Rebooted computer and i cant manually manage music!

ok, so i needed to reboot my computer the other day and didnt do a back up because i though that the virus would just end up back on my computer..lol so anyway! i re-downloaded itunes and authorised my computer and it says "computer 1 of 5 has been authorised" but all my music has been erased from my computer! now, i am aware that music from an iphone can not be "downloaded" onto a new computer, however it is the same one! i dont even want to download it back onto the computer! i just want to be able to click the little "manually manage music" box without it saying "all music must be erased" please help me...
thank you for your time

Sorry. Cannot be done.
When you reformatted your computer, your itunes library became a new library. You cannot sync or manually manage music without losing it.
You should ALWAYS, aways have a backup copy. Always.
You can transfer itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer pUrchases

Bought a new macbook and want to manually manage music onto my iphone 4s (as it is already full of music from old windows laptop) but when i click 'manually manage' and then 'apply' i get the message saying it will erase everything already on there. Need help please!

Before you sync your iPhone make sure that all the music that was synced to your phonereviously has been copied to your iTunes on the new MacBook Pro. Then when you connect your phone you will be able to either sync all music or select only those playlists that you want on the phone.

  • How can I back up and restore my manually managed music from an old iphone to a new one?

At present, when I go to restore from a previous back up, my music is never transferred to the new device. I assume this is because I have the manually manage music option selected.
Is there a way to back up and add the same music and playlists etc from old iPhone to new iPhone without selecting the box that transfers everything from itunes?
As I have far more music than my iphone could ever take and I only want a selection. So if there is no way of doing this then I have to do it manually everytime? A very long winded task to go through entire itunes library picking it all out again!?!
    Any help would be appriciated!?

    Thanks very much!
Although I had to add everything again to the playlist, at least I can just copy it over in future!

  • Bought a new macbook pro, synced phone with the new computer and now cant get transferred music onto my phone

I recently bought a new macbook pro to replace my 2007 macbook.  I transferred my music from the old macbook to the new macbook pro.  Today i updated my iphone4 to ios5 (on the new macbook pro), and in doing so, deleted my library off of my phone.  The problem is, when I try to put the music i previously transferred onto the new computer, to my iphone, it wont let me transfer anything.  Any ideas why this might be happening?

The standard policy is 14 days return no questions asked.
The Original Poster got someone on the phone who knew how to "play" the system to get around that and squirt out a gift card "for customer satisfaction". The person you talked to was less familiar with how to play the system, so simply restated the standard company policy.
If you really did buy it 14 days ago today, take it all back to the store and politely insist that you get the gift card you feel are entitled to. Exactly how they process that transaction, and whether you leave with the same computer you brought in, is their problem.

  • Cant manually manage music on iphone 3gs

Itunes will no longer let me drag and drop songs on to my iphone.
I've tried everything. Restored my iphone, and reinstalled itunes.
The only way i can put music on my iphone is with the autofill option.
I only sync my iphone on one computer, but i always charge it with my laptop.

First i would see if you have an update for iTunes that could be causing the problem but if that doesnt work i would try reinstalling iTunes using the link provided.

  • Cannot manually manage music and videos without erasing and syncing first

I have an iPhone 3G bought new from the Apple store using 2.1. Using iTunes 8.0 and checking the "Manually manage music and video" checkbox, iTunes prompts me to "Erase and Sync", no other option is available to me. It was the same when using version 7.7 as well.
I'm not syncing to another computer, it's the same MacBook I've had for almost a year. How do I get the Library Persistent ID in iTunes to match the iPhone. I have the ID from the iTunes Music Library.xml file. I just need to know where the matching file for the iPhone is so I can make them match.
The ID doesn't match because I had to rebuild my drive a month ago and my question to Apple (actually Steve) is why can't I sync the other way from the phone to the computer.
Why does my library on the phone have to be wiped out. Who had the warped thought to come up with this genius idea.

I cannot express how disappointing this was for me to find out.
I want my music to be mobile, I don't want to have to copy it to every computer I want to listen to it on. I want to listen to it from the device, and be able to buy a new album at work or at home. This is a major disappointment for me, as every other device I have owned including my iPod Touch had this capability. I could authorize 5 machines and manually sync, and the music on that device could be played and managed on those authorized machines. For example, my wife has her own music collection, and I have mine, but we have a media center connected to our flat-screen in the living room, that we use for playing music when we are entertaining guests, and with our old iPods and iPod Touch devices, we could unplug one of our devices and plug the other persons in and listen to music from both our libraries without copying the music to that computer, as long as we authorized that machine for the both of us. Now with our iPhones there is no way to keep our seperate librarys and be able to play music on multiple computers in our house and at work, which we have always been able to do until our iPhones. The whole point of the iPhone for me was to be able to combine two devices and now because of the lack of this feature I still have to keep all our iPods around too... Dumb. I almost took our phones back because of this, and if apple doesn't fix it, I probably won't buy another. They should have at least mentioned this little fact before selling the devices to us. I know it's a different device, but it's similar enough that you expect it to work the same as the iPod and iPod Touch. It's not like I am wanting to be able to copy music from the device to multiple machines, it's exactly the opposite... I just want to be able to copy music to the device and listen to it at home and at work... why all apples other devices do this, and the iPhone doesn't is completely perplexing to me, and a serious oversight on there part. This pill would not be so hard to swallow if I had been warned about this prior to dropping almost a grand for iPhones for myself and my wife, expecting what I saw as a more advanced device to work at least as good as the other similar devices I own did.

