Reason Rewire Timing??

I'm having trouble synching Reason to logic accuratly. I had the same problem dumping audio into logic from my MPC but was able to fix that through adjusting the midi output delay. How do I accurately sync a rewire application?

I've had a slightly different but perhaps related problem with Reason in both Logic and Digital Performer. In my case using the Redrum drum machine in Reason and the pattern sequencer in Reason, when you start playback it will make kind of a cut-off squelch kick drum sound on beat 1, then complete silence for about 2 and a half beats, then the sound of the beat will kick in mid-measure.
I haven't done a lot of testing about when and where this happens in the sequence; I work around it by programming 2 measures of silence (pattern D-8 perhaps) into the Redrum before the start of the song and starting the playback from that. It seems like even doing that if you start playback at measure 1 beat 1 it will make that kick drum squelch on the first beat.
Sorry my comments are so vague as to be of little concrete help but I just wanted to point out that I've also had issues on starting up playback of drum beats in Reason when using it in ReWire mode.

  • Reason rewire question

I have an instrument from Reason rewired into Logic and it works fine. But when I select a new track in Logic (eg piano), my instrument from Reason plays in addition to the piano.
I've had this happen in the past but can't remember what to do! Is it something to do with 'release key'??
    THANKS

Problem sorted. I had the instrument track still selected in Reason.

  • Reason Rewire - serious problem with timing / sync

    Hi - here's the problem....
I rewire Reason 4.1 to Logic Pro 8.02.
I try to record a basic drum beat (played in via midi keys) into bar 1 of Logic's sequencer.
I quantize the beat and verify visually that on the very 1st beat of the bar there is a high-hat and a kick drum that should play at exactly the same time - however when I play the sequence back the high-hat is delayed for no apparent reason!! (if i am in cycle mode - after the cycle point is crosssed the kick and hi-hat ARE played together!). If i try to bounce this section the same problem is apparent. Thus making rewire really useless!! It's as if the 1st beat of the bar can only be monophonic or something!
The same thing happens if I record a chord from a Reason instrument (Thor perhaps) - the notes that should all sound in unison on the 1st beat of the bar do not play correctly.
Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this or is it another pathetic bug?

  • Reason rewire not working with Logic 9.1.8,Help!

I need help on Rewiring Reason 6.5.3 with Logic 9.1.8
I've done everything that's been told how to rewire Reason and Logic (tutorials on youtube / on the Propellerhead website) I had no problem with it before 6.5 / 6.5.1
But after I updated to 6.5.3.I just cant get rewire working. When I click Reason after I open Logic. The Logic library is empty. I do have automap 4 as well. I'm not sure if that's the problem.
I even checked Reason's Option>Sync. Rewire is not able to be selected and the rewire light on the hardware interface is never on.
I've tried uninstall reinstall from 6.5 ,but still not working.....
Can someone help.....This is suppose to be easy.....Thanks!

  • Logic with Reason rewire lagging during recording...

    Hey everyone,
I've been working with Logic 8 rewired with reason 4, and have been having issues with logic whilst trying to record MIDI data through my controller. It will pick up uncomplicated, exactly on the beat things fine, but anything more complex that gets absolutely mangled on playback. I don't think it's the computer because I'm working off a brand new iMac in my school's music lab. Is there anything I can do?
The program really doesn't seem to be lagging "per se" because nothing actually slows down during input; it just seems like it's not catching the notes properly. The stuff I end up with after recording is absolute trash, no semblance of what I was playing whatsoever, and quite unusable. I'll send you a fruitbasket if you can help me.

This applies to Live users on intel as well.

If you use a mac, you only need this update if you are not using Reason. For instance, if you use ReWire to hook up Ableton Live and Logic on an Intel Mac you should download this update.
Note: If you are using Reason 3.0.5, you do not need this update at all.

