, finally the problem of "CEReportSource.dll failed to register"  went away on XP and Vista machines.
Now I am trying to install my program on Windos 7 32 bit machine and I get "querypanel.dll failed to register".
Q1. By installing S VC++  2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17, the problem of "CEReportSource.dll failed to register" did not occur. Is this the right thing to do. I am not sure why VC++ 2005 SP1 did not fix the issue.
Q2.What do we need in order to prevent "querypanel.dll failed to register" error on Windows 7 32 bit machine.
    Thanks for your time.

    Moved to .NET SDK forum.
Search here, lots of info on distribution. Likely caused by MS updated the C++ runtime to include security updates. Go to MS's site and download the latest C++ distribution package with enhanced security.
If you use the CR MSI package rather than the Merge Modules it should work.
    Thank you

  • Z68MA-ED55 + UEFI + Windows 7 64-bit Installation

I've been trying for a few days now to figure out how to install Windows 7 64-bit on a single, fatty 5.5TB GPT partition in UEFI mode for this motherboard while utilizing RAID5 and Intel SRT caching. Here's the scenario:
    1. I have (3) 3TB hard drives that are configured in a RAID5 array giving me approx. 5.5TB's of usable storage.
    2. I have (1) 64GB SSD that I want to use for Intel SRT caching for the above mentioned RAID array.
    3. I want a single, big fat 5.5TB GPT partition for the above mentioned RAID arrary.
    4. I want to install and boot Windows 7 from the above mentioned 5.5TB GPT partition.
The reason for all of this is that Windows 7 64-bit cannot utilize any disk space beyond 2TB on the disk it's installed on.... unless it uses GPT... and you can only boot GPT using UEFI... This motherboard supports UEFI, but provides no details that I can find on how to install Windows 7. I can get into the EFI shell, and dink around, but I cannot browse any mounted drives (example, using simple "ls" command from any drive/path I get the error "ls/dir: cannot open current directory - Not Found Exist status code: Not Found"
I'm decently familiar/comfortable with Linux/DOS/CLI work, but I'm not having any luck browsing any file system I try to mount through the EFI shell.
I know what I'm doing on the RAID side, I can get RAID/SRT/Windows 7 64-bit working with MBR-type partitions and normal BIOS start up. Again, the problem is that that there's no way to access/partition the space after 2TB on the fatty 5.5TB RAID array drive that Windows 7 is installed on.
    SO! Any geniuses out there?

I figured out how to do the GPT part of things with my Z68A-GD80 board, but only in AHCI mode (still pondering RAID mode for SRT caching) I'm hoping it is similar for you:
Make UEFI the first boot device in the main boot order menu.
After the Windows boot DVD is inserted (may need to restart into the BIOS) an EFI boot option will appear under the UEFI boot BBS Priorities submenu. Select it as the first boot device.
Install Windows 64 bit with GPT partitions to 3TB drive.
After it reboots, go back to the UEFI boot BBS Priorities submenu and make EFI Windows Boot Manager the first boot device.
    Boot into Windows.
I may give up on the GPT partitions if I cannot get it to work in RAID mode; Seagate's DiscWizard utility magically allows the remaining space to be formatted as a separate partition for it's drives when they are already formatted as MBR. (But it only works with Seagate drives unless its installer is hacked.) If you ever figure out how to get RAID mode to work with one big GPT partition let me know!

  • "enable" the Virtual Adapter

Under Vista with VPN Client 5.0.01.0600 I always have to go into Manage Network connections and "enable" the Virtual Adapter. Why can't the virtual adapter just stay enabled?
UAC and Windows firewall are disabled, I'm logged in as full administrator.

There is not a newer version of VPN Client than this, seems to coorelate to when I close my lid and laptop goes into sleep and then awakes later. Sometimes I have to reboot for the Virtual Adapter to stay enabled. I'll enable it and hit F5 and it will be back at Disabled. Most of the time it stays Enabled. No Firewalls and I don't think AV would Disable a Virtual Adapter, my wireless or ethernet never Disable. Annoying caveat!

  • When using Parallels for Windows 7, I cannot connect to Wi-Fi. I get drop down menu "Real Network Adapter Thunderbolt Bridge used by Virtual Adapter 1 is not connected to the network". How do I fix?

When I try to connect to internet wirelessly (Parallels/Windows 7 on my Mac Pro) I get a drop down that says "Real Network adapter thunderbolt bridge used by virtual adapter 1 is not connected to the network". I can not figure out how to connect - any help is appreciated!

Since you are having trouble with Parallels or Windows, did you ask in their respective support forums? If not, you might want to consider doing so.

When enabling replication on several VM's, I receive Hyper-V failed to enable replication for virtual machine "virtualmachinename": Incorrect funciton. (0x8007001). However this error doesn't happen to all VM's and it isn't related to any
