Reboot loop in Vista Ultimate

Hi,
I´ve installed Vista Ultimate on my boot camp partition and when i´ve installed the boot camp drivers, Vista boots up but when i can see the desktop, it restarts and does the same thing over and over again. I´ve tried this so many times and it always end up in an endless booting cycle. Sometimes I can open a program (like Internet Explorer) but within maximum 2-3 minutes, Vista restarts.
I´ve checked my harddrive with Disk utility and DiscWarrior and everything seems fine. I´ve also done a hardware diagnose test in os x.
I have a Macbook Pro 17". 2,33 Ghz. 2 gb RAM.
any help is appreciated!
/Toby

Try going to msconfig during SAFE MODE.
Do you get a blue screen crash?
Disk Warrior won't touch NTFS volumes. Disk Utility will, IF you buy/install Paragon NTFS driver ($40). You may need to run chkdsk instead, or go back to last safe restore point and roll back the updates.
You managed to install all of Vista SP1? BootCamp 2.1 drivers?
What about booting from Vista DVD and see what it can do.

  • Installed iTunes 7.4.2 on Vista Ultimate - No Longer Works!!!

I was prompted today, by the iTunes updater to install the latest version of iTunes (7.4.2) Installation appeared to complete successfully and rebooted the PC accordingly. However, am now getting a Microsoft Windows Error message saying:
    iTunes has stopped working

Check online for a solution and close the program

Well - bit the bullet again and thought with a 7.4.3 version maybe they'd fixed the issue - well was I wrong or what...
Checked whether quicktime works and it's working just fine... But I'm still getting exactly the same error as last time re the incompatibility of iTunes with Vista Ultimate (32bit edition)...
Does anyone at Apple actually look at the issues posted as I know I'm not the only person to have this issue having looked at other posts?!? The is now the 2nd naff version of iTunes, as well as 1 dodgy version of the iPod firmware I've seen since I've had my 5th Gen 60GB iPod...
Love the iPod - don't think much to Apple's testing procedures for Windows software...

  • Windows Vista Ultimate and Oh Crap!

    Hello All,
This post is a bit of a question and a bit of advice. I am a System's Analyst / Network Engineer. I have a lot of experience with computers, Windows, and Mac OS. Eight days ago I started working with a client on a brand new PC with ALL the bells and whistles. The PC is an HP Pavilion running Windows Vista Ultimate, RAID 1 (Mirror), Removable Media Drive, Great Sound via X-Fi, Great Video via Nvidia PCI-X, and SATA (Obviously since it's running a RAID array).
I got everything setup and running great and as the last step installed iTunes and Quicktime. My client has a few thousand songs, a ton of TV shows, and a whole mess of movies ALL purchased thru iTunes store. Nothing is pirated, stolen, or illegal on this computer. Now, here's where it gets good.
I did the import in a few stages to make the data transfer a little faster. I did music, then TV, then movies. I tested a song and it worked great. I went to play a TV show and the computer slowed to a halt. I let it go like this until activity started on the machine again. It took about 5 minutes and then iTunes crashed. A second later the computer blue-screened and rebooted.
As soon as the reboot occured the RAID array came up in a failed state. I had to rebuild the array and get back into Windows. I tried again with the TV show, had the same result, tried again with a movie, and again had the same result. I called HP and they told me to fresh install the OS so I did. Again, same result.
This has been going on now for a few days with several different tests and several array rebuilds and OS installs. I would have had HP replace the computer or the motherboard but NOTHING else on the entire PC was causing this problem and diagnostics showed no hardware issues. There is/was no reason to suspect faulty hardware or software other than iTunes and/or Quicktime.
Today I ran the final tests and a fresh rebuild. I found some documentation stating that iTunes had some compatibility issues with Vista and decided to try some other videos that I could run in Media Center. They worked flawlessly. I'm left thinking that these problems are specifically iTunes / Quicktime and will move forward accordingly. Apple has stated that they are working with Microsoft to develop a new version of iTunes that is fully compatible with Vista and I have chosen to wait until that version comes out before installing it again.
My question is if any of you have experienced issues like this? If you have, do you have any advice or things you did to make it work? Please comment here as I will be watching this post to see your responses.
My advice is to be very cautious when installing iTunes in Vista, especially with this sort of configuration. I've seen iTunes work fine in Vista before but this is the first time I've worked with a configuration like this. Please be aware of the potential problems. As I've stated earlier, everything else is working perfectly.
Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post. Have a great day!
HP PavilionCTO D4790Y   Other OS   Windows Vista Ultimate, 4 gigs of RAM, 256 Meg GeForce 7500LE PCI-X, RAID 1 SATA with 250 gigs

