Rebranding WebMail / SquirrelMail

When I go to WebMail I get a web page that says 'Mac OS X Server WebMail Login'.
Which files do I need to edit to change this and add some of my own header graphics to the whole experience?

Thank you, thats a great help.
I have been searching for info on how to set the default theme and read here: http://squirrelmail.org/docs/admin/admin-7.html#ss7.2
but it does not tell you how to set a default theme, just how to make a basic one.
Any ideas where to edit and set the default theme?
Is it the default css file?

  • Can you use HTML signature in webmail/SquirrelMail?

I tried to paste my HTML signature from Apple Mail into my account settings while logged into my server's webmail/SquirrelMail and it looks like it got converted to plain text immediately.
Is it possible for my webmail users to have HTML signatures?
    Thanks!

Both... if I do a copy/paste of the rendered HTML from the Signature setting in Apple Mail to the Signature option in SquirrelMail, all I get is plain text in the SquirrelMail Signature option and in the composition window.
If I copy the HTML source from TextWrangler into the Signature option in SquirrelMail, I see the HTML source both in the Signature option and in the composition window. (I sent a test email to myself and verified the recipient also sees HTML source, not rendered HTML.)
I guess I'm still trying to figure out if HTML signatures are possible with SquirrelMail, I haven't been able to find a definitive answer in the docs or their mailing list. They seem to have an anti-HTML fascination when it comes to email, which I understood and even agreed to at one time, but it's 2009...

  • Cannot send via webmail (SquirrelMail)

    Hi,
I am getting an error when any user tries to send an email via the web interface - SquirrelMail.
Message not sent: Server replied: Syntax error in parameters or arguments 501 5.1.7 Bad sender address syntax
The address I am sending to (and I have tried many of them) all work sending via the mail client. Any ideas?
    Nick

Thank you Cliff - that was indeed the problem. I was testing he Webmail interface from the server - using any other machine on the LAN or Web did not create the error.

  • Webmail (SquirrelMail)

I have my webmail setup. It works fine, but there is one strange thing I can't resolve. Sending mail to a persons email account shows [email protected] A reply to this address will come back of course. Does any body know how to solve it and get rid of the www after the @. I checked the /etc/squirrelmail/config.php and did some changes but without succes. There is a line named $domain getenv (NAME_SERVER) if I change the name server to the domain name "example" the outcome is the whole server name with example.com at the end. Any help would be appreciated

  • WebMail [squirrelmail] login redirect problem

Hi, all -- I'm running into a recurring WebMail login redirect issue. When going to www.domain.xxx/WebMail, I have in the past gotten a directory listing, then needed to click on "index.php" to get to the login page. Then everything worked fine.
Now I get a "copy" of my main website's index page, only with "?" in place of all the graphics. It appears that the redirect (which never worked right in the first place...) is now even more bolluxed up.
I've checked already that port 16080 is enabled, so that shouldn't be the problem.
BTW, I am NOT a UNIX power-user, so please be VERY specific in both commands and syntax if I need to get into Terminal to fix the redirect. Thanks in advance!

Hi, all -- I'm running into a recurring WebMail login
    redirect issue. When going to
www.domain.xxx/WebMail, I have in the past gotten a
directory listing, then needed to click on
"index.php" to get to the login page. Then
    everything worked fine.
If you want to fix this, make sure that:
    1) Your document root (aka "Web Folder") is set properly for the "www.domain.xxx" site in "Server Admin > Web > Settings > Sites > www.domain.xxx > General."
    2) In the same window, make sure "index.php" is listed as one of the default index files.
Now I get a "copy" of my main website's index page,
only with "?" in place of all the graphics. It
appears that the redirect (which never worked right
in the first place...) is now even more bolluxed up.
I've checked already that port 16080 is enabled, so
    that shouldn't be the problem.
Port 16080 means you're using Performance Cache (under "Options"). If you don't need this, turn it off.