  • Reason rewire audio problems

    Hi,
I've followed all the instructions posted within this forum and in the manuals but I still cannot get Reason audio in Logic.
Midi rewires fine between Logic and Reason, i.e. playing a rewire track in Logic does trigger the Reason rack - audio comes up on the mixer but not on the rewire interface (the item at the top of the rack).
Logic and Abelton rewire fine together, i.e. I can get Live audio within Logic but not Reason for some reason. Also, Live and Reason both work correctly in rewire too.
What might I have missed? I am at a complete loss, I've reinstalled both programs and not had any problems with my other software.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your post.
I'm trying to play audio out of Reason into Logic. As I said, the midi communicates fine between the two programs I just cannot get the audio to play through my rewire channels in Logic.
For instance, I add a channel mixer then a dr-rex. I want the audio out of the dr-rex player to play in Logic through the rewire L and R channels.
I know I've got the rack set-up correctly in Reason as it works when rewired to Live. Also I must have the rewire setup correctly in Logic, becaue when using Live as the slave I can get the audio from it in Logic.
As I've followed all the instructions to the tee I'm pretty sure there is a setting somewhere that is causing problems.

  • Reason/ReWire--logic vocals out of synch (newbie)

Hi I just set up logic. I have a song I did in reason, it plays fine with logic. However when I record a vocal in logic and play it back, it is out of synch. The vocals start a little before they are supposed to. Any suggestions on what is causing this? Thanks.

Well I record the main song in Reason. I want to have my main song playing in reason, and record vocals. Then when the vocal is done, I want to listen to the vocal and edit whatever I did in Reason, like add/subtract notes if they don't sound good with my singing.
So at this point I'm in the "live rewire" mode, and I've tried it with that low latency button on and off in the transport bar. Same result.
Of course now playing around with Logic, it sounds so good I may just move there completely.

  • Reason Rewire with Logic Pro 7.2!

    Hey guys,
I had no problem rewiring Reason in 7.1 on my PowerPC Mac Mini, but on my Intel Macs, with 7.2, Rewire is not an option in the Channel List on an Audio Object or Aux. I notice there is still rewire layers in the Env, but I'm confused about the one slave, two slave thing, (A and B). Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to update Reason from 2.5 to 3.0? Help! Please!

For Rewire to correctly work on Intel Macs, Both apps need to be running under Rosetta. Since Logic is a Universial Binary, there isn't a way to run Reason as a rewire slave from Logic.
You'll have to wait till a Universial Binary of Reason is released.
    more info http://www.propellerheads.se/
"Early testing using the Apple Developer Transition Kit shows that:
-Reason will continue to run in Rosetta, but the performance loss is similar to running Reason on a G3.
-ReCycle runs fine in Rosetta, with no measurable performance issues.
-ReWire works, as long as all applications in the session are PowerPC-based."

  • Recording Reason/Rewire Drums on Separate Tracks

    Hi,
I've been using Logic for a while now and am now trying to use Reason's ReDrum to sequence some drums.
I've managed to get Logic to play each drum through a different channel, which is a start. How would I go about actually recording each drum to a separate track? I've set up tracks with the Aux channels as the input, but the sound won't record.
I can output each Aux channel to a separate bus then create tracks with busses as inputs - this DOES record but is quite messy.
Is there an easier way to do this? Something simple I'm missing?

There is no way to do a live record for each track in Logic when the Reason instruments are wired directly through the hardware interface?
There must be a way to do it. Here is my problem:
    1. Wire a Subtractor directly to the hardware interface, Channel 5 for example.
    2. In Logic, select an audio track, change the channel to Rewire - Reason - Channel 5.
    3. Playback works fine, plugins and effects apply with ease, but there is no way to record to the track. The "enable for record" button to the left of the track dissappears.
    Anyone!?!?
Put an I/O Plug-In on the respective Rewire track in Logic and set the output to an unused output of your audio interface, and bring it back in on an unused input (if you're bringing in a stereo signal, i.e. a Redrum sound panned center, then you would have to put an I/O Plug on both the hard left panned Rewire track and the hard panned right track in Logic). Then set the Rewire track's output to No Output and pull the fader down just to be safe. Next go to an available audio track in Logic and set it's input to the same input you brought it back from the I/O Plug and then hit Record enable...and voila! You can now live record each Rewire track into Logic.
Hope this is clear enough. I personally use the I/O Plug to send Redrum sounds out to a hardware compressor/limiter via my AES out and back in via AES in. The I/O Plug really gives you endless possibilities with Rewire tracks. ;o)