Thank you for the great responses, guys! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get.
Rain-Man, your post is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. This computer is also running WD drives. I had a feeling that WD might have been some of the issue but it only happened on the SATA RAID config. The computer I set up right behind this PC (on another desk) is EXACTLY the same but does not have a RAID 1 setup and runs perfectly with iTunes.
Also, there is a Hauppauge TV tuner running in this PC and, in retrospect, I think may be conflicting with codecs. God forbid you would have multiple codecs installed on one PC....
I'm not going to sit here and bash WD or Hauppauge, but I'm not a big fan of either of these devices. One of the other things that bothers me is that the RAID is controlled by "Intel Matrix" which is the default software RAID controller in this HP product. There isn't any real control in the management console. All you can do is rebuild a failed array or view an existing configuration. That doesn't really say, "AWESOME" to me. Being an HP product I'm assuming this is pretty standard because it was the default software controller installed on this system.
Any way you look at it, I really appreciate the posts here. I agree that there is an issue that Apple needs to address. WD or not, the fact that people are having problems getting iTunes to work in Vista needs to be resolved. We pay for our music and our shows and our movies and deserve to have them working and not getting deleted, corrupted, or damaged when we try to play them or transfer them. I love the fact that Apple is incorporating new technology into their products but we pay for that technology and it should work.
If I hadn't backed up my client's iTunes folder I would have lost everything he paid for. He's a pretty cool guy but how would you feel if you lost a couple grand worth of music, TV, and movies? I would be pretty upset.
In the end, I think RAID or drive configuration on this PC is one of the major issues. It's something to do with the SATA controller and Vista combined with iTunes / Quicktime. I'm not exactly sure how that could be but I believe it's something Apple / Microsoft needs to investigate...
Please keep the posts coming as I will be checking here regularily for updates. Thanks for your input and I hope we're able to resolve this issue soon.

    Hi there,
Specs: as per Qosmio X 300. SSD 110GB, pentium core 4 extreme, 4 Gb RAM, plenty free storage on SSD (29GB), NVidia drivers with primary being GE Force 9800 M GTS, Direct X10.  there is also a note down the bottom saying that if i have linked graphic cards (whihc i do i believe there are three), that i can expect better perfomrance with some software.
Ok I aplogise from the outset, i am a layman and not that techie. K.  So the issue that I upgraded recently (last week) from vista ultimate 64 bit to windows 7 64 bit. ultimate.  For the main, I am reasonably happy with the outcome in most areas - except gaming that is. I have increased speed and agility and the processor is now rated at 7.2. WEI. overall the laptop is rated at 5.8. however, getting back to teh reason for writing, I have nothing negative to say about windows 7 (as compared to its predecessor) apart from wishing to resolve my game crash issue. which usually occurs about 15 mins - 20 mins into a game and comes in the form of a shutdown ? BSOD from whence the laptop reboots when prompted at on/off and wants to know if to start normally or in various safe modes. I have noticed that the laptop does become very hot at the back (around the fans) prior to teh shutdown, and i am wondering if this is an overheating issue, and how to resolve if this is the case. the only other thing i have noticed that seems untoward is that i have apparently lost a wireless jump start driver from the upgrading process which i cannot find anywherre, and may be totally unrelated to this issue anyway.
All i want to do is play the games i could play on windows vista ultimate 64 bit. these include: Sims 3, sims 3 world adventures, sims 3 ambitions, highloft end stuff, and Bioshock. Oddly enough, i have played sid meyers civillisations revolutions IV (the latest one) with no crashes, and i havent tried ANNO 1404, but fear a similar fate may await this game as some of the others.
    Addditional information:
everything is as i described it above, however the screen does not go blue but black, and the laptop shuts itself down,  laptop acts as if hibernating mode? (these are guesses) or some mechanism geared at preventing over heating - the back becomes very hot.  the machine can be rebooted from normal mode but comes up firstly with a screen suggesting that the laptop was incorrectly shutdown, and offers options as to safe mode, normal etc. i have been starting normally with no adverse effects.   This is scenario one.
scenario two ends up similarly at teh reboot stage, but gets there differently. i play the game and the screen freezes, unable to move touchpad curser, unalbe to use ctrl alt del to get up task manager. end up having to crash to reboot.
I am quite frustrated and very reluctant to mess around with things that i dont understand (dont want to make the problem worse!). I am happy to attemtpt to follow your good explicit advice.
the only other negative thing i am expereinceing is screen flicker on internet. I have changed my power mode from high performance to balanced to try to nullify the overheating issue but i now am noticing this screen flicker which is irriating and appears on keystroke, or cursor movement.
Please note well:  I am a layman, not a technician! Please explain in easy to (dummy) terms! Thanks!
    kind regards

