Rebel T4i - problem with dark/black corners in "landscape" mode

Hi I wanted to ask if someone could help. I am having problem while shooting pics. in "landscape" mode. Sometimes one, two or three corners are more or less black/dark.
thank you in advance for any advices.
Josef

Very wide angle lenses can also have this issue simply if a filter (e.g. a "UV" filter or polarizing filter) is attached.
Usually if _only_ the corners are affected then it's caused by something physically blocking the light and not an electronic problem or mechanical malfunction.  The curtain shutters slide top-to-bottom (not from the corners) and likewise the CCD doesn't read-out from the corners inward, etc.

  • Rebel T4i Kit with 18-135mm Lens, STM lens like Amazon?

Amazon has it for the same price, but I noticed it is listed as the STM lens, which is a new lens specifically built for the t4I.
Bestbuy has it listed for the same price, but doesn't list it with STM.
No point in buying the same camera with an older lens from Bestbuy when you can get the same one from Amazon with the new lens.
    Hope this can be clarified.

  • Problems with dark Artifacts on images when viewed on PC screens???

I have a very urgent problem concerning Adobe Photoshop CS3, my Apple Cinema 20 inch Display and my SpyderPro2 on my Mac Pro Intel Dual Core Xeon 2x 2.66GHz.
I have been using the Spyder for some years now, but recently I have been having big problems with the results. I only use Photoshop CS3 to enhance digital products images.
I have a major contract with a jewellery company in London, where I clean up digital photos. Images that I have lightened up to look great on my Cinema Display have been reported by my client to look pretty dark on their PC's in their offices.
Some of these images show lines and grubby patches??? To check this I opened files in Photoshop and moved the levels 'black' slider down quite some way, and did see evidence of what the client could see at their end? It seems that when I have used a faded eraser brush it leaves a light patch in between the shadows of the jewellery. This shouldn't be visible to the naked eye though?
I must point out that when I use the eyedropper tool on images, to read the amount of grey or colour in the white areas around the peices, I am shown values of 1,2 or 4 maximum in the CMYK values. 4 percent out of 100 is nothing and should not be visible to the naked eye?
How is it that my clients PC's can see dark shadows and where my eraser brush has rubbed out???
I have tried many re-calibrations and also tested all of my older calibrations dating back a few years. I have also tested the same faulty images on Intel iMac's, an eMac, and a few PC's. On the iMac's I can just about make out the artefacts that my client can see, but nothing that I would deem as unacceptable.
I am at a loss as to the fault, but It may be the Spyder2 Pro's inability to calibrate my Apple Cinema display properly? I may lose my contract which I cannot afford to do, and I simply have to find the cause ASAP.
I have my Mac's in my office apartment next to two bay windows. I have vertical blinds there. When calibrating I have always turned off all the lights and pulled the blinds right back so that only the light from the two large window doors is coming in.
For graphic design the calibrations seemed to be okay for quite some time, but recently it is getting harder to achieve good results with the Spyder? This could affect all of my workflow which is very serious. But I must stress that overall the Spyder results are not terrible. I can see good colours and dark levels and in general across all of my calibrated profiles, the jewellery looks acceptable on my Cinema Display?
I did say to my clients that they should calibrate their PC screen properly but their offices have many Screens and they all show the same artefacts (some much worse than others)? I know that PC Screens are darker than Mac's but a 4% grey should not be visible????
As these are a web company the images will be seen by PC users around the world and most of these will have no calibration on their screens. What can be done to prevent this and what is the cause of this? I can't possible please everyone, but as a creative professional I have to be 100% certain that my workflow is at its best.
I need urgent help to solve this or loose valuable business? I hope that you are able to help solve this mystery. Could this possibly be something with Photoshop?
I have just purchased the new Spyder3 Pro which I hope will give perfect results but I have to find out what the cause of this is. If some of the fault lies with the client, I can charge these for all the testing and calibrating I have done.
    Kind regards,
    Jason Conway
    ideo-sync - inspired design.

