Rebate from purchasing the first gen iPhone

I purchased the first iPhone shortly before the prices were lowered and they gave a rebate to those that already bought it. I recall doing a few things to get the rebate, but now that I want to use the rebate to buy the iPhone 3G s, I can't use the rebate; the Apple Store online won't recognize the number.
Something tells me that I didn't complete the process, but again I do remember doing several things, and I was given a 16-digit credit number. My question is, is that credit number what I need to get the rebate, or did I skip some stuff in the process and now I'm SOL?

If I remember correctly, when you completed the process, you got a bar code "coupon".

  • Purchasing a first-gen iphone...what to do?

i am buying a first gen. iphone from a lady i work with. i currently have a samsung blackjack. can i use the SIM card in the blackjack with the iphone, or am i going to have a purchase a new SIM from AT&T before i can activate the iphone? thanks!

I could be wrong, Jimmy, but previous reports here have all indicated that the SIM from any other model of phone, even if the service was with AT&T, would not work with an iPhone. An iPhone's SIM could work in another phone, but not the reverse. ZK should check with AT&T to be sure.
When I bought my original iPhone a year ago I was already an AT&T subscriber. I was required to extend my service two years (had been with them for 5 years so no big deal) and they said the SIM in my Samsung phone would not work and I had to activate with the new SIM provided with my then new iPhone. I never tried the Samsung SIM in the iPhone, since I was renewing for two years and there was no reason to.
I've also been told that if I need to send the iPhone in for service I can put the its SIM in the old Samsung and continue to use the phone functions.
If you've already bought it, all you can do is give it a try. But you may have to go to AT&T, get a new SIM and extend your plan two years.

  • Can I still get the support of the first gen iPhone if I buy Applecare?

Can I still get the support of the first generation iPhone if I buy Applecare? If I can't then can it be replaced by Apple?

Sorry, but you cannot buy AppleCare after the original one year warranty on your iPhone expired. If your  phone is damaged you can purchase an exchange for a refurbished one.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

I have purchased a Epson Workforce 435, can't AirPrint, will this work with the first gen iPad?

Also i forgot to add after a night of searching how to turn the Epson Workforce 435 printer into Airprint friendly and not iPrint (which are 2 completely different things) i donwloaded a program called (AirPrint Activator) from HandyPrint. The link is below to download the software. Once i installed the application i set my printer to be shared over my Home Network (Wi-Fi Network). Once you have done that, open the AirPrint Activator application you have just downloaded, swtich it ON from OFF mode, and then you should easily see your printer name in my case EPSON Workforce 435 and then just close the application. Then go to your IOS Device like your iphone/ipad/ipod touch select a picture that you want to test print or even an attached PDF from your email, and select Print in the share button. You will then be prompted to select your printer. Your printer you automatically be recongised then just select print. And now you have a complete AirPrint ready printer with a Printer that doesnt even support the function. Im sure you can do this to all Wireless Printers, even if they came out before Apple AirPrint service launch.
And also if you still need guidance and a video to follow from just click the Youtube link below

My wife and I each have an iPhone4 with separate Apple IDs. We are hopefully about to purchase the 4th gen iPad; can we use iCloud on the iPad with separate IDs on the iPhones?
We would like to have all our music, photos, etc. on the iPad - is it best to create a new combined Apple ID for the iPad and simply upload our music, photos, etc. via our laptop instead? Does this not then render the iCloud useless to us?

And just in case you were wondering, installing one purchased copy on all the Macs you own is specifically called out as allowed in the Mac OS X Lion license.
If you do not want to download multiple times, just copy the Applications -> Install Lion app to a safe place BEFORE you do the first install.  Then copy that copy to any Mac you own where you want to install Lion.

  • HT201269 Following these steps, has anyone run into the problem of losing the 4s data ability?  My phone no longer acknowledges my data plan.  I have to reset to factory settings to get it back, but then I also lose all the first gen backup transfer info.

Long story short, I'm trying to progress from my first gen iPhone to my iPhone 4s.  I sync my first gen as directed to create a backup, and then restore my 4s to the first gen backup.  However, once this is done (and it does successfully transfer my first gen phone apps, photos, texts, calendar, etc-etc to my 4s), my 4s phone no longer has 4g data like it did prior to syncing - it doesn't recognize my data plan at all.  The only way I can access the internet is through my wi-fi.  So then I have to reset to factory settings and re-plus my personal settings into the 4s but then I lose everything from the first gen transfer.  Any thoughts and/or recommendations/suggestions?  Many thanks.