  • Boot Camp, Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, 2009 Mac Pro Quad 2.93, ATI 4870 HD

    Hello All,
I’ve run into a problem installing Boot Camp with Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 on my early 2009 Mac Pro Quad 2.93 with Apple’s ATI Radeon 4870 HD (the one with one DVI and one mini-display). I followed the instructions from the Boot Camp Installation and Setup Guide, and everything was going great until I hit page 12 of the Guide (Step 3). The Boot Camp drivers installed without error, and prompted me to reboot. Upon rebooting onto the newly installed Vista x64 partition, the screen went black after the chkdsk screen appeared. I can boot into Vista safe mode, but booting into Vista normally results in the black screen. On a hunch, while in safe mode, I uninstalled the ATI video drivers installed by Boot Camp. I was then able to boot Vista normally, but only with the standard VGA adapter. Then I tried installing the latest 9.4 ATI drivers from the chipset vendor, AMD, http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx. Booting normally after the ATI chipset drivers were installed left me with a mostly black screen, and a few swizzles of horizontal color, but not enough to make out any sort of image. Once again, I was able to boot normally by first booting into safe mode and then uninstalling the ATI driver, leaving me with the standard VGA driver.
The displays I have tried so far are 1) Apple Cinema HD 23”, and 2) Apple Cinema 20”. Also, I have tried all 6 permutations with the ports on the Apple version of the ATI Radeon 4870 HD with both displays (using the mini-display to DVI adapter), 2 permutations with both displays, and 4 permutations with single displays. All permutations result in the same black screen after installing Boot Camp drivers.
Am I missing something? It seems to me that there is a display driver that needs to come from Apple that will work with the Apple version of the ATI Radeon 4870 HD in Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 attached to an Apple display. I’ve installed Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 and many other operating systems in the past 27 years of working with computers, and typically with video cards I’ve had to get the drivers from the vendor that shipped the card, not the chipset vendor. Sure, occasionally the opposite is true, and I don’t mind spending a few days to figure out what works best for me as long as I believe I am making progress.
Has anyone else run into this problem with his or her early 2009 Mac Pro Quad 2.93 with Apple’s ATI Radeon 4870 HD? I’m posting this in the Boot Camp forum as I think this problem is rooted in the Boot Camp drivers, specifically for the Apple ATI Radeon 4870 HD. Please let me know if I should post elsewhere.

