Rebooting SAP to clean up memory

Hi!
Does anyone have any recommendations for how often I should reboot the SAP system to clean up the memory and then performance?
I have a SAP 640 on Linux.
Regards
Kjell Aarhus

Hi Kjell
<b>Does anyone have any recommendations for how often I should reboot the SAP system to clean up the memory and then performance?</b>
In general you don't need a regular reboot.
As a lot of used memory is some sort of cache, a cleaning has a negative impact on performance. There is one exception, if you have processes leaking memory, you could restart these as a workaround.
Nevertheless every system needs a reboot once in a while (especially after major changes), but that is to make sure, they still boot properly.

  • How Can i clean my memory and make my imac more faster ?

    I am new user in mac i have imac 4 g ram  and need a way to clean the memory and make my imac more faster ...

    You can't "clean" RAM. If the "storage" space on your hard drive isn't enough then put in a larger hard drive or delete any of your data you no longer need or can store on an external drive. Beyond this I cannot say because you have not provided enough information such as the amount of installed RAM, Capacity of your hard drive and the amount of available space on the hard drive, the specific iMac model you have.
    You can try reinstalling Lion:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
    However, if your computer doesn't have enough RAM or your hard drive is full, then reinstalling won't help.

  • How Can I Clean Memory, Cache...And Boost Memory On Playbook (like clean & boost memory on Blackberry phone)?

    Dear bros, I have a question which I concern about: How Can I Clean Memory, Cache...And Boost Memory On Playbook (like clean & boost memory on Blackberry phone)? I want to to this because I want my playbook run smoothly.
    Thanks all.

    The PlayBook manages memory through the OS, there's no 'memory cleaner' like on the BlackBerry phones.
    In the browser, there are settings to clear cache, cookies and history which do improve the browser performance.
    You may want to try and change the PlayBook multitasking mode. Go into Settings - General and change 'Application Behaviour'. Showcase is full multitasking (slower), Paused pauses all programs when minimised and makes the PlayBook save battery and run a little faster.
    Hope that helps.

  • Cleaning oracle memory

    Hi,
    I am doing analysis of query running with union all and without union all i.e union.
    So i want clean the memory after the first run so that the execution plan and result will be in oracle memory.
    Command for clearing the memory and runing to see the execution time

    I agree with Toon.
    Why do you want to "clear the memory"? That is not needed. Measure the workload of each method and use that to determine which has the lowest workload. Messing with memory and measuring elapsed time are flawed.
    You can clear Oracle's buffer cache in order to make both queries use physical I/O.. but what about the file system cache? The data can be cached there.. Therefore one query can be lucky and its Oracle physical I/O is in fact logical I/O from the file system cache, whereas the other query's physical I/Os as seen by Oracle are indeed physical.
    Measurement and benchmarking using elapsed time is dangerous.. as it is a complex issue that needs one to understand all aspects and moving parts involved. You cannot merely tinker with Oracle's "memory" and expect that to create a level playing field for comparing and benchmarking queries.

  • Rebooting from a clean disk

    I wnated to do a complete disk clean as I'm giving the computer to a grandchild. I used disk utility and did a 7 wipe. There still remained the edrive. I tried to get rid of that and now I can't boot even from an OS 9 CD.I'm at a loss what to do next. any ideas welcome. I do get the apple logo on start but after a minute or so it shuts off and reboots, goes through the start/stop cycle until I unplug.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Was the eDrive created by Tech Tool Pro? In that case you have to boot from the TTP disk and use it to delete that partition.
    You should be able to boot from that disk since it includes an OS.

    Hello Manoj,
    I think if there would be some competition about amount of questions asked per hour you would win with huge lead.
    I think you are learning SAP HANA from completely wrong end - you are probably expert in Vertico and you are trying to find matching elements to understand SAP HANA (I tried same approach when I knew Oracle and was learning DB2.)
    Unfortunately such approach will not work because SAP HANA is different technology. You are asking in-depth questions without understanding basic concepts of SAP HANA database.
    For example following question: "In what level Authorization manager will work ?" - what answer do you expect? Such question might be very logical in Vertico world but has no meaning in HANA world...
    I know you did not want to hear this - but I would suggest to do exactly what you wanted to avoid - to start from beginning and go through all SAP guides.
    Shortcut might not always be the best way in long term strategy.

  • SAP is taking less memory after issue?

    Hi,
    We had an issue with our servers, but manage to recover everything without restoring a single backup. Everything works fine now.........
    But there is one single thing that bothers me..........
    We run SAP on server with 16GB RAM
    Now in OS06 I get this :
    Memory
    Physical mem avail Kb 16,777,172 Physical mem free Kb 15,077,720
    Before that SAP was taking at least 8GB RAM fast, now it takes hardly more than 2GB??
    What is going on???
    Special Thanks in advance
    Release: SAP 4.6B
    DataBase: IBM DB2 v7.2
    OS: IBM AIX 4.3.3
    Hardware: IBM RS/6000 - S70, H70, F50

    Hi,
    SAP note 189072 talking about incorrect value at ST06/OS06.
    Have  alook.
    Try also to check and compare from your OS level.
    Maybe collecting of OS Memory info is not correct ?
    Maybe update SAPOSCOL version will make a different ? (SAP Note 19227)
    cheers,

  • Cleaning Imac memory and set up

    I want to give my imac g4 flat screen to my son. How can I reset it/ clean it back down to put him as admin and basically start again?