Thanks for all your comments and so quickly.
To be clearer, I am not working in CMYK for image enhancing at all, but windows RGB in photoshop, which is darker than working CMYK or Monitor RGB. I just use the CMYK colour scale in the photoshop colour picker window to see what values are around the object.
its not 4 across all four but on average C4, M2, Y1, K0.
When saving in save for web the images look fine on my screen, pretty much the same as the photoshop tiff file.
Each image has adobe RGB 1998 embedded when saved as a tiff file.
The client looks on internet explorer 7 on their PC's and also within Photoshop.
Colour settings within photoshop are using MacUser magazine's recommended setting from 2006: RGB: Adobe RGB 1998, CMYK: Euroscale Coated V2, Grey: Generic Grey, SPOT: 20% dot gain. Engine: Apple CMM, Intent: Relative Colorimetric. Also Black point compensation and User Dither are checked.
Also the monitor calibration is set at 6500 at 2.2 gamma.
To be clearer about the dark shadowing and the artefacts. When using levels I click on a shadow point to remove all but a slight shadow. Then I sometimes need to use the faded eraser to clean up or lessen the shadow. The image looks fine on my screen, but in the levels window I drag the black pointer about a third of the was across the screen to simulate what the client is seeing on their screen. This is quite a long way to drag the slider. I can sometime see the edges of the image, or white holes where the eraser has been. The lines are areas around the object that have been rubbed out a bit.
I agree that colour values will show on a screen, but the effect of the shadow should be smooth and not clearly visible with an edge?
    http://www.ideo-sync.co.uk/p110741.jpg
    also p110741.tif
I have uploaded the layered tiff file and the web jpeg to my server, so you can hopefully see something odd?
If there is a problem with my cinema display at least its under warranty, and the new Spyder3 pro should help when it arrives in a few days time.
Hopefully I can pinpoint the exact cause to this and take steps to stop this ever happening again. I am very grateful for your advice and help.
    Kind regards,
    Jason.

  • 5D mark III lens correction problem with dark shots

Just found a new irritating problem with 5D mark III and Lightroom 4 (currently on 4.2). I shot quite a few shots in the dark over the weekend using high ISO (6400-16000), with EF 24-70 f/2.8L. If I enable the lens profile correction on the dark shots, the corners of the images all develop incredibly strong purple haze that renders the image unusable. Not enabling the correction allows me to use the images just fine. Also images that were shot with similar settings but were shot inside, with more light, don't have the purple fringing issue. Makes me wonder if this is some incompatibility between Canon's high iso noise reduction system and Lightroom's RAW processing when it does lens corrections.
    Anyone else seen this?

    Sulka Haro wrote:
Replicated the shot under a heavy blanket -> yes, the exposure looks the same. Whatever is causing the corner to be noisier than rest of the exposure doesn't seem to be caused by light.
At that very high of ISO you are actually seeing small differences in the sensor chip temperature due to heat from the electronics in the camera. The small amount of increased noise you're seeing in the corner at ISO 25600 is insignificant.
    Sulka Haro wrote:
Interestingly enabling long exposure compensation doesn't seem to do very much to really improve the shots at these sensitivities. When enabled, the exaggerated corner noise does disappear, but also it looks like some areas in the middle of the exposure become more noisy with non-uniform noise blotches appearing instead of fairly uniform slightly higher noise pattern.
I haven't needed to use Long Exposure Noise Reduction with my 5D MKII, so have no firsthand experience. My guess is that at very high ISO settings (above 6400) a lot of what your are seeing is random noise or "shot noise," which changes from frame to frame. This causes the dark frame subtraction to "fail" in the way you are seeing. Just a guess.
There is an excellent 5D MKIII review that compares noise reduction with several other high-end camera models. The reviewer also states,
"The 5D Mark III's ISO 51200 and 102400 remain a complete mess even with strong noise reduction applied - You have to be desperate to use these settings. ISO 12800 and 25600 remain very marginal for my uses. I always shoot in the lowest standard ISO setting that will allow me to get my desired shot, but begin to cringe when settings above ISO 3200 must be employed. Your standards and applications may be different."