You are the second person I think I've seen with trouble using Mac Pro and ATI drivers (other was on Mac Pro forum).
When updating graphics, there are extra steps that insure you get the best working drivers.
I've always found Apple to be behind the curve on Windows support. Drivers that come with a card from the vendor ususally means ATI or Nvidia, and even then, you go to the web and download and install the latest tested / beta / qualified drivers. Some people try a variety of driver versions to find the one that works best.
Apple has not been updating Boot Camp drivers for Late 2008 and on Macs. Boot Camp 2.1 is now over a year old. What is on your OEM Leopard DVD is the only drivers I would use - if at all! try without is what some do, and then see if you can selectively install. Under Windows 7, I don't need or install, and now with the RC/7077 version of 7, Microsoft 'blocks' installing Apple Boot Camp drivers as known to cause problems.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unistall the various Apple services, drivers, startup items that you can live without or until you narrow it down. iTunes 8.1+ in Windows can break and prevent ability to even use optical drives and devices for instance.
Some tips for upgrading drivers, one from eVGA forum but should translate.

  • Camera not working after upgrading to vista ultimate

So I upgraded to vista ultimate and since then the camera hasn't worked. I don't have it turned off, and i went to device setting to see if it was working properly and also tried updating the driver. Everything seems to be in order, the camera just doesn't work. anyone have any ideas?

is it ultimate 64? if you dl the driver from lenovo's website it probably doesn't support 64bit, i had tons of trouble with my camera before too but eventually it kinda fixed itself. I think the device just wasn't being recognized by windows and the driver never completed installation but after a few reboots it gave me a notification saying that it was indeed finished installing and since then it worked great.

  • Vista Ultimate SP1 (retail dvd) will not install on new Mac Pro

I wish to dedicate a new 1TB hard drive in Bay3 on a brand new Mac Pro for Vista Ultimate SP1, preferably 64-bit. I have tried several times to install a retail dvd version of Vista Ultimate with SP1 (both 32- and 64-bit) without success on two different hard drives (first the one in bay 3; then, after lack of success, the one in bay 4). The installation process does not proceed beyond the stage where Vista must format the hard drive. Vista always displays the message that Vista cannot be installed on a disk of the "GPT style." After giving up on the installation, the disk appears to Disk Utility as a "GUID" disk.
I am seeking advice from anyone who might be able to help me proceed. The remainder of this message provides more detail about what I have tried.
Before starting Boot Camp, I formatted the hard drives initially as MS-DOS FAT, and on later attempts, as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Neither matters. After several attempts, I verified the functionality of the drives by partitioning them using Disk Utility and then repartitioning to one partition. Both 1TB drives appear healthy and can be partitioned and re-partitioned.
When Bootcamp Assistant (BC) calls for the Vista disk, the Vista installation proceeds until the stage when Vista calls for me to identify a hard drive partition for installation. After selecting the largest partition on drive 2 (in bay 3; size 931GB) , the BC Installation and Setup Guide instructs me to "format" the partition. When I do so, the following Windows error message appears:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."
Based on some forum comments, I also tried a different procedure at this stage of the Vista installation. Instead of choosing "format," I first chose to "delete" the selected partition. The disk then appears as "unallocated space." I then chose "new" and "apply" in the hope that it would create a correct NTFS partition for Vista. It then appears as Partition 2 of either Disk 2 (or Disk 3, which I tried subsequently). However, the subsequent "format" still yields the same error.
I tried both procedures with Vista 64-bit and with Vista 32-bit. No difference.
    Suggestions most welcome.