    No not really. The version on the disk is the version that is installed.
    To avoid re-downloading updates in the future rather than using Apple's Software Update you can download the 10.2.8, 10.3.9 or 10.4.8 'combo' update this will take you from 10.2, 10.3 or 10.4 up to the latest version. You can burn this combo update to CD for re-application later without the need to download. Downloading the Combo will also allow you to update numerous Macs with a single download. The transition to Intel does complicate this somewhat as the Intel and PPC combos are different.
    The retail version of Tiger I bought was 10.4.3; you may find yours is an older or newer version. Either way you have a 149Mb download to do.

  • How to free up or clean the memory in a WebForm?

    Hi everybody!
    I need you help. I'm working with web forms with data base connections. In the first moment, I can see the memory  state by Task Manager and the memory is loaded in 1.50 GB. After of run the project, the application start to eat the memory and then
    this is overloaded to 2.80 GB. This is irrational and no way find the solution for that. I destroyed all the objects and the connections, also I used  the Garbage Collector but doesn't matter because no works. Regards and thanks so much for the comprension.

  • Clean up memory Mac mini

    I am looking at my total capacity of memory, it sits at 74.21GB capacity.  I have 7.77GB available.  Problem is I can only account for maybe 40GB of memory based on photos, music, videos, doc's.  I found this by looking at my account name in PLACES on the hard drive(I am only user) and showing info of that's usage.
    It totals 27GB.
    How do I find what ate the other 30+GB of memory?

    Excellent advice so far!
    And if needed, you can use Terminal to run it in admin mode to see files/folders your user can't see...
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/how_to_recover_missing_hard_drive_space/
    Also...
    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages. making huge log files.

  • How to clean the memory after calling BitmapData.draw() ?

    If you add the embedded image on the Stage 800x600 flash player will spend 17Mb RAM / 14Mb Virtual
    But if you create 1200 sprites (in every 100 circles), call draw (), remove the sprites and force to call Garbage Collector, flash player will spend much more - 36Mb RAM / 33Mb Virtual
    var container:Sprite = new Sprite();
    // adding 1200 sprites
    var shiftX:Number = 10;
    var shiftY:Number = 10;
    for (var i:int = 0; i < 1200; i++) {
         var circle:Sprite = new Sprite();
         // drawing 100 circles
         for (var j:int = 0; j < 100; j++) {
              circle.graphics.beginFill(0xFFFFFF/j*i);
              circle.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 10-j*.1);
         circle.x = shiftX;
         circle.y = shiftY;
         shiftX += 20;
         if ( shiftX >= stage.stageWidth ) {
              shiftX = 10;
              shiftY += 20;
         container.addChild(circle);
    // draw() and adding bitmap
    var bmd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(800, 600, true, 0x00FFFFFF);
    bmd.draw(container);
    var bmp:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bmd, "auto", true);
    addChild(bmp);
    // removing sprites
    while (container.numChildren) container.removeChild(container.getChildAt(0));
    // Force Garbage Collector 1
    System.gc();
    System.gc();
    // Force Garbage Collector 2
    try {
         new LocalConnection().connect('foo');
         new LocalConnection().connect('foo');
    } catch (e:Error) {}
    What happens to memory?

    Is there any issue with JavaFX? or I have to do something else?It's likely an issue with your application code (though it could be a bug in the JavaFX platform too).
    Either way debugging most memory issues in JavaFX (except for ones the graphics card texture related) is the same as debugging them in Java - so just use standard Java profiling tools to try to track down any memory leaks you have.
    Such work is as much an art as a science and takes some experience to get right, so grab your detective cap, download and use the tools linked and try and track it down:

  • Rebooting SAP Servers using SMS?

    When we patch our Windows based servers, we deploy the patches with SMS, then we manually:
    - Shutdown all of the SAP services (first ensuring that they are not in use - no automated jobs running, etc.)
    - Restart the server
    - Start the SAP services
    The SAP services/components we have include R/3, BW, HR, ME, EP6, EP7, Solman, Content Server, etc.
    Everything runs on Windows and uses MS SQL.
    Is it possible to perform the 3 steps listed above using SMS?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paul,
    I think the 2nd step is possible, but this will stop or kill all processes and in the case of SAP you'll be better off making sure all the systems stop properly before restart and also check they start properly after restart.

  • Iphone continusly reboots even after clean restore

    I have came here for help from the people who's intelligence is ....to say the least far better then mine on the Iphone
    OK I hope this is the correct place. I have search ALL over and not been able to find a solution for my problem.
    Lets start here:
    One day i did a hard reset of my iphone. When i restarted the iphone took forever then it showed the apple logo then after about 3 minutes a spinning wheel pops up over the apple logo..
    After that I had no idea so I googled it and found a restore in recovery mode would fix it.
    So I put it into recovery mode and then ran 3.13. It did not work.
    So i formatted then install itunes right away . It downloaded 3.13 from apple and did its own thing ( automated) and still fails.
    I have modified my ports in my host file and tried to downgrade to 3.12 but that won't work.
    In the end i get met with a continusly rebooting iphone.
    Any ideas? Thank you in advance,

    Sorry about the delay, Moo.
    I'm having trouble tracking down information about the motherboard in your Asus. I think it's one of the ones with an Intel 5-series chipset, but I can't be sure. Is there anything in your documentation for the laptop that indicates the motherboard model?
