There appears to be a bug in the Thunderbolt firmware. Is it happening every time? Are you also using wifi and/or a thunderbolt ethernet adapter? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5531482

External Monitor Not Working after Mavericks upgrade
I just upgraded to Mavericks and my USB external monitor & VGA external monitor is not being recognized.
I just upgraded to Mac 10.9.
My Sony KLV-32S300A LCD HDMI TV is no longer recognized as external display (neither in mirror nor in 2nd window mode).
External display used to work flawlessly under Mac 10.8.5.
My hardware: MacBook 13-inch, aluminum, late 2008.
So far I have found no workarounds. -
Help, when plugging into a monitor my MacPro only displays desktop 2. How do I change this?
Try a NVRAM / PRAM reset.
Directions are here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
By the way, when you post a question please include specifics about the version of Mac OS X you are running and the Mac model.
It is a Macbook Pro, right, not a MacPro? -
My macbook retina (15" mid 2012) crash when plug Lacie Thunderbolt external HDD
Hello,
I got this problem several times, and now I decided to post here to find some help. I got a macbook retina 15" mid 2012 and a Lacie 1T Rugged Thunderbolt. They works together perfectly at the first few months. And the crash started to happen about 4-5 months ago. It sometime crash my mac when I plug the Lacie in, sometime not. I tried to run the Lacie Firmware Updater but it said "No Lacie devices found".
Anyone please help.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Macbook Pro loses bluetooth functionality when plugged into thunderbolt display
This a fix that I think should be out there, because I searched and searched for months, then just found the solution myself. Want to make sure someone else doesn't have to deal with what I've been going through...
I've been dealing with bluetooth mouse, keyboard and trackpad dropping off unexpectedly on my MacbookPro Retina 15" ever since Yosemite. No bluetooth at all, even though it's showing that it is functioning normally. Usually this happened whenever I plugged in my thunderbolt monitor. It's maddening when you pop out for a meeting with your laptop, then get back to your desk ready to jam - then you're just frustrated clicking hopelessly on your mouse. Sometimes bluetooth comes backs, sometimes it doesn't until I restart. Turning bluetooth on or off had no affect. I came up with the weirdest fix yesterday, and so far it is working...
1) turn your wifi off
2) start clicking/moving your mouse, trackpad or keyboard until it gives you the "connected" notification on screen
3) turn your wifi back on
Weird! I made the connection when seeing people griping about wifi being hampered when bluetooth was on in Yosemite, and thought it might go both ways. Hope this helps.WIFI AND BLUETOOTH FINALLY SOLVED, NO REALLY - YOSEMITE 10.10

Toshiba backup drive not recognized when plugged into thunderbolt display.
My Toshiba backup drive does not mount to my MacBookPro when plugged into my Thunderbolt Display. It works beautifully when plugged directly into my MBP, and other USB devices work beautifully when plugged into the same USB ports on the Thunderbolt Display.
All my equipment is pretty new. The Toshiba is currenlty configured to be my Time Machine back up drive.
Laptop: 15" Macbook Pro, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 100 MHz DDR3, Mac OS 10.8.5
Backup Drive: Toshiba 500GB Canvio® Basics USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive
Apple Thunderbolt Display: 2560 x 1440, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics
When I plug the backup drive into the TB Display, usually nothing happens. The blue light on the drive doesn't come on, and it doesn't mount to the desktop. If I wiggle the USB back there, sometimes the blue light will come on, and sometimes it will mount for a minute then go away. This is true for all 3 USB ports. I have not had problems with any other USB devices, but the only other ones I've plugged into the Thunderbolt are my keyboard, bluetooth headset charger, and other items that probably use less power than the backup drive. But the cable works when plugged into my laptop. Plus, the cable connection is pretty specific to the device; I'm not sure if you can buy another one seperately.

Reboot when plugged in & lid closed?
my Mid 2012 rMBP reboots continuously when plugged in and the lid is closed - Any idea on how to fix?
ricks99,
When your Droid 1 started rebooting while charging, did you happen to add any new apps to the phone.
First, place your Droid 1 in safe mode. Once it's in safe mode, plug it in again, is it still automatically rebooting again?
If it doesn't reboot that's a good thing because we know that an app isn't causing it to reboot.
If it does reboot while in safe mode, then there is an app on the phone that is causing it to behave in this manner.
If it reboots while in safe mode, you should remove the most recently added apps to see if that makes a difference.
As a last resort you can do the hard reset. Performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications..
You can save your contacts to the SD card by following these steps.
Please do follow up to let us know if your Droid works in safe mode or not before you end up doing the hard reset.