When I provided a link to threads about "Install Vista SP1 DVD" I knew and had in mind a couple threads where people have tried. And trying will help understand.
You don't need to format as NTFS on another PC when just installing MacFuse plus 3G driver extensions will let you do so on your Mac Pro. And that is just one option. There are always multiple ways to get to the same place.
Due to EFI changes there is a tool and tips on how to convert your DVD, but I didn't have time to go back and find and pull those together.
Installing SP1 DVD attempt without success:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1501656
    http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/
    MS OSCDIMG.exe
Yes, it’s a fairly long process and requires you to download stuff (and be running Windows in the first place) But, it does work as long as you follow the instructions correctly.
Convert DVD to ISO and prepare for EFI booting on Mac
tried rebooting about 10 times. No luck. Finally I pointed Parallels (free trial available) to my blank bootcamp partition and set parallels to boot from CD before HD. Parallels booted the Vista install CD just fine, and put Vista on my HD. Crashed at the end though and said it couldn't make the boot camp partition bootable so all changes were removed. Rebooted under boot camp and the installer came up fine off the CD.
So if you have this problem, and nobody else can help, and if you can find it, maybe you can download..... Parallels. Feel free to post this on the other threads. Unlike other workarounds I'm guessing this will work for everyone and it only takes a free trial download of parallels to give it a try. Still wish apple would acknowledge the problem and post a fix. Can't be that hard.
I think VMWare Fusion also supports vitualization with the bootcamp partition as the target so that may help you get around this install bug in boot camp(or the mac's firmware) too.
I would have thought that with Intel and Microsoft both saying they would begin to support UEFI with Vista SP1 64-bit, and Apple is part of the EFI Group, that "we're different" was a thing of the past. Instead it is harder.

  • AirPort Disk - Issue with Windows Vista Ultimate

I setup an AirPort Extreme network, with a shared USB Drive and so far I've only found one issue.
When attempting to create new files and renaming them, or rename pre-existing files on the shared USB Drive using Windows Vista Ultimate I get the following Yes/No dialog:
"The Z:\ folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?"
Then there's information about the mapped drive. If I click "Yes" in the dialog, then the dialog goes away for a moment then pops back up. I can't create a new file directly on the shared AirPort Disk, nor can I modify or create and rename new files on the disk without getting stuck in the loop.
I can, however, create a new file locally on the Vista box and copy it up, and I can even create a new directory locally with files and copy them up without issue.
Now, the issue does not happen when I use my MacBook or my XP machine. This issues seems to be a Windows Vista issue only, and I haven't seen anyone else reporting it.
Here's information about the disk share implementation:
    - The disk is password protected (turning on accounts really breaks the ability of Windows Vista to work with the disk)
    - The disk is Mac Formatted with Case Sensitivity, and Journaling
This works like a top for OS X and Windows XP, just not Vista. I'd like to getting working properly for all machines.
If anyone's got some advice on this one, I'd love to hear it.

Here's a little more information regarding the issue:
    - It's an AirPort Extreme Wireless Router with Firmware ver. 7.1
    - The Windows Vista Ultimate PC has the most recent Microsoft patches to-date, and has the most recent Apple Airport Utilities Software to-date.

  • Bootcamp and Vista ultimate 32 bit blue screen

Hello all. I just purchased my Macbook Pro (late 2008) model last night and I also did a memory upgrade from 2Gb of DDR3 to 4Gb of DDR3. And its was working great..
So i've had a macbook before but never a macbook pro. So i ran the BOOTCAMP Assistant and went through the stages of partitioning and inserting my Windows Vista Ultimate Disc. It goes through the install process and once its finished installing, it restarts and I get to where Vista says "Now configuring your system, please wait....." or something of the sort.. Anyway then it flashes a blue screen (blue screen of death) and then it reboots my Macbook.
I'm lost. I removed the partition and tried again with different versions of Vista: HomePremium, Business, and Basic, still nothing. I also tried different size partitions, still nothing. Any help will sure be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I am sure that it could be done. However, the chances of problems are very high. Microsoft recommends at least 40 GB.

  • Vista Ultimate - NOT 64bit? How to make it 64bit

I just ordered a new T500 and it hasn't been shipped yet.  When I placed my order, I saw the Vista Business 64 option, but I also saw the Vista Ultimate with Downgrade to XP option, so I chose the latter, thinking that Ultimate would also be a 64-bit operating system.  After all, selecting the option cost more than the Business 64 version.
In checking the Hardware Maintenance manual, however, it lists the OSs offered on the T500 as including Vista Ultimate in 32bit mode only.
Yikes!  I need a 64bit OS!  Is there anything I can do?  My understanding is that Vista Ultimate, as shipped by Microsoft in a boxed configuration, combes in both 32 and 64 bit editions.  Will Lenovo ship me both versions?  Is there an easy upgrade path?  Or am I better off trying to get my order changed back to a Business 64 version?  Is that even possible?
    Thank you.

who did you contact? I have the exact same problem and have been told I have to return it and order a new one. 15% restocking fee and wait anther week or two. I pulled out the drive that came with it and installed a new 320 GB 7200 WD hard drive.