  • Reason/Rewire - Logic 7

I have a Reason playing through Logic playing a 4 bar loop. However, everytime anything in Reason loops back to the 1st bar, there's a little latency. Then everything is fine again until it loops back to the 1st bar. And it's only the 1st beat "sound" iin the first bar that's coming in a couple of ms late? Any idea's?

I spent time researching this too as a long-time user (& fan) of reason for a few years prior to switching to logic & mac. unfortunately, as above, this is a known problem without, currently, a solution. & it's annoying as ****.
You'll also find when you bounce to audio you have to start the left locator a fair bit before the start or the first part of your bounce will skip..... so you cant ever start a project on bar 1......& you end up bouncing silence at the start of every mix.........a real pain.
interestingly, since i've now slowly weened myself completely off reason I've noticed 3 other side effects
1)Logic is more stable without it - I used to get 'core audio overload' messages, albeit only once every 3 or 4 sessions & when projects were getting bigger, which have now (touch wood) gone away.
2)The Logic Environment & mixer are much simpler to comprehend & more friendly without thinking about rewire
3)My mixes are sounding better! -it's hard to describe but all the reason parts seemed to have less 'depth', especially if using a lot of Reason instruments. weird but i was always a bit suspect why i could have so many instruments without taxing the cpu, guess nothings free.
conversely, I'm getting better results for my basses from automat (which is free!) than i was in subtractor, which was my favourite reason synth. & ES2 is awesome. all i really miss from reason now is the ease & speed of redrum to program beats, just looking at the 10million buttons on ultrabeat terrifies me!
sorry.....probably not what you were hoping to hear !

  • Reason, Rewire, GB

I finally got Reason to Rewire into GB after finding out i had to get the latest update from Reason for it to work. But now i can't figure out how to play a song or synth out of Reason and record it into GB. GB picks up the sound from Reason no problem, but i don't know how to arm a track for recording into GB. The individual tracks don't show any sign of Reason audio being sent to them, no audio bars or anything. Is there a setting within GB to set the input of these tracks to see and record Reason audio? There's got to be a way to select a rewire input for a track.
    Any advice would be great,
    Luke

Thanks for the reply. You are right about itunes. I thought GB would record Reason sounds, but i found out that you have to do recording in reason with reason sounds and GB with GB sounds.
    Thanks again,
    Luke

  • Another Reason ReWire Question!

I have rewired Reason into LE, I have sound, everything is fine, I have recorded some strings using one of Reason combinators.
Now, I have made a new ReWire, which I plan to use Reason Drum Kits V2 on, I have renamed it, and it shows in Logic, but when I go to look for the RDK from Reason it is not showing up in Logic, I have saved and closed both applications down, re-opended and still Logic does not see the RDK combinator from Reason.
Does anyone know why this is?

Problem sorted. I had the instrument track still selected in Reason.

  • Using the Matrix Sequencer from Reason Rewire with Audition

Hello. I've been trying to copy the pattern I've made from the matrix sequencer into audition using rewire. Everything's all hooked up. I've tried exporting one of the patterned tracks as a midi file from the matrix and gotten so far as importing and seeing that the new midi track in Audition sees the note pattern as well as the Malstrom synthesizer. I just can't seem to get the track to be copied into Audition. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    -Christina.

There's no way to *directly* copy a Matrix pattern into Audition (or any other Rewire host). The only way to do it is to use the "Copy Pattern to Track" function. The process is fully documented in the Reason 4 Operation Manual (PDF) installed with Reason - see page 302. In short, this function copies a Matrix pattern to the Reason sequencer track for the Matrix.
The reason your export to MIDI file didn't work is that Reason only exports notes recorded in its sequencer. Matrix patterns don't get exported.
