Reasons to get an iPad when I have an iPhone and Macbook?

Hello all!
I've been contemplating getting an iPad for awhile now. I already have an iPhone (4) and an older MacBook (a mid-2009 white one running OS 10.5.8), and I also have an Amazon Kindle (first generation). So what I'm wondering is...what does the iPad offer that my other gadgets don't? I don't want to buy it simply because I think it's cool, you know? If iPad users with other Apple/eBook products could help me out, that would be great.
Thanks!
Christina

I didn't say that I couldn't think of a reason. I was simply asking iPad users about the features that are unique to the iPad; things that they cannot do on their other apple devices, or things they prefer to do on the iPad for x reason. Thanks.

  • When you have multi iphones and multi ipads, is it really best to have separate itunes accounts.  My husband and I really seems to be running into problems now that I have a new I pad and we have one itunes account.

I just purchased the New Ipad, my husband and I have 2 Iphones (4 & 4s) and he has the Ipad 2, we are "technically" challenged, that I will put out there right up front .  We've had nothing but troubles with the imessaging, and messages stating that they have been delivered but not received.  I am not sure if it's more confusing with us having this one Itunes account, if it's best for me to have my Itunes account and my husband having his own.  The Itunes account is my husband's and for some reason, the imessager doesn't recognize "him" being registered, but it sees everyone else.  It wasn't working last night, but this morning, it worked, but when I tried to send him a text from my iphone this morning, it said, delivered, but he never got it, the only way I could get it to work, was to turn off, imessaging.  It's become very confusing and I am not sure why.  I am thinking, I will remove my Iphone from his Itunes account, set up my own (as we have too much problem with this Icloud, his contacts, his music, etc).  Any thoughts, suggest, help, would be greatly appreciated.  Not sure what this problem is all the sudden with the imessager, we had no problem before I got my Ipad (which has not been synced with his Itunes yet as an additonal device)  I am sure if there is a problem with how we have our contacts listed).  I've tried reading articles and again, being technically challenged, it is hard to follow sometimes.

You and your husband can share a store account and still have seperate iCloud accounts for your contacts, bookmarks and stuff like that.  Click here for instructions to make an apple account without entering a credit card.  Make sure you use a different email address for each apple account.
Set up your iPhone/iPad whatever using the new account for iCloud.  Then go into settings/store and sign in with your purchasing account, you may need to sign out of the other account.  To the best of my knowledge, your household is allowed to share purchased legally, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Once you each have your own devices set to your own accounts you can set them to backup to that account and it will keep all your contacts seperate.

  • SHOULD U GET A IPAD IF I HAVE AN IPHONE

thinking about getting an iPad, main reason is that the wifi Is free on iPad but I have to pay for wifi on iPhone 3GS
    any opinions would be great!
    Thanks X

    You are completely wrong.
No, I'm not completely wrong. It depends where you connect. Which, if you had bothered to actually read what I posted, I said "WiFi is no more 'free' on the iPad than it is on the iPhone."
If you are in a place that offers free WiFi it will be free no matter what device you access it on.
If you are in a place that charges for WiFi it will be *paid for* no matter what device you access it on.
There is no charge when you connect your iPad or iPhone to WiFi ! Don't spread misinformation like that.
You are the one spreading misinformation. You don't even live in the UK so you are in no position to comment on the free/paid status of WiFi in the UK. WiFi is NOT free everywhere in the UK. Stop spreading misinformation because you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
To correct your misinformation I will give you some examples:
    a) McDonalds offer free WiFi. It is free to both iPad and iPhone users.
    b) Starbucks offer paid for WiFi. It is charged to both iPad and iPhone users.
    c) Companies like "The Cloud" and "BTOpenzone" offer paid for WiFi subscription plans that cover the whole country. If you pay for one of these plans, you can access the internet at any location within the price that you pay.
Now, stick to answering question you know something about.

I have locked my ipad but itunes wont let me unlock it,how can i fix it?

If you are trying to change your credit card info and you have cancelled the one card, then you need to add the new card, then make it the default card, and then you can delete the other one. If you have any additional issues, then contact iTunes support for assistance. http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

  • If you registrate one Apple ID for each iPhone/iPad, you'll get 5GB on iCloud for each Apple ID, right? I have two iPhones and one iPad  with the same Apple ID, why can't I get 5 GB fo each of them?

