Reboot/reset needed to play music

Sorry, this is piggybacked from another forum. A few of us with 5.5 gen ipods are having an odd problem.
All of us seem to be running latest firmware of 1.2.1.
The full thread is here:
http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=189732
But in a nutshell if I use pause, hold switch and then go back to playing the track I paused sometime later, if I then press play, the track appears to play (play/pause icon (top left) changes to play triangle) but the track never advances and no sound comes out. The ipod still responds to anything (volume, next track etc), but nothing ever plays unless a reset (menu & center button) is done.
5.5 gen, 80 gig with 1.2.1 firmware.
Thanks

I also have the same problem. In fact, I've had it ever since I got my 5th Gen iPod, which was last June. I never made much of it since all it takes is a simple hold of the play button to put it to sleep and then bring it back. But, it is annoying for sure.
I tried restoring and everything else I could think of, but nothing fixed it. Wonder why it does that?

  • What hardware do I need to play music from iPad?

    Hi all!
I've seen this done, but never asked how it's done! This may be a simple question for almost all of you, but I don't even know how to phrase it to look up via a web search!
I just ordered an iPad (4th generation) and one of the things I would like to do is play the music from it remotely. I work at a retreat center and during sessions/prayers we play music. I would like to do this at the podium rather than running back and forth to a dock (for an iPad, if there's such a thing) at the back of the room to push those buttons; we do this currently with our cd player.
So, what kind of hardware would I need to do so? Also, would it be possible to tie in this hardware to our overhead speaker system? What apps on the iPad would control this? Please keep in mind while I am a huge Apple fan and have an iMac & iPod, I am limited in my knowledge (so far) with a iPad. And my boss, who leads these services, is not the most tech savvy person, so it would need to be simple to operate too!
Thanks for any and all advise!!!!

"Rather than testing the limits of Bluetooth, maybe you should consider buying an Apple AirPort Express router and setting up a separate wifi network just for this link. No idea whether the audio output of the Express will match the "Hi-Z" Aux phono inputs electrically, but it seems worth a try if you have an Apple Store (or dealer) in the area. The price is within the range of BT mobile speakers offered through the Apple Store, and I know it can handle the range easily."
Okayyyy... the AirPort Express router sound like a more practical idea. I'll go with that; but I still have the same issue with connection to the amp. And I am not at all well versed in electronics to understand "Hi-Z" matching thingie . In your best guess, can connection be made with AirPort to our amp system via a bare wire connection??
"You used to be able to buy connector-X-to-bare-wire cables (for various values of X) at places like Radio Shack; you may still be able to do so. Failing that, buy a separate X-to-X or X-to-Y cable and cut off one end of that, rather than cutting a cable supplied with a BT (or WiFi) receiver, so you can return the receiver if it doesn't work for you."
Again, a more pratical idea, mark! I will look for such a cable; we have a Radio Shack down the road. To ask a dumb question with the "x-to-x or x-to-y" you mention above. I know one value is for the connector (x or y: type of jack, as like a headphone one or speaker). The other value has no change and would that possibly be the red and white lines commonly found on standard jacked connectors?
Third question: those red and white lines - are they different in the type of wire that is used in it's construction and that's why they are so marked? If I strip for bare wire connection, do I have to keep them marked for what will go where to the amp?
I just want to make the right decisions before any purchasing, mainly to see if it can be done!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • 6234 reboots sometimes when playing music

I recently got a 6324 (the Vodafone branded version) and I really like this phone except it seems to have a problem where it will sometimes reboot/reset itself if you play a music file (I tried with the sample ones that come on the memory card). It seems that it won't reset if you play music soon after you turn it on, but after a day or two of the phone being on, then music is played and part way through
the song it'll just reset the phone.
After it did this 3 times in 4 days I took it back to the Vodafone shop for a replacement. The replacement has exactly the same behaviour which leads me to believe it's some bug in the firmware of the phone. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Are Nokia aware of it? Will there be a firmware fix?
I'm hesitant to return this phone and pick a different brand as I like Nokia phones, and I'm also hesitent to exchange it for a different Nokia model because there are few that seem suited to me.
PS. I tried the firmware version thing but I couldn't get it to work on this phone - #0000# in standby I think. I didn't really know what exactly standby meant, but I tried with the phone off, on but when the screen has timed out and off and with the phone on and front screen visible.

You can check SW version via *#0000#

  • How can I play music on my iPhone through a PA system?

I need to play music for a party through a PA amplifier.  I'm told I can use the music on my iPhone, but can't see how I can connect the two.

I understand that RadioShack sells an adapter to connect an iPhone to a stereo. There is a cord that has the headphone jack on one end and the red / white right / left audio jacks on the other end.