  • Manually manage music with new iPhone and new MacBook?

I have a new iPhone 6 that auto syncs with an old MBP iTunes library. I just got a new MBA and want to manually manage music between my new iPhone and my new computer. I don't want to transfer all of my music files onto my new MBA in efforts to save space.
I just want to keep all the music files that are currently on my phone, and have the ability to add more files as needed from my NEW MacBook.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi ksatia,
If you'd like to manually manage your content, which would allow you to sync content with multiple computers, then please take a look at the information in the article linked to below.

  • So,Is it called "manually manage music"?

I use my itunes and i tick "manually manage music''  in the index of my iphone, and it works fine,I could drag the music I want.

When i try to tick it on that computer,it told me the iphone is synced in another computer,I have to erase all my music to contiune.
So,is it normal when i do like this?Or what shuold i do?

wym572,you can only sync your iphone with 1 pc.if you erase all your songs your iphone will be synced with this pc so when you plugged in with the 1st pc you cant add songs on it. so dont click it,copy songs from the 2nd pc on a usb and then add it to the library of the 1st pc and then sync it on iphone

  • Manually manage music on two computers with iPhone 4s

For the past few months I have had not issues manually managing my ipod touch on two computers. This is a necessesity as I own a mac laptop but like to listen to audiobooks from my local library which will only download to a PC. With my iPod touch all I had to do was make sure that the manually manage music was turned on and I could put the music from my computer on the device than go and use my friend's pc to put on the audiobooks (WMA Overdrive format). Since getting the iPhone 4S it has been a nightmare to get the same result. I even went so far as to plug it into each computer completely when nothing was on the iphone and turn on manually manage music in each, than put all my music from the mac on it. Only to find that when I opened up itunes in the PC manually manage music was unchecked again. The only way to turn it back on is to sync and erase all my music, thus forcing me to carry around both an ipod and an Iphone, which is more than a little annoying.
    Please help!

Unlike the iPods, including the iPod Touch, iPhones will synch with ONLY ONE iTunes library at a time.  You will NOT be able to manually manage music from 2 computers with your iPhone.

  • Manually manage music on 2 different computers

I have different music libraries on my home iMac and work Mac Pro.  Before, when I have the "manually manage music" check off, I am able to dump music from my home computer... and then when I get to work, I am able to delete music and dump music from my work computer to my iPhone.
But it seems that ever since I updated itunes to 10.6, it wont let me dump music from my home and work computer.  When I'm at work, and check off the "manually manage music", it erases my library on the iPhone.  So I dumped stuff from my work comp to the iPhone.  But then when I get home, and check off "manually manage music", itunes erases my work music.  I'm not able to just add on music, unlike before where I could do that.
    Whats up with that?

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools, e.g. Carbon Copy Cloner. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools, e.g. MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • I want to use my IPOD Classic 160gb for notepad entries in addition to the music and books I listen to. It is set to "Open ITunes when connected to computer" and "manually manage music and videos". How can I do that without losing some of the features

I want to use my IPOD Classic 160gb for notepad entries in addition to the music and books I listen to. It is set to "Open ITunes when connected to computer" and "manually manage music and videos".  How can I do that without losing some of the features of those two?   I just want to add a feature.  Thanks

Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.

  • Unable to manually manage music and videos on iPhone 4 without erase and sync, same computer!

Ok, so I know you all have heard this before but I do believe my case is rather unique, and quite frustrating.
I purchased an iPhone 4 and synced it to the same computer I am using now - created the playlist and used it to sync with phone. Worked great for awhile; but one day I contracted some nasty malware and had to wipe my computer and reinstall my OS (Windows 7). Albeit my music library was on my external HDD which survived the onslaught. I obviously had to reinstall iTunes afterwards. The playlist was gone on reinstall.
Afterwards I still didn't see an issue with my iPhone and iTunes: When I plug it in it syncs, everything seems to be working accordingly.
But I recently transferred some new music from a CD to my iTunes and wanted to throw those songs on my iPhone, the drag and drop method I was so very used to did not work and I noticed that "manually manage music and videos" was uncheck under my devices summary.
When I attempt to check this option in iTunes it gives me a popup notification telling me I need to erase and sync in order to use this option because my 'iPhone is synced with another library". Again, I DID have to reinstall iTunes after reinstalling my OS.
I have tried all the tricks that google could supply me with with no avail; authorizing, stopping the sync from automatically starting.... yada yada - none of these cookie cutter methods have worked for me.
    Here's a too long didn't read:
    >iPhone 4 was working fine - used playlist to sync with.
    >Had to reinstall OS (Windows 7) Playlist gone.
    >Reinstall iTunes.
    >iPhone still syncs with library, no error messages on connect.
    >Unable to manually manage music and videos without erase and sync.
    >None of the usual methods work.

Hmm, I will say after posting this and looking at the related threads it seems I can only either use manually manage or sync.
I was using sync before but since the playlist disappeared I was syncing with I simply want to add music to my phone without deleting everything. Is this possible?
If I use "manually manage music and videos" will it delete everything or just the music and videos? It doesn't specify...
Could I just create a new playlist and sync it with that? If so how?
The bottom line is it isn't that big of a deal if I need to simply rebuild my iPhone music library but losing my configuration, contacts etc is not an option. Optimally I would just like to be able to add my new music to my iPhone without having to rebuild my library.