  • Y 70-70 screen : problems with the black and white colors

Hi all, I just bought a Lenovo Y70-70 and already encountered several problems with the screen :- I had to change the notebook twice because of clearer zones on the black and because of dead pixels- The model I have now still presents irregularities in the black : if the screen is black, I can still see a few clearer zones on it, especially (but not exclusively) on the edges- concerning the white, I am a bit disappointed too : this color present zones that are sometimes ok, sometimes more yellow. Even if it is subtle, I nevertheless particularily see this effect when reading or typing, due to an optical effect that amplifies the phenomenom when text is displayed which tires my eyes. I also see it on colors like beige or grey. As I use this computer to play but also to work, it is uncomfortable. What I would like to know is if these problems are inherent to the screen, or if it is a defect. What should I do ? Did other people encounter the same problems ? I didn't find any setting to improve it. I found that these problems may be link to these, reported on the Y50-70 :- https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y50-Yellow-Dark-Yellow-Screen-Calibration/td-p/1868613- http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RCQNONXIKJJ5D/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00MCJQ6MI#RCQNONXIKJJ5D Othewise this notebook is OK, playing with it is a real pleasure. Thank you for your answer,S.

Installation of Mavericks is the culprit here. Lightroom versions 4.4 and earlier are not fully compatible with OS 10.9.x. There will be no more updates to Lightroom version 4.x so the only fix is to upgrade Lightroom to 5.0 or later or reinstall an older OS on Mac.

There can be several things that could effect your issue. If you are using a color calibration device, it may change your white balance. Check and verify that you really are using pure white when filling, a value of 255, 255, 255 thats red, green, and blue. Check and see what color mode you are in, are you in 8 bit, 16 or 32 bit. Are you in RGB, CMYK, or other color mode.
I am sure there are a few other things, that I haven't thought of at the moment that can effect your issue.
The next question is what do you mean by black and white? or should I say how did you make it that way. Was it already a black and white (grayscale)? or did you convert it in photoshop and if so how. The reason I ask is there are more than one way to convert a color image to black and white and how you do it will effect the final outcome.

  • Problem with Dark Room theme.

I have created a homepage in iWeb 3.0.1 with the Dark Room theme (web.me.com/jmsuijkerbuijk). Everything looks fine (that is: the way I intended) in Safari 4.0.3 and OmniWeb 5.10.1, incomplete in Opera 10.00 and Camino 1.6.10, and plain terrible in Firefox 3.5.3 (you really don't want to know the result in Internet Explorer under Parallels!).
The problem is manifest with pictures that are titled and/or drop a shadow. In both Opera and Camino the shadows are missing; in Firefox the shadows are present, but are not titled with the picture itself, which returns a ridiculous result.
Is there something I can do to have all or most browsers show proper imaging? Thanks in advance!

Camino 1.6.10, however, has problems rendering the pages in a number of areas. I don't worry about Camino as it's not used by many.
There are just two pages that look to have problems with Firefox 3.5.3. The Biography and Score Samples. The photos have both a drop shadow and reflection. The drop shadow is misbehaving. However, on the Welcome page there appears to be both a reflection and drop shadow on the three image and they look fine. The difference is that those three are links. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Opera just doesn't support the java script create drop shadows. As for IE you'll have to really dummy down the site to get it to work with IE. Roddy has a number of posts and a site that gives many tips on making a site more compatible with IE.

  • Problems with the A key in landscape keyboard iPhone 5s (32GB AT&T black)

    I have a black iPhone 5s 32Gb through AT&T.
Recently I've been having a lot of problems with typing in landscape mode.  It may only be in the messages app, I'm not sure, that's definately when I notice it the most.  What happens is I will be typing very fast and I'll go to type 'a' and nothing happens.  I try a few more times and frequently the phone will freeze for a second, sometimes go black, sometimes even crash the app.  If I flip the phone to type in portrait I don't have any problem.
Has anyone else seen this?  Is this a software issue or is something wrong with my hardware?

