Reassigning AX's "Main/Default" Computer

Hi,
I have a Keyspan remote and I sent them this enquiry:
I have one of your 17B IR remotes and love it very much. It all worked well via my Airport Express and the latest iTunes on my Powerbook G4 until the day I decided to see if it would also work on my XP machine. It does...
But now I can't use the remote anymore to operate the Powerbook's iTunes. The Airport Express seems to 'think' it should send the keyspan's commands to the XP machine. It still works great to control the XP box but since I hardly ever use that one, I really want the Airport Express to send the Keyspan commands to the Powerbook again.
How can I 'unlink' this with the XP box and make it talk with my Powerbook again?
They said:
Airport Express will only talk to one computer at time. This is covered in the Apple docs. You should contact Apple for specific instructions on how to get the Mac to control the AE again. Most like this is done by setting the remote speakers but this is Apple question.
So here I am. Couldn't find anything in those Apple Docs so I hope I can pick your brains and get my Airport Express to fire its USB data packets to my Powerbook again.
G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   AX Firmware 6.3

Welcome to Discussions, JoeMcManus!
Perhaps the easiest is to reset the Express to factory default, which erases the "profiles" - all memory of contact with other computers. That'll give you a completely fresh start, just as if it were new. While "reset to factory default" may sound dramatic, it's actually quite simple, since it won't change the firmware of the Express, or the AirPort software on your Mac. You'll be back to normal in a few minutes:)
Refer to the last section "How to perform a factory default reset" on this page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
You'll know that a factory default has successfully occurred when the default name of the Express (Apple Network ____ ) shows in your menu bar's AirPort icon.

  • How to separate an accessory toolbox from the main (default) toolbox?

    Hi,
I accidently snapped a toolbox (containing the Transform, Align and Pathfinder tools) to the main (default) toolbox on the left of the window. Now I can't unsnapp it.
If I close the toolbox (by clicking the "x"), it also closes the main toolbox... It seems Illustrator just considers it is part of the main toolbox.
If I uncheck the "Tools" in the "Window" menu, only the default toolbox disapears (which is promising!), but if I close it and re-check the Tools, both toolboxes are still displayed.
Any idea of how I can separate the two toolboxes? It's not urgent, but it blocks my view and it is getting annoying... Thanks in advance!

  • ITunes default computer - new iMac will not back up APP's from iPhone 3GS

    Hi all,
I have had an iPhone 3gs since Feb and it sync'd to my Windows laptop fine, but this laptop died recently and I could not deathorise the computer before it did. I now have a brand new iMac and have installed iTunes, it will recognise my iPhone and Sync's calender and contacts but it will not sync my App's from my as it says my iPhone has another default computer, I can see them in iTunes but they are grey'd out. Before my laptop died I restored it to factory settings so even if I could get into it iTunes is not on there anymore - any help appreciated in helping me be able to sync my app's will be appreciated! Thanks, Matt

Iphone will sync itunes content to one and only one computer. When you sync to another it will erase the current itunes content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.

  • Locked out of my Itouch and no longer have the main sync computer

I lost my itouch a few months ago and recently found it under my couch while cleaning. I forgot my passcode. From what I have researched I need to have the main computer I sync it from to restore my itouch. Unfortunately I no longer have that computer. How can I restore my itouch with a computer it has never been synced to before? Thanks

Place the iPod in Recovery mode and restoe via iTunes. You will have to restore to factory defaults/new iPod since I do not think you have a backup.

  • Sync iPhone with two Macs or change main sync computer

    Hi there,
I have only been using my iMac to sync my iPhone with over the last 4 years.  However, recently I have been away from home a lot and have my Macbook Air with me.  I've connected my iPhone to the Macbook and been able to backup my phone to it.  My iTunes account is authorised to this computer too.  However, when I download the latest updates to my apps on my Macbook and hit sync, it won't sync the apps onto the phone.  It says sync complete but nothing happens.
Is it possible to sync with two machines?  FYI, I don't sync any music or movies, just apps.  I also have a few photos on my iPhone which were transferred from my desktop.
If I can only sync with one machine, how do I make my Macbook the main machine without losing anything from my phone?
    Many thanks.

  • 2 of my authorized computewrs have crashed and burned. Need to deauthorize them before adding the new computer, as well as one of then was my main itunes computer. how do i move everything

2 of my computers have crashed and burned in the last week. One of them was my main computer for itunes. i have 2 issues:
    1) i need to deauthorize the other 2 computers in order to authorize my new one.
2)how do i move all of my music etc to the new computer?
    thank you

Thanks much, that's very helpful for step one (getting old phone onto new phone).  Very clear.
However, I still have the problem of moving to the new computer.  How do I move the sync to the new computer after the new phone is set up?

