Rebilding Library, then Broken Pla

My stupid Zen Microphoto would rebuild its library a lot. When i'm mowing the lawns, walking to school, coming down the stairs, sitting down etc. Just when i'm doing normal everyday thing, not being rough. I got sick of it one day. REEEEEALY SICK OF IT! and took the battery out when it was doing it. Now its broken. It can't read the HDD disc. SO i t wont get past the "creative" welcome screen. It can still charge. I can still accesss recovery mode, but because it cxant read the disc it cant do anything. Cant connect to computer either. What should I do!?

I just had to reformat the external hard drive that houses my iPhoto library, then restore it from a backup. Now Time Machine is telling me my backup hard drive suddenly does not have the space to complete a backup. I also noticed when I go in to Time Machine, there are only about 5 backups recorded on the ext. hard drive. There were many more before. Any idea what happened and if I have to buy a new back up hard drive?

    Hallo  Kieth ,
I am not quite ready to restore the full iphoto library , as I have days of work re - imputting titles, descriptions and enhancement . I hope that your suggestion works , as I use my Macbook basically to work with digital photography. Through time , I will need to delete my library to recover more disc space and I would hate to have to spend more time re - imputting titles and descriptions all over again .
Thanks for your interest and advice.

I am trying to move my library and playlists to a new computer by burning to CD's. However, I followed the directions by going to File and then Library - then they said to go to burn CD(s) - I DO NOT have that option for some reason. How do I do this? I have done the library sharing thing but I am getting rid of my primary computer and am afraid I will lose the library.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

    Hi
Just to clarify a couple of points in your post.
RAM (memory) is different from hard drive space. You have 4GB of RAM, but that has no bearing on the amount of drive space you have, of which we know that 79GB are photos.
If those photos are in iPhoto, you should be able to move the entire iPhoto Library, from the Pictures folder, to your external hard drive. You can just drag and drop. Do not have iPhoto open while you're doing this. Once it's done, you can double-click on the moved iPhoto Library file to associate it with iPhoto, so that the app remembers where the library is for next time.
One more thing. When you move a file to a different location, and then delete the original, you don't have a backup. You still only have one copy. So if that external drive dies, you will lose all your photos. Time Machine is a very good way to prevent this from happening. You should dedicate a different drive for Time Machine backups.

I erase by mistake my itunes library, then in my trash I foud it and do put it back; but now all the song are in itunes library but they can find any of them. what can I do?

Have you looked at the settings in iTunes.  Is music syncing manual or automatic.  More info please.  I would try removing all restrictions as an initial test.

    Hi,
    /Users/sarahschadek/Desktop/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
Move the Safari app from the Desktop to the Applications folder.
    Restart your Mac.
    That's why you see this:
When I try to do the updates my computer says it has ready it goes through like it is downloading them then at the end it says some of the files could not be saved to "/" files.
After your restart your Mac, click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click:  Software Update ...

can't open iphoto in airbook. Asking to upgrade then says must rebuild library then warning about missing files. When click rebuild all I get is continued- waiting for iphoto library- and, never rebuilds

-1.The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.
Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete.
    2. iPhoto is unable to open this library.
The library has issues that require rebuilding to correct
    3. Warning
Would you like to rebuild the library "iPhoto Library"?
The library "iPhoto Library" is missing required database files and must be rebuilt before it can be opened.
    4. Waiting for iPhoto library
iPhoto will open as soon as the iPhoto library is available
Time Machine might be backing it up

  • Updating library, then crashes, haven't seen anything else.?

I photo.   Says updating library then closes. ?

    iPhoto doesn't run on Windows.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key )

I am unable to write down because the log is moving too quickly.
Well, you don't have to write down anything. Just click on the message and copy it. Then paste it here, or in a text editor (eg, TextEdit). And you can enter a string like "Audio CD" (w/o the quote marks) in the filter and see only messages containing it.
mds[71]: (Error) Server: Failed to register path "/Volumes/Audio CD"
That's the metadata server, used by Spotlight. AFAIK, Spotlight does not index audio CDs, so what is this about? I don't know. Maybe it's the cause of what you observe; or maybe it's another symptom. Thinking again of the network issue… have you maybe installed some third-party software related to both Spotlight and the network (Searchlight perhaps)?