Try to reset the device by pressing hold of the home and power button for 15-20 seconds and letting of when the Apple logo appears.

  • IMac 20" with dark screen corners

    Hi folks,
I've got an iMac 20" Core Duo which iI purchased in October 2006. My Applecare has expired.
I've just noticed the tiniest little 'smudge' in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. At first I thought it was dirt on the outside of the screen, but carefully cleaning shows that the screen is spotless.
Has anyone else seen this? Is the display dying, or is there contamination on the inside of the screen? WIll it worsen or is there anything else I can do to improve/fix/stop it?
    My lovely, beautiful, iMac!....[stay calm].....

What does the smudge look like. Can you post a photo?
If it's looking like dirt (and not merely uneven backlight, which almost all iMacs have), it could be under the front glass. This is rather easy to fix. The front glass is attached to the computer with magnets and can be lifted off with suction cups. When the glass is lifted off, you have access to the underside of the front glass and to the outside of the lcd panel. Both can be cleaned with a damp microfiber cloth without much risk.
Here's a youtube video that demonstrates the removal:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cHMHzq5E5I&feature=related
He just brushes the LCD panel, but you may actually need to clean the underside of the glass too. As said, wiping (not hard rubbing) with a damp (not wet) microfiber cloth is okay. Both surfaces are glass and to my knowledge they are not coated. If you use distilled water and newly bought cloth (wipe damp, then wipe dry with 2nd dry cloth) you'll be able to get the surface clean with no residue.
You actually don't need a fancy suction cup like he does, any suction things will work, like a bathrooom towel holder. Just when you pull the top away, don't tilt it too far, just enough to be able to get a hold of the sides like he does in the video and then pull the whole thing away.
If this does not cure it, it's either dirt inside the LCD panel (this can happen too) or a problem with the backlight of the panel, which will both be bad news because it's hard or impossible to fix.

  • Problems with manually renaming files in List Mode

I have an iMac 24" 2.4 Ghz with 4 Gb of RAM. Sometimes when I try to rename a file in a folder in List mode, I get unexpected and strange behavior. It is intermittent. It might be that I cannot get the highlighted current name to unhighlight (in cases where I only want to change a portion of the name), or the filename box might disappear, or the folder seems to lockup, or I get blocks every other space instead of letters. Weird, strange results. I do know that I can minimize the problem, if when first entering the filename box (by hitting 'return') I move the cursor via the cursor keys to the right over the extension and then back to the left. When I do that, it seems like I have less problems.
All I can say is that it doesn't seem to be a robust as what I was used to in the Windows world. I'm new to Mac and this is the only complaint I have. I'm ecstatic about my Mac and can't believe I waited this long to convert over to it. If I could get this little glitch fixed, I'll be a 'happy camper'! (the problem's certainly not enough to make me go back to the misery I was in with Microsoft.)
Has anyone else experienced any problems such as this? Or, is there a possibility that there is something wrong with my Mac?
Or, am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for any kind help I receive.
    Matt

Finder for Intel is the same as Finder for PPC. Its the same code, sans some endian conversions.
As for the renaming problem. Two things come to mind. In Tiger if you selected a file and pressed return, no matter what view style you were in, it would bring up the edit field and the entire name would be highlighted. In Leopard, this was changed slightly where it will now highlight everything up to the file extension. So if you have a file called 'foo.txt', it will highlight just 'foo'. This is a nice feature IMO because more often then not I don't want to change the file extension, only the 'body' of the file name.
The Edit box disappearing is a bug that has been around for a couple OS releases where if something causes the view to update (more specifically the HIDataBrowser control List View is made of) while your renaming something, it will cancel the rename session. This can be caused by a bunch of things, like the size of a file changing or mod date changing or file being added to the directory etc. It has been around for a while, but has only become more prominant due to the addition of Icon Thumbnails in Leopard. When the thumbnail is created for the file by the Finder, List View updates to show the new thumbnail which cancels the edit session. There are a couple workarounds for this:
    1) Switch to Icon or Column View
    2) Wait for all the thumbnails to be created before starting to edit file names. Thumbnails appear pretty quickly, and only for the files that are currently visible in the window, so you shouldn't have to wait very long, and it only happens the first time you view that folder.
    3) Press Command-J while in List View and uncheck "Show Icon Previews" and then click the "Use as Defaults" button. That will turn off the icon thumbnails for all windows in List View.
I haven't seen a problem with "blocks showing up every other space" though. I assume you mean a solid black square, right? Sounds like an invalid character in the file name. Renaming the file to something else should cure that one.