  • New default computer with out a complete reload of IPOD

Hi My laptop recently broke which was the default one for my IPOD classic 120gb. I've since bought a new laptop but how do I make this my default laptop without having to reload my ipod. I've copied all the file from my old harddrive to the new computer but itunes option will only sync and overwrite what I have on my ipod. Can I get around this?
    Thanks

If you simply want to continue using the iPod without syncing (and losing the contents) then change it to manual management. When you connect to your new computer and you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. In manual mode you can drag and drop new content to the iPod from iTunes without erasing what's currently on it: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone

  • HT4527 I have successfully transferred my iTunes folder from an old pc to my new one.  How do I now make this new computer the main synchronising computer for my iPad.  Thank you.

I have successfully transferred my iTunes from my old computer to a new one just brought.  However when I tried to synchronise my iPad to new computer I had a message that said there was an upgrade available which I said I would like to proceed with.  However I then had a message that said I would lose all my apps etc if I did this and that I should use the old computer to do all synching.  How do I make the new computer my main computer for synching.  Grateful for any help.   Sez.

If you migrate your library properly you don't get the wipe & reload problem. If possible revisit your migration, or use the link at the end to associate your device with the new library.
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I need to reinstall the LinuxO.S. on the main Sync Computer, how to keep safe the data and transfer them on the new installation?

Simply I need to reinstall the Linux O.S. on the main FIrefox Sync computer, changing distro.
I would like if it is possible to recreate the same Main configuration on the new Firefox installation without loosing all the stored Sync data and keep synchronized all the others PCs.
    How can I do that?
    Thanks
    Marinerdrums

Yes, Firefox SYNC keeps your data in Firefox Server, and copy in your system

  • How do I change my main iTunes computer from a PC to a Mac?

I just want to repost this so that it won't look like it's answered.  It's not
I recently bought a Mac, to replace my PC.  I have a 2nd generation iPod running the latest (4.3.3 I think).  I have transfered all my files from my Windows to my Mac through USB, and all the files are also sitting on my Mac.  However, when I insert my iPod to the Mac, it can't sync apps without erasing the data on my iPod.  How do I do it without erasing it?  I have it backed up on my Mac and PC.  I also have a brother with a 4th generation iPod.  I assume the solution would be the same?  Thanks!!

When all the music, apps and other items are on the new computer:
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clciking n the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
The backup that iTunes makes does not include music, apps and other things.

  • How do I enable my new macbook pro to become my default computer to sync all my apple devices-iphone 4, touch, ipod classic, nano?  My five year old dell's hard drive has only 2GB of space available and is currently the computer I use for all these device

I have a new macbook pro that I wish to sync all my apple devices--ipodclassic,nano,iphone4,touch-- that are currently synced with a 5 year old windows based computer with only 2GB of available hard drive space. How can I do this and maintain all of my info-contacts, songs, photos etc without losing this data< Thanks

you can either update to lion/ios5 and use the cloud to sync or you can plug in said devices and sync them with your MBP instead of your dell via a tethered usb connection.
also, sign into your itunes store account on your mac.

  • Unable to set root/main/default servlet in Tomcat 5.5

I'm on a shared hosting account with Tomcat 5.5 and cannot figure out why I can't set the default servlet. I want all incoming requests regardless of the relative path, to be handled by the Redirect servlet. There is only one servlet in the whole project.
    Some examples
http://www.mydomain.com -> Redirect servlet (not working)
http://www.mydomain.com/ -> Redirect servlet (not working)
    http://www.mydomain.com/a -> Redirect servlet
    http://www.mydomain.com/blaldjflajdd -> Redirect servlet
With the below web.xml file, the last two above works just fine, but the first two gives a 403 error. What gives, I followed the Tomcat documentation to the teeth... It seems to work on my development server, but not on the shared hosting. Is this a setting anyone would block? Any help would be much appreciated.

              <url-pattern></url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>Any help would be much appreciated. I tried workarounds, by using an index.jsp file to supplement, but that isn't working quite right either. I prefer to have it setup properly though.... Please Help!!!

tomcat does not compile servlets, only JSP's will be translated and compiled on the fly. You need to compile them yourself, possibly using ANT or an IDE like NetBeans or Eclipse to make it easier to deploy the changes.

  • Maximum amount of Threads on a default computer?

    Hello,
i'm new and im creating a basic io server. I have 3 threads and then i create one thread per client.
So my question was, lets take a default windows xp with 512mb ram, how many threads would there be able to be made, in other words how many clients should i be able to create and handle.
    Thanks in advance!

The number of threads you can create will be in the hundreds or thousands or more. The number you should create depends on a lot of things, like how CPU-bound vs. I/O-bound your app is, how many processors or cores you have, and which value gives the best performance (by whatever your particular metrics are) when you tweak and measure.
As a rule of thumb, allocate 1 thread per CPU or core for CPU-bound tasks. For I/O tasks, you'll just have to play around. For file based I/O, one thread per physical disk that you're accessing is enough, maybe two. For network I/O, tens or possibly hundreds of threads should be reasonable.
You do NOT want to create one thread per client. Use a thread pool.