  • Error 501 and Webmail setup

    Hi,
I have my Tiger server (10.4.3) and it is currently hosting my website. I am trying to set up my webmail (SquirrelMail 1.4.5). When I send an email from the SquirrelMail I get an error: "Syntax error in parameters or arguments
Server replied: 501 Bad address syntax."
Also, im not sure if it has anything to do with it, when I log into Workgroup Manager I get a message that says: "You are working in a directory node that is not visible to the network. Accounts created in the local directory node will be restricted to this server. To create network accounts, click OK then use the popup menu below the toolbar to go to a network-visible directory node." I'm not sure where the message is refering to.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Webmail Address Book

I was wondering if their is a way to export or import an address book into webmail (squirrelmail 1.4.5) that is built into 10.4.8. I know that you can add people to your address book through webmail directly and I don't see any options to either import or export from the address book. Maybe there is a back way to do it through the back end that I am not aware of?
    Thank you for any help
    Jeremy

Squirrelmail supports plug-ins, which are relatively easy to install (if you're comfy in Terminal):

  • 10.5.8 server postfix sender domain problem

    Hi,
I set up my power mac g5 as web and mail server. Everything is working wihout problem except this issue.
ı configure my webmail as webmail.xxx.com. when i try to send mail from mail server to other servers, i can see my mails in queue , i saw sender mail address as [email protected] if i change webmail adress to example.xxx.com this time i saw [email protected]
All the mail recipients saw like this. When i first think this must be a postfix configuration prorblem. i cannot see an extra settings about this in server admin panel.
So i changes the main.conf fie of postfix for smtp settings there are two choise  $mydomain or $myhostname.
i caned it to mydomain but nothing changed. How can i fix it ?
    Best regards

Is this a problem that only happens when sending from the webmail (SquirrelMail) client, or from all email client apps (Apple Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.)??
SquirrelMail, by default, uses the hostname entered in DNS as the originating address. So if you log in as User_1 and send via SquirrelMail and your email server is desginated as mail1.example.com, the sending address will show as "[email protected]"
You can over-ride this in the Settings of for each user in SquirrelMail by setting the email address to the proper value, as "[email protected]"

  • Permissions for /etc/ ?

I accidentally forced permissions for /etc/ after adding a line for sieve scripts in webmail/squirrelmail.
I am sure I have not touched anything else....
Now mail services says they are running in Server admin, but not when I telnet to them.
    web:~ admin$ telnet localhost 110
    Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused
    Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
Is there a way to save this situation?
All other services like web and afp works fine,
just not pop, imap and SMTP.
How do I fix permissions back=
Thanx for listening, grateful for any help!

  • How to get "clear passwords" on WGM

When adding a user or editing an existing one, there is the problem that password fields (accounts section, tab "general") just show points (*) instead of the real password.
I find this annoying, since there is definitively nobody that looks over my shoulder when I work in WGM
It just forces me to keep a database with all my users' passwords in the case they have forgot theirs and just want to get remembered to the old ones.
Is there a way (maybe a manually done setting in a *.plist file or anything else) to get readable password fields ?

But let me say that is absolutely pointless to be paranoid about cgi's/scripts/
whatever on one side and on the other side have a relaxed password "policy".
You read my other thread, thanks (if you can provide me some tips, please do so there).
Well, in the case a user's password is spread, the worst thing that could happen is someone unauthorized reads the user's e-mails and modifies his/her website (my users do not have access to any other service). Although this would be worst enough for the user, it doesn't hurt the server itself (don't know if system integrity would be the matching term, but let's use it).
I agree fully to you that a password should not last too long... ideally the user could change its password without my assistance from time to time. But this seems not to be possible (you or someone else directed me to a plugin for WebMail/SquirrelMail that can be used to alter passwords from user's side, but I feared to install it so far since I know too less about SquirrelMail and how to bug-fix it in case of problems).
But since I'm the only person that access my computer, the passwords are stored secure enough. Furthermore the fact that WGM replaces typed in chars to "*" for passwords doesn't make them secure. It just hides them when someone looks over my shoulder.
Anyway, thank you for sharing your thoughts. If you can tell me how to make passwords visible in WGM, please don't hesitate and let me know. I will not take you responsible in case of stolen passwords. Promised

  • Vacation messages / server side mail rules

With WebMail depreciated in OS X Server, is there a recommended (incorporated) way for users to configure vacation messages and other server side rules?