External monitor not working after ML upgrade
I have a late 2008 Unibody Macbook and normally use it in clamshell mode with a Samsung 2043NW monitor if I'm in the office. Previously working fine in 10.5.8 through mini display port adapter. Upgraded via fresh install of 10.6.8 to ML, and the monitor flickered on occasionally but otherwise would not work - when it did display it showed the same resolution as the macbook screen i.e. 1280 X 800 instead of 1680 X 1050.
There's a thread here related to this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2387462?start=15&tstart=0 but this software was not the answer. I can now view the screen, but it is still being sent a resolution of 1280X800, rather than 1680X1050 (i.e. a fuzzy mess). It also will not work in clamshell mode at all, and just goes to sleep when the case is shut.
Anyone have a solution for this, or have I been 'obsolesced'? Does anyone have a unibody Macbook that DOES work with an external monitor?OK, now here's an interesting thing - the macbook has begun to work in clamshell mode. This is REALLY weird. Tried again this morning in the hope of getting back the monitor control icon in the toolbar and it booted straight into clamshell mode with the lid shut.
When I first had this running 10.5 it would only work in clamshell mode if you pressed the power button and immediately closed the lid before the screen lit up grey. More recently it has been perfectly happy to enter clamshell mode after a period of use normally, just plugging in the monitor and shutting the lid. It would be nice if this behaviour were to start again soon. -
Massive Battery Drain After Mavericks Upgrade on 11" 2013 MacBook Air?
I got my Air about month before Mavericks came out and the battery life was amazing on it. I was easily getting 14-10 hours of life using Chrome and Air Mail App, along with Power Point and MS Word. After the upgrade to Mavericks, it was slow but I started to notice that my battery life during classes was draining so much faster than before and I had not added anything 3rd party software, just the upgrade. I am now down to about 3.5 - 4.5 hours of battery life doing about the same things as before the upgrade. I did a couple of apps and I added (Sims 3 game). However, I have yet to touch it because of the diminished battery life.
I have included a copy of my Etrecheck, can somone take a look and let me know if you think I need to clean something off?
I did do the SMC reset and that seemed to to give a little juice (like putting new tire on your car but still not where it was before the Mavericks upgrade) as I am up to about 6 hours of battery life after the SMC reset.
Please let me know what other information you might need from me that would help and thank you so much!!

Not sure why but I had a hard time finding all of the related files to get rid of Origin. But I think I finally got them. I just uninstalled Flash and Chrome. I don't like Safari but all well. I suppose I can deal with it it until Apple fixes this battery issue and then maybe I can go back to Chrome. Safari isn't too happy with certain websites, under the Preferences/Security there is an error message that reads "Google Safe Browsing Service Is Not Available. Has not been updated in 8 days."
Haven't noticed a change in battery since doing all of this so let me know if it will take a couple of days to reset. Or if you see anything else that I can do to help. Thank!

Can't sign in on external monitor with MBP after Yosemite upgrade
After Yosemite upgrade, when I turn on my MBP, I can't sign in using external monitor with MBP, always could before Yosemite. Blurred image of my wallpaper shows on monitor, can move arrow on external screen but sign-in only shows up on my computer screen, with no arrow. Since there is no arrow on the computer screen, and no sign in box on the external monitor, I have to unplug the external video to sign in on the computer, then plug in the monitor again. Any ideas?
NOWEK,
Thanks for this suggestion, but so far no joy. I have zapped the PRAM, jammed the Frabitz and smashed the Gafrogsnicker, all to no avail. When the MBP restarts I get a blurred image (extreme "vibrancy") on the external monitor, but no images of the login accounts to choose from or the other options. However, on the MBP screen I get all that. The keyboard and mouse respond, but just doesn't display on the external monitor. This is of interest to me because I have the MBP down in a credenza with other related gear and the external monitor and keyboard up on my desk. It's true I don't have to do this often, but still, it just started this aggravation with Yosemite. Thanks for trying to help. -
MacBook Pro fans running when plugged into Thunderbolt displays
I just got a sweet setup at work - a new MacBook Pro and 2 Thunderbolt displays. However, immediately upon setup I noticed the fans on the Mac Book operating constantly, even when I was just surfing the net or working in one Microsoft program.
I just spent a few hours working on the laptop - not plugged in to the Thunderbolt displays - and the fans did not go on at all. Within minutes of plugging it in to the displays, the fans started up again. So I think it may have something to do with the Mac Book being plugged into the Thunderbolt displays.
Can anyone help?
Mac Book Pro, Version 10.7.2, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3Hello,
I'm so sorry for the slow response! I ended up calling Apple because I was still mystified and no one was responding here.
The nice gentleman at Apple told me the following. The MacBook Pro can handle two Thunderbolts max. If the CPU is constantly running hot, then it could be an issue in the long term.
We went through the software update process for the Thunderbolt displays again, and it turns out that the software was NOT updating!!! It's not the usual "click install and the computer takes care of it all" sort of update - unfortunately I don't remember exactly what we did, but you have to go to the Applications folder and actually install something.
You'll know if you haven't followed these steps if, when you go back to check for updates, the Thunderbolt display update keeps popping up.
Since installing that firmware update, I have been using my MacBook with only one display. In the next week, I will probably plug it in to the second display and see if there are fan issues. If so, then Apple told me to call them back and see about further troubleshooting.
I hope this was somewhat helpful. If you are still unclear, I'd say call Apple! They were really helpful! Good luck! -