  • App draining battery in first gen iPhone?

Last night I bought and installed the Apple Hold'em Poker app on my first gen iPhone -- seemed to work great. My phone was in the charge cradle and I waited until it had a full charge and I pushed the top "off" button when done (but didn't exit the app).
This morning the phone's battery lasted about 5 minutes before dying completely -- but when I turned it on it didn't seem to be "in" the Poker app. Has this happened to anyone else (regardless of the app)?
I've never had a battery issue before, but I'm beginning to think the app itself drained the battery -- which might make me have to remove it. Would love to have some feedback on this issue (hey -- it's an Apple app: you'd think they would have got this right :>)

Additional info: the usage time is the same as the standby time. I suspect that the messages app is keeping the phone from sleeping.

  • Location screwed up on first gen iPhone running 2.0

Alright, so I have an 8gb first gen iPhone that I just installed 2.0 on. Everything seems to be working fine aside from a few little hang ups here and there. The big problem I have had, however, is that the phone has no idea where I am. In fact, it thinks I am somewhere else altogether. I live in Massachusetts, specifically on cape cod and yet my phone is quite sure that I'm in Durham, North Carolina. I was in Durham in December, but haven't been there since. I'm really confused as to why my phone would be so off. It even sits and does the "acquiring location" bit, but always comes back with the location of the house I visited in NC. Very odd. Any ideas?

If you have WiFi on (even if not on a WiFi network) it will send in all MAC addresses and they partnered with SkyHook which goes around mapping out WiFi MAC addresses with GPS. Thus if your router was mapped when it was down in Durahm, then it is in the database for being down there. So when your MAC address goes into location services, it comes back with that and it always chooses WiFi mac info if found over what a tower will say, if no Mac addresses are found (or WiFi is off) then it will use the tower (not triangulation like some think) and send back info of that tower you are hitting.

  • Will the first gen ipad support display mirroring via airplay when IOS5 is released?

From what I have read, IOS5 will support display mirroring on the ipad 2.. Is this likely to be added to the first gen ipad ? If so then great, but if not, why not? Im sure if you can wirelessly stream music and movies to an Apple TV device (connected via wifi) from the ipad one, then surely you must be able to use display mirroring ?

In case you didn't click on the link above that is on the Apple site:
    AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2
Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad display up there on the big screen — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out on photos.2
So unless you were told be Steve Jobs that the iPad 1 will also do AirPlay Mirroring it really doesn't matter what you have been told, you are posting at best speculation but more likely misinformation.
And no, don't have anything better to do.

  • HT201335 Is there a technical reason why the first gen iPad will not mirror?

I have a first gen iPad running 5.1.1
I had 5.1 and that did not work either.
A new 2012 apple tv and no go on the mirroring. My iPhone 4a mirrors. Why can't the first gen iPad

I think the newer iPads have a 5 or 5x chip set.  What are they using in the first gen?
I never thought of my iPad as slow
I couldn't tell you off the top of my head.
Yes iPad 1 still seems good for me too, but the 3rd gen is noticeably smoother in use.
Absolute specs are really irrelevant - Apple have not allowed the iPad 1 to mirror and that's that - pretty much like older Macs pre 2011 not being able to do so due to lack of a CPU feature.

The first generation Intel-based Mac's were released in January 2006.
Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

  • Are 3g chargers backwards compatible with first gen iphone?

so i know that older chargers don't seem to work on the 3g iphones, but are the newer chargers backwards compatible with the 2g iphones?
i was thinking of getting some after market wall & car chargers for my first gen iphone, but i rather buy ones made for the 3g iphones just incase i upgrade soon (and i don't want to repurchase the chargers)
    anyone know?

well I'm aware that certain first gen chargers won't work with the 3G, but i've come across this 3g car charger which specifically states it's not compatible with a first gen iphone. strange.

unfortunately it doesn't say if it's the same case with their 3g wall charger.

I don't know cause Apple decided for me.
As does Microsoft anytime that they release a new update that is no longer compatible with the old PC hardware.
I would hope that Microsoft and Apple would both know what operating systems will run on the hardware that is produced for them.
I would also hope that Microsoft and Apple know better than you do as to what would work on their devices, tablets, computers, phones .... How much time and money have you put into research and development on the iPad?