  • Problem with Adobe Flash Player in fullscreen mode

Hi everybody, I have noticed a problem with flash player while I'm watching streaming programs in fullscreen mode.
The problem is that when I'm watching something in fullscreen mode and the quality is set to "high" I have a stammer in both sound and image.
When I 'm watching in "medium" quality everything is fine in fullscreen mode.
The default selection is "high", how can I change this to "medium" ?
It's very annoying to change this all the time manually.
    thxx in advance
p.s. I use windows 7 64bit ultimate and the latest version of both firefox and adobe flash player

So, you didn't need help with anything, you just wanted to rant?

  • If you have problems with Yahoo, start FF4 in safe mode and see if it works. If yes, you have a problem with one of your add-ons.

Apparently some of your "good" add-ons do not work right with FF4. If you have a problem with YAHOO MAIL, start FF4 in Safe Mode (Restart with add-ons disabled from the Help menu). Then try your Yahoo again. If everything works, then the problem is with one of your add-ons. You can selectively work out which add-on is the problem. For a lot of these user problems, this should help... worth a try anyway.

    Anything?

  • Problems with dark colours importing photos in iMovie 11

    Hello,
I have a problem importing photos from iPhoto Library 11 to iMovies 11 in order to build a video HD 1080p.
When iMovie creates the snapshot of the photo, happens that dark photo's colours (above all black) appears ginned with low resolution and, even after the rendering in 1080p, wathing the video via apple TV or in Blu ray disk, this unliky effect on black colour is rilevant
    Thanks

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Ti 9800se problem with install, black screen of death!

I have a 4800 that was in my system and I am now giving it to my buddy.  After I install the drivers and it reboots I get the windows logo screen and then it just goes black and either freezes or restarts.  I downloaded the newest drivers but havent tried them yet on his system.
He's got a pentium 4 1.9 with a AOpen mb (model AX4T II) and a coolmax 350w power supply.  He had a tnt 2 32mb card in it prior to install and it worked fine just to slow.  Any pointers would be great before I go back over to his house and try again.
So apart from the newest NVidia drivers (45.32) what else can I try.  Maybe taking his other pci cards out?....I don't know.  Is it the power supply?
    Thanks for your input,
    Bret

If you think that the VGA are sharing IRQs but can't confirm, you can check through your control panel> Admin Option> Computer Management> System> Harware> IRQs.
If you think that your 350watts is not giving enough power, you can check and post the specs here to confirm.
Btw, a full system specs will be better for verification of the problem.

  • Problem with "small black line in right margin" with Folio Builder / Adobe Viewer in Ipad. Id CC.

    Hi there,
When I create a Folio Builder and I check my Id project in the Adobe Viewer (It happens in the Ipad App and in the Desktop Viewer), I can see a black line in the right margin (maybe 4 px). And I can't adjust my background (It's an object with a colour) to use the "full resolution available for the app in the ipad", and yes, I'm using rules and I can see that my background object it's 1024 x 768. I have tryed several projects and upgraded the project to the "30 version".
But I'm a new user with ID/DPS. So, is this a reported bug? Or I'm doing sth wrong?
And for me, the most important question, will this problem be solved when I send my project to the applestore and DPS transform my Folio to the Store? Or what I see now it's what I will see?
    Thanks!

Sorry! I have found an answer here in the discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5835960#5835960
So, the problem will be solved in the final app, and it's just the scroll in the Viewer.
    Thanks!