  • 7.6, 1.1.3, Vista Ultimate - Contacts Not Syncing?

First, thank you to Apple for enabling iTunes and the iPhone under Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Did the installations last night without any problems, and most stuff seems to be working correctly.
But for some reason, Contact information is not syncing. I have "Sync Contacts with Outlook" and "All Contacts" checked. I've even tried the "Replace information on this iPhone" option. Even though the progress bar at the top goes to "Syncing contacts...", the contacts list on my iPhone remains empty.
Calendar sync with Outlook is working fine, it's only Contacts sync that's not working.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

ATTENTION FELLOW IPHONE USERS / APPLE
I was having the EXACT same problem as the person who originally created this post... Downgrading to iTunes 7.4.3.1 absolutely fixed my Outlook > iTunes > iPhone sync issue.
FYI - This issue started right after my users upgraded to iPhone firmware 1.1.3 and iTunes 7.6. There may be some issue with the latest version/update of iTunes.
<Just a CYA, backup all the files/directories that are to be deleted here. -- Use this info. at your own risk.... However, it worked great for me.>
    Here is what I did:
#1) Under Windows Add remove software, completely remove: iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, & Apple Software Update. - DO NOT REMOVE ANY BOOT CAMP SOFTWARE.
#2) Reboot PC (or Mac running Boot Camp - running Windows)
    #3) Under "C:\Documents and Settings\<user account>\Application Data\Apple Computer", remove any reference to iTunes/Quicktime.
    #4) Under "C:\Documents and Settings\<user account>\Local Settings\Apple Computer", remove any reference to iTunes/Quicktime.
    #5) Under "C:\Documents and Settings\<user account>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes ", rename: "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library.old"
    #6) Under "C:\Documents and Settings\<user account>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes ", rename: "iTunes Music Library.xml" to "iTunes Music Library.old"
    #7) Download iTunes 7.4.3.1 from: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes743forwindows.html
    #8) Normally install iTunes 7.4.3.1.
#9) Once installed, Connect iPhone. GO under the "Info" tab under the iPhone device. Make sure that you have the setting to overwrite the Contacts and Calendars on the iPhone, under the advanced settings area. (remember, you will be overwriting any contacts/calendars that are NOT synced with the computer)
When you connect your iPhone you will need to totally re sync your Outlook Contacts and Calendars - FROM Outlook TO iPhone (overwrite). Also, you will need to rebuild/re index your iTunes library music.
This worked fine for me in my particular environment; however, if ANYONE has a quicker/easier way to resolve---possibly without downgrading to iTunes 7.4.3.1, LET ME KNOW.
You might want to do setups 1 - 6, and just try reinstalling the latest iTunes. If this works for someone, please post.
    Thanks
    Will

  • QuickVPN from Vista Ultimate to WRVS440N (vpnserver.conf problem?)

Hi: I just installed a wrvs440n at home. Works great and I can remotely administer it no problem. I'm trying to set it up so I can VPN into my home network when I'm remote with my laptop running Vista Ultimate. I try to connect with the QuickVPN client. The WRVS440N is running latest firmware from linksys website (as of 12/28/07) and I have the latest QuickVPN client installed (1260).
It seems to work but after it goes through to the point of "Veryfying Network" it just hangs for awhile. Then it kicks up a message saying, "The remote gateway is not responding. Do you want to wait?"
The only clue I have is in the status.conf file located in the QuickVPN client program folder. It says, "All 1 wget requests did not return a valid vpnserver.conf".
There are several files in the QuickVPN client folder that get written during an attempted VPN connection. I copied them to the following link along with the LOG file from my WRVS440N router.
    http://webpages.charter.net/rwpatterson357/temp/a/
    What can the problem be?
    best regards,
    russ
p.s.  I tested it with the QuickVPN client from an XP Pro machine running SP2.  Same exact result.
Message Edited by rwpatterson357 on 12-29-2007 01:27 PM