Actually, everyone missed one point, when a device is priced, the cost of icloud storage space for that device is also included in it that is why they are able to give you 5gb each for each user ID, in nutshell there is nothing free coming with apple device purchase, it is paid for.  What they are trying by giving only 5gb per user ID irrespective of the number of devices used is pure broadlight looting, they take money from you when you buy each device and give you nothing, This is a case of goods and services bought but not fully deliverd ie apple can be suied for discreminatory treatment towards it's users. I wonder why no one tried this yet in America where everyone sue everyone for petty things..... there is no one to take up this issue? . if tim got any love for the guys who shell out money for the devices his company makes, he should be implimenting this as priority before someone wake up from sleep and sue him.

  • When I try to open a Pages document from iCloud, created on my iPad, I get message stating I need a newer version of Pages.  When I go to app store all I get is "installed" when looking at pages app. my Macbook pro is up to date with all updates.

When I try to open a Pages document from iCloud, created on my iPad, I get message stating I need a newer version of Pages.  When I go to app store all I get is "installed" when looking at pages app. my Macbook pro is up to date with all updates. Any ideas?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Connecting the iPad to the internet via the iPhone is done by setting up a personal HotSpot, but you have to have that supported by your carrier and have to have established the account to do so.
On the  iPhone, Settings > General > Network > Set Up Personal Hotspot

I started downloading a rental movie on apple tv, but I live in a rural area with terrible Internet download speed...is there anyway to stop the download, and resume downloading, onto my iPad when I have access in an urban setting with high speed Internet?

Yes, to be honest I was a little surprised myself. But it absolutely didn't connect when plugged into the test socket (I even tried to force a connection from the Home Hub manager but it wasn't having it). It is definitely the master socket. The only extension is a small piece of (engineer installed) phone cable to link the hub and the master socket (because the socket and mains power are unhelpfully on opposite walls of the hallway).
I ran the Java download for Google anyway and it only took about an hour. The speedtester results are as follows:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 109 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :2560 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
I don't as a rule disconnect / reboot the hub; today it has been dropping off on its own, while several days ago I tried a few reboots just to try and get a connection.
Additional info - my exchange is actually called Claypole Fenton (or vice versa). Whatever, my profile has probably been welded to 135k for days and days.
    Cheers
    Nick

Each device needs a separate address. Use an email address (gmail.com) on the iPad.

  • TS1702 I have an iphone and my 2 children have ipods.  all 3 on the same apple id.  when one of their ipods gets a face time call , all 3 devices ring. i dont want to get these face time calls on my iphone or the other ipod .  what is the solution to this

i have an iphone and my 2 children have ipods. all 3 on the same apple id.  when one ipod gets a facetime call, all 3 devices ring.  how do i prevent all three devices getting the facetime call as it is intended for only one of the ipods?

You can all have independent AppleIDs for iCloud or iMessage etc, but share the same one for iTunes Store / AppStore purchases.

  • I have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

i have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

    Try this:
Open the "Find my iPhone" app on your iPad, fill in your AppleID and password at the start up screen, and you should see a list of all your devices and their current location, if connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network. Devices not connected will be shown as "offline". But you can still trap on the icon and hit "erase iPhone" in the right hand window.
If your iPhone is not listed, you did not activate this feature during the setup of the phone and it can't be erased remotely.
If the phone is listed, even as offline, tap on "erase" to send the erase command. The next time your device will be connected to any kind of network, the content will be erased.

I have an iPhone and iPad. I would like to get my husband an iPhone. Are we able to sync all devices and share info with both iPhones and the iPad, using a single email address?

Thanks for that. He is one of the last holdouts in IT so an email address for him would just mean I have 2 to check so that is what I am trying to avoid as we move into retirement:)

  • We have two iphones and only one ipad.  We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones, which have separate apple ids.  How do we get our ipad to accept this?

We have two iphones and only one ipad - no mac.  We want to be able to use "find my iphone" for both phones.  How do we get the ipad to accept two iphone accounts?  icloud is enabled on all three devices.

Also, be aware of the following:
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod/iPhone should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.