The seive rules are referenced by the imap server on OS X and it is responsible for the mail sort. The old webmail (SquirrelMail) and the newer webmail on Lion (Roundcube) were only writing the rules that the sieve engine of the server were reading.  In other words, the webmail doesn't handle the sorting of the incoming messages, its built in filter settings write the rules that the server uses to sort them.
In Roundcube, that is the managesieve plugin. By default, the rules get saved in /Library/Server/Mail/Data/rules/[user UniqueID]/dovecot.sieve with the new Roundcube and older rules are default.sieve. Dovecot seems to look for one or the other and uses it.
So, and I still have to read (and if anyone can answer!) since I've not looked at this since 10.8 server has first come out:  They moved the mailstor moved in ML, but does Dovecot still have sieve rules ENABLED or does that require a .conf change?
    To answer your configuration question:
if you're comfortable with editing a text file, Roundrube is VERY simple to configure in my opinion. Everything is well commented in the settings files. Almost all of the settings are having it connect to your IMAP and SMTP server, same as an email client's settings.  And that's it, you don't need to compile anything to use it.
You will need to setup MySQL or ProtegeSQL with it, but they have scripts that setup the tables for you, again, pretty simple.  PERSONALLY, I chose to install MySQL (they have a Mac .pkg install and a System Preference Pane for it).  I did not want to use the ProtegeSQL Apple supplies with OS X because we've all learned this lesson: who knows when they'll abandon THAT and leave us all scrambling for a solution again.
This way, my SQL install is indepenent, ready for the next OS upgrade without wondering if Apple will take it away, or even transportable to another platform.

  • Always re-caching email/re-synchronizing w/ server when launching Mail

I had to change my email address on my personal domain I have. for privacy concerns i will just label it 'example.com'.
Iam using IMAP for my domains on a shared hosting account.
My long-term email account is [email protected], however I've had to change it to [email protected] ... so what I did in the cPanel of my websites backend is create a new email account '[email protected]' with the same password as [email protected]
kept [email protected] in the Mail application, added the [email protected] account into Mail and properly copied mail form [email protected] to [email protected] by selecting all inbox messages in [email protected] right-clicking and selecting copy-to -> [email protected]
it reflected this on the server aswell when i check the [email protected] account via webmail (SquirrelMail).
I did the same for Drafts and Sent.
However since I kept both in there to make sure I dont miss a message while I migrate to the new email account [email protected] and [email protected] are always re-caching/re-synchronizing with the server if i ever open Mail after a reboot or closing mail completely.
When it does that I lose all my Rules (and have to re-apply them, which is easy) but it is very frustating as it takes a long while before I can check for new messages and doesnt make sense why it is recaching the mail when it has been fine.
maybe should I have just selected all the mail messages and dragged them to the mailbox instead of doing a copy-to?
    Thanks!

I wanted to add more information, hopefully maybe clearing anything issues.
OSX 10.6.6, Mail.app, my own domain using IMAP.
for example my original email address was '[email protected]' and needed to change my email to '[email protected]'
I created the new email account ([email protected]) on my shared hosting account cPanel using the same password as the original email ([email protected]).
Launched mail, the original email ([email protected]) I still kept in Mail, and added the new account ([email protected]) then proceeded to select all the messages from [email protected]'s Inbox to [email protected]'s Inbox...and right-clicked and selected "Copy-To [email protected]'s Inbox" (and the same for the Drafts and Sent folders)... so they were identical and had all my email copied properly over.
Everything looked fine, on the server end using WebMail (SquirrelMail) it showed everything like for like. I can send messages fine, etc.
However whenever I quite Mail and reopened it (didnt matter if I shut down the Mac or restarted or just simply relaunched mail) it always recaches the Inboxes for BOTH accounts every single time since I've added the new account as seen below:
    Anyway to resolve this?

