Reboot, I do NOT want everything to re-open
The more I use OS X Lion the less I Like it.
When I re-boot/restart, I do NOT want all the software and files to re-open with the reboot. I REPEAT!! I do NOT want all the software and files to re-open with the reboot.
Is there anyway to STOP this from happening....PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE I hope there is.
I think LION has gone way to far in making the techies happy, but the millions of "Normal" users, very, very confused and ticked off.
p.s. I have only 10 fingers and need 5-10 fingers more to STOP the constant expansion and weird action of the trackpad and Magic Mouse.

This must be a strange, new definition of the word "EVERYTHING" that most of us aren't familiar with.
The following scenario illustrates one thing (of many) that you cannot control from System Preferences in Lion:
1. Open up three Terminal windows.
2. Un-check System Preferences->General->Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps.
3. Issue a Restart. Un-check the option Reopen windows when logging back in on the "Are you sure ..." dialog box.
4. After restart, log back in.
5. Open a single Terminal window.
Four Terminal windows will open: the one which you opened in Step 5, and the three that you opened in Step 1.
In other words, the un-checking of the System Preferences->General->Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps setting is ignored when shutting down and restarting, even when also un-checking Reopen windows when logging back in as part of the shutdown dialog.
The following ugly hack fixes this "feature" for Terminal. It might also work for other applications, but YMMV: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15860751#15860751

A new window opens by default with the home page(s).<br />
If you want a blank window then you need to open an about:blank page in a new window.<br />
You can do that with a bookmark that you open with a Shift+ left-click in a new window.<br />
Otherwise you need to set the Home page to a blank page and use a bookmark to open the preferred Home page in a new tab. -
I have three or four sites that I want pinned when my browser opens. And would like only those to open pinned and not have another tab (homepage) open.

I understand your frustration and surprise at the removal of these features but I can't undo these changes. I'm just a support volunteer and I do not work for Mozilla. But you can send any feedback about these changes to http://input.mozilla.org/feedback. Firefox developers collect data submitted through there then present it at the weekly Firefox meeting
I recommend you try to adjust to 29 and see if you can't make it work for you before you downgrade to a less secure and soon outdated version of Firefox.

I do not like opening up a tab and then typing in a URL to go where I want to go. It was much better when I could search for something, and it would come up in a separate window. How do I change it back?
You can hold down the Shift key while left-clicking a link on web pages.<br />
You can add a New Window button to a toolbar via "View > Toolbars > Customize" to open a new window when needed. You can also drag (text) links onto that button to open links in a new widow. -
iMessage just hijacked my SMS messages, I cannot open my SMS board without registering into IMessage - which I do not want to use. SMS message function is from my phone provider. Has anyone a solution to get around this? While trying to get out, I discontinued ICloud - did not help. This seems an example of very poor understanding that the users do NOT want everything monopolized by Apple.
You can't send or receive SMS text messages on your iPad, it isn't a phone and doesn't have a cellular voice channel. There are third party apps that permit SMS text messaging.

What do you want to happen when a site speciies that a link should open in a new window?

* Force it into the same tab. There's no built-in setting for this, but an add-on might be able to do it.
There are some Firefox features that open a new tab, and there's no easy way to force these to a new window. You would have to work around it. If there are particular ones that annoy you, please mention what they are. -
I have somehow done away with the window to read the email without clicking and opening - I cannot figure out where to go to put it back! I do not want to click to open and read ea. email - there is too many - I want the mail boxes and the preview pane - just missing that additional window to the right - please help if you know how to get it back.
Or double click on the bar to the far right and it will reset.

How will having another icloud email benefit me. I have my work email which is all i require, but had to set up a @me account to get email on my Macbook.
I have a Mac computer that i upgraded to Mountain lion, a macbook pro and an iPhone 4s which has the latest software. all i want is simplicity and to have one email account which which will not duplicate everything 4 or 5 times.
My notes are duplicated, i have to delete my emails individually on all devices so whenever i put my phone on, all the emails i have deleted at work re-appear on my phone and again the same thing happens on my Macbook pro. I seem to spend all my time deleting emails 3 times.
Is there something simple in the set up of these that i am missing?

I just bought a new iPhone and accidentally backed it up with my old iPhone backup, I do not want this. I lost everything on my new phone and I need it back. PLEASE HELP! This includes pictures and texts, etc.
So just to be clear, when you say "just bought" how long ago was that? Is it on this new iPhone that you had pictures, texts, etc that you want? Were you backing up to iCloud or onto iTunes?
This may not help for everything but if you go to iCloud.com and log in, are you able to find your pictures there? -
Just downloaded new verion of ITunes, now when I try to open ITunes get This copy is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall ITunes. Running XP. I do not want to lose everything I already have on ITunes.Does anyone know what the solution might be?

Thank you for the response. Typically this error is caused by installing an older verison of iTunes than you had prior. When you installed iTunes did you download the program directly from iTunes.com, or did you use an older copy of the program on your computer? If you used an older version or are unsure, uninstall all the components one more time and download a new copy of iTunes via the link below.

When I open Facebook and a few other webpages the screen size is large and some of the info will not appear. I have tried everything to reset the size and it does not work. I have even zoomed out and the missing info still does not appear. But if I log into IE it is just fine and all the info is there and is useable. I hate IE and do not want to use it so please help me fix this issue with Firefox.
CTRL+0 (<--that is a zero) will reset your zoom level on affected pages. Firefox remembers the zoom level you last used on a page.

When I go into system preferences, then iCloud, then manage, it does not let me view what is there only says: ex: The documents stored inside Pages take up 623.3KB and gives me the option to: Delete Documents and Data. It does not let me see what files are there. I think it is time for me to go back to my apple store and get more acquainted with iCloud and storage and how to manage it. I had some issues with my mac about a month ago after downloading an updated version. The issue was related to syncing, iCloud, iTunes, calendar and storage. I am nervous about loosing more documents, photos, etc..from my Mac. Thank you for the information.

If I understand you correctly, you are asking how to resize your partitions for MacOS and Windows (Boot Camp) you don't want to reboot the computer to do it. If that is correct, then I don't know of any way for you to do what you want. In order to resize the partitions, you will need to reboot the OS that is running from the partitions, preferably exit the OS, resize the partitions, then restart the OS, so it has a clean view of the disk.