Where do I get different versions of QuickVPN?  I'm running the latest version from Linksys website.
All firewalls are disabled including everything I could think of disableing on the wvrs440n.
After an unsuccesful attempt at connecting i do not have a good network connection.  Even after a reboot I don't.  I have to disable the computers network adapter, reboot, and then re-enable the network adapter.  I don't know what it is doing but Quick VPN seems to torpedo my system.  Same result on both my Vista Ulmitate laptop and XP Pro SP2 laptop.
Is there a better router/VPN solution out there?  I really don't want to mess with this for 3-4 days just hoping to make it work.  I need something that will function and do so reliably and without requiring me to be a computer engineer.

  • Help iPod Classic Reboot Loop!

My iPod classic resently got the corrupted message when I was using Windows Vista, so i restored, and low and behold my iPod ( out of warranty by the way) is now stuck on the infamous reboot loop!
I'm using a macbook pro now, but still nothing
Does anybody know any fixes for this?
    Cheers
    Jack

Alright, so I finally decided to just call Apple and see what was going on. I got talking to someone and explained my problem, about how the iPod wouldn't reformat and such, and he told me that something was wrong with the connections or something inside the iPod. Which in short means my iPod is dead, lol. Since it's only 2 months old though they're going to replace it, so they're sending me a box to ship my iPod back in, then once they recieve my iPod they're just going to send me a brand new one (and yes, a new one, not a refurbished one, I asked) and not even bother trying to just repair my old one, which leads me to believe that he's heard this problem already multiple times....
So basically I should be getting a new iPod in 10 days he said. Now I get to spend my break reimporting all my cd's.... score. This will be my 4th iPod... you'd think I'd have learned by now.. but no... lol.

  • Vista Basic to Vista Ultimate

I recently purchased a t400 preconfigured with Vista Basic.  I already owned a legally purchased vista ultimate upgrade cd.  I stuck the vista DVD in my computer and chose the Upgrade option.
The process seemed to go smoothly up until the very end.  Specifically during the last step when it appeared to be done doing everything the screen turned off and nothing was displayed.  I left it in that state for several hours.  Ultimately i force rebooted the machine and windows vista ultimate rolled itself back.  After the rollback, the OS kept complaining that the S drive was almost full.  I checked it had only about 10 MB left.  Since then I restored the computer back to factory settings using the set of recovery disks I created when I first got the computer.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to succesfully upgrade?  My reasoning for wanting to do an upgrade vs a clean install is that Lenovo did not seem to ship installer software for the other software that came with the computer(e.g. intervideo windvd, roxio creator business edition, etc....).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Although that thread was interesting, it didn't directly solve my problem.   I did find a solution though after a gut feeling and working with Lenovo Tech Support(I had to ask for a manager to get this information)
for anyone else reading this, my succesfull steps are as follows:
    1) Restore Computer to factory settings(if applicable)
    2) Do basic setup of computer
    3) Rename s:\windows to s:\windows.old.  This steps ensures that the windows installer doesn't try to upgrade s:\windows instead of c:\windows
    4) Reboot the computer into the bios.
    5)  Select Config
    6) Change the SATA option to compatibility(this was recommended to me by Lenovo Support.  I am not completely certain this part is needed though)
    7) Change the display adapter to use only the integrated card.  I suspect this is what really solved the blank screen issue.
    8) Boot into vista basic
    9) insert update CD
    10) Run Update
    11) Go through the install process
    12) Run thinkvantage software update
    13) Run vista windows update
    14) Make a backup to save yourself a headache in the future
Edited instructions to provide a bit of clarification.
I hope this helps someone else