  • Spam mail being sent through our XServe

We run a Mac OSX Server (updated to 10.4.7) on an Xserve and we currently have an issue where we are having spam email sent through our system. This has only started to happen recently, and our Mac OSX server has been handling our email happily for well over 3 years now. We have noticed that all of the emails that are being sent are being queued in our mail server and are being sent from the address:-
    [email protected] (our domain)
We have checked our mail accounts and checked our postfix alias file and cannot see any accounts that should not be there. I saw a similar post about this relating to 10.3 server which asked to check the /tmp folder for any suspect php scripts. We have done this and can't see anything out of the ordinary.
One thing that we have noticed is that our main email address, ([email protected]) will receive a spam email where the contents of this mail are hundreds of aol.com addresses. Shortly after receivng this email, we then discover that our mail queue is populated with a lot of spam messages addressed to aol users. We are running 10.4.7 with all the latest patches and security updates, as well as AWL stats 6.5 (latest version) and webmail (SquirrelMail). Although posters have pointed in the past to AWL stats as being insecure, we have been assured that AWL stats 6.5 is secure and should not be the cause of the problem.
Has anybody else seen this behaviour, and know what to do to resolve it? We have also seen this entry in our system log and don't know if this is anything to do with the problem:-
    sudo: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/ ; USER=cyrusimap ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/cyrus/bin/cyrus-quota -r
Hoping someone can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Alex,
It is just the webmail that we have turned off and since doing so no more spam has hit us. Our users can not chnage there passwords although I have changed them since your original post to something completely differnt and Alphanumeric. I have added the line you suggested to our syslog.conf so hopefully this will help. Below is the mail log file with all the spam.

  • Better webmail app that SquirrelMail?

    Hello --
Do any of you (especially Bill) have a webmail app that you like? I have G5 running SquirrelMail (along with UW-IMAP & Postfix) and while I appreciate the simplicity and functionality, I sure would like something a little more Ajaxy. Hasn't anyone cloned gmail or yahoo mail or even .mac mail?
    Thanks for your advice!

Yeah -- I like mail.app. But I'm looking for a web app for when I'm not using my own computer.
And I agree SquirrelMail is slow (hence my request).
You must have overthought the installation. It's pretty much just a matter of dumping the directory in your web docs directory and taking most of the defauults on the configuration script. Compared to the other things you've explained in this forum, it's as easy as putting on pants.

  • Webmail security (Squirrelmail)

    Hi,
I have mail configured on my OS X Server (10.4.8) and have authentication set to kerberos for all three protocols (SMTP, IMAP and POP), In this setup web-mail doesn't work. If I also tick the 'clear' (under IMAP) webmail works no problems. My problem is that as I understand the security with kerberos, then by ticking the 'clear' radio buttom, I jeopodise the kerboros security as this way basicly 'anything goes' when it comes to authentication. Can anyone confirm (or educate) my understanding, and if so what do other people do to ensure a secure setup with web-mail.
    Cheers
    Mike

    Mike,
if Squirrelmail is running on the same server as cyrus and postfix, then this is not too much of a concern as no "clear" passwords are sent through the internet.
Having said that, I'd still avoid using clear passwords. Use CRAM-MD5 for IMAP and POP. Untick Clear and check CRAM-MD5. Next open terminal and issue:
    sudo /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
This will allow you to configure squirrelmail to your liking and choose CRAM-MD5 as the authentication method (See server settings).
And, of course, use SSL for Webmail. For added security you can even put it behind a protected realm (probably overkill).