Try plugging it up to your computer and launching iTunes and either resetting it to factory settings or resetting to last sync. Hopefully it just noticing it's plugged up to iTunes will fix it. This happened to my friend once and all she had to do was plug it into her computer and that fixed it.

What should I do? Thanks!

  • My iphone won't charge and won't play music anymore. I have tried reseting it and switching it off. Have tried 3 different chargeres and even a car charger. Does anyone know what could be wrong and how I can fix it?

I have an iPhone 4 not quite 2 years old. 2 nights ago my iPhone was on its charger and it kept vibrating as if it was being disconnected and re-connected from the charger. When I looked at it had an "error" message but now I don't know what that was as it was 3am and I was half asleep. I just diconnected the charger and the battery read fully charged.
The my volume wouldn't go up or down. The box with "ringer" in it came up but no bars at the bottom to show the volume is increasing or decreasing. It would not play music out of the speakers either even though the screen showed it was playing and it would not work in our dock/speaker unless I used bluetooth and even then, if we touched the volume button on the dock it would switch off.
I tried a "hard" reset 3 times and tried switching it off and on 3 times with no success.
I tried 3 different chargers including a car charger, plus the speaker dock with no success.
It is now out of battery and I cannot charge it.
The iPhone also would not back anything up prior to the battery going flat.
I just need to know if it is fixable or do I need to start looking for a new phone?

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

  • No menus, blank screen but plays music and resets ok

I have had my iPod nano 4G for two days. I have reset it about ten times, reinstalled iTunes three times and have reset the Nano using iTunes as well, I've lost count how many times.
The problem is that there are no menus displayed. The screen is lit up in blank white, but nothing else. Strangely enough I can play music and skip back and forth with tracks, by guessing the right buttons to use.
iTunes can see it all right and resets it, synchronises ok and so on. Before I connected it to iTunes, it did display all the menus. Then iTunes wanted to upgrade the software to 1.1.1. Since then ... all blank.
iTunes has also asked me to reinstall iTunes because it could not communicate with the Nano. This was on the second use ever, after I had just downloaded the latest version it from the Apple website. I don't like brand new software telling me it has to be reinstalled, the second time I use it.
Anyway at this stage I have reset the iPod manually many times (no Apple logo - screen comes up white but nothing else), uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes many times, reset the iPod from iTunes (always using the latest updates from Apple), I have deleted the firmware update in the PC folders to force a fresh download ... when I connect now, I get a message "The ipod "D's IPOD" cannot be updated An unkown error has occurred (-124). Unkown error? You don't say. I must have spent about two days on this **** thing, I'm sending it back for a replacement, but I have to wait a while to arrange this.
If anyone has any idea of what to do (excluding solutions involving hammers or bricks) then please do let me know, thanks in advance.
P.S: The PC has a number of other USB appliances (including another non-ipod MP3 player and a Palm pilot) and they all work fine so the hardware on the PC seems fine.

If none of the 5 R's of troubleshooting are able to solve the problem, the issue is hardware related, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced or replaced.  The LCD screen may have simply burned out or wore out over time.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/.
It wouldn't also hurt to the let iPod's battery full drain. Then charge the iPod back up and go through the 5 R's again.

  • My iPhone 4 will no longer play music in my car. I need help.

For over two years, my iphone has played music when hooked up to the ipod connector in hmy car. When I plug it in, the "charging not supported..." box still pops up but no music plays. My sister's phone will play in my car, so it is not a problem with anything in my car. And when I tried to play my phone in her car, it would charge, but again, no music would play. The problem has to be with my phone, but I haven't done anything different with it. Any ideas or suggestions to fix this?

Standard steps from the manual are to restart, reset, restore.  which of those have you done?

  • I have moved all of my music from my laptop to a portable hard drive...need help :( cant play music

    Hi all,
I moved all my music from my laptop to a portable hard drive, my hope was that i could just plug and play into my mabook air not the case...
I was wondering if anyone could help with the following, in a perfect world i would love to be able to keep the music on my drive (there is about 500 gb worth) and then when i want to play through mac to apple tv be able to just plug into mac and then be good to go, or if poss for itunes to be able to recognise the music on my portable drive...and for me then to play through itunes without adding it (as there wouldnt be enough space)...and to also have the capability to plug the drive into my windows comp and be able to also still play from there.
I dont know if any of this is poss...it all seems really complicated to me...and i am new to mac.
If anyone thinks they could help please get in touch!
my main goal is to be able to play my music through apple tv to the surround system in the house, and to be able to play music through my mac if poss, doesnt have to be itunes so long as i can air play or even better select through apple tv.
thanks so much in advance to anyone who can help me out
p.s. i tried this...didnt work, unless i am doing it wrong

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Do not confuse (as you did) moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..
If your iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost.