Dead Battery will not reboot when plugged in
Anyone else had this problem?
Phone dies when battery reaches about 5% (not 1%). Plug in the charger but it takes 10 minutes before you can switch phone back on again?
Maybe this is covered elsewhere but with all the dodgey battery posts about it is hard to find things.
Thanks.
WP is dead
Solved!
Go to Solution. If it was only ten minutes I'd be happy, but I plugged mine in and it didn't boot at all, in fact 12 hours of charge later it was still sitting on the battery icon with red bar and had not charged a bit!
It appears that when it's run out completely, (which depends entirely on what the phone thinks is completely I turned mine off at 7% remaining and left it off until I got home to charge it) the Lumia doesn't want to charge or power up.
It's almost like it's stuck in a cycle of low charge, the image of the battery low icon uses charge and the phone won't start until it gets charge so it just sits there in a perpetual state of not charging. Run it dead and it will fail to charge or start until you randomly fiddle with the buttons, connect and reconnect the charger, in fact it took connecting it to my laptop this time to start it.
The Lumia it seems has high battery usage probably due to 3G driver issues as it overheats in your pocket if not in range of a strong signal probably as it just remains on and searching. It hates being run out, which seeing as it chooses what percentage to run out at is almost impossible to avoid and it charges irregularly sometimes the charge lasts 18 hours sometimes it lasts 6. As someone who has had Nokia's since the very first mobile phones came out this phone deeply dissapoints and has brought me to the stage of finally saying brand loyalty is no longer enough I am considering looking at alternatives once my contract on this current underperformer expires.
I told myself after a few Nokia problems with other models (which I lived with because I love Nokias) that this was Nokia's last chance for me and at first I actually thought they had pulled the stops out and achieved something. A short period of ownership has sadly proven this not to be true.
If a random charging battery with no longevity is the best we can hope for Nokia is about to lose market share, sad really -
Phone Keeps Rebooting When Trying to D/L New Apps After An App World Update
Hi. I just got a Blackberry Curve 9350 from Sprint over the weekend. I downloaded some apps and everything went fine. Today, I had a notification to ugrade App World, well the ugrade was successful, and I clicked yes to allow the device to restart as soon as the ugrade was finished. Now, whenever I try to download a new application, the phone seemingly downloads it but then the screen turns black when the download is finished and will reboot itself. The new apps aren't found on the device afterwards. What is happening, how can I fix it and download the apps i want?
I suggest that you clear the AppWorld application cache:
1. Open App World
2. Go to My World
3. Follow one (and only one!) of these steps:
3a. For keyboard-based BB's -- Hold down the ALT key and then press, in sequence R, then S, then T
3b. For Touch Screen Only BBs -- Hold the num-lock (!?123) button so it locks and then press, in sequence 3, then 4, then (
3c. For newer (e,g., OS6 and 7) BB's, see this KB:
KB24714 How to clear the BlackBerry App World cache
4. AppWorld should close.
5. If your BB locks after issuing the cache clear, perform a battery pull reboot
6. Return to AppWorld (it may be sluggish while it re-synchronizes).
If step (4) does not happen as listed, then the clear cache did not work.
Failing that, you can try this sequence:
1) Remove AppWorld from your BB (Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Applications) -- if it requests that you reboot the BB, do so.
2) Do a Batt-Pull reboot as described above.
3) Install (on your BB) a fresh copy of AppWorld
http://blackberry.com/appworld/download
Again, if it requests to reboot, do so.
4) Do another Batt-Pull reboot
5) See if it now works.
Hopefully it'll work for you! Good luck and let us know!