  • HT3847 renamed itunes library then lost file

I changed computers multiple times, and across a few employers.  I renamed my library then copied to desktop/HD of a new Mac.
Ran out of room on Mac, transferred library to a large mish mash of offline storage (Sugar Sync) files and now cant find file.

I also considered using these tools to recover the playlists from my wife's iPod. Thankfully, that wasn't necessary.

RESOLVED!!! I logged on to my Straight Talk online account, and did a Tech Chat. They immediately gave me a direct phone number and a Reference PIN number and asked me to contact their iPhone specialty support. I called (of course the gentleman's accent was very difficult for me to understand, but managed with asking continually for clarity). He walked me through several tests, setting changes and had me get on my wifi to obtain the latest APN settings. None of his efforts worked ad it was obviously NOT my Straight Talk iPhone 5, 64GB CDMA (no SIM) - it was something with their setting on their end on my account. I was placed on hold a few times and he would come back on to have me try to get on Safari and even Google... after the 3rd on-hold, he returned and asked me to try to use my data again without the wifi turned on and BINGO it worked... I still do not have my wifi turned on and I'm still receiving texts from YESTERDAY too while I was away from wifi service. IF you come across this issue - please call Straight Talk and/or log on to your Straight Talk online account and talk to an online customer service representative and get their direct line phone number for iPhone support and have your Reference PIN number available. Good Luck

  • I had my shuffle synced with this computer and library. then i went and did it with an older nano. now my computer is not recognizing my shuffle. how do i fix this without losing my purchased songs or library?

i had and old nano that i havent touched in years. well just recently i synced my new shuffle to my computer and all went well. i then wanted to put the newly purchased songs on my nano. well when i did that somehow my computer no longer recognizes my shuffle. not to mention someone cut me off the other day and my nano went for a swim and will not work. please help me

    Try this:
Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • HT1347 I'm having trouble importing a CD into my iTunes library, then finding it later.  Using the newest version of iTunes, and I had no problems doing this with the older version..

Today I was prompted to update iTunes, which I don't use that often.  I found it was the newest version.  Now, however, when I try to add a CD to my Library, I cannot find it.  When I click import CD, it does not give me an option on where to save it to.  I didn't have any trouble with the older version of iTunes, but now I am completely confused.  I have read the file on Learn about iTunes, and it only tells me how to do it on the older version.  Can someone please tell me how to do this now?  I'd really appreciate it!
Oh, my OS is Windows Vista.

iMac optical drive problems are often attributable to heat. The newer Intel iMacs aren't as bad as the 1st Gen G5s were (I know... I had one), but Apple optical drives tend to "flake out" when they get hot, and in iMacs, they get hot quickly. Near the end of my iMac's life, I was ONLY able to use the optical drive within the first five minutes after booting up. After that, it wouldn read, write or even accept a disc.
If yours works right after a long sleep or shut down, but then goes to failing, it's probably heat.

  • Changing music library from broken external to a second external

My itunes library is(was?) housed in an Iomega external drive.  It's on the fritz...dunno what's up.  I back that drive up every couple of weeks to another external drive...a Seagate. Not the library per se, but all the band folders.  So, all the songs (except those since my last backup) that are in my  screwed-up Iomega are also in my Seagate # 2 external.
If I go into iTunes preferences now, it says my iTunes media folder location is : /Users/xxxxx/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media
If I recall correctly, it said it was in the Iomega when the Iomega was functioning.
I have a feeling this isn't as simple as changing the iTunes media folder location in iTunes preferences to the Seagate drive.
Will iTunes magically recognize all my songs and from that point forward will all new songs go to the Seagate?
In the Seagate, songs are are housed in an "iTunes Media" folder.  If I recall correctly, that was the name of the Iomega folder, too.

All preferences does is tell iTunes where to start storing media from that point on.  It doesn't actively update your media information in iTunes.
Now you say your library was housed on the iomega.  Do you really mean that?  A library is everything in the iTunes folder including the all-important iTunes Library.itl file.  The .itl file contains all the information about tracks you have entered into the iTunes database, where they are located, your playlists, ratings, play count, etc.  If you had that on your internal drive (your "library" wasn't really on the external, only media) it may be possible to re-link the references to the actual files.  If your iTunes is no longer using that and all you are seeing right now is a blank iTunes window then you are back to building your library from scratch.  Oh, you still have the media and can add that, but all else is lost.
