Reboot + lost data - how to recover?

Hi all
I forgot my login password and looked up online a few ways to reset it. I restarted my machine, held down Command + R, followed instructions (from online) and rebooted it.
It then went through the set-up process and I have lost all data completely including my users settings.
Can I find these again or have I accidentally deleted them forever?
Very worried and would appreciate advice!

Reboot - lost data?

Hi all,
MPB Retina - OSX 10.8
I was attemping to use my laptop and my trackpad was not working (I had no idea my mouse was in the next room with a bag on top of it holding the button down).
Having tried everything to fix the trackpad issue I figured just rebooting it would do the trick so I held down the power button until my laptop restarted. When it did restart I lost all my photos/music/programs. I am back to default settings on everything!
Is there anyway to recover my files?

Lost data, can I recover it?

I had some pictures sent to me by email, and I imported them into my Iphoto library. The am only aquainted with the sender, but don't believe he would purposely send malicious data. These two applications have now reset - they are asking me setup questions and my data appears to be gone. A virus scan was done and nothing was found. I have a feeling it's related to my problems. Itunes is also asking me setup questions, although the music is still there. I haven't noticed any other applications being affected. Is there a way to recover my pictures and email data? Should I go ahead and go through the setup questions again or will that cause me to permanently lose data that I might not otherwise have lost? Note: I had a few photos on my desktop that I attempted to import into Iphoto, and was asked if I wanted to import duplicate photos. This gives me hope that they aren't really lost.

This was helpful. You are correct - there is my home folder as well as a shared folder. I do use file vault, and when I clicked on that it opened up a folder that included movies, pictures, music and so on. I clicked on the pictures icon, and there were all my pictures. YAYY!!!! So, my question now is, do I still go through all the setup questions? How can I get my pictures back into the Iphoto folder on my application? I think we're almost there. You're so helpful!

Lost phone - how to recover contacts from Nokia PC...

Regrettably I recently lost my Nokia 6303 along with all my contacts. I did however sync and backup my 6303 with Nokia PC Suite. I have since bought a replacement - a Nokia 5800 - and am trying to import my old contacts (from the lost 6303) to my new replacement (the 5800) - but I can't see how to do this within Nokia PC Suite.

If you'd backup the phone memory as a .nbu file, you can restore it using content copier.
If the content copier fails to restore, you can try to open/extract the content from the .nbu file via Noki which is a Nokia backup file explorer and extractor. For details, please check the Noki data recovery guide.

I recently bought a new iPhone to replace my previously lost one. I don't think I had backed up my apps (I don't plug it into my laptop to charge) because when I did the activation/restore it didn't update the apps.

Pastor lost data help me recover

Running 10.5.8 have code application called Pastor 1.7.4. Ran CleanMyMac and now all my personal data from Pastor is missing and not located on my harddrive where it usually would be. Suggestion on how to reclaim my data?

Are you sure it was not accidentLy deleted from your iPad?
Apps in the recently purchased list remain there whether they are on your IPA or not. What is the icon next to the app in the recently purchased area of the App Store app? If it is a cloud with arrow, then you need to tap that to redownload the app. If it says open, it is on your iPad somewhere.
Are restrictions on in Settings that might cause the app to be hidden?
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Migration Assistant creates a new user with your restored data from your Time Machine backup, so it's normal that you don't see your data.
Open  > Log Out, and log in the new user that Migration Assistant has created. Here are all your transferred data from your Time Machine backup. Then, if you want, open System Preferences > Users & Groups, select the old user and press the - button to delete it

You may be able to some info/application off of your icloud account in the itunes store. To recover apps, enter the app store > purchesed - and click on the apps you want to redownload ect... And contacts should be synced with your icloud account, so should still be there for you.

If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.

ok turn it off manually and turn it back on while holding the apple logo bottor or the function botton this will give you an option to choose if you want to startup with osx ow windows. let me know if this works
